AN: Hello ladies and gentleman. I am back with a new story. I have had this idea for a fanfic for years and I am so excited that I'm finally getting to it! In all honesty I didn't want to publish it until I finished all my other stories but I don't know when that will happen. None of my stories have been abandoned and I have plans to finish them, please be patient with me. Anyways this is the story on my take of what would have happened in Twilight if the vampires and werewolves were simply myths. ENJOY!

I sat quietly in the cafeteria next to a girl I barely knew. My heart pounded terribly in my chest as I pushed the salad I had bought around my plate. I was quickly starting to regret my choice in coming to Forks to live with Charlie.

"What do you think of the reading list that Mr. Mason gave you?" The girl with thick curly hair said from next to me. I had already forgotten her name. Crap.

"It's fairly typical." I said shifting awkwardly in my seat.

"Yeah but don't you just hate a teacher making you read something?"

"Err -" I flushed uncomfortably.

"Hey Jessica, did you listen to that CD I lent you?" A pretty girl with light brown hair said quickly distracting her. I mouthed a silent thank you and looked back down at my food. It was hard to tune out these strangers as I picked at my food but I managed. Barely. If someone tried to talk to me the pretty girl quickly diverted them. It was nothing short of pure relief to go to my next class.

The pretty girl walked with me to my next class. She was extremely tall compared to me and I had to look up to her when I talked. It took me a moment but I finally whispered, "I'm sorry, would you please remind me of your name?"

"It's Angela," she said with a small smile. "I know how difficult it can be to start at a new school."

"Thanks," I said, blowing out a huge breath. "When did you switch schools?"

"Oh, I've gone to this school my whole life but I know it can be difficult from the books I've read." Angela blushed prettily and looked down at her shoes. I giggled as we entered the classroom.

All the tables were full except one which was empty. I went up to the teacher to introduce myself. He told me his name was Mr. Banner and sent me to the only empty table in the room. I quickly made my way over, carefully watching the ground so I wouldn't trip over anything.

Mr. Banner taught on cellular anatomy, which I had already studied. I still took notes thoroughly in case there was something my previous teacher Miss Mason had missed but there wasn't any new information. Hopefully the whole school year wouldn't be like this. If it was, it would be boring. I started to gather up my belongings and blew out a heavy breath.

"Aren't you Isabella Swan?" a male voice asked.

I looked up to see a cute, baby-facedboy, his pale blond hair carefully gelled into orderly spikes, smiling at me in a friendly way.

"Bella," I corrected him, with a smile.

"I'm Mike."

"Hi, Mike."

"Do you need any help finding your next class?"

"I'm headed to the gym, actually. I think I can find it."

"That's my next class, too." He seemed thrilled, though it wasn't that big of a coincidence in a school this small.

We walked to class together; he was a chatterer — he supplied most of the conversation, which made it easy for me. He'd lived inCalifornia till he was ten, so he knew how I felt about the sun. It turned out he was in my English class also. He was one of the nicest people I had met today.

"It's too bad you have to sit alone in Biology." He said, his eyes shifting to look at me.

"Oh I don't mind." I said softly. It was hard enough to be in a school of strangers let alone have to partner with a random person for Biology.

"Well," Mike started slowly then continued. "If I were lucky enough to sit by you, I would have talked to you."

I smiled at him before walking through the girls' locker room door. He was friendly and clearly admiring. Very sweet.

The Gym teacher, Coach Clapp, found me a uniform but didn't make me dress down for today's class. At home, only two years of P.E..were required. Here, P.E. was mandatory all four was literally my personal hell on Earth.

I watched four volleyball games running simultaneously. Remembering how many injuries I had sustained — and inflicted — playing volleyball, I felt faintly nauseated. To say I was bad at sports was an understatement.

The final bell rang at last. I walked slowly to the office to return my paperwork. The rain had drifted away, but the wind was strong, and colder. I wrapped my arms around myself. This place was so different from Arizona. I wasn't sure how I would like it here.

I walked into the warm office and smiled shyly at the receptionist. She smiled back and waved me forward.

"How did your first day go, dear?" She asked maternally.

"Fine," I squeaked, my voice weak. She didn't look convinced. A warm flush spread through my face and I looked down at my shoes.

"Bella -"

The door opened, and the cold wind suddenly gusted through the room, rustling the papers on the desk, swirling my hair around my face. The girl who came in stepped to the desk, placed a note in the wire basket, and walked out again.

"Have a good evening." I said and quickly made my way out of the room like the little coward I was.

When I got to the truck, it was almost the last car in the lot. It seemed like a haven, already the closest thing to home I had in this damp green hole. I sat inside for a while, just staring out the windshield blankly. But soon I was cold enough to need the heater, so I turned the key and the engine roared to life.

I made it through my first day at forks. Hopefully it would get easier but I wasn't that hopeful.
