AN: Hello everyone. I have had this story in my mind for years. It's time to put pen to paper and get it out there. This story is all about Ginny Weasley. Woohoo! Everybody loves her if they've read the books. I loved it in the original series when Ginny and Harry ended up together. And on another note, none of my stories have been abandoned, I just need some time to work on them (which is getting harder and harder to come by). Anyways this is her story and will follow the original series as closely as possible but it will be different since we don't see her during classes and with her friends. Today is Friday 10/08/21 and anything you recognize is JK Rowling's and anything you don't is mine.
"We're going to be late!" Mum snapped running through King's Cross Station. I pumped my legs hard to keep up with her. When she got like this it was easier to keep quiet. Something my brothers had never seemed to figure out.
"Oh mum -" Fred started but mum cut him off.
"Don't you 'oh mum' me. If you hadn't been fiddling with those - those - things we wouldn't be running so late."
"We've told you they're called -" George started to say, sounding insulted.
"I don't care. But oh, this place is packed with Muggles, of course -" A big beefy man with a briefcase passed by us and knocked into me. I gasped and squished closer to mum's side, as much as I loved coming to King's Cross it also made me nervous to be around the muggles. Would they know that I was a witch just by looking at me?
"Now, what's the platform number?" Mum asked like she did every year.
"Nine and three-quarters!" I squeaked quickly like I always did. "Mom, can't I go... "
"You're not old enough, Ginny, now be quiet. All right, Percy, you go first." Percy, my big brother, marched towards the barrier and he vanished from sight while a large crowd of tourists came by. That's what Percy always waited for to cross, a big crowd.
"Fred, you next," Mum said.
"I'm not Fred, I'm George," I frowned, looking between the twins. I had thought he was Fred too. "Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can't you tell I'm George?"
"Sorry, George, dear."
"Only joking, I am Fred." Mum made a grab for him looking frustrated but the twins disappeared before she could grab either of them.
"Excuse me," a soft voice called from behind us. I blinked and turned around slowly. A boy, who looked to be Ron's age, was standing with a cart looking nervous. He had messy black hair and brilliant green eyes that made me pause. Small circular glasses covered those eyes but they didn't take away from them like most glasses did. He was, well, cute. My heart thumped at the thought.
"Hello, dear," mum said with a small smile. Her eyes darted the pretty snowy owl and away. "First time at Hogwarts? Ron's new, too." She pointed at Ron who was staring at the boy.
"Yes," said the boy, his face turning red as he spoke. "The thing is - the thing is, I don't know how to -"
"How to get onto the platform?" Mum asked kindly, and the boy nodded.
"Not to worry," she said. "All you have to do is walk straight at the barrier between platforms nine and ten. Don't stop and don't be scared you'll crash into it, that's very important. Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous. Go on, go now before Ron."
"Er - okay," the boy said. He turned to the barrier and took a deep breath and started to run. It was a full out sprint and he vanished from sight like all the others.
"Poor boy looked terrified." Mum said, shaking her head. "I wonder where his parents are. Oh, look at the time."
Before I could turn to look at the clock mum was pulling Ron and I through the barrier. I quickly closed my eyes and then opened them again.
A scarlet steam engine was waiting next to a platform packed with people. A sign overhead said Hogwarts Express, eleven O'clock. Smoke from the engine drifted over the heads of the chattering crowd, while cats of every color wound here and there between their legs. Owls
hooted to one another in a disgruntled sort of way over the babble and the scraping of heavy trunks.
The first few carriages were already packed with students, some hanging out of the window to talk to their families, some fighting over seats. More than anything I wanted to start school at Hogwarts.
We passed a round-faced boy who was saying, "Gran, I've lost my toad again."
"Oh, Neville," the old woman sighed.
Lee, the twins' friend, was surrounded by a small crowd.
"Give us a look, Lee, go on."
The boy lifted the lid of a box in his arms, and the people around him shrieked and yelled as something inside poked out a long, hairy leg.
I made a face and looked away, I didn't like spiders much. Ron, who hated spiders, shuddered and made a face.
"Where did those boys get to? Fred? George? Are you there?"
"Coming, Mum." The twins called and appeared moments later.
"Ron, you've got something on your nose." Mum said, fishing a handkerchief out of her pocket.
Ron tried to jerk out of the way, but she grabbed him and began rubbing the end of his nose.
"Mom - geroff" He wriggled free.
"Aaah, has ickle Ronnie got somefink on his nosie?" Said Fred with a smirk.
"Shut up," Ron snapped.
"Where's Percy?" Asked mum.
"He's coming now." I said pointing to where he was. My oldest brother, who still lived with us at least, came striding into sight. He had already changed into his billowing black Hogwarts robes, and had put on a shiny silver badge with the letter P on it. His prefect badge. His pride.
"Can't stay long, Mother," Percy said, puffing out his chest. "I'm up front, the prefects have got two compartments to themselves -"
"Oh, are you a prefect, Percy?" George said, with an air of great surprise. "You should have said something, we had no idea."
"Hang on, I think I remember him saying something about it," said Fred, and he winked at me. "Once -"
"Or twice -"
"A minute -"
"All summer -"
"Oh, shut up," said Perc, his face flushing.
"How come Percy gets new robes, anyway?" George asked, crossing his arms.
"Because he's a prefect," said mum, her eyes all but sparkling. "All right, dear,
well, have a good term - send me an owl when you get there."
She kissed Percy on the cheek and he left. Then she turned to the twins.
"Now, you two - this year, you behave yourselves. If I get one more owl telling me you've - you've blown up a toilet or -"
"Blown up a toilet? We've never blown up a toilet."
"Great idea though, thanks, Mom." I giggled quietly behind my hand.
"It's not funny. And look after Ron."
"Don't worry, ickle Ronniekins is safe with us."
"Shut up," said Ron again. He was almost as tall as the twins already and his nose was still pink where his mother had rubbed it.
"Hey, Mom, guess what? Guess who we just met on the train? You know that black-haired boy who was near us in the station? Know who he is?"
"Who?" Ron asked, looking curious.
"Harry Potter!"
I gasped sharply; my eyes wide. He was my hero! "Oh, Mom, can I go on the train and see him, Mom, eh please..."
"You've already seen him, Ginny, and the poor boy isn't something you goggle at in a zoo. Is he really, Fred? How do you know?"
"Asked him. Saw his scar. It's really there - like lightning." Ron's mouth was open in shock.
"Poor dear - no wonder he was alone, I wondered. He was ever so polite when he asked how to get onto the platform."
"Never mind that, do you think he remembers what You-Know-Who looks like?" I felt all the blood drain from my face. Ron looked excited at the thought.
Mum's eyes flashed dangerously. "I forbid you to ask him, Fred. No, don't you dare. As though he needs reminding of that on his first day at school."
"All right, keep your hair on."
A whistle sounded.
"Hurry up!" Mum said, and the three of them clambered onto the train. They leaned out of the window for mum to kiss them good-bye, and my heart dropped. Another year to wait. The first year by myself, just mum and me. Tears fell down my cheeks and I quickly brushed them away.
"Don't, Ginny, we'll send you loads of owls." Fred said, waving at me.
"We'll send you a Hogwarts toilet seat." George said and I laughed around the tears.
"George!"
"Only joking, Mom."
The train began to move. Mum kept waving and I ran waving half crying half laughing. At the last second a face appeared at one of the windows. Pretty green eyes and messy black hair. The boy who changed my life. Harry Potter. And in that moment, I knew that my life would never be the same again.
"Let's go home dear." Mum said as the train disappeared from view. "I'm sure we'll hear from them soon."
