I saw the following quote accredited to Professor Brian Cox and thought it also applied perfectly to fan fiction.

"The problem with today's world is that everyone believes they have the right to express their opinion AND have others listen to it.

The correct statement of individual rights is that everyone has the right to an opinion, but crucially, that opinion can be roundly ignored and even made fun of, particularly, if it is demonstrative nonsense."

I shall try and remember this the next time I receive a foul and abusive message telling me that a certain character would never act the way I just wrote them, therefore I must be insane, stupid, shot at dawn, etc.
