If you don't like 30 years before then that's fine, you don't need to tell everybody about it with vulgar language, there are underage people who read the comments and they don't need read stuff like that.
Secondly I'm not changing the story because some random doesn't like the story. Don't like it then go and read something else. Nobody is forcing you read this.
I'm writing this because I like it! Not for any other reason, this simply is self indulgent nonsense. It's a fanfic! Not something offensive.
Marco POV
Marco was perched on top of the crow's nest belonging to the Moby Dick, his gaze scanning over the sinking Marine ships. Pops should have been back by now, he really wanted to fly off and find him, but he would probably get in trouble. You're only an apprentice you can't go on a dangerous marine ship, stay here and wait with Jozu and Vista...
He grumbled, irritated at his older sister's words, Whitey bay always said stuff like that. Pops said something similar, but Marco generally listened to him.
If it wasn't for Pops saying that he shouldn't interfere, he would have completely ignored Whitey and flown off by now.
"Oi! Marco can you see him yet?"
Vista shouted up at him, Marco swung his feet over the edge of the platform and jumped off. Catching a breeze under his wings on the way down, slowing his descent. He landed in front of his brother with ease.
"No, yoi"
Vista sighed looking rather put out, he ran his hand through his bangs.
"Seriously, what's taking him so long?"
Marco shook his head, looking a little lost. It was pretty unusual, normally once Pops called for a retreat, he would have been just behind them. On occasion he would hold back the enemy if they were in a pretty difficult situation. Pops never turned his back in a fight, not until the other side was either dead or he deemed them no longer a threat, which meant they were too beaten into the ground to be one.
But this was worrying.
"I don't know, yoi"
He was suddenly crushed from behind, his eyes slid to the cause of said crushing. Jozu was clinging to him, which was pretty much like having a grown bear hug you. His little brother meant well, he was a sweet, sensitive kid. The 12 year old hardly ever spoke and if he did it was normally spoken softly and followed by an apology.
Poor kid was obviously upset, he was a bit of a worry wart. And as much as Marco loved the big doof, it didn't mean he loved having his air squeezed out of his lungs.
"Jozu, yoi... let go I can't breathe"
Jozu flinched, instantly letting go, he looked down at his shoes sheepishly.
"Sorry..."
Vista chuckled, patting him on the shoulder affectionately.
"Jozu you needed to be more careful, your bear hugs are lethal."
The 12 year old shuffled awkwardly, fiddling with his big fingers.
"Sorry..."
Marco grinned up at him, how could anyone be angry with this kid. He reached up on to his tip toe and ruffled his hair. Which earned him a small small from the kid.
"It's fine. Just a bit of warning next time okay, yoi"
He nodded, humming a soft positive. At least he looked a little happier, though his eyes were still anxious.
"He's back!"
Someone shouted. This caught the attention of the three youngest members, they quickly pushed through the crowd that had gathered port side, until Pops came into view.
Marco immediately grabbed hold of his little brothers arm, before the kid barrelled into their father. Vista put his arm out in front of Jozu as well, barring his way. Jozu wimpered but he didn't push past his elder brothers. The reason they had stopped him was because Pops appeared to be bleeding heavily, his arm was held out in front of his chest where the blood seemed to coming from.
Pops was standing near the railings, he seemed to be out of breath which scared Marco, he must have been badly hurt. Rakuyo, Whitey and Fossa had run over to him, they looked as worried as he felt. Their father said something quietly, after a quick exchange, his elder siblings visibly relaxed, Pops finally sighed wearily, slowly lowering himself to the floor, crossing his legs.
What the hell happened?
Marco was very tempted to barge over there and demand to know what had happened. Though he doubted anyone would actually tell him, especially not Pops.
Rakuyo, Fossa and Whitey weren't exactly freaking out, which logically speaking meant that Pop was probably fine.
The small crowd started disperse, now that the excitement was over and Pop was seemly in good enough health. Only a few people were left hanging around, while the rest going off to fulfill their duties.
With a heavy sigh, Marco decided to drop it for now, Pop seemed to be okay and Marilyn the head doctor was there now with her apprentice Tam. The old woman didn't seem to be fussing over Pops, she seemed more interested in asking him questions. And Tam was perched next to Pop's bloodly arm, proding something. Which earned the teenager a smack on the head from her mentor. Pops shook his head tiredly at his daughters antics, which was accompanied with sympathetic look.
Right now Marco had a crying baby brother to deal with, he turned toward Vista who was still holding back the boy. He didn't look overly worried anymore, so he had probably come to the same conclusion as he had. Everything was okay.
"Come on Jozu why don't we go see the Chef, maybe he has some leftover Chazuke, yoi"
The 12 year old perked up slightly at the mention of his favourite food, he sniffled as he wiped his eyes silently.
"Mmmm k..."
Vista nodded giving Marco a thumbs up, he lowered his arm when he was sure that he wasn't going run off and get in the way of the adults.
"Let's go."
Jozu slowly trailed after his brothers, mumbling quietly about food. Marco had his hand on his back reassuringly and Vista was teasing Jozu about his fly fish addiction.
Everything would fine, Marco would make sure of it.
Whitebeard POV
Newgate was exhausted, he hadn't stopped running until he had reached the Moby. The two brats he was carrying had been getting gradually worse, at one point he thought the smaller one had stopped breathing until he realized that the older brother was laying on top of him and had muffled his breaths. The pirate nearly had a heart attack when that happened.
Not to mention the whole ship had be collapsing around him, if he had stopped Newgate would have fallen through the many holes that kept being thrown in his way. He was lucky that despite his large size he was extremely nimble and light footed when he wanted to be.
So when he finally made it back to his ship he was out of breath, something that hadn't happened to him in a very long time. Three of his older children came rushing though the gathering crowd, demanding to know why he was bleeding so heavily.
At first the pirate was confused, he wasn't bleeding. In fact he hardly had any injuries at all. The only wound that was actually bothing him, was the one on his jaw where Garp had slugged him. Then he realized they probably thought the blood on his chest and arm was his. He sighed immediately feeling guilty about the panic he had probably caused.
Newgate adjusted the two kids carefully, he wasn't fond of showing them off at the moment, not with how bad their condition was. Not to mention he could see Marco, Jozu and Vista in the gathering group. Marco and Vista would probably have been fine with seeing it, Jozu how ever would not. Poor kid had enough issues to worry about, without giving him more nightmares. Then again from here all he could probably see was his father bleeding all over the place.
Sorry Jozu...
The captain turned away slightly, not that it made much difference now. He instead focused his attention on his three older kids who were looking at him with questioning horror.
"I'm not injured"
Newgate said quietly, Rakuyo was eye balling him with rather a lot of skepticism. Whitey didn't look overly convinced and Fossa was just frowning at him with a dubious look.
"I'm not!"
The captain snapped with a low hiss, he was trying to keep the sharp undertones out of his voice. But it was safe to say he failed pretty miserably. His sons and daughter visibly relaxed, finally deciding that he was indeed fine.
Took them long enough.
Newgate had to admit he wasn't in the best mood, he was still feeling rather angry from earlier and he didn't need his kids giving him the stink eye.
I need some alcohol. The strong stuff.
He finally slumped, sliding down wearily onto the deck, crossing his legs under him as went. Softly lowering the boys so his children could see.
"Pops who are they?!"
Whitey whispered, she'd picked up on his wanting to keep things on the down low. She was watching them warily, before glancing up at his face expectedly.
"They're Garp sons..."
"What! What the hell Pops"
Fossa hissed sharply, Rakuyo was just nodding wildly in agreement with his brother.
"No offence Pops but what are you thinking?! They're Marines!?"
His daughter growled under her breath, she didn't hold back the venom in her voice.
"Garp was the one who did this to them, I saw it happen."
The three of them went silent, the looks of anger and distrust fading slightly from their eyes.
"I couldn't just stand by watch them be beaten senseless..."
The elder pirate said roughly, he couldn't keep the anger out of his voice.
To Newgate family was the most important thing in the world, he couldn't stand the thought of anyone being alone. Everybody deserved a family, to be loved and cared for. It didn't matter who they were, where they were born or even who their parents were. He loved being a father, couldn't imagine not being one anymore, it was engrained into him. The thought of having any of his children taken from him was like torture.
But Newgate forgot sometimes that not all people felt the same way as he did. Some simply didn't care about their family, their children or anything that didn't benefit them. They had no problem hurting them for their selfish goals or selling them out for a bit of money.
It disgusted him to no end.
When Garp had beaten down his weak and injured sons, it had really rubbed Newgate the wrong way. It just went against everything he believed in.
"The poor little bastards tried to run away from him, they had no chance in hell to even defend themselves. They didn't even do anything to set him off!"
The three of them sighed in unison, aspiration clear as day on their faces. Whitey knelt down next to him, she wouldn't meet his eye. She was probably going to be annoyed with him for a while. He grinned, she had such a short fuse.
"Are you going to be angry with me all evening?"
She glared at him coldly and decided to ignore his jab. He grinned wider, he loved annoying her to no end.
"Come now you're not going to ignore your poor father are you?"
Whitey pouted, turning her back on him, Whitebeard sniggered she was such a fun person to tease.
"You're too soft Pops..."
His daughter growled. Rakuyo snorted at the comment, which was received with cool glare from his sister.
"You have such a bad habit of adopting kids you don't know."
Fossa agreed, he was stood with his arms crossed.
Well Newgate couldn't exactly disagree with that, even if he wanted to. Instead he decided to focus on the brats, both of them in a sorry state. His heart sank, delicately he pushed the older one off his brother again, he didn't want another heart attack like earlier.
"Oi Edward! What the hell have you gone and done this time!"
Newgate lifted his head up to meet the ship's head doctor's sharp gaze, the old woman was looking about as unsympathetic as usual. He sighed, he knew where this conversation was going, the captain's face twisting with annoyance.
Marilyn stormed up to the large man, with no warning slamed her fist on his head. Anyone else had done that and they would probably be at the bottom of ocean by now.
But not this woman.
Newgate had unwilling inherited her from his old crew. She had found him in the New World, shortly after he had first formed the Whitebeard pirates. She had just made herself at home on his ship without his permission and that's where she had stayed.
The only good thing about the fowl old woman was she was an exceptional doctor. And Newgate couldn't get rid of her because he owed Marilyn a det of gratitude for saving his life multiple times throughout the years with the Rocks.
Didn't mean he had to like the old bag.
Newgate grunted, this damn old woman. Couldn't she lay off him a bit, he wasn't exactly in the best mood.
"Can you not hit me!"
The old woman scowled, ignoring him in favour of glaring at his injured brats, which Newgate unconsciously drew closer to him.
"Who are they? Why are they bleeding? What have you done this time you fool"
His eyebrow twitched, at the woman's sharp voice. Could she shut up! He didn't need the whole ship to know.
"Well Edward!?"
The doctor demanded, Newgate opted to ignore the questions and asked his own.
"Are going to help them or not!"
Her face darkened, Newgate was promptly smacked again.
"What's with that tone! And of course I am, I'm a doctor aren't I?"
At this point the captain was about ready to chuck the woman overboard, damning his prideful nature of upholding his debts.
"Whoa this kids face stretches!"
A cheerful voice broke Newgate out of his irritation, Tam was perched next to his arm and her finger was hooked around the younger brats cheek, stretching the poor kids face.
"Tam don't do that"
The pirate captain reprimanded softly, the girl promptly let go and the boys cheek snapped back in place. But it was too late and Tam's mentor punched her on the head, not too lightly.
"Tam stop playing with half dead brats! You're going to be a terrible doctor"
Tam didn't seem all that fazed, she was pretty use to it. Newgate wasn't exactly thrilled with the way Marilyn terrorised his kids, but he also knew that telling the woman off wouldn't be of any help either.
He looked over at his daughter sympathetically, shaking his head with slight amusement. Tam never learns.
"So tell me what happened!"
Newgate sighed, calling back over today's advents.
I really need a drink after all this.
So I have a couple of things to clarify. Particularly when it comes to the characterization of certain characters. THIS IS THE PAST and as such some characters haven't come into themselves yet.But by the end of story they may have started to become the characters we know and love.
Dragon is one in particular that a few have mentioned. In this story Dragon is 25, he isn't the infamous 'most wanted man' yet and is still trying to figure himself out. He's a young man who's very much trying to find his meaning in life.
Question time!
