Author has written 10 stories for Artemis Fowl, Kindred Spirits on the Roof, and Kimi no Na wa./君の名は.. Name: M. L. Birthday: 1997 Website , MuseScore Gender: Male I am currently 18 years old as I write this and in college. So here are a few things about me. Gamertag: Reckless150681 (I use this handle for many accounts. It was originally my Xbox LIVE gamertag, but look it up; I'm bound to be in a lot of other places.) Interests: Music: I listen to a lot of different types of music, but the three I really enjoy are classical, jazz, and hard rock. My music tastes have changed a lot since high school, though I still detest "mainstream" genres such as country, rap, and pop. Gaming: I play a LOT of video games. It doesn't really matter what platform; PC, Xbox, whatever. I'm even about to get a PS4 soon. Airsoft: For those who don't know, Hong Kong is Asia's airsoft capital - and personally I think it's the airsoft capital of the world. The US has larger stores and larger (and better) fields, but in Hong Kong it is almost statistically certain you will see an airsofter every time you go out - they're recognizable by the tactical backpacks. Series: Avatar: the Last Airbender, Artemis Fowl, Red Vs. Blue, RWBY, Halo, Kindred Spirits on the Roof, Kimi no Na wa Writing: High school me: Ah, writing. Believe it or not, I'm not a writer; I'm an engineer; to be honest, I'm surprised my writing style hasn't become stale yet. I excel at math, physics, and chemistry, and struggle in humanities. I've been eligible for AP humanities courses for a while now, but I've never taken them. I started writing on FanFiction because I wanted to address a few problems I found with the Artemis Fowl universe; I never expected this to become such an engrossing hobby. In terms of what goes on behind the text, I don't abide by a schedule; there's no weekly, bi-weekly, semiweekly, monthly, whatever - I write whenever I have time or whenever I feel like it, and these two times don't necessarily overlap. People who release short stories generally have excuses like "I've got too much homework", which - honestly - is complete BS. As far as I'm aware, FanFiction is nonprofit, which means authors do not receive ad revenue or royalties on their stories. This means no schedules, which means no deadlines, which means no excuse for rushed stories. On the other hand, there is one thing I keep constant: quality. Though my view is very skewed because so far I've only read Artemis Fowl fanfictions at this point, I've found many fan pieces of work to be - honestly - complete garbage. There is no quality control; chapters are barely longer than a couple of paragraphs, grammar is all over the place, and in more than one case stories are just abandoned in the middle of writing them. I see a lot of authors begging for reviews ("Review or I won't update!"), descending to the level of the duckface and comment fishers. While I also like seeing reviews on my stories, I follow up on them - I look for suggestions for changes and for what I do well, but not just empty compliments. So what am I saying? I'm saying, I don't follow a schedule; I like working at my own pace, whether that means seven stories a day or one story every seven days; I keep my work as professional as possible, making sure grammar is acceptable and proper syntax is followed; I don't beg for reviews - I write for the sole joy of writing. My philosophy is: "Quality over everything else." College me: Man, I was really arrogant back in the day. That being said, not much about this section has really changed, apart from me actually entering college now. As I write this segment, I'm currently a sophomore in college for mechanical engineering and music. I had lost the drive to write things simply because I lost interest, but have recently picked it back up because sometimes it's nice to do things other than play video games. The single series that brought be back is definitely Kindred Spirits on the Roof, which was so perfectly executed (apart from technical problems in the game itself) that I had to ruin it by writing my own follow-up. I know that all of my few fans are waiting for me to finish my AF fics. That'll happen, I promise, but it's certainly not going to be anytime soon. I plan on rereading all of the books to immerse myself in Eoin Colfer's style again, and maybe make some revisions while I'm at it. | |||||||
