If you don't like 30 years before then that's fine, you don't need to tell everybody about it with vulgar language, there are underage people who read the comments and they don't need read stuff like that.

Secondly I'm not changing the story because some random doesn't like the story. Don't like it then go and read something else. Nobody is forcing you read this.

I'm writing this because I like it! Not for any other reason, this simply is self indulgent nonsense. It's a fanfic! Not something offensive.

Luffy's POV

Luffy enjoyed fishing, it reminded him of the time he spent on the Sunny. Relaxing with his crew, whittling away the days. It brought back some normality to his life.

He might not admit it but he was homesick, the young captain missed his crew, they were his precious friends. They gave him the strength he needed to see his dream to fruition.

Now he felt lonely, some of his strength had started to waver. They were the reason he hadn't completely lost it when Ace died.

Before he knew he would see them again, the situation he was in now didn't guarantee it.

To some extent he understood the trouble he was in, if Luffy did something wrong, like telling someone he was from the future, it might cause him not to meet one of his crew.

He didn't really get how that could cause something like that, but Luffy did trust Dragon. If he told him that, then he would believe him.

This was one of the causes for his homesickness in the first place, the fear that he would never see his home again. His ship and friends were his home, the thought of never having that again made his stomach knot.

"Hey, I got one yoi!"

Marco was pulling at his fishing pole with heavy effort, tugging it towards him in an attempt to haul his thrashing fish.

Luffy reached over effortlessly, helping his young friend to tear the thing out of the water. The large brute was thrown into the air, souring over the railing, Magician leapt after it, slicing the fish up with relative ease with his sword.

The now sushi fell into a messy pile, definitely lacking the expertise that Zoro did. The dark haired teen landed unsteadily, slipping on some fish guts and fell on his butt.

Luffy and Marco burst out laughing at the rather spectacular fail, causing their swordsman friend to blush profusely.

Even Jozu snorted a quick giggle which he immediately hide with his arm. The only one who didn't react was Dragon, he stayed in the same spot by the railing, back resting against it, without looking up.

"Boy am glad I saw that! Ah, I've missed my eyes, I'm never gonna take them for granted again, yoi"

That was true, today marked the first day that Marco had been allowed to take his blindfold bandages off. He was in such a good mood because of it. He hadn't stopped smiling all morning.

"Wow, Magician that was terrible! Shishishi! That's not very swordsman-y"

"Yessss, Haha it's very funny! Vista fell on his butt! Seriously guys I'm in training leave me alone..."

The young swordsman snapped defensively, as he waved his sword back and forth in annoyance, face bright red like a tomato.

"Pfffppp okay, okay! We'll stop, yoi"

Marco clapped his hand over his mouth, trying to keep his laughter in. Luffy just continued, rolling around on his back.

"Stooooopppp!"

Luffy finally managed to quiet his cackling, turning his head and forcing his mouth into his shoulder muffling it.

For a while afterwards Magician refused to cut up anymore fish, until Luffy and Marco apologised and even then he was only half-hearted.

The young captain didn't care, he was having fun regardless. It almost felt like home, even if it was only a little.

They were getting a pretty good haul, maybe the chefs would finally forgive him and Dragon once they gave them the fish.

When lunch rolled around, Luffy and his friends carried their produce down to the Galley.

They had stuffed it all in some empty crates that the blue haired woman had found for them. She helped them out with stocking the boxes, somehow she even used some kind of mystery technique to freeze it.

The cooks were pretty pleased, even praising the amount of variety. They eventually forgave the Monkeys, saying that as long as they didn't steal from the kitchen again and kept out of trouble, they wouldn't have a problem.

With the kitchen staffs blessing they all sat down, enjoying some much needed food.

Marco and Magician had made a bet to see who could eat more, Luffy or Dragon. It ended with half the canteen joining in, cheering and placing bets.

The winner was undecided because they ran out of food to actually continue, everyone was pretty peeved about that. Calling sabotage, they broke into a rather messy brawl with the cooks.

The apprentices and the two D's crawled out of there before they could get caught in the middle of it.

They escaped back onto the top deck, where they all decided it was a good idea to not mention the small incident in the Galley.

They didn't want to get in more trouble.

Soooooo...

They got in more trouble...

They were all sat on the ship's whale figure head, in a loose circle. The only one who wasn't sat with them was Dragon, he had decided to sit on bottom step of said figure head, so he was mostly out of earshot.

Why was he being so antisocial? Luffy didn't get it, Dragon was more than happy to speak and joke around with him normally. Why not with these guys? They were really fun and nice.

The straw-hat captain turned his attention to Marco, he was in his fire bird form, stretching his wings and getting ready to fly around the ship for a bit. He hadn't been able to go for a fly for almost 5 days, it had been driving his friend nuts.

As someone who had a devil fruit Luffy could understand his frustration, the power possessed was part of the very being of a person. It was part of that person and not being able to act on it was hard, it was like denying a part of yourself.

Luffy couldn't imagine how Dragon felt, he had told the boy that he had had the shackles on getting on a year. The thought alone made the younger raven feel slightly sick.

They needed to get those awful things off of him!

"Oi, Marco how fast can you fly?"

The fire bird paused, he brought one of his wings under his beak, rubbing it back and forth thinking hard about it.

"Mmmmm, I'm not sure...yoi. I'm faster than normal birds but how fast I dunno."

Luffy nodded, than a thought sprang to mind, before the idea had even formed properly he blurted it out.

"I bet I could make you go even faster"

This peaked the three apprentices interest, they lent forward listening intently to Luffy explanation.

"That sounds awesome! Let's do it, yoi"

"I wish I could fly, Marco your lucky you know that right? That sounds so fun..."

Magician complained wistfully, Marco chuckled obviously proud of it. Jozu was the only one who didn't say anything, he looked intrigued though.

"So how do I go about it, yoi?"

"Grab my shoulders with your talons"

Marco complied, easily landing on Luffy's shoulders and clutching his upper body.

" Fold your wings, the wind will get in the way otherwise"

The young swordsman suggested, the blonde nodded doing as he said.

"Right! Marco when I tell you start flying do it okay"

Marco grinned eagerly looking down at Luffy's face, he gave him a bird equivalent to a thumbs up.

The raven leapt down from the figure head, running towards one of the large masts. The others followed behind, Dragon looked a little concerned, while the younger boys were smiling mischievously.

"Ready?"

"Ready,yoi!"

"Ahhhh! What you guys doi-"

Dragon stopped mid sentence as Luffy threw his hands up, stretching them up to meet the top of one of the sails.

"Gomu gomu no-"

"Oh No! Do-"

"-Rocket!"

It was too late to hear the rest of the older ravens shout as Luffy and Marco were slingshot-ed into the air. They flew straight up, going at a tremendous speed, it was all fun and games until they hit the much larger sail head on and it caught on fire.

They hung off the sail, both of them stunned for a moment.

Then panic mode hit!

"OH CRAP I WASN'T CONCENTRATING ON KEEP MY FLAMES IN CHECK,YOI!"

"UNLIGHT THE FIRE!"

"WHAT! HOW DO I DO THAT!?"

"I DONNO YOUR THE FIRE BIRD GUY!"

"UH OH-"

They slid down the sail, flapping around trying to catch themselves. The flames were spreading, that was the least of their worries as a large gust of wind hit them, sending the boys smack into the wooden main mast.

They didn't have time to recover when the whole flaming canvas hit them, pulling them to the wooden floor, hitting it hard.

"You good?"

"Mmmm, we're in so much trouble, yoi..."

Marco wailed, Luffy reached out finding the boy in a heap next to him. He couldn't see much under the sheet, though the smell of burning was ripe in the air.

Then something cold and wet hit them, Luffy strength left him, making him feel weak. They must have chucked water on them to put out the fire.

Sucking it up, Luffy grabbed Marco the now back to being a boy who had gone limp and dragged them out from under the sail.

He was met with several disapproving and angry looking people, he smiled charmingly in an attempt to lessen the glowering eyes.

It didn't seem to help.

Marco seemed to regain some life, glancing up at the small angry and growing mob. He started laughing nervously, a worried and rather apprehensive smile appearing on his face.

His gaze fixed on a huge figure, he shrunk, in a last ditch effort to avoid trouble he clamped a clammy hand around Luffy's wrist and made a break for it.

They didn't get far as two huge hands grabbed them from behind. Both boys looked at each despairingly.

"Hello brats, where do you think you're off to?"

Whitebeard's POV

Both brats were stood in front of him, fidgeting, refusing to make eye contact.

Guilty as charged.

He had brought them back to his cabin to give them a good old lecture. He had been hesitant about taking Luffy as well, considering his brother's overprotective nature. But he couldn't yell at one without the other, they were both at fault. Dragon would have to put up with it.

Though he couldn't imagine he was having a good time trying to find his little brother. He was probably panicking, Newgate would deal with whatever happened later.

For now these two brats needed a talking to.

Newgate sat down heavily on his bed so he was at a better height to tell them off, crossing his arms and giving them his best stern dad look. He knew that giving them a lecture standing up would just end up giving them a worse case of the nerves, he sometimes hated his height, he would end up being intimidating with out meaning to. Great for terrorizing enemies, not great not for kids. He wanted to tell them off, not scare them.

" Care to explain? Marco? Luffy?"

Marco flinched at his name, stepping back a few paces, which he quickly stopped when the Yonko cleared his throat.

Luffy was looking way to the side, whistling away innocently, swaying a little, arms behind his back.

"No, nothing to say?"

Newgate raised an eyebrow, tapping his fingers on his arm patiently.

"Nothing? So you don't remember anything?"

Marco started to sweat, he was fiddling with his sleeves a clear sign the boy was starting to crack.

Newgate prodded a little more, even though he knew what had happened, getting them to confess was important. This got them to admit they had done something wrong and then he could lay on a punishment. This was the way to discourage that kind of behaviour in the future.

"Nothing about setting a sail on fire?"

His son snapped and the whole thing came tumbling out.

"It was an accident, yoi! We didn't want to set it on fire! It was Luffy's fault he 'rocketed' us wrong, yoi!"

Luffy scowled, turning on the blonde boy.

"Was not! I thought you could fly!"

Marco took offense to that, flames shot out of his shoulders as he bristled.

"You said you would tell me when!"

Luffy got in his face, puffing himself up like a rather non-threatening angry pufferfish.

"You set it on fire! I thought you could control your flames!"

The blonde boy grabbed hold of Luffy's cheeks, pulling at them aggressively. Which prompted the raven to push him off with a hand shoved in his face.

"It's your fault rubber brain, yoi!"

"Nahuh! It's yours pineapple head!"

Newgate watched as the squabble devolved into a rather unimpressive petty brawl on the floor, they were yelling at each with bad insults.

Sighing warily he pried them apart, picking them up from the ground, which ended with both of them turning their backs on each and pouting with crossed arms.

"Are two quite finished?"

"It was his fault!"

"It was his fault, yoi!"

The brats accused simultaneously, they exchanged angry glares. The kids were about to start fighting again, but Newgate placed a arm between them, giving them both a warning look.

"I don't care! You're both at fault!"

"But-"

"He wa-"

"Shut up, the pair of you! You're both in equal trouble!"

His brats shut up, sulking between themselves.

"Right!?"

Newgate demanded, it wasn't a question.

"Yeeeesss..."

"Yeahhh, yoi"

The captain snorted unsatisfied, he parked himself back on his bed. Giving the boys the good old fashioned unimpressed dad face, as they continued to mutter complaints under their breaths.

"Now then what to do with you two?"

They both froze, the grumbling stopped abruptly, they looked up at him with big puppy dog eyes, that said 'please don't punish us, we're innocent'.

Newgate ignored them.

"You can help clean out in the kitchen, I heard about that little brawl at lunch time. You boys wouldn't happen to have anything to do with it?"

His kids groaned, Marco in particular looked extremely grumpy about that. He had gotten kitchen duty before, from what Newgate had heard it wasn't pleasant. Lots of cleaning, scrubbing dishes and taking out the trash among other things.

Prefect punishment.

"Come on we're going down there now"

"Why do I have to do that? This isn't even my ship"

Luffy whinged loudly, he had a point but Newgate had a good comeback for him.

"Do you want to pay for the sail? It would be around about a thousand Beli"

A small lie, sails weren't quite that expensive but the boy cringed, he obviously not liking the alternative.

"I guess I'm cleaning kitchen..."

"Come on"

Once he had dropped off Marco and Luffy, giving the chefs strict orders to not let them slack off, they had to stay there until 8pm and when they had finished they had to go straight to bed.

The boys were not happy with him, having had a couple of rude gestures off Marco and Luffy had bluntly told him he was extremely mean, like some one named Nami.

When asked who Nami was the boy had clapped his hands over his mouth and refused to talk to him anymore. Weird, but the little brat was a little odd anyway. Newgate shrugged it off, he wasn't going to press him for answers.

The Yonko made his way back up to the top of the ship, with every intention of going to see the damage the sail was in and see if it needed to be replaced. It was lucky that they had at least one spare for emergencies.

When he was stopped in his tracks by a frantic looking Dragon, he looked as though he had run a marathon, sweat caked his forehead and his breathing was shaking.

Newgate was about to tell him where his little brother was, when the boy ran at him throwing a clumsy kick at his head. The man avoided it without any trouble, avoiding the ones that followed after as well.

"WHERE'S LUFFY! WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!"

Oh dear, looked as though he had really scared the kid. He could understand why he was so upset, but did he really need to attack him.

"He's fin-"

He ducked a rather impressive high sweep kick, the boy landed heavily stumbling slightly, he was clutching his ribs.

"Will you listen and stop attacking me..."

Dragon ignored him in favour throwing himself into a spinning strike, this time Newgate didn't bother to dodge and got hit in the underside of the ribs. It was surprisingly strong, nothing really bothersome to the Yonko but still quite good. He clearly had a lot of fighting experience.

His fighting style wasn't anything like Garp's, his was fast and fluid, with precise strikes that were aimed a vital points, before backing away from hitting range. Garp was heavy hitting, preferring to get up close and personal. He would tank hits or block them, often using his opponents strength against them.

The Yonko wondered if he had been trained by someone else or if he had developed it himself.

The boy kicked him a few more times, Newgate just took them, he had quickly realised that the kid wasn't really trying. He was just upset, taking his panic out on whatever was in his path. The captain just happened to be a big target.

Dragon gave up, he must have gotten the message, Newgate wasn't going to fight back and his kicks weren't doing anything anyway. He was panting angrily, his broken ribs must have been hurting as the raise and fall of his chest was jittery and he had one of his arms covering his side.

"Are you finished?"

The long haired raven grimaced refusing to answer, his eyes disappearing under his shaggy black mane.

"If you had listened, you would know your brother is fine"

His shoulders tensed, shaking his head wildly.

"I don't believe you..."

Newgate sighed a long suffering breath, he pushed his long blonde hair out of his face.

"Well believe me or not, he is."

Dragon bristled, not liking the Yonko's reply. Newgate frowned puzzled, didn't he want his brother to be safe or did he really not believe him.

"Whatever he did he didn't mean any harm. So please don't hurt him..."

The captain looked down at the boy, frown furrowing more, why would he think that?

"Why would I hurt him?"

Newgate was extremely confused and more than slightly concerned, who told him that?

"One of your men said you were going to punish them!"

Dragon shouted accusingly, his eyes flashing dangerously.

Huh? Is that all they said?

"They're on kitchen duty... you know cleaning plates, scrubbing the sinks and..."

The pirate broke off, watching the kid with a small worried glance.

"Huh?"

It was Dragon's turn to look confused, actually he looked completely shocked and bewildered.

"That's it...?"

Newgate nodded seriously, he was starting to become more uneasy.

"What else would I do...?"

Dragon opened and closed his mouth, deep frown forming so much so that he squinted.

"So you didn't hurt them...?"

"Why would I hurt them?"

The ravens face was crumpled up in utter loss, he didn't seem to understand what was happening.

"That's what happens when you do something wrong..."

Dragon stated like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Suddenly Newgate came to the sickening conclusion that he really and truly believed that.

It hit the Yonko like a ton of bricks, this was the reason he didn't trust anyone, he couldn't trust anyone.

Even though the first thing Newgate saw of the boys was getting beaten senseless, it never sank in that it had always been like that. That it was a normal occurrence. It had been ingrained into the kid from such a earlier age that he genuinely believed that this was normal.

Any small mistake would end in a brutal beating. Whether Garp saw anything wrong with what he was doing was anyone's guess.

But this kid was so distrustful, so afraid of causing any small or insignificant thing to happen, scared that it would result in him or his brothers harm.

"I should have punched him much harder..."

Dragon flinched, the blonde man panicked immediately adding:

"I should punched Garp harder"

"Huh? Why?"

Was he really asking that?

"Because that man needs a brutal beating, see how he likes it."

Dragon cocked his head to the side with questioning stare.

"Why bother?"

He was still looking at Newgate nervously, the man pinched the bridge of his nose.

"You really don't get it do you?"

Dragon shook his head. The Yonkos insides twisted painfully, he felt awful for giving this poor brat so much to stress about. Kicking himself for how damn ignorant he had been, how did he not realise this sooner.

"So they're fine?"

Newgate nodded trying to give the kid his gentlest and most reassuring smile. It just seemed to make the boy more suspicious.

"Of course, we can even go down there and you can see for yourself."

Dragon shuffled awkwardly, clearly now that he had gotten that answer, he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do.

Thinking back on it he hadn't ever seen him on his own like this, now that his brother wasn't with him he was completely lost.

He honestly wanted to give the poor boy a hug, but he knew that would only make the boy even more distressed and upset.

Newgate wouldn't have been surprised that any shows of affection were incredibly hard for him to cope with.

He thought back on the last few days, especially the evenings when Marco, Vista and Jozu would come and hang out with him. Dragon would immediately leave, dragging Luffy along with him. Newgate had assumed that it was because he wanted to spend some time on his own with his little brother, that it was a good place to part for the night.

Now though, it was probably more to do with how uncomfortable it made him feel.

It made him wonder how Luffy was so easy going, but then again he was a little strange too. Just in a different way, he was the opposite of Dragon, he got very uneasy if he was on his own, it was rare to seen that happen but when it did he looked overly depressed. Maybe he coped differently, instead of shutting himself off and being antagonistic like Dragon, he just wanted love and attention. Being without didn't work well for him.

It was something for him to think over, for now though taking Dragon to see Luffy took precedence over his other jobs. Showing him that he was safe was much more important.

Newgate decided in that moment that he was going to earn this kids trust. He was going to ensure that they stayed with him on his ship, where he could take care of them and make sure they would know that life was more than fearing for their health. They would have a caring family.

Looks like I have two more sons to look after.
