If you don't like 30 years before then that's fine, you don't need to tell everybody about it with vulgar language, there are underage people who read the comments and they don't need read stuff like that.
Secondly I'm not changing the story because some random doesn't like the story. Don't like it then go and read something else. Nobody is forcing you read this.
I'm writing this because I like it! Not for any other reason, this simply is self indulgent nonsense. It's a fanfic! Not something offensive.
Luffy's POV
Luffy and the apprentices had followed Newgate to a much more plain part of the deck. It was clear from structures and anything that would get damaged in a fight, probably a good place to train.
"Here we are" announced Magician. Luffy studied the surroundings, there was two support beams on either side of them, he took notice of them as they would make good slingshot places.
There wasn't much else he could see that would be overly helpful, but this was training. It wasn't supposed to be easy, he knew how hard it could get, especially when he thought back on his time with Rayleigh.
How was he supposed to get stronger if everything was a walk in the park, anyway Newgate was a Yonko so he had to be able to teach Luffy something new.
"Hey Luffy guess what we get if we win, yoi" Marco said turning to his raven friend with a grin.
The straw-hat captain wasn't really interested in winning, not that Luffy wouldn't mind winning but that wasn't why he had come with them. He wanted to get stronger before his fight with Kaido.
"The Chefs will cook us anything we want if we win, yoi"
Never mind Luffy wanted to win, he wanted to win a lot.
The small bit of brain power that the young captain possessed was suddenly overtake with meat. Meat dancing in his mind, nothing else mattered anymore. Meat. MEAT!
"They'll cook me lots of meat!" Luffy drooled, his eyes were sparkling brightly.
"YOSH!" He turned to Newgate a large grin was thrown his direction, he was going to win that meat. He slammed his fists together eagerly. "I'm going to kick your ass old man!"
Luffy threw himself into a fast run towards the older captain.
The Yonko chuckled mockingly, he lent forwards a little adjusting his height so he was in a better position to punch the kid. "Is that right little brat."
The raven briefly heard Marco call after him, something about a plan he didn't know about. However, Luffy dismissed the plan thing, why did they need a plan when they were fighting. Fighting was fighting.
Luffy felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, his observation haki activated in that moment, he realized that the Yonko was right next to him, his fist drawn back.
"Oh crap he's faster then I thought! I can't get out of the way!" The straw-hat captain thought out loud, he only had time to bring his arms up and in front of his face to block the hit.
"LUFFY!" Luffy's blonde friend shouted.
His sore injured wrists stung as the punch landed, he was thrown backwards, sent rolling and skidding over the floor boards, he did manage to catch himself as he tumbled, landing on his feet and slid to a halt.
The mystery bird flew over to where the raven had landed, he pushed himself up with his hand to his knee, glaring angrily in Newgates direction.
"Are you okay, yoi?" Marco asked worry dripping from his tone, Luffy didn't know why he was so concerned, it's not like the punch had really hurt all that much, in fact Luffy was annoyed that the old man wasn't trying to cause him harm.
What kind of training was this?
Training was supposed to be rough, yet that hit hardly bothered the teenager at all.
When Luffy would train with Ace and Sabo when he was young, that was tough and challenging, it hurt a lot too. Same thing with Rayleigh.
This wasn't training or even a regular old spar. He didn't want to win a pointless fight when his adversary wasn't even trying, even if he got meat out of it.
"Hey! Are you even trying!" Luffy accused loudly, standing up straight, he gave the Yonko a pouty almost childish look, which only got a wide amused grin off the man.
"Come on you aren't even trying" The raven huffed, crossing his arms firmly.
He was so annoying! He wanted a good fight! Some good training. Not whatever this was.
"Come on fight me properly!" He challenged, giving Newgate a serious blazing stare.
Marco laughed nervously, his eyes wide with surprise "Luffy are you serious, yoi?"
"Of course!" The older teen confirmed without a second thought, he slid his sharp gaze to his blonde friend for a second, before turning them back on the Yonko, who was still beaming from amusement.
As the young captain often did when he was feeling especially serious or adamant about something, he grabbed his straw-hat from round his neck and sat on it his head. Somehow, even though it was a straw-hat, Luffy suddenly looked almost cool.
"I refuse to fight someone who isn't even trying!" The way Luffy said it with such surety made Marco gasp and suddenly the boy was sparkling brightly with awe.
"Luffy that's so cool, yoi!"
Marco's older brother on the other hand didn't look nearly as impressed, in fact he peered through half lidded eyes and sighed.
"No, it's foolish"
The blonde teen continued to ignore Magician which made his eyebrow twitch with slight frustration. Luffy chuckled a little he found it a little bit funny, but he quickly went back to being serious.
"Now fight me properly" He challenged again this time with a bit more volume.
Magician rolled his eyes, muttering. "There's no way he'll agree to that"
But to Luffy delight Magician was proved wrong when Newgate laughed "Alright Brat"
There was a several gasps from the apprentices, they all looked taken back.
Newgate lent over Luffy pointing towards him, until he realized that he was actually counting conditions on his hands. The raven appreciated the lack of dancing around the subject, he just got straight to the point.
"Two conditions. It's one V one-" The Yonko prodded Luffy lightly in the forehead, most likely trying get those two conditions into Luffy's head "-Neither of us can use our devil fruits"
"Huh? Why?" Luffy cocked his head to the side puzzled.
Newgate just snorted cheerfully, giving the kid a fond head ruffle " I don't want to break the ship more"
"DEAL!" Luffy grinned widely, chuckling triumphantly as he readjusted his hat. He wasn't overly keen on people touching his hat, but at that moment in time he was way too pleased with himself to really care.
Newgate stood up to his full height again, gazing down at the teen, he clicked his fingers bringing Luffy attention back to him before he lost his concentration.
"Same rules apply, you get me on my back within ten minutes or less and you win"
"I got it!" The raven crossed his arms nodding excitedly, a big wide toothy smile on his face.
Magician sighed heavily shaking his head, his body language screamed tired and aspirated older brother.
"Dragon is not gonna be happy..."
Jozu hummed in agreement, he had a worried expression. Luffy didn't really get why, this is what he wanted to do.
Also, it didn't matter what Dragon thought, this was his decision anyway, nothing to do with him.
Dragon always did what he wanted and now Luffy was just doing exactly the same thing. How was that any different?
"This is going to be so cool, yoi!" At least Marco was being supportive. That was until Magician butted in.
"Marco, you have to tell Dragon that Pops broke his brother"
The blonde scowled at him, looking more than a little horrified. "Why me, yoi?"
"Luffy's your friend..." The swordsman said simply.
Luffy opted to ignore the apprentices after that he had more interesting things to think about, like fighting a Yonko for meat.
That was way more important.
With that out of the way the teen got into a fighting position, adjusting his weight evenly, all he had to do was knock him on his back.
That couldn't be too hard, right?
He ran at him, full throttle, drawing back his hand into a fist and launched himself at Newgate without warning.
This time Luffy was aware that the Yonko was faster than he looked, in fact the straw-hat captain hadn't expected him to be as fast as he was.
He was big and heavy, so he had assumed that he would be slower, much more likely to take a hit or block one, then actually move out the way and then turn around and attack him.
He remembered watching Newgate at Marineford, he hadn't really moved all that much, people always seemed to bring the fight to him rather than initiating it himself.
But maybe that was because he was an old man, maybe he simply couldn't do that anymore? Then again Gramps was old and so was Rayleigh, they had never had any trouble.
Luffy had more solid idea as to why though, he didn't really like it all that much.
Newgate was much sicker than he had let on. Luffy recalled a conversation he had with Ace; it had been about their crews. When Ace had mentioned Whitebeard, he had said that the older captain was sick, so sick in fact that he had machines to help with his health. At the time Luffy hadn't really been very interested, but now he kind of wished he'd paid closer attention to what his brother had told him.
Just like Luffy's Observation haki predicted, Newgate ducked the hit, then he decided the best course of action would be to roll into a kick instead. But to his surprise, the blonde man had seen that coming, catching his leg, then he proceeded to toss him towards one of the two beams.
Mid-air the teenager spun himself around flipping so his feet hit the wooden pillar, he then pushed off, flying back at Newgate, he threw several punches, the Yonko dodged all but one of them. His haki covered fist struck his face, but with no elasticity behind it really didn't do all that much.
Any normal person would have really felt the hit, yet the Yonko didn't seem to feel anything.
Something was off about that, that was strong hit even without his devil fruit, however it almost felt as though his fist had hit something much harder than somebody's face.
Did he use Haki harding at the last second?
The Yonko smacked him away with the back of his hand, sending Luffy hurling into the wooden beam. The teen hit it pretty hard, but a second later he was back to charging at man again, having shaken off most of the hit.
As he was running towards Newgate, the ship shook slightly as the blonde man slammed his fist into the floor causing the teenager to lose his footing briefly. At first Luffy thought that he had used his fruit power, but quickly dismissed it, the Yonko didn't seem to be the type to disregard his own rules so easily. So, it must have been his brute strength.
The raven looked up as he dashed and he saw that he had disappeared in a split second and then something heavy hit him from the sky.
His body slammed heavily into the deck; he heard the boards crunch underneath him. This hurt a lot more than the punch from earlier, so much so that the air was knocked out of his lungs.
A large boot had been what had hit him, now he was pinned under his foot. He struggled, yet it was like a mountain had been dumped on top of him. He would know what that felt like too, because at Little Garden a similar thing had happened.
A large boot had been what had hit him, now he was pinned under his foot. He struggled, yet it was like a mountain had been dumped on top of him. He would know what that felt like too, because at Little Garden a similar thing had happened.
Then to Luffy utter annoyance, the Yonko full weight was suddenly crushing him as he had decided to sit down. The raven was trapped, he tried to shake him off to no avail.
"Get off!"
In response the Yonko started laughing, the boy tried to punch him and kick him. Nothing.
Now if he had his devil fruit, there may have been a way to get out...
But the deal was no devil fruits...
There had to be another way, well technically there was one, but did that count as using a devil fruit power.
"Tick tock brat, times running out or have you given up. Guess no food for you then."
Luffy's brain went blank at the mention of food, meat was all he could think about. He really wanted meat.
Oh, right. He needed get out from under Newgate, why hadn't he done that before...
"Who cares" Luffy muttered, pulling his arm out from under the Yonko. The young captain sucked in a harsh breath which was quite painful considering his sore ribs and that he was being sat on.
He bit into his finger, puffing air into it, causing his arm to swell to massive proportions which forced the man off when made a huge swing at him.
"3rd gear! Elephant Gun!"
Newgate jumped backwards, as Luffy slung a massive muscular fist at him, which promptly smashed a huge hole into the floor boards.
Newgate scowled "Luffy no devil fruits!"
"Huh what!? Are you dumb of course theres devil fruits" The boy exclaim in response, what was he talking about they were fighting...?
He frowned, not getting it. His arm shrunk again; the bandages that had been wrapped around it were on leaving the nasty red scar around his wrist on full display.
Newgate slapped his hand to his face, shaking his head in aspiration, before looking up at him angrily. "You little brat do ever listen! You broke my ship!"
"Huh! What are you going on about! Let's fight already! I don't care about that!"
"You better run brat, the next time I hit you it's going to be lot worse!" The Yonko growled, before smiling nastily, this time running at Luffy. For once the teenager actually got the messagen deciding to take his advice, running away, dodging a tremor fueled punch, which caused one of the beams to collapse.
"Get back here you little punk!"
"NOOOO! Why would I do that! That's really dumb!"
Another hit flew past him, a crater appeared under foot as a kick was forced into the floor. Luffy jumped over it with ease, catching hold of a flying floor board as he went, which he used as a blunt weapon. Newgate blocked it, but the young captain followed through with a haki infused 'Gatling gun", stray shots were fired off as the Yonko dodged them, finding their way to smash through several wooden planks.
Luffy once again used 3rd gear, this time forcing all the air into his leg, kicking the man with a elephant stamp, he knocked it away after a moments struggle, causing the boy to be thrown into the floor boards again, crushing them under his leg's weight.
While the raven was recovering, the Yonko followed up with a sharp knee to the chest, which Luffy at the last second managed to avoid by rolling. His knee sent splinters flying, he was about grab the teen when another bullet punch was shoved into his side.
This carried on for a while, they exchanged blows, over time it started to wear the boy down, he was panting heavily and he heaved as he tried to keep up with Newgate, but he was slowly running low on steam.
One thing Luffy had forgotten was how much his injuries actually bothered him, the head wound in particular was the one that was starting to become worse.
He was feeling dizzy and a little sick, though his painful ribs weren't much better. Yet Luffy refused to back down, he was stubborn beyond belief, to the point that even though Newgate was irritated over the hole Luffy had made, he had even started let up a little.
Simply put, the straw-hat captain was not going to lose. Even if he lost consciousness first.
Their 'training' (having dissolved into a angry brawl, mostly being an argument at who had destroyed more of the ship) only ended when a shrill and angry Icy-Chan came storming over, followed by the Horn-helmet.
"What the hell is going on!"
Luffy was in the middle of an attack when the shout sent it off centre, bouncing off harmlessly. Newgate also froze, the man had the boy in a headlock and was in the middle of pulling at his cheek while giving him lecture.
"Oh, hello Whitey and Atmos... I was just in the middle of telling of-"
"POPS! I SWEAR TO GOD AS THIS SHIPS SHIPWRIGHT AND YOUR OLDEST SON, YOU BETTER TELL ME WHY MY HARDWORK IS IN RUINS AGAIN, why do you keep ruining my poor ship..."
"Son... I can explain. It was this br-" Newgate broke off when he saw how outraged Atmos was. Making the excellent decision to stop what he was about to say.
"We'll fix it. Right Lu?" He announced as he let the kid out of the headlock, causing Luffy to stumble a little.
"He's kind of scary... he reminds me of Nami" The raven shuddered, there was just something that made him think of his navigator, not exactly a pleasant thought when it was an angry Nami.
"What did that girl do to you...?"
"Women are scary..."
Newgate nodded in agreement as he glanced at his daughter, who was looking about ready to strangle somebody.
"No argument there..."
