It was no secret that Prince Hans of the Southern Isles was reviled by his family. Growing up, his father and siblings barely paid him any attention. However, upon returning from Arendelle after he tried to kill Elsa and steal the throne, he finally got the attention he desperately sought after all these years. Of course, it wasn't good attention. The Royal family of the Southern Isles despised Hans for tarnishing their good name. Any family would hate to have an attempted murderer in their family, but for a royal family to have one, now that was tragic. In the years since his attempted coup, Hans had lived a miserable life within the palace. For a whole straight year, he was forced to do menial chores as punishment for his crimes. His father didn't speak to him, and his brothers treated him no better. Even the citizens of Arendelle scorned the youngest prince for his dastardly deeds. Though he still maintained his royal status, he was still a part of the royal bloodline, Hans could no longer partake in any of the regal duties that his father and brothers performed. Mostly, his days were spent reading books in the solace of his bedroom. Hans rarely ventured out of the castle. He couldn't stand the constant jeers of the citizens of the Southern Isles. One would think that after such a punishment as his, Hans would regret his actions in Arendelle. This was not the case. Not only did Hans not regret what he'd done, he cursed Anna for ruining his plans. For the past three years, he had gone over it in his head, again and again. How was Anna able to stop him? He left her dying of a frozen heart. But true love ruined the day. Anna's love for Elsa that is. Hans should have ensured Anna's death before going to kill Elsa. That way, she wouldn't have been able to save her sister. When Hans found out that Anna had recently become the new Queen of Arendelle, he was infuriated. How could that naïve, stupid, reckless woman become queen? It was so unfair.
Hans flipped through one of his journals. In the years since he was banished from Arendelle, he had kept a diary of plans to get revenge on Anna and Elsa, but particularly Anna, since she was the main problem. He knew that there was no way that he could get the throne, that much was understood, but if he were to kill Anna, he would find comfort knowing that he had his revenge. The only problem with his plan was getting to Arendelle. Elsa quickly cut all ties with the Southern Isles, following his attempt on her life, so there were no ships going to the kingdom for trading or to attend parties. The only way that Hans could get to Arendelle, was to commandeer a private ship that would take him there. But who would do it? He was reviled throughout the kingdom, there was no way anybody would take him there.
In the evening, while it was pouring down rain, Hans ventured into the inferior side of the kingdom. Crime and poverty were rampant here, but his family didn't do anything to improve the lives of the people here. Hans was disgusted being in this place. So much so, that he wore a cloak to disguise himself. At the end of the docks, he saw an old man wearing tattered clothes. He looked as if he hadn't bathed in years. The old man was covered in dirt and grime, his fingernails black as night, his face bore scars that had become infected over the years. He was a repulsive sight to say the least, but Hans knew that he owned a boat.
Approaching the man, he took off his hood.
"I understand that you charter a fishing boat," Hans said.
The old man coughed loudly into his hands, some spit coming out in the process.
"Aye, you heard, right," he said.
"How much will it cost for you to take me to Arendelle?" Hans asked.
The old man eyed Hans, slowly realizing who he was. This was one of the princes of the Southern Isles. He was asking for a boat ride.
"For a wealthy fellow like you, I'd take you for two hundred gold coins."
Hans expected that it would be a lot. Fortunately, he brought several bags full of coins. He handed them to the old man. As he looked through the bags of gold, the old man eyed each coin hungrily. As a fisherman, he didn't make much money, so this was a handsome reward for giving Hans a ride.
"A pleasure doing business with you. When do you want to leave?" he asked.
"Tonight," Hans said. It was all settled. Hans had left a note saying he would be out of town for a while. Not that anyone would care, but he thought he should do it just the same. The old man would take him to Arendelle. Once there, he would take refugee at an inn nearby, while he waited for the perfect opportunity to kill Anna.
With the deal set, the old man led Hans to his boat, which was a small sailing ship that had clearly seen better days. While Hans was disgusted to be in the presence of this man, he knew that it was worth it for what he desired.
By now, the rain had stopped, and the old man steered the ship out of port.
"It'll be a few days, before we arrive," he said.
"That's fine. I'll be in the cabin. Do not disturb me until we've arrived," Hans ordered.
The old man nodded, watching as Hans went to the cabin. Upon entering, Hans snorted in disgust. Much like the old man, the cabin was filthy. It looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. Hans laid down on the disgusting looking bed. Taking out his journal, he turned to the page, where the words "Anna will die" were written over and over again. These words had been etched in his brain for three years. It felt surreal that they would soon be true.
A/N: This is just the opening chapter. The next chapter will be more exciting. This story is going to be one of the most interesting ones I've written.
