Episode 6: The Escape

Paradis Island
It was eleven at night when Kristina gazed out of her window, staring at the crescent moon shining brightly in the dark sky, lustering the trees with shiny silver. The night was dark and quiet, as if no soul existed meters within the radius of her being.
She sighed.
For the first time in her life, she felt trapped. Not that she didn't love her mother anymore, or detested her thoughts in any way, but knowing how persistent her mother was, she knew that she was going to end up getting married to someone very soon.
She didn't want that at all.
And ever since the idea of running away had appeared in her mind… well, she hadn't had clearer thoughts.
The idea remained in the back of her mind with every thought she had. She was practically tormenting herself with the negative scenarios all this time, ever since she had the talk with Historia - this morning.
Kristina pulled at her own hair, groaning in frustration. She left the window sill and walked back to her dimly lit room, nearing the bed, and on an impulse, she opened her cupboard and threw a couple of skirts and blouses on her bed - not too fancy, but comfortable.
Tying them up in a bundle, covering the outfits with a larger cloth, she grabbed some money and breathed in and out heavily.
Was she really doing this? Was she going to terrify her mother that easily? Was she going to ruin her family's reputation in mere seconds?
How would she survive all alone?
Kristina stopped midway. The inner turmoil was morphing into frustration for her, and with one last exhale, she picked up the bundle and a hooded cape, so that she could hide and people didn't recognise her.
Wearing that cape and covering the upper half of her face, she flung her bundle over her shoulder and commenced moving towards the door of her room, but halted. There would be guards everywhere around her room.
And her window was the sole exit for her.
So she climbed up the window sill and latched herself onto the pillar closest to her, slowly sliding down. She looked down at the ground, and seeing it so far down, she clenched her eyes shut and held the pillar closer to herself.
It took her about ten minutes to slide down it, and once her feet touched the ground, she breathed out in relief. Next, she looked around for guards, and seeing one of them snoring away not-so-far from her, she picked up his rifle and tip-toed away from him, towards the entrance of the castle.
She walked soundlessly, her breathing erratic, so she placed a hand over her nose and mouth. Reaching the huge gates of the palace, she cautiously walked towards the two guards on duty, and going behind one of them, she used the rifle like a bat, and swung it, and hit him on the head.
"Ahh!" the guard cried out in pain, alerting the other guard, and as he yelled and ran towards her, she prayed an apology to him and shot him in the leg.
The guards yelled out in agony, and before the other guards could collect and create chaos, she took the opportunity to run away with the rifle in her hands and her bundle over her shoulder.
As she sprinted across the long path of the gardens and trees aligned on the sides, she cast one last look at the palace, and turning away, she increased her speed and crossed the estates of the palace.
The marketplace was shut down, only the eerie noise of nothingness and the distant cry of the guards was heard. Her legs hurt, but she continued to run - away from her family, away from her planned fate.
And that's when she heard a voice in her head,
"Run… run to your doom."
