Chapter 6
Kittycorn and Shy's First Date
As Shy made her return to the Unikingdom, she started to wonder what she should do when she meets up with Kittycorn. Her romantic feelings towards Kittycorn got harder for her to ignore every second. It wasn't long before she finally took notice of Unikitty's castle in the distance. After a few moments of consideration, Shy finally decided on what she should do.
Shy decided that she should finally ask Kittycorn out on a date. The doom lord took a few steps closer to the castle, mentally telling herself that she can do this.
"Hi, Shy!"
The sound of Kittycorn's voice caused Shy to let out a scream before she turned around, feeling more nervous than ever.
"Oh, sorry, Shy!" Kittycorn apologized. "Didn't mean to scare you. I was just excited to see you again."
"Th-That's okay, Kittycorn. I was just a little shaken up." Shy gave a nervous smile. "So how is the baby doing?"
"Foxodile is doing well! I don't think I can say the same about Hawkodile and Dr. Fox though. They are both exhausted, but I suppose that's what happens when you watch over a baby for the first time."
"Yes. I suppose so." Shy replied as she barely kept eye contact with Kittycorn.
Kittycorn began to notice that so she said, "Shy, are you feeling alright? You seem to be a little more, uh, shy than you usually are."
Since Shy couldn't hide her emotions any longer, she decided to finally ask Kittycorn out.
"Um, Kittycorn? Can I ask you something?"
"Sure! You can ask me anything!" Kittycorn smiled.
With a deep breath, Shy said, "I was just wondering if you would like to have a picnic with me later tonight. If you are busy tonight then that's perfectly fine too!"
Judging from Shy's body language and how nervous she was acting, Kittycorn finally figured it out. "Shy, are you asking me out on a date?"
It was by this point when Shy immediately regretted her decision. She pulled down her hood to cover her embarrassment.
"I'm so sorry! It was a stupid idea! Please just forget that I said anything!" Shy turned to run, only for Kittycorn to grab her hand.
"Shy, wait! I would love to go on a date with you!"
The shy doom lord soon turned around, hoping that she hadn't misheard her friend.
"Y-You really mean it?"
Kittycorn nodded. "Of course! Meet me outside the castle tonight at 7, and I will get the food and picnic blanket ready!"
Just the thought going on a date with Kittycorn made this the best day of Shy's life. She felt as though a weight was lifted off her chest.
"Okay. I'll see you tonight." Shy nervously walked away as she could barely contain her excitement.
Once Shy left, Kittycorn made her return to the castle. Despite how calm she initially was, deep down, she felt as nervous as Shy. Kittycorn had never gone on a date with anyone before, so it was hard for her to stay calm. The princess soon walked towards the kitchen where she slumped over on the table and took a couple of cookies to eat. As Kittycorn was thinking about this unexpected turn of events, Unikitty and Puppycorn walked in the kitchen to see that their adopted daughter seemed strangely quiet.
"Sis? I think something is troubling Kittycorn." Puppycorn noticed.
"You're right, little bro! I'll go ask her what's wrong." Unikitty then approached her adopted daughter and asked, "Kittycorn? Are you feeling okay? You're not sick are you?"
"I'm not sick, Mom. It's just that I agreed to go on a date with Shy, and I really don't want to mess it up." Kittycorn explained.
"Wait. Shy just asked you out on a date?" Unikitty took a moment to process this before she and Puppycorn got excited. "Oh my gosh! Puppycorn, did you hear that? Kittycorn is in love!"
Embarrassed from her mother's reaction, Kittycorn covered her face in embarrassment. "Mom, please! This isn't helping!"
"You don't need to be nervous, Kittycorn. Unikitty and I went on our first date when we were around your age." Puppycorn explained.
"I know, but I just want this date to go well." Kittycorn sighed.
"It will! Puppycorn and I actually had a feeling that you and Shy were in love with each other, and we actually feel that you two are perfect for each other." Unikitty assured.
"Do you really think so?" Kittycorn asked, to which Unikitty and Puppycorn nodded in unison. "Thanks, Mom and Dad! Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get ready for my date with Shy."
After several hours of getting ready, Kittycorn gathered everything that she needed for tonight. She carried a picnic blanket along with a couple of sweets that she made herself. It was almost 7 and Kittycorn walked down the stairs where she was greeted by her adoptive parents.
"So, do you think that I'm ready? I hope that the sweets I made are going to taste good." Kittycorn hoped.
"I think they look great, Kittycorn! Can I try one? They look delicious!" Puppycorn noticed.
Unikitty shook her head. "No, Puppycorn! Kittycorn made these sweets for her date. Besides, you would just end up eating all of them anyway!"
"Good point! Are you sure that you don't want us to come along to make sure your date goes well, Kittycorn?" Puppycorn asked.
"No. I can handle this, so please don't embarrass me in front of Shy!" Kittycorn begged.
With that, Kittycorn decided to open the front door where Shy was waiting. Even though they already had several hours to prepare for their date, Kittycorn and Shy still felt a little nervous about tonight. Normally, Shy was the only one who was nervous, so it was a surprise for her to find Kiittycorn as nervous as she was. It was at that point when Kittycorn decided to break the awkward silence.
"So, thank you for coming, Shy. You look lovely this evening." Kittycorn tried to think of her best greeting.
"Oh, thank you, Kittycorn. You look nice too." Shy replied.
Kittycorn actually felt that this night was going to go well. At least, until her mom suddenly decided to make everything awkward.
"Aww! So cute!" Unikitty squealed, much to Kittycorn's embarrassment.
"Kittycorn is growing up so fast, isn't she, sis?" Puppycorn commented.
"She sure is, little bro! Let's take a picture to celebrate!"
Having had enough of her parents embarrassing her, Kittycorn decided that she should just go on her date before Unikitty and Puppycorn could somehow embarrass her even more.
"Okay, bye!" Kittycorn held on to Shy's hand before she left the castle.
As Kittycorn left, Unikitty and Puppycorn started to wonder if they should make sure that the date goes well.
"Sis? Maybe we should check on Kittycorn and Shy to make sure that they would have a good time together." Puppycorn suggested.
"You're right, little bro! Let's go!"
Unikitty and Puppycorn were about to leave when Richard showed up at the last second.
"Absolutely not! Princess Kittycorn made it perfectly clear that she doesn't want to be bothered on her date with Shy! Now, I suggest that you two stay in the castle while the princess and Shy have their date."
"Oh, alright!" Unikitty and Puppycorn sighed in unison before they walk back to Unikitty's room.
Back outside the castle, Kittycorn and Shy walked together for a couple of moments as they enjoyed the beautiful night. The stars were twinkling and the moon gave a bright glow. It wasn't long before Kittycorn placed the picnic blanket on the ground and set out all the snacks she made.
Shy noticed that spread across the blanket were snacks like cookies, cupcakes, and brownies. Once they sat down, the two friends began to eat.
"Wow! This cupcake tastes so good!" Shy complimented.
"Thanks, Shy! I made it myself!" Kittycorn replied.
"Well, that's incredible! Do you think that you can teach me how to back too?" Shy asked.
"That's a promise!"
Meanwhile in Unikitty's room, Unikitty and Puppycorn were laying around, feeling bored. Every second, they were worrying about Kittycorn's date with Shy and hoped that the date would go well.
"Ugh! This is so boring!" Puppycorn complained.
"I know, Puppycorn. I'm just so worried about Kittycorn! What if she's nervous? She has never gone on a date before." Soon Unikitty stood up as she finally made up her mind. "You know what? Let's just see how Kittycorn's date is going so far to see if she needs any help. This is her first date after all!"
"But what about Richard? He would notice that we are gone! If only we can make some life-sized cutouts of ourselves." Puppycorn explained.
At that moment, Unikitty let out a gasp as she came up with an idea. "Puppycorn, you are a genius! Just follow my lead!"
With that, Unikitty took out some wood as she and Puppycorn began to make life-sized cutouts of themselves. It took a couple of minutes, but they eventually got it.
Despite not looking the least bit convincing, the siblings were satisfied with the cardboard cutouts of themselves.
"We did it, sis! Richard won't be able to tell the difference!" Puppycorn smiled.
"No he won't, little bro! Now we just have to sneak out of here!"
Unikitty then opened the window before she and Puppycorn sneaked their way down the castle. Once the siblings were gone, Richard started to get suspicious. He floated passed the room a couple of times and began to notice that it was strangely quiet. Feeling suspicious of the siblings, Richard floated over to the door before giving it a knock.
"Queen Unikitty? King Puppycorn? Are you in there?"
When nobody replied, Richard opened the door to find an open window, along with two cardboard cutouts of Unikitty and Puppycorn standing right in front of him.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me!" Richard gave an annoyed sigh.
Despite the fact that Unikitty and Puppycorn are the king and queen, Richard still planned to give them a strict lecture once they get back.
Back outside the castle, Kittycorn and Shy were having a wonderful date so far. They ate all of their snacks as they looked up towards the sky. It was a peaceful night and the perfect time to have their date. Kittycorn and Shy smiled before they shyly looked away from each other.
To keep the date from getting awkward, Kittycorn decided to compliment Shy. "So, you look kind of pretty under the moonlight, Shy."
Shy giggled. "Thanks, Kittycorn! You look pretty tonight too!"
Everything was going well, until Kittycorn and Shy suddenly heard a couple of voices. They looked around, but couldn't see anyone.
"Kittycorn, did you hear that?" Shy asked.
"It's coming from over there." Kittycorn pointed to a nearby bush.
The two friends took a few cautious steps towards the bush. The rustling of the bush stopped when Unikitty and Puppycorn fell out of the bush.
"Mom? Dad? What are you two doing here?" Kittycorn asked surprised.
After they recovered from their tumble, Unikitty and Puppycorn stood up, both of them giving nervous grins.
"Oh, hi, Kittycorn! Funny running into you here!" Unikitty tried not to look suspicious.
"We definitely weren't spying on your date to make sure it goes well, if that's what you were thinking!" Puppycorn lied.
At that moment, Kittycorn covered her face, clearly embarrassed by her adoptive parents' actions.
"Please, just leave already!" Kittycorn begged.
Seeing as they weren't needed around, Unikitty and Puppycorn made their way to the castle, where they were sure that Richard was going to give them a lecture for the hundredth time.
Once Unikitty and Puppycorn left, Shy gave a slight giggle. "Sorry about your parents, Kittycorn."
"Oh, they meant well. They just wanted our date to be perfect, so I can't stay mad at them." Kittycorn smiled.
"So, you have been through a lot with your parents, haven't you?" Shy asked.
Kittycorn nodded. "Yeah. After being their daughter for 5 years, I have grown to appreciate them. They are the best parents ever!"
As Kittycorn talked about her parents, Shy couldn't help but think back to the days when she would spend time with her parents. They were always caring and protective of her. Just thinking back to those times made Shy want to cry, knowing that she would never see her parents again.
"It must be nice to be part of a family." Shy muttered under her breath.
"Huh? What did you say?" Kittycorn asked.
"Uh, nothing!" Shy nervously looked away.
After a few moments of awkward silence, Kittycorn decided to break the silence by asking a question.
"Hey, Shy. I don't know if you know this, but tomorrow, my parents are going to be throwing a party for the kingdom. Would you like to come with me? It would really mean a lot."
Shy's eyes widened at the mention of the party. She knew that this was going to be the day that she would have to prove herself to Master Death. Shy soon realized that she has been silent for too long, so she decided to reply so she won't seem suspicious.
"Oh, sure! I would love to go with you, Kittycorn!"
"Yay!" Kittycorn cheered. "I'm sure that we would have a fun time together, Shy!"
"Right. Guess I'll be going now. I'll see you tomorrow, Kittycorn."
Shy turned to leave, but Kittycorn could tell that her friend didn't want to go back to Frown Town. The princess soon came up with an idea before she called out for her friend.
"Shy, wait. Would you like to stay the night at the castle? It's getting late, and I know that you don't want to walk all the way to Frown Town."
Surprised by her friend's offer, Shy turned back to the princess and asked, "Do you really mean it?"
Kittycorn nodded. "Of course! We have a spare bedroom in the castle! What do you say?"
"I think I would like that. Thank you, Kittycorn." Shy gave a grateful smile.
With that, Kittycorn decided to pack up the picnic blanket before she led Shy back to the castle. As Shy walked with Kittycorn, she was lost in thought, worried about what might happen tomorrow. Master Death still hadn't told her the whole plan. It made her wonder if she should even go through with Master Death's plan at all. Despite that, Shy didn't have a chose because this could be her one chance to prove herself as a doom lord.
