Chapter 9

Confrontation With Master Death

Dark clouds formed above Frown Town as Unikitty, Puppycorn, and Kittycorn searched for the building Master Death told them to meet him at. As they searched through Frown Town, Kittycorn silently hoped that Shy wasn't hurt, or worse. Kittycorn would do anything to make sure that Shy was safe. Once she finally rescued Shy, the first thing Kittycorn would do would be to apologize and make up with her.

As Unikitty, Puppycorn, and Kittycorn searched for the building, it began to rain. Thankfully, they were finally able to find the building before the weather got too bad. Once inside, they looked around to see that the inside was dark and dusty. This made Kittycorn feel bad for Shy. She couldn't believe that this was the place that Shy spent the past couple of years of her life.

After a few moments of exploring the abandoned building, Kittycorn noticed something at the center of the room. Kittycorn got a closer look and was shocked to find Shy tied to a chair and gagged with a white cloth. Shy struggled against her ropes as she let out muffled yells from behind her gag.

"Shy!" Kittycorn rushed over to Shy. "Are you okay? Master Death didn't hurt you, did he?"

Upon noticing Kittycorn, Shy's eyes widened in shock. "Mmmph!" Shy gave muffled screams as if she was desperately trying to warn Kittycorn about something.

"Oh, sorry! Hold on a minute!" Kittycorn then walked behind Shy before untying the cloth from her mouth. "What did you say?"

Now that she was able to speak, Shy yelled, "Kittycorn, you have to get out of here! Master Death is-"

Before Shy could finish, Kittycorn, Unikitty, and Puppycorn heard footsteps walking towards their direction. Unikitty stepped forward in front of her family once she realized who it was. Master Death soon stopped as he sent a sinister grin towards his enemies.

"Ah, how I have waited for this day! The day I finally bring an end to Queen Unikitty and King Puppycorn!" Master Death said to himself.

"Master Death!" Unikitty glared at the psychotic doom lord. "Let Shy go!"

"I can't do that, Queen Unikitty! Now that I dragged you and your family out here, it's time that I put an end to you and Puppycorn once and for all!"

With that, Master Death used his dagger to cut down wooden beams of the already unstable building. This caused a bunch of wooden debris to fall on top of the siblings.

"Mom! Dad!" Kittycorn gasped before rushing over to the wreckage.

Despite being covered in bruises, Unikitty and Puppycorn appeared to be fine. However, they appeared to be stuck, so they couldn't break free of the wreckage.

"We're fine, Kittycorn!" Unikitty assured her adopted daughter.

"It is just a little dusty under here!" Puppycorn explained.

Master Death couldn't believe what he was seeing. "You are still alive?"

"Sorry, Master Death! You can't get rid of us that easily!" Puppycorn taunted.

With a growl, Master Death turned to Kittycorn before he said, "Very well! Looks like I'll just have to kill your daughter first!"

At that moment, Unikitty and Puppycorn gasped in unison before they yelled, "Kittycorn, run!"

As Kittycorn backed away from Master Death, she took this opportunity to free Shy. Kittycorn struggled with untying the knot at the back of Shy's chair as Master Death stepped closer.

"Kittycorn, you need to get out of here! Just forget about me!" Shy yelled.

"I'm not leaving you, Shy! I won't let Master Death hurt you again!"

As Kittycorn said that, she managed to free Shy from her ropes. With Shy free, Kittycorn grabbed on to her hand before dragging her up the stairs.

"I'll just give them a head start! It will make killing them more interesting!" Master Death gave a dark chuckle. "I hope you said your goodbyes to Kittycorn because this will be the last time you would see her alive again."

Furious with what Master Death said, Unikitty clawed through as much debris as she could so that she was face to face with the doom lord.

"Master Death, I swear if you lay one hand on my daughter, I'll-"

"Please! Spare me the threats!" Master Death interrupted. "I'll deal with you two right after I finish off your daughter!"

Once Master Death climbed up the stairs to follow Kittycorn and Shy, Puppycorn tried to move as much rubble out of the way as possible, but to no avail.

"What are we going to do, sis?" Puppycorn turned to Unikitty, who started to get more and more angry ever second. "Uh, sis?"

Before Puppycorn could react, Unikitty transformed into Angry Kitty as she tore apart the wood surrounding her and Puppycorn. It wasn't long before all of the debris was destroyed, leaving Puppycorn surprised by what happened.

"Wow! I've never seen you so angry before, sis!"

Unikitty soon calmed down after taking a couple of deep breaths. "Sorry, Puppycorn. It's just that nobody should threaten a child in front of her own mother. Now, come on! We need to find Kittycorn and Shy before Master Death finds them."

With that, Unikitty and Puppycorn rushed up the stairs where they searched every room for Kittycorn and Shy.

Meanwhile, Kittycorn and Shy ran up as many stairs as possible until they eventually reached the roof of the building. Before they could get too far, they reached the edge of the roof, so there was nowhere left for them to run.

"Oh no! It's a dead end!" Shy gasped.

"Don't worry! I'm sure that we can find another way!" Kittycorn assured.

The two friends turned to find another way only to see Master Death blocking their only way.

"You are not going anywhere! It's about time that I finally bring an end to you and your parents, Princess Kittycorn. Master Shyness has also worn out her usefulness, so I think I will kill her as well!"

Lightning flashed as Master Death drew out his dagger. He ran towards Kittycorn and Shy, who dodged his dagger swipes. However, Shy ended up slipping on the roof, thanks to the rain. At that moment, Master Death raised his dagger in an attempt to stab Shy. Thankfully, Kittycorn managed to jump on Master Death and hold him back at the last second.

"Leave Shy alone!" Kittycorn yelled

"Get off of me, you wretched brat!" Master Death yelled back.

"No! You have caused Shy so much pain, and I will never forgive you for that! You are a terrible mentor and a horrible person!"

Having had enough of dealing with the princess, Master Death shook her off and slapped her so hard, it caused her to slip off the roof. Kittycorn managed to save herself at the last second as she held onto the edge of the roof, gripping for dear life.

"Kittycorn!" Shy yelled upon seeing her friend in danger.

Master Death stepped closer to Shy, but she ended up kicking him, causing him to trip and drop his dagger. Wasting no time, Shy got back up, rushed to the edge of the roof, and grabbed Kittycorn's paw. It was hard for Shy to hold on since the rain made the roof slippery. Despite her best efforts, Shy was getting dragged closer to the edge of the roof.

"Shy, let go! You are just going to end up falling too!" Kittycorn said to Shy.

Hearing this just made Shy grip Kittycorn's paw even tighter as tears flowed from her eyes.

"No! I'm never letting go! I will make sure to keep you safe no matter what because I-I love you, Kittycorn! I've always loved you!" Shy confessed as she tried even harder to pull Kittycorn back up.

Shy's confession made Kittycorn blush as she felt Shy pull her back up the roof. Once Kittycorn was safe, the two friends panted from exhaustion. Kittycorn and Shy soon smiled at one another as they stared at each other lovingly.

However, their moment was cut short as Master Death struggled to get back up. Thinking fast, Shy immediately grabbed Master Death's dagger and pointed it towards the doom lord in an effort to protect Kittycorn. As Master Death got back up, he was surprised to see his dagger in Shy's trembling hands.

"Give me my dagger back, Master Shyness!" Master Death ordered.

Shy shook her head. "No! I'm done listening to you! I'm not going to let you hurt Kittycorn!"

"You know, I had always hoped that you would be my successor and continue my legacy, but I was wrong! I have done everything I could to make you the best doom lord you could be, but now I finally realized the truth!" Master Death yelled. "You are a worthless excuse for a doom lord, Master Shyness! I should have just killed you like I had done to your parents!"

Upon hearing Master Death's words, Kittycorn let out a gasp while Shy was in shock. Shy couldn't believe what she was hearing. The shy doom lord glared at Master Death with a mixture of anger and sadness. For the first time in her life, Shy didn't feel any fear towards her mentor. Instead, she felt anger towards the very man who killed her parents and caused her so much pain and suffering.

Without another word, Master Death rushed towards Shy to grab his dagger. It was at that point when Shy and Master Death were fighting over the dagger. After a few moments of fighting, Shy closed her eyes and thrusted the dagger forward. She soon opened her eyes to see that Master Death had been stabbed with his own dagger. Using what little strength he had left, Master Death pulled the dagger out as he struggled to keep his eyes open.

"N-No! This can't be h-happening." Master Death panted, trying his best to stay awake. "M-My legacy must l-live o-on."

With his final breath, Master Death collapsed on the ground, his dagger still in his hand. Master Death remained motionless on the ground as his blood was washed away by the rain. With the doom lord gone, Kittycorn and Shy panted from exhaustion.

Soon, Kittycorn walked over to Shy and asked, "Shy? Are you okay?"

Before Kittycorn could react, Shy immediately embraced Kittycorn in a hug.

"Oh, Kittycorn! I'm so sorry! I never meant to put your family in danger!" Shy cried.

"Please don't cry, Shy! I'm the one who should apologize! I should have realized that Master Death had been using you! You don't have to cry anymore. It's all over, and I'm here for you now."

Shy sniffed before she gave a grateful smile towards Kittycorn. "Thanks, Kittycorn!"

Once they made up, Kittycorn and Shy walked back downstairs, where they heard Unikitty and Puppycorn calling out for them. Upon hearing Unikitty and Puppycorn, Kittycorn and Shy ran down the hall as fast as they could.

"Mom! Dad!" Kittycorn ran towards her adoptive parents.

"Kittycorn!" Unikitty and Puppycorn smiled before they embraced Kittycorn in a hug.

"Are you two okay? I hope Master Death didn't hurt you!" Unikitty hoped.

Kittycorn shook her head. "We're fine, Mom! I promise!"

"We're glad that you two aren't hurt! Let's get out of here before Master Death catches us." Puppycorn suggested, not wanting to stay another minute.

Kittycorn and Shy soon remembered what happened to Master Death as Shy decided to speak up.

"Actually, King Puppycorn. We don't have to worry about Master Death anymore. He's gone." Shy spoke in a soft tone.

Judging from Shy's voice, Unikitty and Puppycorn knew exactly what she meant. They both felt relieved that after everything that had happened, Master Death would never cause them any more pain.

"But Shy, where are you going to live at, now that nobody is watching after you?" Unikitty asked.

Shy pondered Unikitty's question before she replied, "I've honestly never thought about it. I think anywhere would be fine with me. I never liked living here anyway."

"Hey, I have an idea! Why don't you stay with us at the castle?" Kittycorn suggested. "We have a good couple of extra rooms, and we know how much you like it in the Unikingdom!"

At that moment, Shy thought about Kittycorn's idea and liked the sound of it. Even though she only slept over at the castle for one night, it was a lot better than living in Frown Town.

"I think I would really like that." Shy smiled.

"We're happy to hear that, Shy! Now, let's get out of here and go home!" said Puppycorn.

At that moment, everyone left the building as they made their return to the Unikingdom. Words couldn't describe how happy Shy felt to finally leave Frown Town. As they walked down the street, Kittycorn and Shy shared a smile with one another, happy that they finally reconciled.
