"Wow, Lilian. What are you doing here?" I drop the condom on the bin, suddenly disgusted by the position I'm in.
It's the same smell, the same atmosphere, the same lighting even. What is going on?
"Making you have the time of your life, what else, silly?" She looks at me, with what I used to consider very pretty eyes, but it just makes me shiver at this point. Those eyes were my downfall.
I'm so confused. Was it all a dream? Did I sleep with her AGAIN? Bridgette was right. Oh God, was she right?
Wait a second.
"Lilian, what day is it?"
"13th of September. Why?"
September...September! I'm in the past!
Oh crap, I'm in the past.
"I gotta go" I try to get dressed as fast as I can, I need to go back home. I need to see Bridgette.
"Why are you acting so weird?"
"It's over, Lilian. Don't call me, don't text me, and don't look for me. It's over" I declare as I put on my belt.
"What? No! What are you even talking about? I'll tell Bridgette! I-I will tell her and she will leave you. Yes! Is that what you want?"
"Of course not. That is why I'll tell her myself."
"I don't understand. Where are you going?"
"Home, and away from you. Goodbye, Lilian." I open the hotel door, with all my belongings in one hand and I just leave.
Okay, so I am not 100% sure of what is going on right now if I'm being honest. But I need to get home and tell Bridgette everything, if this is the universe's way of giving me one last chance I will fucking take it.
Before I know it I'm opening the door to our home and I enter.
"Bridgette? Bridgette!"
"In the kitchen! I'll be out in just a sec, kitty!" I don't wait for her, I walk straight into the kitchen and wrap her with my arms. "Felix! What's gotten into you?" She giggles prettily.
"I'm sorry, alright? Please don't leave me. Please don't. You're more than enough, I've just been blind and stupid for ever thinking that she would have what you didn't when you have it. I'm so sorry, please, I'm begging you, forgive me."
"Wow, kitty, slow down. I can barely understand a word you're saying."
"I know that you know I've been having an affair." I blurt out. Okay, if I ever had a plan in how I would deal with this, it's just gone out the window.
"W-what?"
"I know that you know, it's a crazy story but I've already lived this day, you're cooking my favorite, right? Because you were planning on it being the last meal you ever cooked for me and-"
"How did you know that?"
"Because I've already lived this day!" I hug her tightly. "Please, please don't leave me. You're the most important thing in my life and I am so so so so very stupid."
"Wow, kitty. Relax." She tries to escape the hug in order to turn down the stove. I let her go, I don't want her to be harmed. "I'll tell you what, go sit on the table and let me finish so we can talk, sound good?"
I nod and I drag myself to the dinner table.
"Do you want any help?"
"No, I got it you just...just sit there." She gives me the tiniest of smiles. "Don't go anywhere."
"I won't. Never again." I bring my knees to my chest. "Never again," I repeat more for myself than her.
The plates are empty. Not a word was spoken other than pleasantries.
"Is there dessert?" She glares at me, I don't know how but I feel myself shrink. "I-I was just trying to be funny."
"Okay, spill. How did you know all that?"
"I...I've relived this day. In fact, this is not like a groundhog day situation, it appears as if I've full-on traveled in time."
"Okay, and how did you achieve that?"
"I don't- I don't know..."
"I'll be honest, Felix. I do not understand how that is possible. I mean, did you use a miraculous to come back in time?" I shake my head. "Then I truly don't know what could be the reason."
"Neither do I...but I am too grateful to question it."
"Why?"
"Last thing I remember from the future...or the past..." I shake my head again. "God this is confusing."
"Let's just refer to it as your reality, okay?"
"Yeah, my reality. Sounds logical." I clear my throat. "Well, as I was saying, the last thing I remember from my reality is that you told me you loved me but asked me to end things. I had asked you to marry me again because you were fakely having sex with your worker and it made me jealous and-"
"Wow wow wow, hold your horses, kitty."
"Yes, sorry. Any questions?"
"Plenty." She sighs. "But I have to be honest and tell you that...I don't really care about your story."
"You don't?" What's with her and breaking my heart over and over?
"Look. The truth is I don't care about how you" she moves her hands trying to find the right words. "know about me knowing. But you do, so, it saves me time." She looks at me, no hesitation. "I want a divorce."
The corner of my eyes burn and I can't help but look down at my empty plate.
"I really can't change your mind, can I? Not in my reality or in this one..."
"No, Felix. You fucked up and you should know the consequences of your actions. It would take a miracle for-"
"A miracle..." I say, breath caught in my throat.
That's it!
"Yes, a miracle."
"A miracle!" I repeat, smiling.
"That's...that's what I just said. Jesus, what is wrong with you?"
"No, cookie. That's it! A miracle! That's how I'm here!"
"I'm still not getting what you mean."
"Your miraculous and mine."
"Yes?"
"They must've brought me here!"
"And can they make you leave?"
"Ouch."
"Sorry, I didn't mean it for it to sound that rude."
"I deserve it. You're forgiven." She tries to hide her smile by playing with her glass. "I'm not getting you back, am I?"
She stops fidgeting and looks at me for a millisecond. She fixes her posture and clears her throat.
"I don't think your heart could truly take it, Felix."
"Try me. Please. All I want is to know what I can do to make things right."
"You need a miracle."
"I already had one."
"Unlucky you." She mocks. "Sorry. That was rude."
"No, no. I deserve it." The ring on my finger feels heavier all of a sudden. "It seems as if I brought you down with me."
"You certainly did."
"I'm sorry."
She shrugs, blinking away the tears.
"Too late for apologies."
We remained silent. There isn't much to talk about other than me screwing up. Everything has been pretty much said.
"Have you talked to Plagg about your...time traveling situation?"
"It...didn't occur to me. I don't even know where he is."
"He's probably with Tikki and Marinette. I told them I wanted some privacy for tonight's dinner." She informs me very quietly, as if against her better judgment.
"Thanks." I want to say more. I want to apologize. I want to explain. I want to just hear her voice. "Why are you helping me?"
She doesn't respond. She opens her mouth ever so slightly and still does not utter a word. I give her time. I just want to be here, with her.
"In your reality...I gave you one last chance, didn't I?"
"Yes, yes you did."
"And how were you doing?"
"I was suffering, a lot. But I thought things were going well until-"
"I refused your proposal?"
"Yes, exactly." She nods, understanding.
We stay silent for another moment and I attempt to break it, but I am startled when I see her stand up and grab her coat.
She stops and looks over her shoulder, uncertain.
"Felix, please answer something for me."
"Anything."
"If Ladybug and I weren't the same person...would you have ever noticed Bridgette?"
"Bridgette, I fell in love the first moment I saw you. But it was as Ladybug. Imagine my surprise when I was hit with the same amount of emotion twice, I couldn't understand. So I decided to lean for the more convenient option."
"Ladybug."
"Because she would free me from my curse."
"That still doesn't answer my question." She looks hesitant, and if you squint even afraid. "Or was that your answer?"
"No, no. What I'm trying to say is. I noticed you, Bridgette. You were never invisible or hard to look at. I was only inclined towards your alter ego because there was some weight behind it."
"And regardless of said weight, if given the choice, would you have chosen me?"
I want to lie and make her happy.
But she deserves more than that.
"No. Because I am dumb and blind."
She nods, looking ahead once again. Her shaky hand takes the coat off the hanger.
"I'll be back. You can do the dishes in the meantime."
The last plate is placed on the rack when I hear the door open. I walk to the entrance to meet her and I am met with a small box thrown at me.
A miraculous box.
"What is-?"
"That kwami will help you go back to your reality." She hides her hands in her coat pockets and she's avoiding my gaze. "Feel free to go and meet me in your reality. Enjoy the divorce. Be a piece of shit if you want."
"O-Okay."
"Or you can choose me." She looks me in the eye. And all I see is the strong woman I married, my heart swells and I have never loved her as much as I do right now. "Take that kwami and chose me."
"Chose you? Do you mean 'stay'? Are you telling me to stay?"
"No, I'm telling you to choose me."
And I understand.
"I will." I open the box, and I'm met with my miracle.
Hi! I am SO SORRY. My life has been crazy, and I completely abandoned this project.
I think there will be maybe two more chapters of this. Or perhaps another one and an epilogue, we'll see.
If you don't hate me for taking forever to update, please feel free to make comments or critiques or anything :) I love to hear from yous.
And finally, I hope you liked the chapter!
Love,
Lia
