I'm going to be completely honest, This will more than likely be a one-shot depending on how ill or well received this 1st chapter gets. I'm not a hater of Asami x Korra, I just seem to still think to this day, even after the show ending a while ago, that Mako and Korra were a better match in my opinion. Please enjoy the chapter.

He couldn't sleep.

Mako kept tossing and turning in his bed the entire night. No matter how many times he turn his body, flipped his pillow, or even slept on the opposite side of the bed, he still couldn't sleep. His day was tiring enough that it should have warranted an instant knockout once his head hit that pillow.

A 2-hour gym session with his brother, followed by scavenging to find another job to haul in some cash, he was burnt out. To top it all off, he had another fight in the pro bending arena, which they won of course if it wasn't for Bolin saving his ass twice in the ring.

After all that, after a long-needed dinner and shower, he still couldn't sleep. He's been tossing and turning for hours now and out frustration, threw his pillow into the air, and it ended up falling out of their loft and into the dark streets below.

He growled in frustration as he got up and walked to his balcony. The cool night air welcomed him as he leaned against it the wooden railing, staring into the ocean that was out in front of him. Even though rent was a bitch to maintain, the view of the city and the ocean more than made up for it. But, even the view couldn't make his sour mood go away.

Why was he in a bad mood you may ask? Why wasn't he able to go to sleep? Well, that's a simple answer.

It was all because of her.

Her.

He sighed as he scratched the side of his head. Why wasn't he able to stop thinking about her? It was infuriating!

He scoffed as he recalled the 1st time he saw her. He didn't like her from the start. Waltzing in like she owned the place, courtesy of his baby brother (Bless his soul), grinning ear to ear as she and Bolin got to talking. Loud, arrogant, and so full of herself made him want to gag.

He brushed off her introduction as he stepped onto the ring. Thinking she was another girl Bolin was just trying to court or even impress her (Again, bless his soul), he would sort him out later. Right now, he had to focus on the fight at hand.

And yet, she had him the second he saw her.

The two times he got hit and almost got knocked out, was because he was distracted by her. The 1st time, she was cheering them on so loud he was able to hear her from the entire crowd. He turned to yell at her to shut up and was met with an earth disk to the face. His brother returned the favor by sending a pair of earth disks to the opponents Head and man jewels.

The second time, he caught her eyes as she was cheering. A pair of beautiful baby blue eyes that had so much life and joy behind them. He didn't know why he was so enchanted by them. Before he could have Caught himself, the waterbender adversary sent him a wave of water that damn near almost sent him off the ring if it wasn't for his brother saving him once more.

He was so embarrassed with himself that he didn't even acknowledged her once they came back to their locker room. He grabbed his stuff and went back to his room to change, hoping to forget this evening.

But here he was, standing on the balcony of his loft in the middle of the night, thinking about her. What was it about her that to him was so….intoxicating? Like she was a bottle of the finest wine, and he wasn't able to buy it, but the mere thought of buying that bottle made him crave it.

He hated this feeling. The feeling of wanting to see someone again. The feeling of…. A need perhaps?

He laid his head on his arms and let out a deep sigh. Here he was thinking about a girl that he wasn't probably going to see again. But his heart and mind were both connected, and both wanted to see that girl again.

He wasn't going to deny she wasn't beautiful. On the contrary, she was drop dead gorgeous. Her chocolate covered skin complimented her eyes. Her personality was a complete opposite of his. She was outspoken, loud, and friendly as ever, While he was stern, calculative, and more reserved to himself and his brother.

He growled as he grabbed the ledge with both of his hands and heated them up. Why was she so friendly? Even after ignoring her she still wished him a good night, even though it was more sarcastic then genuine.

He knew why he didn't like her. He knew why he was so angry with her. He knew it wasn't fair to be angry at a girl you just met and yet he was doing just that.

It was because all of the emotions she had, reminded him of the emotions he used to have. Before his parents died. Before that damn curse took them away!

He yelped as he lost control of his firebending and almost burned himself in the process from accidentally burning the wood of the balcony.

Groaning, he quickly ran into the loft and quickly came back with a bucket of water, which he promptly killed the small flames with. Setting the bucket down, he took his spot back on the balcony again, ignoring the smell of charred wood. He'll figure it out later, he was the brains of the trio after all.

Going back to her, his anger came back again. He knew she didn't kill his parents and yet everything she did reminded him of his parents. His father, stubborn but caring and his mother, Loving but stern. He would kill to have them by his side once more.

Yet, fate had other plans. All it took was going into a back alley surrounded by firebenders and his parents protecting them. But the firebenders still killed them, even after taking all of their money.

It's ironic though. How can the one thing that killed your parents happen to be the one element you inherited? How can the one thing that destroyed your life happen to be the opportunity to make your life better than it once was?

He whipped away his tears and came to a conclusion.

Irony is a bitch.

He opened his palm and breathed slowly out, letting a flame be created on his hand. As he stared into this flame, he saw her face again…..Her beautiful face.

He crushed his hand and sighed. This girl was all he could think about and yet he didn't even know these feelings or how to explore them. For all he knows she probably skipped town, never to be seen again.

Yet her smile made his heart skip a beat.

He shook his head at he gave the ocean view one more look before turning around and headed back inside. Crawling back to bed, he stared into the ceiling.

What was her name again? Racking his brain, he turned his head to his side and sighed blissfully.

"Korra…." Like magic, he fell asleep. Her smile still on his mind.

She couldn't Sleep.

Tenzin and his family were more than accommodating when it came to her room. A nice queen sized bed with a window that had a view of the city. The room itself was quite spacious with a desk, cabinets for her clothes even though she didn't really need much. All in all, it was a nice room. Nala was on a short walk away in the barn so she was able to go see her if she wished.

Even with how comfortable the bed was, (It was heaven), even with how warm the place was compared to her old room in the south pole, she couldn't sleep.

Groaning, she got up from her bed, extending her arms up for a stretch until she heard the satisfying pop coming from her arms and back. Lowering her arms, she threw herself off the bed and walked over to the window.

Opening it, the ocean wind greeted her as she breathed in deeply. She could smell the cherry blossom trees that grew on the island, the saltiness of the open sea in front of her. Breathing out, she opened her eyes and laid before her was the pro bending arena.

To her, this was the shrine of republic city. Everyone from benders, non-benders, the rich, the poor all seem to be drawn to this place like moths to a flame. This place was a beacon of prosperity and peace between everyone. Except for those in the ring of course.

She snuck in because she didn't have a ticket and ended up bumping into Bolin, who showed her around and ended up showing her in the fire ferrets locker room. When they went out to fight, she had literal front row seat to the action of the fight.

Yet, she wasn't all focused on the fight. She was focused on him.

When she walked in, he caught her eye pretty quickly. He didn't speak much but damn he was handsome for a quiet guy. Him being tall was a major plus as well and his body looked great in uniform.

He was the reason she wasn't getting sleep.

She pouted slightly as she stared at the arena. This feeling she had was strange to her. Slightly foreign even. She was stuck under the protection of the white lotus for so long that everything right now was new to her. Even these emotions.

She couldn't describe it but while she would think of him, her cheeks heated up slightly and she felt a heat between her thighs that was new to her. She bit her lip as she rubbed her thighs together to see if that heat would go away but it seemed to only make it worst, and to add on the fact that the entire time he was on her mind the entire time, her mind and body was on overdrive.

Suppressing a moan, she quickly and quietly ran into the kitchen to grab some water. Putting the glass under the sink, she poured until the water was at the very top and before she could even drink, she saw his face in the glass winking at her.

Yelping, she dropped the glass into the sink, breaking it. Cursing at herself, she grabbed a towel to pick up the glass shards and threw them in the trash. Making sure no one woke up, she went back to the window in her room, staring at the arena again.

She wanted to see him again. Maybe this time she will buy a ticket and actually go see a fight with him in it. Korra had to admit, he was a great fighter.

The way he was so confident in himself and his bending. Him bobbing and weaving the onslaught of attacks coming from the other team. The way he would flip around and bend his fire like it was an extension of himself. His style was so mesmerizing that she couldn't help but stare at him as he fought.

She was there for a fight and she got more than what she bargained for. It's weird though. How can one man while off the ring be so quiet and slightly rude yet on the ring be the most confident and agile person in the world? It doesn't add up.

But there was something else that drew her to him. His eyes. They were so unique in a way that she couldn't put her finger on it. Everyone she met had either blue eyes like her, brown or green. He was the 1st person she met that had red eyes and behind them, she saw stress. She saw hurt and she saw pain.

She never knew pain. Sure, she got hurt through training and was healed quickly by kitara but the pain she saw in him was something she never experienced before.

Loss.

She couldn't help but pity the poor boy. How can one man hold so much and still keep on kicking? What was the reason behind his attitude? Perhaps it was something he had to do for growing up?

No matter. She will get her answers tomorrow. Damn anyone who tries to not make her go to that arena again. She had to see the arena again. See him again.

Grinning ear to ear, she threw herself gracefully into her bed and wrapped herself with her blanket.

What was his name again? She remembered Bolin Told her.

"Mako." She muttered as sleep finally took over.

Who knew one day, one night has two people already begging the universe to have them cross paths once more.
