I do not own Legend of Korra.

This one shot is based on an episode of Bones, 'The Cinderella in the Cardboard'.

Bolin's voice actor Paul Fillon in it, played the ex-fiancé of the murder victim. He wanted his grandmother's ring back, but she sold it to pay for her second wedding, upsetting him and making him look like a suspect.

Enjoy!

"Opal, please listen to me!"

"Oh, no! No, no, no, no, I'm not trying to win you back! No way in Hell I'm gonna go through that train wreck we called a relationship for a fourth round! I just want my ring back! That's it! Just the ring!"

"You know, the gold ring with flame engravings I proposed to you with? The ring you never gave back after you ran off with that Yao guy? The ring I told you belonged to my dead mother? The ring I told you has been passed down through her family for generations?"

"You did what?!"

"How could you?!"

"It's not just an accessory! How would you feel if I sold your fancy silver earrings that your mother bended for you?"

"No, I didn't do that because I gave back everything you own or have given me after our breakup because that is the most responsible thing to do! I gave you my most valuable possession and you tossed it away!"

"Well, I wish you and Yao a happy life then, that is until you decide to screw him over like you did to me!"

Bolin slammed the phone down. He tried to calm himself down by taking deep breaths, like how Korra taught him, but he ended up screaming in rage.

"Damn it!"

"Bo?"

Mako entered the room, quickly rushing to his brother's side, the latter on the verge of crying.

"Bo, what's wrong?"

"Opal sold mom's ring!" Bolin blurted out.

"You gave her mom's ring?"

"I thought she was the one! I told her how important it was, and she still sold it! THAT BITCH!"

Bolin, full of so much rage, roared and smacked his fist on the table, snapping it in half. Mako stared at his brother, his normal sweet little brother who now was angrier then Korra.

Then Bolin dropped to his knees, his rage washing away and replaced with sadness.

"I thought her leaving me for some other guy was the worst thing she ever done to me. But no. Selling mom's ring to pay for her new wedding is way worst."

Mako knelt beside him and wrapped his arms around his little brother, letting him cry like a baby against his shoulder.

"Bolin?"

Bolin looked up from his hands, having been sitting on his couch, sagging in despair.

Asami stepped inside, using the key he gave Mako.

"How are you doing?" She asked.

He threw his head back, groaning. "Like I wanna join the Fire Nation army and take over the Earth Kingdom to get back at my ex."

"Mako told me and Korra about the ring. I'm so sorry."

"First, she cheated on me when we were engaged, then she left me for her side piece a week before our wedding, and now she sold my mother's ring to pay for her second wedding!" Bolin angrily ranted.

Like Mako, Asami was not used to seeing Bolin so angry or upset. He was the friendliest, happiest, sweetest person she knew. He was so depressed, he hadn't left his apartment for a week except for work and there he was in a bad mood.

Asami fisted her hand, imagining Opal's neck in her grasp.

Bolin then sighed, calming down from his anger yet still so sad.

"It's not just a ring. It's the only thing I have last of my mom. After mom and dad died…Mako and I could only take one thing with us. Mako got dad's scarf and I got mom's ring. For years, I kept it safe. Mako and I agreed that no matter how horrible our situation is, how desperate we are to get money, we would never sell off the only things we have to remember our parents by. And Opal treated it like another piece of metal her family can bend. Like it was worthless. It's not worthless. Not to me. I should've given it to Mako when he proposed to Korra instead of a betrothal necklace. At least Korra understands its true value."

Listening to him, Asami touched the gold bracelet on her right wrist.

Her mother's gold bracelet.

"Not everyone understood sentimental value." She said softly, sitting down next to him and laying a hand on his board shoulder.

He glanced to her. "Mom was the perfect woman. She was amazing. Mako looked up to dad, and I looked up to mom. When she died, I wanted a woman like her back in my life. A woman who is beautiful inside and out. The main reason why I had so many girlfriends. And look where that got me."

"There's nothing wrong with that. You were only looking for your true love. Who knows maybe the next girl you date is the one? Besides, I got you something to cheer you up."

Bolin turned away from her. "No offence, Asami, but nothing will help."

"Oh, I think my gift will."

Asami's teasing voice trailed off as he sensed she was holding out something in his way. He glanced to what she was presenting.

A ring was in between her index finger and thumb.

A gold ring with flame engravings.

Bolin dropped his jaw and blinked. He blinked again. And again. Then he rubbed his eyes, and then blinked and rubbed his eyes again.

He just couldn't believe what he was seeing.

He gingerly took the ring into his own hands, still stunned and expecting it to be just a dream. But the ring was real. It was real and here in his hands again.

"How..did…you…"

"When Mako told me what happened, I 'convinced' Opal to tell me where she sold your mother's ring."

"C-Convinced her? How? She still lives with her whole family! Her brothers took her side in the breakup! They're Metalbenders! And Toph's grandsons!"

Asami chuckled. "Let's just say I handled her brothers by myself and Toph herself was impressed. Anyway, I went to the jeweller Opal had sold your mother's ring to and eventually found it at an auction. It took me 2 minutes to outbid every single person there."

Bolin stared at her in shock and amazement.

What she did was the equivalent of saving the world. She restored peace and order in his life by bringing back his most sacred object.

She saved his world.

"You shouldn't have."

"I wanted to. I know how important it is to you."

"You did this all for me?"

"Yes, and I would do it again."

Bolin felt his heart stop as he stared into her green eyes, gleaming with honesty and sincerity.

"I…I can't thank you enough."

"I'm sure you can make it up to me."

"How about we start with dinner first?"

Asami smiled at him.

Two years later, Bolin proposed to Asami with his mother's ring.

She never took it off.
