Izuku thought his life was going fairly well lately. He had inherited a quirk from his hero All Might, had made new friends, and best of all began to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero! But his dream needed hard work to be accomplished and he was determined to put in the effort.
One of the first steps to becoming a Pro Hero was to participate in work studies. Izuku, Kacchan, and Todoroki were all doing their internships with the current top hero, Endeavor. While Izuku thought that man was intimidating, it was nothing compared to when he met him at the Sport's Festival. But after a rather rocky start, the three UA students were beginning to get a hang of their work studies.
As part of their internships at Endeavor's Agency, the three were required to go on patrols, which is how Izuku found himself going through the streets of Japan. While Izuku was not always itching for a fight, unlike Kacchan, he was a little bored. Nothing interesting had happened while the three walked unless a distressed child crying about spilled ice cream counted.
"This is fucking stupid," Katsuki Bakugou announced, grumbling as he stomped ahead of his two peers. "Not a single fucking villain and we still have an hour left of patrol."
"Bakugou, we don't need to fight a villain every time we step out of UA," Todoroki said beside Izuku.
The greenette nodded his agreement. Class 1-A has already had their fair share of villain attacks through their first year and Izuku was enjoying the peace while he could. Though he did agree with his explosive friend that the patrol was dull.
The One for All user was gazing around the street they were on. Nothing except for civilians going about their daily lives and the occasional hero that would pass by. (Izuku thought it was extremely unfair that Kacchan wouldn't let him ask for an autograph.) He was beginning to think that they wouldn't find anything interesting before he spotted a couple of other people, both he instantly recognized.
"Uravity! Froppy!" Izuku called out, smiling upon seeing his two classmates.
Uraraka or Uravity quickly waved back with the same enthusiasm her best friend showed. "Hey, Deku!"
She and Froppy, both in their hero costumes, bounced up to greet their fellow heroes-in-training. Uraraka was grinning as she came face to face with one of her close friends.
"So crazy we both ran into each other, huh?"
Izuku nodded, slightly blushing as he noticed how close the brunette had gotten.
"Yeah, are you guys on patrol for Ryukyu's agency?"
"Yup! Ryukyu and Hado thought that we could handle ourselves on patrol since there hasn't been a lot of action here lately." Uraraka explained.
Izuku could hear Kacchan growl 'damn straight' from a couple of meters ahead but decided to ignore it.
"We haven't seen anything yet,' Tsu chimed in, finger on her chin, "Uraraka is hoping for anything to happen so she gets a chance to try out her new gear."
Said gravity-defying girl sheepishly nodded, rubbing the back of her neck.
Izuku then noticed that his friend's costume had changed quite a bit. The bulky wristbands she had were no longer there and were replaced with much smaller bracelets. The teen also stared in wonder as her puffy boots now had what looked to be propulsion jets on the back, matching the smaller ones on the back of her suit. Izuku felt his face heat up as he realized Uraraka still looked amazing in her suit as much as she did during their first hero training class.
He quickly pushed those thoughts away and tried to focus on all the costume changes no doubt added to help the brown-haired girl's ability to maneuver while she's floating. How fast could those jets on her suits propel her forward? Was there a limit to how far they could propel her? What about-
Izuku's thoughts were interrupted by Todoroki tapping him on the shoulder.
"You were muttering again," the duel quirk user announced, a small smile adorning his face.
Izuku stammered out an apology, to which his classmates assured him he was fine. In fact, Uraraka said it was nice that her friend was interested in her new costume changes.
The five of them began patrolling the city together seeing as nothing major was going to happen. Izuku had just finished calming down a heated debate between Uraraka and Kacchan on who could perform a better aerial attack. Honestly, he thought that both were rather adept at them considering they had quirks well suited for that kind of thing.
As they strolled, Izuku ended up walking next to Uraraka who was now discussing how her new hero suit was inspired by Hado and her quirk. Izuku thought the idea was genius. Both girls had slightly similar quirks and he was glad that the brunette was implementing all these new ideas. She was becoming a better hero by the day and Izuku was glad he got to progress right alongside her. He thought himself blessed to be able to call someone like Uraraka his friend.
'And crush'
Izuku banished that thought immediately. Despite his own feelings, he had no intentions of making her life harder, doubting that the brunette would feel anything of the sort for him. Izuku wouldn't let that stop him from supporting her in any way he could. All of the friends he had made at UA were so incredible, he would be crazy to not help support their dream as they did his.
Soon enough, a companionable silence filled the small group as they continued to be on the lookout for any trouble.
The lovely quiet was soon dispersed as angry Bakugou set off small explosions in his palm, a tell-tale sign he was irritated, well more than usual.
"This is ridiculous," he hissed through clenched teeth. "We've been out here for almost two hours and still nothing."
Uraraka grumbled beside Izuku. "Maybe you shouldn't be so eager to pick a fight."
Before anyone could blink, the spiky blonde turned his anger towards the space-themed heroine.
"I didn't ask you, Round Face! Go back to your own route instead of bothering me and these two nerds!"
Uraraka looked like she was going to retort before Bakugou stormed off, claiming he would go find some villains to fight on his own. Izuku was about to follow after him before Todoroki shook his head.
"I'll go make sure he doesn't blow everything up," he said.
"Same here," Tsu chimed in, trailing behind Todoroki as the two made their way to the aggressive teen.
As he watched his classmates go around a street corner, Izuku noticed that he was now left alone with Uraraka. He felt himself grow nervous. While he didn't dislike his best friend, Izuku still felt uneasy with all the new feelings that were bottled up. He especially didn't want to accidentally say the wrong thing to the brunette.
"Should we go after them?" Uraraka questioned with a small tilt to her head.
Izuku shook his head. "Probably not. I'm afraid Kacchan will only get more upset if I say anything to him."
He did not expect the snort to come from his friend's nose.
"Bakugou seems to get angry at the drop of a hat."
Well, Izuku couldn't deny that. His rival and best friend was always passionate about everything he did and said. That was just how Kacchan was, had been since he met him.
"Yeah," Izuku agreed, "But he's still going to be an amazing hero."
Uraraka voiced her reluctant agreement before the two began to walk, continuing their patrol. Izuku was unsure whether or not he was technically allowed to be scouting the area with another agency member, but decided it was a good way to foster teamwork. Endeavor wouldn't get upset about that, right?
"So, how did you and Bakugou meet?" Uraraka asked. "You two don't seem like you would be friends right off the bat."
"That's easy! We met in..."
Suddenly it was difficult to remember exactly when he met Katsuki Bakugou. They had to have been young, some of his earliest memories included the blonde, even if they were a little hazy. Come to think of it, that was how a lot of his memories were.
Izuku noticed that Uraraka was staring expectantly at him and quickly tried to find an answer.
"Our moms were friends and we met at a playground. We both tried to use the new All Might-themed slide they had just put in," he explained, feeling slightly more sure of himself.
"I guess that makes sense," Uraraka laughed. "You two seem like you would fight over an All Might slide."
The Zero Gravity user smiled at Izuku again and he was starkly reminded by how easy it was to be around her. Some days, when they would talk and joke, it felt like Izuku had known the girl for most of his life. Not to say Izuku didn't get extremely nervous around her, seeing as she was the first girl he had actually talked to. But he found himself always enjoying her company.
"Thank you," Izuku spoke softly.
"For what, Deku?"
The greenette didn't realize he had even spoken but he couldn't back out now.
"For being my friend. You've always been there for me and I know you're going to make an amazing hero." Izuku spoke with earnest, gazing into honey brown eyes that never failed to cheer him up. "You're always pushing yourself to be better and you always give it your all. If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have gotten into UA."
Uraraka's face began to turn red and Izuku panicked thinking he said the wrong thing and now his friend was upset with him.
But then a pair of arms wrapped around his torso and those thoughts were put to rest.
"You big dummy," Uraraka lightly chided as she hugged him. "You don't need to thank me for being your friend. Besides, you helped me get into UA too, remember? You're just as amazing as I am Deku."
The two then hugged and Izuku thought his heart was going to explode out of his chest. So many nights wondering how lucky he had gotten to be blessed with so many new friends and peers and to especially have one as amazing as Uraraka, who proved to him time and time again how determined she was to be a hero for her family.
The tender moment ended swiftly as a loud bang sounded off from a nearby alleyway.
It didn't take long for Deku and Uravity to give each other a quick nod before they booked it towards the sound. Izuku charged up One for All, feeling the familiar energy engulf his body as Uraraka swiftly made herself weightless and power up her new jets.
Izuku's mind began to race at what could have made the sound. Was it a robber? If so, then there was a high chance he might have a weapon and someone was taken hostage or held up at gunpoint.
He hoped that was not the case.
Izuku and Uraraka made it to the alley, on high alert and coms ready to contact their classmates and mentors. Green and brown eyes surveyed the area, ready for a fight if need be.
But when they stepped into the alley, it was empty besides a piece of paper laying in dirty water between large cracks of concrete.
Izuku went to pick the paper up. "This doesn't make sense. What made the bang?"
"I did."
Not recognizing the voice, Izuku spun around to find a rather broad man with bright blue hair and white eyes that conveyed that he was not to be trifled with. The stranger held an unconscious Uraraka that lay limp in his tan arms.
Izuku immediately cursed himself for not being more careful and not being faster to help his friend get hurt. On instinct he activated One for All in Full Cowling, preparing to fight to save his friend and any civilians that might have been lurking around.
"Let. Her. Go," Izuku growled out, arcs of green lightning flashing around him.
The blue-haired man in front of him merely shook his head.
"Sorry buddy, but I'm under direct orders from the boss. Besides, I have no plans on injuring either of you. Your little girlfriend here passed out due to mental exhaustion, similar to how you're going to be in a second."
Izuku raced to kick the man in the chest as his adversary released a shot of thick pink smoke towards him. Izuku tried to pull his mask on to protect himself from whatever substance was in the gas but wasn't fast enough.
Suddenly Izuku was on the floor.
Images began to flash in his mind.
Bright smiles from people he had never met but somehow knew personally.
Voices that he couldn't recognize yet knew all the same.
Flicks of fire and smoke rolled off of his skin.
Feelings of warmth, rage, comfort, and anything in between tore at his heart.
More and more images and flashes came until Izuku thought he was going to pass out.
But right before Izuku succumbed to sleep, one voice in the swarm of endless thoughts stood out.
"We'll see each other again soon, Izuku."
Izuku finally passed out.
Katsuki knew he was going to have a shitty day.
There were no villains or civilians that needed their sorry asses rescued. No action. No excitement. It was completely boring, even when he decided to ditch his classmates. Though ditching was hard to do when two trailed after him.
Luckily for Katsuki, his boredom would soon be vanquished as the booming voice of Endeavor rang out through his coms.
'Deku and Uravity have been taken out of commission. I repeat: Deku and Uravity have been taken out of commission. Find them as soon as possible.'
Katsuki grinned, a feral thing that would probably scare younger children, not that he cared about that. It sounded to him like there was a villain on the loose and Katsuki would be damned before he let it get away.
IcyHot and Frog-Girl must have gotten the same message as all three of them sprinted to the last place they saw Deku and Round Face. Katuski snorted to himself. Those two were probably too busy making goo-goo eyes to notice that a villain was right by them.
Combing through the streets of the city, he was the one to find them first.
Katsuki was extremely disappointed that the villain was no longer there and instead left his two classmates in a damp alleyway that wreaked of garbage and cigarette smoke.
His disappointment was curbed by the embarrassing position Deku and Round Face ended up in.
Whoever the villain was made them pass out and whether he had moved the two so they ended up in that position or they both simply passed out like that, Katsuki thought it was hilarious. Especially when Deku would find out Round Face was snuggling on his chest.
