Volume 4 Chapter 4: Shocking Developments
After dropping off Rock at the dorm, Yang made her way over to the teachers dorm building and once she got to the room her father was staying at she knocked at the door. After a few seconds the door opened, and she saw her father standing in the doorway with a look of surprise on his face.
"Yang, what are you doing here so late?" Asked Tai, he then noticed Yang's roughed up state and asked "And what happened to you?"
"Me and Rock had a bit of a fight, but that doesn't matter. Can I come in? I need to ask you something." Said Yang.
"Sure, come in." Said Tai, as he let Yang into the room and after closing the door he asked "What do you want to know?"
"I want to know about mom." Replied Yang.
Tai sighed and replied "I knew this conversation would happen someday, just didn't expect it to happen so soon."
"When did you expect it to happen?" Asked Yang.
"At a later point in time, when you're older... when you finished your education at Beacon." Replied Tai, as he sat down on the couch and added. "But if you really want to know, I'll tell you.
"You sure it won't drag up too many painful memories?" Asked Yang.
"They weren't all painful, some... some were happy memories. We had some good times, together and as a team." Replied Tai.
"So what was she like?" Asked Yang.
Tai signalled for Yang to go and sit on lounge chair in the room, Yang obliged and sat down on the lounge chair. Tai then said "Raven... Raven was complicated. Actually, both she and Qrow were complicated when we met them. They were raised in a tribe in Mistral and they, Raven especially, came in with the mindset that the strong survive and the weak die. And...lets just say that it caused some tension within our team, especially in our first two years. Their mentality and my thick-headedness led to a lot of fights between the three of us. Luckily Summer was always there to set us straight, whether we wanted her to do so or not."
"What changed? Cause I don't see either of you ending up with one another if you two kept butting heads like that." Said Yang.
"We all started growing as people, as we got older and further in our education we became closer as a team. We started to become like family, we still fought but we made sure to always help each other whenever we needed to and it led to our cooperation improving massively. Uhm... actually it led to both Qrow and Raven losing the mentality of the weak dying and the strong surviving. I think that we all changed, that we all managed to change for the better and ultimately your mother and I fell for each other. It was near the end of our fourth year, but we cared for each other. We both felt that we made each other whole." Replied Tai.
"Do you know why she left, was she not happy to become a mom?" Asked Yang.
"Well that's the strangest part... I honestly don't know why she left. She was ecstatic to become a mom, she was happy when she found out she had gotten pregnant with you. She vowed she would become a better parent than her own parents, and would do anything to protect and care for you. And then a couple of months after you were born, she left. No reason given, she just left. One day she was the happiest person on Remnant, and the next day she was gone. And my world shattered around me, did what we had not mean anything to her. Was everything between us a lie, or was there something else? And honestly I have no idea of what the answer is to that question." Said Tai.
"So why didn't you go look for her? Or better yet why don't you come with me to go and look for her. That way we can both get answers." Said Yang.
"Sorry Yang, but that ship has sailed a long time ago. But if you want to ever go look for her, I won't stop you. If you want answers, you're in your right to go and find them." Said Tai.
Upon hearing that Yang stood up from her chair with tears streaming down her face and she exclaimed "So that's it then! You've just given up! You don't care enough to go and look for Raven because she left you! Don't you want answers? Don't you want to know why the person you loved at one point in your life left you like that!"
Yang wanted to continue yelling at Tai, but to her surprise Tai stood up from his seat, hugged her and began to comfort her while saying. "Off course I still care about her, but I've learned to let go of her. During my therapy I learned that it isn't healthy to keep holding onto bad memories or trauma. So I gave it a place and I won't let it hold me down ever again. Look Yang, you saw what became of me with both Summer and Raven gone. I was a mess, and I let it affect me in a negative way. I now see that I should have never let get this far. And endlessly wondering about why Raven left won't do me any good."
"But... but what about finding answers?" Asked Yang.
"I'm sure that I'll find them eventually, but for me it's not that important to know about right away." Said Tai, as he let go of Yang and looked her in the eyes and added "As for no longer caring about Raven. That's not entirely true, sure the love that I once felt for her is gone but I still care about her as a teammate. Say that she were to drop in through a portal injured, at the brink of death and asking for help I'd help her in a heartbeat. Cause that is what teammates do, they stick up for one another no matter what. Like how the four of you helped Rock earlier today."
"So if she came to you out of the blue one day, and asked you for help you'd do it?" Asked Yang.
"Yes, also I'm sure that if I didn't Summer would start haunting both me and Qrow from beyond the grave." Joked Tai, prompting Yang to punch him in the shoulder in a joking manner.
"Is that all you wanted to know about?" Asked Tai.
"Yeah, I'm beginning to understand. Thanks dad, I'm going back to the dorm. It's late and we have a special lecture tomorrow and Weiss would kill us if we were to miss it." Replied Yang, who was about to leave when a thunder and heavy rainfall was heard outside. "I guess that's the rainstorm she told us about."
"You sure you want to go back in all that heavy weather?" Asked Tai.
"Our dorm is not that far from here, I'm sure it's going to be fine. Goodnight dad." Replied Yang, who then left the room leaving Tai alone.
Tai then fished an old photo out of his pockets, which was an old photo of Team STRQ together. And as he was looking at the photo a look of nostalgia and sadness appeared on his face.
Meanwhile with Yang
Yang had made her way back to the dorms, while managing to avoid most of the rain and when she entered her own dorm room she saw that her teammates were still awake and were all reading. Ruby then noticed Yang's beat up state and said "Yang! What did you and Rock do to each other!"
"We had a small fight, I thought Rock told you guys that." Replied Yang.
"He did! But he didn't say that it was that bad. He didn't tell us you had been hit by a train!" Exclaimed Ruby.
"He does hit like a train." Sid Yang, as she laughed a bit before grabbing her sides and said "It hurts to laugh."
Ruby sighed and replied in an annoyed tone "I'll go get Jaune." After which she left the room and went across the hall and knocked on the door of Team JNPR dorm room. She was then met with Jaune wearing a bathrobe, had a face mask on and had clips in his hair that were giving him curls. Ruby tried to hold in her laughter as she asked "What... what is that?"
Jaune, knowing what Ruby was talking about, replied "These are a face mask and hair clips for in my hair."
Ruby then looked into the room, and saw that the rest of the team of JNPR wearing the same. "You want to... want to tell me what you're doing?" Asked Ruby.
"A bit of a teambuilding exercise, something we do once a week. The hair was something Pyrrha came up with, while the face mud masks were something that Ren and Nora have been doing for years. As for the hair clips, Pyrrha says it adds extra curls and volume to my hair." Replied Jaune.
"Well, we all know that you need it." Joked Ruby, as she then couldn't hold in her laughter anymore and began to laugh like a madwoman.
"Ruby if you don't stop laughing we'll just get Jaune to close the door and not help you with whatever it is you need." Pyrrha was heard saying from the room.
This caused Ruby to stop laughing she then said "Sorry, I need you to boost Yang's aura a bit. She and Rock fought and her ribs hurt."
"Don't worry, I'll help." Said Jaune, who was then led to the other dorm room by Ruby and was then brought into the other dorm room. Where the other members of Team _RWBY looked at him with funny looks on their faces.
"Wow Jaune, you look great." Said Yang, as she let out an audible snort.
"I hope that your ribs heal by themselves." Replied Jaune, as he got ready to leave the room.
"Wait, wait!" Yelled Ruby, as she grabbed his arm to stop him from leaving. "Yang don't be mean."
"Sorry, can you please boost my aura so my ribs won't hurt as much?" Asked Yang.
"Sure." Said Jaune, as he hovered his hands over Yang's shoulders. After which his hands began to glow, to which Yang's aura started to respond and slowly the bruises started to disappear.
"You're certainly getting a lot better at using your semblance." Said Ruby.
"Yeah thanks, Qrow has been teaching me a lot about mastering my semblance." Replied Jaune, after which he stopped using his semblance.
"Wait, that's it? It only took a couple of seconds." Said Yang, with a surprised tone in her voice.
"Yeah Qrow's been teaching me to use my semblance much more efficiently and a lot faster. Anyways, goodnight get some rest and try not have too many fights." Replied Jaune, who then left the room and after he left the room he heard Team RRWBY burst out in laughter. He ignored it as he rolled his eyes, and returned to his own room.
The next morning
The following day all first year students found themselves at the Beacon recreational pool, with everyone wearing their swimwear but with it being covered up by wetsuits. As the instructions for the lecture specifically required the students to wear a wetsuit. While the teachers hadn't arrived yet the students were talking amongst themselves. "So you feeling alright Rock?" Asked Ruby, who noticed that her teammate was looking a bit uncomfortable with the wetsuit on.
"I'm fine, it's just that the wetsuit doesn't feel particularly comfortable. I mean why even make me wear these, I get it for you it keeps body heat in but I'm a robot. I can regulate my body heat just fine." Replied Rock.
"Maybe they wanted to make sure no one would get cold." Said Blake.
"Could be, say Blake I was wondering..." Yang said, only to be interrupted by Blake.
"...Yes my ears are extra sensitive! Yes they can get affected by outside temperatures!" Replied Blake with an annoyed and snippy tone in her voice.
"Jeez sorry, I just wanted to know if it gets annoying to get water in two extra set of ears." Said Yang.
"Oh." Replied Blake as she got slightly flustered, which caused her bow to move around a bit in shame "Sorry about that, I thought you were going to make a joke about my ears and I'm honestly not in the mood for that today. But to answer your question, it does get slightly annoying."
"It's fine, besides I wasn't going to make a joke this early in the morning. Otherwise I would have gotten an earful from someone." Joked Yang, to which almost everyone at the pool groaned in annoyance.
"Honestly Yang, can't you come up with better jokes." Complained Neptune.
"Depends, how is your fear of the water Neptune?" Asked Yang.
"I'll be quiet." Muttered Neptune.
"Wait, he is actually afraid of water? That wasn't a joke being passed around the halls of Beacon?" Asked Weiss.
"Yeah, it's true." Replied Neptune.
"So why is that?" Asked Jaune, who had heard the conversation and joined in.
Yang saw that Jaune's hair was filled with more volume and was looking less flat than usual, so she said "Wow, Jaune your hair is looking less flat than usual. I guess Weiss is the only flat one here now."
"Excuse me!" Exclaimed Weiss.
"Hey it's not so bad, Weiss has got really nice legs." Said Nora.
"Nora, you can't just say stuff like that!" Shrieked Weiss.
"What? Yang does it all the time, besides you can ask the boys and they'll agree with me." Said Nora.
The girls of Team RRWBY and Team JNPR all gave a looks to Ren, Jaune, Sun, Neptune, Sage and Rock who all responded in unison "For our own safety we choose not to comment on that."
"Smart." Said Weiss.
"So Neptune, you want to tell us what happened to make you afraid of water?" Asked Jaune, trying to steer the conversation away from the previous topic.
"Alright, I'll tell you. Here is the thing, I come from Argus and most of my family are swimmers. I unlocked my semblance at an early age, and it allowed me to move the water around me. But it made it difficult for me to be around water without causing it to be pushed away from me, especially since I had a hard time controlling my semblance. Regardless, my older brother Jupiter decided to one day teach me how to swim by throwing me off a pier in Argus."
"Unfortunately while trying to get out of the water I created a water bubble that I got trapped in. I couldn't see, and I was starting to lose air so in a panicked state I used my semblance to push the water away from me. Only for the bubble to be send to my older brother, and for a few seconds I thought I had trapped him in a water bubble with no way of getting out. Thankfully, his semblance allowed my older brother to vaporise the water bubble and escape."
"But because I thought that I had killed him I became scared of water, and have tried to avoid at as much as possible." Said Neptune, who then saw the shocked looks on the faces of his friends.
"Oh damn, that's some heavy stuff." Said Yang.
"Dude, how come you never told us?" Asked Sun.
"I felt embarrassed, I was worried that if I told you guys you'd see me as less cool." Replied Neptune.
"If it makes you feel any better, we never thought that you were cool." Said Scarlet.
"That's great Scarlet, I know that I can always rely on you to have my back." Said Neptune.
"So, should we do something with that?" Asked Ruby.
"Do what?" Asked Jaune.
"You know, help him overcome his fear of the water." Said Weiss.
"How would we do that?" Asked Pyrrha.
"We are at a pool for reason, we could help him during the exercise." Said Rock.
"I believe that there is a seventy percent chance of success if Neptune is helped with overcoming his fear of the water." Said Penny, scaring some of the people at the pool with her sudden arrival.
"Gah, Penny. When did you get here!" Exclaimed Ruby.
"A few seconds ago." Replied Penny.
"But why, you don't usually take part in our classes." Said Ruby.
"I was invited by professor Goodwitch." Replied Penny.
"Are you sure that is smart, are you even... you know... water proof." Said Ruby, whispering the last part.
"Do not worry friend Ruby, just like Rock I am also water proof." Replied Penny.
Upon hearing what Penny said Neptune walked over to Ruby and whispered "Is she... also a..." as he pointed to Rock and added "a robot?"
"Yeah, she is." Replied Ruby.
"Does anyone else know?" Asked Neptune.
"My team, and I think Team JNPR. And now so do you." Replied Ruby. "Please don't go spreading word of this around the school, Penny trusted me with this and she can be very naive."
"Don't worry, I won't tell a soul." Replied Neptune, who then added "I can understand why you don't want people like Team CRDL to know about that."
To which Ruby to nodded in agreement and asked "Where are they, I haven't seen them since yesterday."
"Oh that, they are in Vale doing some missions to fix their failing grades." Replied Neptune.
"So they won't be joining us in this exercise?" Ruby asked, to which Neptune shook his head. The two then rejoined the rest of the first year students, as Professor Goodwitch had arrived at the swimming pool.
"Apologies for being so late students, that thunderstorm from last night seems to have stopped but we aren't sure if it is going to continue so we had to make sure that it would be safe to fo an exercise involving the pool. Now, as for why you are all here today we will be teaching you how to use your aura to breathe underwater." Said Professor Goodwitch, to which Rock raised his hand so she said "Yes Mr Light?"
"Why am I here, everyone knows I'm a robot I don't even need oxygen to survive." Said Rock.
"Correct, but after yesterday we want to make sure you won't run off again. So we'll have you watching over everyone when they are underwater, and if they are struggling you will ensure that they are brought to the surface safely. Now, I want all of you to go into the pool. Oh and no cannonball jumps" Said Professor Goodwitch.
"Ooooh, someone's in trouble." Said Nora, after which she and the rest of the first year students, except for Penny and Neptune, jumped in the pool. With some not listening to Goodwitch and preforming a cannonball jump, causing the elderly combat instructor to get wet from the water splashed on her.
"Students, I said no cannonball jumps!" Yelled Professor Goodwitch with an annoyed look on her face.
"Great, I got my hair wet." Complained Weiss.
"Oh relax Weiss, we're going underwater all of our hair is going to get wet." Said Ruby.
"Now Students, for this exercise I'm going to need you to focus on your aura." Said Professor Goodwitch, after which all the students made sure to focus on her. Once she saw that she continued her explanation by saying. "Visualise your aura, view it as a part of yourself and use it to create a barrier around yourself. A barrier that allows you to filter the oxygen out of the water. Now, use that technique and go underwater for as long as possible however don't overexert yourself. If you can't go on any longer go back to the surface in a safe manner, if you have trouble ask mr Light for help. Now everyone except for Ms Polendina and Mr Versailles go underwater, and I wish you the best of luck with this exercise."
All the students in the pool nodded, and each of them began to follow the instructions. Leading to the pool beginning to glow in almost every colour imaginable, after which all the students, save for Neptune and Penny who were still on the poolside, went underwater
"Now, Mr Versailles I know that you have a fear of the water. However, I won't allow you to simply skip this class. You can't simply get out of a situation just because water is nearby, when you are a huntsman and you are out on a mission you can't just simply abandon your teammates due to a fear of the water. There are a lot of situations where you have to be near water and you have to focus. You can't let the fear of water hold you back, so I'm having Ms Polendina and anyone else who can't keep going with the exercise help you with your fear. Now, all I can say to you is good luck." Said Professor Goodwitch, after which she went into a nearby office to look at the camera's to see how the students were doing underwater.
This left both Neptune and Penny alone in silence, with Penny speaking up first and saying "Don't worry friend Neptune, I will make sure that nothing bad is going to happen."
"I hope so... wait friend?" Asked Neptune.
"Off course, you're friends with Ruby aren't you?" Asked Penny.
"I wouldn't say friends, more..." Said Neptune, only to be interrupted by Penny.
"So you two are enemies?" Asked Penny.
"Oh no, not at all. I'd say we're more like acquaintances, me and Sun hang out with her teammates, which is how we got to know her." Said Neptune.
"Hmmm, an acquaintance. I'll add that to my records." Said Penny, as fell silent and a loading bar appeared on her eyes for a few seconds before disappearing. She then added "But don't worry, Ruby sees a lot of people as her friends. So I'll be sure to help you with your fear of dihydrogen monoxide."
"You mean water, right?" Asked Neptune.
"Why, off course I'll be helping you with that." Said Penny.
"How will you be doing that?" Asked Neptune.
"First you'll let your feet flow through the water." Said Penny, to which Neptune nodded with a hint of hesitation and then slowly but surely sat down on the water edge and let his feet sink into the water.
"Ok... I'm doing it... now what do I do?" Asked Neptune, only for him to get pushed into the water by Penny. He then quickly went to the surface and struggled to stay afloat while exclaiming "Penny, what was that for!"
"Look, you're swimming. Now keep moving your appendages to avoid drowning." Said Penny.
"You're not helping!" Exclaimed Neptune.
Later
After the class on using aura as a way to breathe underwater was finished, all the students had made it back to the changing rooms. And Right before Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang went into the female changing room Rock called out to them and said "Listen, there are no classes after this so I was thinking that we meet up at the lab to go after the next robot master when we finished getting cleaned and changed."
"Sure, we'll meet you there." Said Ruby.
"As long as he keeps his promise and doesn't run off again out of fear." Joked Yang, causing her teammates to look at her in shock.
"Oh I see how it is, alright then. I'll be making due on my threat, and I'll be asking Ozpin for a team transfer." Said Rock, with an annoyed tone in his voice.
"Yang, don't be mean." Whined Ruby.
"Oh come on, it's not that bad." Replied Yang, only for her to receive a look of disappointment from Weiss.
"That was going a bit too far Yang, sure he shouldn't have left like that but let's not forget how badly he got injured yesterday." Said Blake.
"OK fine, sorry Rock. I was only joking." Said Yang.
Rock sighed and replied "Whatever." After which he went into the changing rooms.
"Well, that was uncalled for." Said Weiss.
"I was just joking." Said Yang.
"Yeah, well you know what Yang? You sometimes go too far with them, ever think about that." Said Blake.
"Yang, he already is under a lot of stress with this whole situation and the strain the double gear system puts on him. So please, when we're done today apologise to him. It's not fair for you to hold that over him. And look, he made a mistake he isn't perfect." Said Ruby.
"Alright, I'll do it. I'll talk to him later about it." Said Yang, to which Ruby nodded. After which the group went into their changing rooms to get out of their swimwear.
In the meantime Rock had entered the boys changing room and saw that some of his friends were crowded around Neptune, so he walked over to them and was able to hear the conversation they were having "...it certainly is good that Penny was able to help you today." Said Ren.
"I hated every second of that." Replied Neptune.
"Sure, but dude you're gonna have to let go of your fear of water eventually." Said Sun.
"Easy for you to say, any time I get close to a body of water I see myself nearly drowning in a water bubble that I created myself. It's not a fun time, I can tell you that much." Said Neptune.
"Maybe you should go talk to professor Peach about that, Ruby goes there for her nightmares over seeing someone die and dying for a few minutes herself." Said Jaune.
"Yeah that could help... wait, Ruby DIED! What happened!" Exclaimed Neptune.
"The man who kidnapped us drained all of her aura out of her body." Said Rock.
"So is she a ghost or something?" Asked Sun, earning him a smack on the back of his head from Rock.
"No, she came back after Jaune used his semblance to bring her back." Said Rock.
"Is that why she hasn't been using her semblance in a while?" Asked Neptune.
"It is, but with the sessions between her and Professor Peach things have been getting better." Replied Rock.
"In that case, I'll go see if it is possible to have session with her." Said Neptune.
"That's great, and hey maybe you'll be able to improve your swimming ability. Cause you were doing pretty badly dude." Said Sun.
"Weren't you the one who went up first?" Asked Jaune.
"Oh be quiet Mr I-have-the-aura-of-ten-people." Said Neptune.
"Guys, look it doesn't matter who returned to the surface first. What matters is that you all learned how to breathe underwater using your aura, some of you need to get better at it. But all in all I think that you all did pretty good." Said Rock, who then added "Then again, I'm not a teacher so take my judgement with a grain of salt." Causing everyone in the room to groan in annoyance.
Later at the lab
A while later the other members of Team R_WBY had made it to Doctor Light's lab, and when they entered it they were greeted by Rock looking at the main computer which showed all the weapons that he had collected being shown through the hard drive being connected to the main computer.
"Rock, what are you doing?" Asked Ruby.
"Checking all of weapons." Said Rock, after which Doctor Light walked into the room and was asked by Rock "Dad, did you finish the surprise?"
"I did, you will be able to implement it now." Said Doctor Light.
"A surprise, what is it?" Asked Weiss.
"I have been working on something that would allow you to use my weapons." Said Rock.
"What, how? It's data, how would we even be able to use that?" Asked Weiss.
"Simple, your aura gets synced with your scrolls to see how much aura you have. If the same is done with weapons, you would be able to use my weapons as well." Said Rock.
"Rock, even if that was possible. How would that even work?" Asked Weiss.
"By downloading an update to your scrolls that would allow you to use my weapons, simple as that." Replied Rock.
"OK but why, why give us your weapons?" Asked Ruby.
"Well, it's quite simple actually. There are nearly a hundred and twenty weapons out there, and I'll never be able to use all of them. And they are at risk of being stolen, cause it is possible that Wily will send his robots here to steal the weapon data to use it for his robots. Which is why I want to try it out first by giving you the weapons obtained during this adventure, and see if anything can be done after that." Said Rock.
"But will that even work for us and our aura?" Asked Blake.
"Off course it will, I mean your clothes and weapons also get cloned when you create a shadow clone. So realistically you four should be able to use my weapons." Replied Rock.
"Well, I'm convinced." Replied Yang.
"You are?" Asked Weiss.
"Yeah, I mean Doctor Light is specialised in this sort of stuff. So I'd think that they would know what they are talking about." Said Yang.
"What about you two? Are you two convinced?" Asked Weiss to Blake and Ruby, who simply nodded to agree with what Yang was saying. "Very well then, if they are fine with it then so am I."
"Good, then place your scrolls on this grid on the table to get the upgrade started." Said Rock, after which the rest of his team placed their scrolls on the grid on the table. Doctor Light then pressed several buttons which made a graphic appear on the screen that showed folders being transferred from one file to another file. After a few seconds the process stopped and a signal was given that indicated that the process was finished. Rock then hovered his hand over the scrolls of Blake and Weiss and placed one weapon on each of the scrolls.
His teammates then grabbed the scrolls, and looked at what was changed. They then saw a new menu screen with eight slots, with Weiss seeing that she had the Block Dropper and Blake seeing that she had the Acid Barrier.
"So why do we have eight slots?" Asked Ruby.
"Cause I want to see if this works with you guys, and if there were more it wouldn't be fair. As I want to try also give weapons to Team JNPR, Sun, Neptune and some other people we know. And it wouldn't be fair if one person had more weapons than other people." Said Rock.
"Why'd you give me and Weiss..."
"Weiss and I..."
"Why'd you give me and Weiss those weapons?" Asked Blake, causing Weiss to get a look of annoyance on her face.
"I just think they fit you both, Weiss could use her rapier to drop the blocks and your shadow clones could use the acid to give extra damage your opponents. Why don't you try using them." Said Rock, to which Blake and Weiss nodded with hesitation before selecting the use of their newly given weapons. Which led to their clothes changing colours as a result of the weapons being used. "Well, I did not expect this to happen."
"Did not expect this! I'm light green!" Yelled Weiss, as her clothes were revealed to be a mix between white and a mix between blue and light green instead of her usual colours.
"Light green? No that's blue." Said Yang.
"I think it's a mix between the two colours." Said Ruby.
"I think you might be right about that." Said Doctor Light.
"Hey Blake, you alright?" Asked Ruby, who noticed her teammates horrified look at her new colour.
"Yeah, you're looking kind of green." Joked Yang.
"Green... so much green... why am I green... why are my pants and arms green? I look like Ren." Muttered Blake.
"You still have some purple on you, maybe it's not so bad." Said Yang, trying to make her friend feel better.
Rock sighed and said "Just switch back to your usual attire." Which Blake and Weiss did, returning their clothes to their regular colours. "Now look, we should get going to go after the next robot master. I checked and the next one we should take on is..." Rock couldn't finish the sentence as suddenly the power went out in the lab.
"That's weird, why would the power even go out right now?" Asked Doctor Light, who then left the lab to go and check outside. After a few second she called out to the group to come outside, so Team RRWBY quickly rushed outside and was met with a strange sight. The power all over Beacon academy had gone out, and a giant thunder cloud was beginning to form above Beacon which was beginning to stretch out over to Vale.
"What is that?" Asked Weiss.
"You guys think it's a Grimm that can control the weather?" Asked Ruby.
"Not quite Miss Rose." Said Professor Ozpin who rushed towards the group with a worried look on his face.
"What's wrong Professor?" Asked Yang.
"The power has gone out all over the kingdom of Vale due to some thunder hitting the main power plant, and now a massive thunder storm is beginning to form over all of Vale." Said Professor Ozpin.
"Does this have anything to do with the thunder storm from last night?" Asked Rock.
"I believe it does, unfortunately without any power the kingdoms defences will be down as well. Which leaves only the huntsmen and huntresses in Vale to protect us from the Grimm, and when they fall of Vale will fall to the Grimm. It's also why the White Fang used those underground tunnels during the Breach." Said Professor Ozpin.
"Because it allowed them to bypass the defences set up by the kingdom." Said Ruby.
"Precisely, now we are suspecting that foul play is involved as we think that one of the robot masters is doing this." Said Ozpin.
"Then we don't have a lot of time." Said Rock, who then looked at the thunder clouds with a worried expression on his face.
Ruby saw this and asked "Something wrong Rock?"
"Those clouds, we're going to be teleporting through what seems to be a building thunder storm. I'm not sure if the thunder can strike us while we are teleporting, but I think we should bring Jaune with us just in case someone needs to get healed." Said Rock.
"Already send him a message, so don't worry about that." Said Yang, as she laughed a bit to herself.
"Yang, I swear if that message contained a pun." Grumbled Weiss in annoyance.
"I did say that it would be a shocking experience." Replied Yang, causing Weiss to groan in annoyance.
A few minutes later the group saw Jaune run up to them, and when he got to them he exclaimed "I got your message, what is the situation?"
"Jaune you see that massive thunder cloud that is beginning to form?" Asked Rock, to which Jaune nodded in response. "Well, we're going to have to teleport through it to get to the power plant where the next robot master is."
"Why am I needed?" Asked Jaune.
"We're not sure what will happen when we teleport through a thunderstorm, so we'll need you with us in case we get struck by lightning and need healing." Replied Rock.
"Sure, I'll be glad to help." Said Jaune.
"Really, just like that?" Asked Weiss.
"Yeah, I want to see how much my fighting abilities have improved." Replied Jaune.
"Alright then, in that case everyone grab onto me. We're getting out of here, now." Said Rock, after which the rest of the group grabbed onto him and they turned into a beam of blue energy and teleported away from Beacon. The beam of blue energy went through the thundercloud and after several seconds the beam of blue energy landed at the front of the power plant. The blue beam of energy then became solid again, showed everyone covered in ash and their hair was standing up straight from being struck by lightning.
"Well... that sucked." Said Jaune, trying to keep himself from vomiting. As he then started to glow and began to boost the aura of his friends to refill it after getting struck by lightning.
"You're telling me." Replied Blake, as she tried to get her bearings in order as she was feeling disheveled from the teleportation.
"Oh great, the hammer I got from the block fortress got destroyed by the thunder." Said Yang, as she saw that the hammer got been reduced to ashes.
"Rock... You were... you were right to... you know bring Jaune with us." Said Ruby, with a look of dizziness on her face.
"Why did you take a hammer in the first place?" Asked Jaune.
"I wanted to fight her on equal terms." Grumbled Yang.
"I mean you, Nora and Pyrrha are the best in our combat class I don't think that there was a need for you to even the playing field." Replied Jaune.
"Well that's reassuring." Said Yang.
"You good?" Asked Rock to Ruby with concern in his voice.
"Yeah... just a bit... dizzy... as if I got blasted off by an electric rodent." Replied Ruby.
"I think we should take a couple of seconds to rest, cause even I think that was strong." Replied Rock, who then turned to Weiss and asked "Weiss, are you doing ok?"
Weiss was in the process of cleaning the ash off her clothes, and replied "I'm fine, I think Myrtenaster might have acted as a lightning rod."
"I think that could help us." Said Rock, as he saw that Jaune finished using his semblance and saw that the rest of his friends were looking a lot better. "If everyone is feeling better, then we should go into this power plant before that thunder storm gets worse."
The group nodded, and got their weapons weapons ready. After which they followed the path that lead to the entrance, and while they were making their way there they saw some floating cylinders covered in electricity that were shot out of the air by Ruby using her weapon in it's gun form. The group continued moving forward, while avoiding some of the electrified panels that were placed on the ground.
They then entered the building and saw that rows of electric lasers were rising out of the ceiling and where beginning to move to the other side of the room. "You know, I'm beginning to think that we should have brought Nora with us as well." Said Yang.
"Well, I'm not going back to go and get her. So we'll just have to keep going." Said Rock, as the group then went to go and follow the lasers that were rising from the ceiling. Only for them to get trapped by another row of lasers that appeared behind them. The group then moved as fast as possible to get past the elevated platforms and after that they found themselves dropping down to the next floor.
Landing on the next floor the group saw small patches of lasers that were moving back and forth, they also saw that there were some safe zones that kept them protected from the lasers. So they rushed through the obstacles in their path, and there they saw a small device that was spinning around like crazy. So Weiss switched to the block dropper, summoned several blocks above it which led to the device being destroyed by the blocks and allowed them to keep moving forward, and they then dropped to another floor below them.
In the next room the group was greeted by several canons on the ceiling, enemies that looked like drones and some enemies that had canons for mouths which they kept protected by their large shields. So Blake switched to the acid barrier, and began to use the gun in Gambol Shroud to fire at the the robots that were in their way, which caused them to become destroyed as they were melted down. Doing this allowed the group to move forward and jump between platforms that were hovering over an electrified floor with relative ease.
In the next room the group had to avoid more lasers that were travelling on the ceiling and on the walls of the room, which the group managed to dodge while Yang used Ember Celica to fire blasts at the floating cylinders that were covered in electricity. Which destroyed them, after which the group kept moving through the room and repeated the process as they also climbed ladders to get to the floor above them. But at the last stretch they found themselves blocked by more lasers, which were moving much faster.
So Ruby began to spin Crescent Rose as fast as she could, and then threw it at the rows of lasers which led to them being destroyed and created an opening for them to move to the other end while Ruby picked up her weapon. And in the next room the group was only met with a single canon and a shielded enemy, which got taken out by Jaune using his sword to deliver several strikes that let to thee destruction of the robots.
They were then met with a large door, and Ruby wondered "Did we already make it to the robot master?"
"I don't think so, careful guys. This could be dangerous." Said Rock, as everyone got their weapons ready to prepare themselves for whatever was waiting for them in the next room. When they entered the room, they were met with a robot that looked like a massive power generator while the ceiling was covered in electric rods that the group immediately became wary of when they saw it.
Rock immediately shot a charged shot at the robot using the power gear, which led to several of the electric rods activating and shooting lasers to the ground which the group had to dodge. Weiss and Blake switched to their newly obtained weapons and began to fire them off against the robot. While Ruby and Yang began to fire rounds from their weapons. All the while the group kept dodging the lasers, while Jaune tried to get as close as possible to the machine by dodging the lasers.
After a bit a he managed to get close to the machine, and began to slash away at the cables while using his shield to guard against the balls of energy that were being shot out of it's mouth. At that moment Rock fired another charge shot out of it's buster using the power gear, while Jaune delivered a final strike to the robot by stabbing through it. That, alongside the charged shot led to the robot exploding. But due to Jaune being close to the robot, the explosion threw him into a nearby wall. But at the last moment, one of the lasers from the rods in the ceiling hit Ruby's leg who yelped out in pain from.
The group quickly grabbed Ruby and Jaune and moved to the next room, which was empty and allowed them to take a few seconds to rest. "Ruby, are you alright?" Asked Yang with concern in her voice over seeing her sister hurt like that.
"Jaune, are you ok?" Asked Weiss, only for Jaune to sit upright without any injuries being shown from being blasted into a wall.
"I'm fine." Said Jaune, after which he rushed over to Ruby and began to heal her leg.
"Thanks Jaune." Said Ruby, as she tried to ignore the stinging in her leg.
"What even happened?" Asked Weiss.
"I tried to dodge the laser, only for me to forget that I still don't have my semblance back. What kind of a leader am I, I don't have my semblance. I'm essentially dead weight to you guys!" Yelled Ruby, as tears were beginning to stream down her face.
"Ruby, it's going to be alright. Don't beat yourself up over it, sure you don't have your semblance back. But, you're still our leader." Said Yang.
"Yeah, don't beat yourself up over it. It's one mistake." Said Blake.
"But I feel like I lost a part of me. How can I even be a leader without a semblance?" Asked Ruby.
"Simple, you do what I did, you keep moving forward and make the best of a bad situation." Said Jaune "I didn't have my semblance at the start of the year, and yet I was still able to become a team leader."
"Ruby, I don't say this often enough but I'm glad that you are our leader. I don't think that there is anyone else who I would rather have as a leader. So don't feel too bad about you not having your semblance back, it will come back you just have to be patient." Said Weiss.
"You have an entire team that supports you, don't ever forget that." Said Rock.
"Thanks for the encouraging words guys." Said Ruby, as she wiped her tears away. At the same time Jaune stopped using his semblance as Ruby's leg had healed.
"You should be good now, try standing on it." Said Jaune, as he helped Ruby to get up. After a few seconds Ruby was able to stand on the leg again like nothing had happened.
"Are you feeling good enough to keep going?" Asked Rock, to which Ruby nodded. As the group then heard several thunder strikes outside, prompting Rock to say "Good, then we should continue before the storm outside gets worse."
The group nodded, and continued walking through a long hallway. While the group was doing so Rock started walking next to Yang and asked "How long has this been going on?"
"I don't know, I think she hides her insecurities over having lost her semblance like that. Though I do see that she feels bad about not having it, she has been pushing herself to the point of exhaustion at times." Replied Yang.
"Is there anything we or I can do?" Asked Rock.
"Just be there for her and help whenever she needs it." Replied Yang, to which Rock nodded. A silence then fell into the long hallway as the group kept moving and didn't find anything in the hallway. After a few seconds Yang broke the silence and said "Rock, sorry for being such a jerk earlier today. I sometimes make jokes or comments without thinking and I went too far with what I said. I get it, you were worried for our safety and it isn't fair to hold that over you. So I'm sorry for what I said."
"Don't worry Yang, I get it. I really do, I'm not too mad at you over it. Just annoyed." Said Rock.
"Thanks Rock, you rock." Joked Yang, causing a smile to form on Rock's face. After which the group made it to a large stairwell and looked up, seeing that they had to make it through a large tower. But there they also saw that there were sniper joe's on the stairs, blocking the path for them.
"Well, we're going to have to fight our through this." Said Rock, as Yang got a look of excitement on her face. She then ran up the first stairs, and punched the first two sniper joe's in the face and then thew them off the stairs, allowing them to move forward on the stairs. On the next floor they found more sniper joe's and Jaune used his sword to slice the robots to pieces when they lifted up their shields.
Over the next couple of minutes the group continued moving forward to the next couple of floors, with Weiss using her rapier to either impale the robots or by dropping blocks on them. Blake slashed at the robots, or used the acid barrier to take the robots out. Ruby used her scythe to slice the robots in half, while Yang punched the robot off the floor. While Rock used his charged shots to take the robots out, and then they reached the top floor where they walked up the last stairs where they reached an open area with dark storm clouds surrounding the platform.
At the corners of the platform were several power generators. They then looked around and saw that Team CRDL was being held captive in an electric cage being held up by a rope attached to a wall. "What happened to you guys?" Asked Rock.
"We were nearby when the power went out, so we went here to see what was going on. Only for us to get captured by that robot." Said Cardin.
"So where is the robot?" Asked Ruby.
"In the clouds." Replied Russel. After which a massive thunder strike hit the platform, which revealed Fuse Man on the platform.
"Fuse Man, so it is you doing this." Said Rock.
"Correct Mega Man, now watch as I fry all of Vale." Replied Fuse Man, who reached his hand into the air and began to shoot the electricity into the air. Only for him to get stunned by Rock using his charged shot with the power gear after which he got punched to the ground by Yang.
Fuse Man struggled to get up, while Rock said "Stay down, we don't have to fight."
"Oh but we do." Replied Fuse Man, as he shot a blast of electricity at Rock causing him to struggle to stand up. While Fuse Man added "Tell you what, you beat me and Vale is saved. You lose, all of Vale gets fried."
"Very well then, bring it on." Replied Rock, who activated the double gear system and rushed towards his opponent only for Fuse Man to summon a wall of electricity onto the platform which prevented the rest of the group from helping Rock while Fuse Man was teleporting across the platform. Rock had difficulty finding his opponent, so he aimed his buster at the place he predicted Fuse Man to appear in and fired the charged shot. Which hit the robot, and it let to Fuse Man activating his speed gear.
With the speed gear in use Fuse Man began to rush between the platform even faster, leading to Rock finding even more trouble in trying to hit the robot. But he had to dodge as Fuse Man hit the ground multiple times, but after a few tries he was unable to dodge and the robot crashes into him. This stunned Rock, leading to Fuse Man taking the opportunity to continue crashing into Rock until he had a few bars of energy left and struggled to stand up. After which Fuse Man appeared in front of Rock, with an evil smirk on his face.
"You're beaten, now time to watch Vale fry." Said Fuse Man, as he lifted his arm into the air and electricity began to crackle in his hands. Only for his attention to be caught by several blasts being fired at him by the weapons of the rest of Team R_WBY. Fuse Man looked annoyed at the source of the shot, only for him to see that the barriers had disappeared. "Oh my, how did you get past the barrier?"
"We took out the generators located on the roof, you should be weakened now." Said Yang.
"Oh yeah, let's see about that." Replied Fuse Man, who tried to fire a blast into the sky. Only for nothing to happen.
"How unfortunate, without the power of an entire power plant you're nothing." Said Rock, who was beginning to get up again.
"No, I won't let you beat me. I still have a spark inside of me, I can still fight." Fuse Man spat.
"You can't, you're done Fuse Man and just to make this extra unfair for you..." Yang said, as she shot the cage holding Team CRDL freeing them and having them immediately rush over to the group to help them fight Fuse Man.
"I won't go down without a fight." Replied Fuse Man, who tried to rush at the group while charging up some small sparks of electricity. But it was no use, as Yang delivered an uppercut to the robot and launched it into the air. While in the air Blake delivered several slashes to the robot with her shadow clones, after which Weiss dropped blocks on the robot which made it fall to the ground. Where Jaune delivered several slashes to the robot with his sword, after which Russel, Dove and Sky delivered slashes to the robot with their own weapons.
Cardin then came in and used his mace to launch Fuse Man away with an explosion from his mace, after which Rock used a charge shot which hit the robot and made it fall to the ground. Fuse Man got up and exclaimed "You think you have beaten me! Hah! Don't be so sure about that!" After which smoke started emerging from him, he noticed this and added "I might be gone, but Wily won't loose! You won't be able to beat him!" After which the robot exploded, and left behind a memory chip.
Ruby picked up the memory chip and asked "Rock, can I have this one?"
"Sure, go right ahead." Said Rock not really focusing on the question, as he was more focusing on the weather beginning to clear up. After a few seconds the cloud was gone, and the entire sky cleared up. Rock smiled and said "We did it, we saved Vale from being destroyed by a massive thunder storm."
Ruby, who had put the weapon data in her scroll got the message *Scramble Thunder Obtained*, then replied with "We sure did, good job Rock."
"I'd say that it was more of a team effort." Replied Rock.
"Are you feeling good enough to teleport all ten of us back to Beacon?" Asked Weiss.
"I think so, everyone grab onto me." Said Rock, which the group did and after a few seconds Rock turned into energy and the group teleported away from the power plant. And after a few seconds they teleported onto Beacon grounds only for the group to be launched away from each other when Rock became solid again. They were then met with Professor Ozpin looking at them.
"Looking at the sky I can tell that your mission was a success, you can all have the rest of the day off as there are no classes scheduled today." Said Professor Ozpin.
"Thanks professor, but I think we're going to practice with our new weapons." Said Ruby.
"Really?" Asked Rock.
"Yeah, cause we keep forgetting to help you train with the double gear system." Said Yang.
"Oh right that, yeah we should get to some training in." Said Rock.
"Jaune, maybe get your team as well. We could train as a group." Said Ruby.
"Sure, I'll go get them. I'll see you all at the training halls." Said Jaune, who ran off.
Yang then turned to Team CRDL and asked "You guys want to join us as well?"
"No, we're still exhausted from the missions for extra credit that we had." Said Cardin, after which he and his team ran off
"Huh, that's weird. Oh well, lets go to the training hall." Said Ruby, after which she and her team left the courtyard to go to the training halls.
Later
A while later Team CRDL had made it to their own dorm room, and they were all sitting on their beds as Cardin had called in a team meting. "Do you guys know why I called this meeting?" He asked.
"Cause we got captured." Replied Dove.
"No... well actually it is a part of it." Said Cardin.
"The mission we were send on." Said Sky.
"It has nothing to do with that." Replied Cardin.
"Then tell us, why are we having this meeting?" Asked Russel.
"Do you guys ever look around when we walk around Beacon?" Asked Cardin, to which his teammates nodded so he asked "Then tell me, what do you notice?"
"We aren't exactly liked among the student body." Said Russel.
"Most people try to avoid us." Said Dove.
"What they said, but also with a hint of disdain in their eyes." Said Sky.
"Exactly, all of that. We are the most hated team at Beacon, we are the worst team at Beacon. Our grades suck, no one likes us and we need extra missions to help us with our failing grades. Even Arc, the guy with the forged transcripts and no semblance at the start of the year is doing better than us." Said Cardin.
"So you want to turn over a new leaf?" Asked Sky.
"I mean it makes sense, we have been acting like jackasses since the start of the year." Said Russel.
"How would you say that we do that?" Asked Dove.
"By changing our ways, we stop acting like such jackasses all the time and we need to apologise to those that we hurt with our actions. And we need to start bettering ourselves." Said Cardin.
"You think it will work?" Asked Russel.
"I don't know, but what I do know is that if we take baby steps that we'll be able to better ourselves. In not just our eyes, but the eyes of our peers." Said Cardin, in response the rest of his teammates gave him a nod of understanding and as a sign of them vowing to become better people.
At Salem's Kingdom
Deep within the prison cells of Salem's castle were several people, all of them unconscious and all of them chained to the walls. That was until one of them, Xander Payne, woke up and began to look around him with a frantic expression on his face while also muttering "What is this, where am I, what is happening?"
"Looks like our guests have finally awoken." A feminine voice said from within the shadows, who revealed herself to Xander when she stepped out of the shadows as Salem.
"Who are you?" Asked Xander, with fear filled in his voice.
"Me, I am the queen of the Grimm, bringer of darkness and destruction. But some, call me Salem." She replied.
"Why am I here?" Asked Xander.
"I was hoping that you would be able to explain that to me, seeing as you are reason why my plans for the Vytal festival got derailed." Said Salem.
"Vytal festival, what are you talking about?" Xander lied.
Salem saw through the lie and began to form a ball of energy in her hand, and started aiming it at Theo Payne who was also in the cell and was still unconscious "The one next to you is your brother, is he not?" She asked, to which Xander nodded "Then I'll show you what happens when someone lies to me."
Salem was about to fire a blast from her hands at Theo, only for Xander to call out to her "Wait! Stop! I'll tell you everything!"
"Good, now tell me. Why were you working with Doctor Merlot?" Asked Salem.
"We, or at least what is left of us were part of a group called the Emerald Spears and we were against robots. We fought against the Mega Man many times, and then we were approached by Doctor Merlot. He told us that if we were to work for him we would be able to get rid of all the robots, most of the people in our group bought it. But I knew better, I knew it was a lie. So I confronted him about it, and made me the secret leader of the operations and told me to take care of our leader should the moment arise. As for Merlot he didn't exactly want to get rid of robots, he just wanted to take over Remnant."
"I didn't even know that you were planning something, we thought that the White Fang were planning something. So we stayed out of their way until we were given order by Doctor Merlot. We were just working for him, we didn't know that our plans were going to clash with others. I swear!" Exclaimed Xander.
"I see, seeing as your not lying to me I have all the answers I wanted on why my plans got derailed." Said Salem, who then started leaving the room and then turned to Tyrian and said "Tyrian, you can get rid of our guests now."
Xander knew what this meant and exclaimed "WAIT! I can help you! You want to take over Remnant as well, right? Well I can help you, I can help you conquer it. Get rid of all the robots standing in your way, I can help you. Everyone who is a part of the Emerald Spears can help you, please just don't kill us. We'll do anything you tell us to do."
"Anything, I'll think it over. Tyrian, keep a close eye on our guests. I always hated snivelling cowards that tried to weasel their way away from any consequences." Said Salem.
"Don't worry my queen, I'll keep a close eye on them." Said Tyrian, while wearing a slasher smile on his face.
"Good." Said Salem, who then left the cell block of her castle and began to walk through the halls of it when she heard a voice call out to her.
"Salem!"
"Who is there, show yourself!" Salem yelled, who was then met with a spirit that looked like a green man, with red hair and who was wearing armour.
"It has been a while, hasn't it Salem?" Asked the voice.
"You, the one from several months ago. Why are you here?" Asked Salem.
"I have been watching over Remnant for the last couple of months and I have a present for you." Replied the voice.
"A present, what are you talking about?" Asked Salem.
"Information that could help you beat your enemies." Replied the voice.
"Why, I don't even know your name." Said Salem.
"My name, oh that's right I haven't given you my name. I have gone by many names over time, but you can call me Ganondorf." Replied Ganondorf "As for why I'm giving you a present, let's just say that I want to help the winning side."
"The winning side... well then tell me what you have found." Said Salem.
"The location of the spring maiden, she is with a tribe of bandits in Mistral. Now I recommend that you have that lackey of your send the White Fang after that tribe." Replied Ganondorf.
"Why, why would I do that?" Asked Salem.
"Simple, I predict that the spring maiden will end up at the same location as the fall maiden. Allowing that lackey of yours to scoop up the powers of two maidens. Giving you an advantage over your dear Ozma." Said Ganondorf.
"Ozma, how do you know about that?" Asked Salem.
"Oh Salem, let's just say that I can see the past, the present and the future. All possible outcomes even, and I have seen your past as well as all your futures. Listen to me, and you will win." Said Ganondorf, who noticed a look of doubt on Salem's face "I see that you still need to think it over, I'll come back at a later date then."
Ganondorf was about to vanish, when Salem called out to him "Wait! You say that listening to you will lead to my victory? Including me being finally able to die?" She asked, to which Ganondorf nodded "Then I'll do it, I'll take your advice and make changes to the plan."
"Good, I'll leave you to it. You'll be hearing from me in the future, oh and keep the Emerald Spears around They might be of use to you." Said Ganondorf, as he then vanished.
Salem was then left alone in the hallway, she wondered for a few seconds if what she heard was even real. But she then remember what Ganondorf looked like, and she knew that he was speaking the truth and that she hadn't imagined it. She then quickly rushed over to her throne room to give Cinder new orders regarding the plan, all the while she felt something she hadn't felt in a long time. Hope, the hope that she would finally be able to die.
Elsewhere
Somewhere in the frozen tundra of Solitas, while a massive snowstorm was going on, a robotic hand was fishing robot parts out of the frozen water and placing them near each other. While the robot was doing that it let out a maddening laugh and said "Do not worry my friend, I'll put you back together and soon we'll all be having so much fun together." Some dark energy escaped from the robot and went into the broken down robot, activating it and prompting the robot to say "Good, one down many more to go."
