I opened my eyes to see that Holly and I were somewhere at a isolated beach. I wasn't sure which beach specifically, nor that it mattered. However, something or someone pulled us out from The Netherrealm. I was able to let Holly go, as we stood up.
"What is this place?" Holly questioned, still have some Quan Chi influence left.
"I'm not sure, but it does look like a beach." I answered.
It's The Void. We turned to see it was Raiden. He started his way towards us. "I almost thought that I was going to lose you both."
"Was that you?" I asked.
He smiled. "I was able to save someone that remains mortal in The Netherrealm."
I looked at Holly. "Him too?" Raiden stood silent.
"Since that you nearly killed us both. We shall continue with our fight." Holly was prepared.
Raiden was ready with his lightening abilities. However, I stood in his way. "Please... I can handle this." Skeptical, he ceased his powers, with doubt. I approached to Holly. "Captain Holly... sir. Please forgive me."
"Why should I?" he questioned.
"Because I know deep down, you would." I answered, before scoffed. "You would have suffered greatly if I let you fall. However, back in Sandleford, I've always looked up to you. Especially, it carries me over after the attempt Kung Lao was about to end your life. I stopped his attack, so you won't suffer death and defeat."
"But... but I was defeated."
"Yes, but you lived." I confirmed. "You even helped us escape, when Outworld invaded. Even afterwards, helped find Efrafa."
Holly was still struggling. "With you and a few others."
"Yes, but you're the one made the idea of venturing there to see any rabbits to join Watership Down. Despite of being captured, we looked after each other in spite of torture. It's there you fell in love with Hyzenthlay."
"Whom I loss forever because of-"
"Because of Shang Tsung ended your life. He murdered you and Quan Chi took control of you to serve him in The Netherrealm, along with Scaibous and Toadflax." I interrupted. "What you did back in Watership Down, not only saved others, but saved Hyzenthlay's life and my sister's. I wish I would have been dead, instead of you. If you wish for me to die... I'll let you do it."
"But Thomas-"
"No Raiden." I cut off of Raiden's protest. "If you feel that I should die... I'll let you permit it. Besides, I'm already feeling dead in the inside without you."
Holly gentle held me down to the ground. "But what about your sister?"
"Hyzenthlay will look after her. You two treated us like family, after our parents died. However, I know I'll see her again, when she joins me." I closed my eyes and where for the smite.
I was ready to die anyway. If Holly was still under Quan Chi's curse, I was still happy to see he was there before I die. Strange it sounds, it was fitting to see him and reminisce the times we shared.
I began to remember the moments... when we first saw each other in Sandleford... sparing him from Kung Lao... seeing Holly alive and escaped from imprisonment back in Sandleford... our talks at the brook... and again at the down... our journey and trials in Efrafa... and eventually our escape... seeing him again in my home world and comforting me... returning back to the down and freeing the prisoners in Efrafa... our settle down in Watership Down... my PTSD attacks... and even before the siege, our talks by the fire. I smiled, while shedding a tear.
I than felt release from restraint. I opened my eyes to see Raiden's puzzlement of amazement. I turned around to see Holly was just standing there. His fury and possessed eyes changed back to his former eye color. He than lowered his head in shame.
"Holly..." I attempt to reach for him, but he turned away.
"No. You mustn't. I'm one of The Ten Thousand Elil." in shame, he stated.
"No you're not." I refused to believe that. I reached for his face and had him face me. "I still look up to you sir." I embraced him with a hug. It was more than five minutes it seems that I couldn't let him go. It wasn't until I started to feel nothing. I looked at him to see he became a spirit. I knew that he's still dead. "I guess you're gone."
"Never." he kindly spoke. "You freed me."
A black rabbit came out of no where. Raiden and I spotted the approach of the rabbit to Holly.
"What kind of elder god are you?" Raiden questioned.
"I go by many names." the doe spoke.
"You're the... The Black Rabbit of Inle'." I realized. "He stopped running?"
She nodded her head. "I'm afraid to say it's true."
Heartbroken... with fewer words. "Oh... I guess-" I sniffled. "- I guess it was nearly for nothing."
Holly came to me. "It was never for nothing. You freed me from the flames. As well as destroying each other, and hurting others."
"I guess you're to join her?" I feared.
The Black Rabbit came to Holly's side. "If only he wishes to join my Owsla. He'll still be free in Frith's Meadow. His bravery, self-sacrifice, and talents, has earned him to join my Owsla."
I nodded my head, before looking back at Holly. "I'll be honored. Thank you." Holly answered her request.
"I guess it's a goodbye." I feared.
Holly took off the scarf that I gave him. It was tarnished with his blood. "I wanted you to have the scarf you gave me. I'm afraid I won't be able to take it with me." I cling onto it towards my heart. Tears fell. "I'm forever by your side. If always a need of me, the scarf will bring me back."
I looked back at him. "Whenever I need you."
"Whenever you're troubled or needed to see me in person, I'll be here." Holly smiled. He than placed his paw by my heart. "No matter what happens to me... I'll always be here. I promise, son."
"Thomas." Raiden called for me, as he summoned a portal. "I apologize, but we must make hast back to the warren. They need you."
"Go on... they need you." Holly convinced me.
I nodded and I gave him a kiss on his left muzzle. "I won't let you down."
"If you find it, destroy the sorcerer's amulet. It'll free control of his warriors, including the rabbits." The Black Rabbit advised me to do this important instruction.
"He's back in The Netherrealm." I feared.
"No. He made his return for the final time." she added. "If you're able to obtain his amulet and destroy it, you'll be freeing the rabbits from his enslavement."
I nodded, before I rejoined Raiden to the portal. The lightening engulfed us, as I looked back to see Holly and The Black Rabbit disappeared.
"He'll be watching over you." Raiden assured me.
"I know." The flash of lightening destroyed the view of the beach and began the teleportation.
Gasped for air, I woke up to see I was back in the mortal world.
"Thomas!" Hazel's voice came.
"Thomas!" Katie jumped and hugged me.
"I can't believe it!" Bigwig amazed. "We thought we lost you!"
I turned back to Holly's lifeless body. "Well..." I couldn't figure what to say.
"He still stopped running?" Hyzenthlay asked me.
In shame, but I had to tell the truth. "I tried my best."
"Oh." she said. "Is he..."
I nodded. "He's free now." I leave off the topic of him being a temporary servant to Quan Chi. "In Frith's Meadow." I teared, until she came and embraced me.
"There's nothing more you could have done. Except, you have freed him." she stated.
Hazel! Bluebell rushed over towards us. "I hope I don't mean to intrude, but they're starting to dig up the warren! And Woundwart is leading the assault."
There's only one critical mission left that we have to do. Defend the warren and hopes to confront Quan Chi for the final time.
