I opened my eyes slowly to see if the clouds of darkness was still present. However, it was different. I opened my eyes to see the gray clouds broke. As well as, the black skies were brightened back to the light blue color. The sun shone once again. I turned to see Liu Kang was waking up from his unconscious. All we could remember was that we send Shao Kahn to the sky. From there... he was destroyed.
"Did we do it?" I asked Liu Kang.
He nodded firmly. "Yes. And thank you for your aid."
"You two are the ones to be commended for Shao Kahn's end." Raiden approached us.
"Not exactly." I stated. "We had plenty of help..." Thinking back, about what happened to Holly, it wasn't smooth sail. "...even though with some costs."
Holly hopped towards us and warmly smiled. "There's nothing more you could have done, son."
"Indeed." The Black Rabbit agreed. "''There is not a day or night: but a doe offers her life for her kittens, or some honest captain of Owsla his life for his Chief Rabbit's. Sometimes it is taken, sometimes it is not. But there is no bargain, for here, what is, is what must be.'"
"Fate." Liu Kang basically summarized it.
"Not entirely, but some exact."
I started to look around to see the enemies were gone. "Where did everyone go? Especially Woundwart?"
I'll tell you what happened. We all turned to see Bigwig slowly approaching towards us. Heavily wounded, but miraculously, capable to hop on all fours. "Let's just say he had a nasty coming to him."
"Thlayli!" Captain Holly noticed his old companion's injuries. We rushed over him.
"Holly?!" Bigwig stepped back a bit. "You're... you're..."
"He's in spirit, as am I." The Black Rabbit stated.
Shocked. Bigwig couldn't believe he was seeing... The Black Rabbit of Inle'. "Am I to go?"
"You still have your life to live on." she answered with complete assurance that it wasn't Bigwig's time... yet.
"How did you get severely injured like this?" I asked.
"Ha! That was nothing." Bigwig scoffed, as a soldier felt no pain. Until he rubbed his head. "Except perhaps in the head."
"Luckily, you're still in one piece." The Black Rabbit confirmed. "Now I must depart. I'll be waiting for you soon, Holly." She vanished, after she left the down.
Rabbits and humans are starting to exiting out of the warren to see the aftermath. The first to come out was Hazel. He looked around to see not a single enemy was in sight. Clover came behind him and the two had comforting moment of relief, including a nuzzle. They eventually noticed us not far from where they were. They joined us.
"Thomas!" Hazel and Clover hurried over.
"Hazel, Clover!" I noticed.
"Thank Frith, you're alright." Clover praised. She than looked at Holly. "Holly? Is that you?"
"Yes, Clover. In spirit. I'm afraid." he answered, before he turned towards Hazel. "Hazel-rah."
"Holly." Hazel was amazed to see him. "You're with them now." Holly nodded.
"I wonder what happened to Woundwart though." I still wonder to hear what happened according to Bigwig.
"Oh, right." Bigwig remembered. "After I woke up, I noticed that he exited out of the warren... and that was it."
"That's it?"
"You expect to hear a whole story?" he questioned.
"No, it was... it was just that most of us passed out, when everything went completely bright light and boom." I answered. "I haven't even recalled seeing Woundwart out or leaving the warren. All I know is that Shao Kahn is gone, including Orchis. Sainfoin withdrew with a few surviving Efrafans. Now they're scattered."
We all than wondered what happened to Woundwart. Most of us would say that he abandoned the warren, after being driven away from The Honeycomb, by courageous humans, that were standing up for injured Bigwig and the rest of the rabbits. Others speculated that after he left, he was taken. However, he may have able to escape from The Black Rabbit's fury storm. His fate... will remain a mystery.
Holly, at one point, wanted to see Hyzenthlay for the last time on Earth. We were able to show him where she was. She was still with his lifeless body, however his lifeless body was all covered with blankets that apparently Katie brought and covered him for warmth, comfort, and proper burial. The two were shocked to see Holly, as if he was alive. The three had their reunion of rejoice. It didn't stop him telling them the truth, about where he is now. Heartbroken, but they gratefully accepted it. The two had a final embracing moment, before they said their final farewell and goodbye. Before he hopped away from the down, he came towards me and whispered something in my.
"Look after our family. The warren, and Chief Rabbit."
I shared a hug, before he journeyed away from the down, before vanishing into the thin air. Leaving me empty, despair, and alone.
It took a few hours to repair the warren's tunnels and entrances, following after everyone's' wounds and shocks have come to past. When the evening came, I was alone in my burrow. It was the night, before Holly's final resting place. Thankfully, Nightwolf was able to keep his body clean and fresh, without decaying. With me, was nobody, except the scarf I gave to Holly. Since he's gone, he insisted for me to keep it. I had my sister stay with either Bluebell or Hyzenthlay. I couldn't remember because after repairing the warren, I was torn from the battle we had fought.
Are you needing some company?
I turned to see Hyzenthlay standing outside of the burrow. I simply remain silent, however nodded to respond. I knew she felt the same way of losing someone close. Between her and Holly, they were meant to be mates and starting a life together. Under a tragic circumstances, she's alone.
Without a single word, I accepted her entry. She looked up at the walls and ceilings of the burrow, before sitting down beside me. "Are you alright?"
I looked at her to see her face of concern, at the same time mourning, as I am. Without an answer, I continued to look down, as I held the scarf tightly in thought of Holly.
"Everyone was worried about you. Even your human companions were concerned about you. You barely said a word during and after repairing the warren." she expressed of how everyone was worried about me, as if I was contemplating of suicide. "Hazel and even Katie asked me to see you."
"Why?" I asked.
"They cared about you, as well everyone else here." she answered. "The morning before the battle, Holly told me about what happened."
"The suicide attempt or my past life?"
"Both. And I wanted to let you know-"
"You don't need to tell me. I had him too worked up with me, instead of having him enjoy time with you. Since you two are mates-"
"Holly cared for you!" she exclaimed. "I understood that you needed him. Even I wanted to make sure you're well. For your sister's sake."
I breathed a bit heavily. "To conclude it was my fault that we lost lives, including the one, who was treated me more of a father and a brother in arms."
"That was the invaders and Woundwart's fault, not yours!" I looked back at her. "We both lost someone whom we both loved and was looking after us."
"I just wished I could have been more there for you both, instead of all the time being there for me."
Hyzenthlay lightly chuckled. "You shouldn't have to worry about the both of us. Both of our lives were brought back through Hazel's warren and Holly."
I sniffed. "I'm glad at least you two had wonderful moments together. Especially him, seeing your smile."
She than lightly smiled. "Yes. Yes, indeed. However, when we spoke, he never stops failing to mention you. He brought up about you two respecting each other as soldiers. However, after seeing you two, you two respect each other as father and son."
"You noticed?"
She nodded and lightly smiled. "Yes." Her smile than fades. "However, he knew that you suffered terribly."
"All three of us have." I looked down and thought about the defector. "Did Campion spoke with you, about Holly?"
"Before the battle, the both of us spoke, while Holly was present." she recalled. "He noticed that Holly and I were mates, in which he gave us so much respect, especially with Holly."
In which I regretted myself of stopping them.
Campion was just outside and was perhaps listening to our conversation. The two of us gazed at him.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I just wanted to offer my condolences for you two's loss. He was perhaps the most decent and most respectable rabbit, I've ever met and perhaps never likely meet again."
"Thank you, sir." Hyzenthlay thanked him.
"Please... just call me Campion." he insisted, he than looked back at me. "I'm sorry you lost a fellow captain."
"He was more than a captain to me. Someone... that I could have shared the rest of my life with: my sister, Holly and Hyzenthlay, and myself like a family." I sniffed and choked up a bit. "I wish I could have saved."
Captain Campion felt ashamed, as he lowered his head down, as he closed his eyes. "No, human. My fault is mine."
"Stop!" Hyzenthlay spoke up. "There was nothing that either of us could have done. He's now resting peacefully in Frith's Meadow."
"And part of The Black Rabbit's Owsla. In which, he deserves to be part of it." Campion added.
"Please forgive me." I sniffed. "I need to get some sleep, since night has came. Also, his burial is tomorrow." I got into my bed and faced the wall.
"Very well, brother." Campion spoke. "Goodnight and see you in the morning." He than hopped slowly, before he stopped and I heard whispers of Campion and Hyzenthlay. I pretended to sleep, but it wasn't working. Although, I couldn't figure what they were talking about, probably the best I didn't have to hear it.
"Are you going to be alright, Thomas?" Hyzenthlay asked me.
"I'll be okay. Have a goodnight sleep." I answered back, before I lie on my bed and looked into the wall, with tears falling, when I closed.
She was about to head her way back to her burrow, until she stopped at the entrance of Thomas' burrow. Looking back at his burrow, he still sees him attempting to sleep, but sensed that he couldn't sleep. Coming down the path of the tunnel, Katie and Bluebell were coming down and came upon Hyzenthlay.
"Hello, you two." she greeted.
Katie peeked at her brother's burrow and noticed him alone. "Is he wanting company tonight?"
"Perhaps it's best that let your brother sleep alone tonight. He suggested to be alone." Hyzenthlay answered.
"If it'll help you, I could have his sister stay in burrow tonight." Bluebell suggested.
"Oh yes, please." Katie than turned towards Hyzenthlay. "If that's alright?"
Hyzenthlay smiled. "Of course. I'll watch your brother for tonight."
"And mom..." Katie spoke, until she realized what she said. "Oh. I'm sorry-"
"No harm done." Hyzenthlay warmly spoke. "Since Holly and I were together... and still will be, perhaps I could be a mother to you both."
Katie gasped. "You really mean it?"
She nodded her head. "Ever since in Efrafa, I've been committed since I saw you and noticed you're Thomas' sister, I would be looking after you." Without any words, Katie rushed and hugged her. Hyzenthlay embraced, before she had off to Bluebell's for the night and left the two rabbits alone.
"You sure you'll be alright with him?" Bluebell expressed concern.
"Holly looked after him. I could only do is follow what he would wanted me to do."
Bluebell looked back at Thomas sadly. "I wished not wanting Thomas to feel like this. Ever since Holly's gone, he hasn't feel the same. I'm worried about him."
"I feel the same way." she agreed. "However, I'll be fine. Please, look after Katie for the night."
Bluebell politely bowed his head, before he went along the way to catch up with Katie. When he was out of sight, Hyzenthlay quietly entered his burrow. She lied at a corner to keep watch of him. She was able to keep herself up, until she started to fall asleep.
