What I was missing

When he finished at the optometrist's office, Keitaro walked along the streets of Tokyo and headed toward the main tram station. He had passed many people and wondered why they looked at him so intently. It was especially true of the women who crossed his path as they greeted him with smiles and nods of approval. Teenage girls on their home from high school in their uniforms also passed by him and did a double take before they giggled or blushed. None of it was derisive mind you, as it seemed to be more like looks of doe-eyed awe.
Upon reaching the station, Keitaro walked over to the proper line and noticed the same thing here. Some very beautiful young women ogled him and he did not know why as he stepped aboard the tram. As it pulled out from the station, he found himself surrounded by many attractive women who all seemed to vie silently for his attention. He gulped and turned away, he looked out a window of the moving conveyance and tried to maintain an air of obliviousness.
"Hinata City, Hinata City!" came the announcement from the speakers in the tramcar.
After another minute, the tram stopped at the station and Keitaro got off. Just before the door closed, he heard a lot of female groans. Stepping down from the station platform, he turned and looked back at about twenty pair of eyes that stared back at him. To him, they seemed to be looks of sadness and of missed opportunities.
Passing by Haruka's place, Keitaro did not sees his cousin look out the window at him as he passed by her shop. Smiling, she heartily approved of what she saw as he climbed the long stone steps up to his home.
Sliding the door open, Keitaro entered and closed it behind him. He took off his shoes and put his house slippers on. Looking over at the counter, Keitaro was happy to that someone had brought up the post for him. For once, he could clearly read what is on the envelopes without the need to squint.
"Hey, Kei-kun. Welcome…," said Kitsune before she stopped in mid-sentence. She got off the couch where she had lounged and sauntered over to Keitaro with a huge smile on her face.
Not totally ignorant of what was happening, he blurted, "what, again!" He saw that the Fox had given him the same look that all of the other women had ever since he left the optometrist's office.
Reaching the object of her gaze, Kitsune threw her arms around a stunned Keitaro and asked, "Where is my Kei-kun? And, what have you done with him?"
"Come on, Kitsune," said an incredulous Keitaro, "Does getting contacts really make that much of a difference in how I look?" With her actions here, he began to wonder for himself if it might be true. He also took a good look at the woman who stood here before him as the reality of this situation then dawned on him. He really enjoyed what he saw, and for once he saw it clearly.
"Yeah, Kei-kun. It sure does," replied Kitsune as she nodded, "and, it is nice to see you without those dorky-looking glasses". Her smile widened.
Feeling bolder somehow, Keitaro placed his hands on her slender waist and enjoyed the touch.
Those mentioned glasses, which were now in Keitaro's shirt pocket, felt pressure from a pleasant source as two people shared a kiss.
For the first time in many years, the man in question saw things very clearly now, and not just from his eyes.
The end
