![]() Author has written 15 stories for Halo, Mass Effect, StarCraft, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Harry Potter. Hi, welcome to my profile page. Also celestial5n3k on AO3, although that will only have post-2020 submissions (FFN will have all my uploads). Feel free to browse and hit up the stuff I've written, I promise there's nothing overly dark or depressing there. Some of the older fics are cliched and iffy on the grammar, but they're there because I'll only delete stuff that violates site rules. It's very unlikely for there to be lemons/smut in them- in all honesty, sex is sweaty, sticky and dirty, and only hormones make it fun. Writing smut that maintain that hormonal feel is difficult. While you're here, do check out the stories I've favorite'd. Almost everything (95% ish?) in the Favorites List is grammatically correct and entertaining (IMHO). It's heavily weighted to sci-fi and fantasy, because that's what I grew up on. I'd like to think I have impeccable taste, so everything there should make for a memorable read. Personal details and rants are at the bottom of the profile. Personal Favorites - shortlist My personal favorites would be Of Sheep and Battle Chicken (by LogicalPremise), Child of the Storm (by Nimbus Llewelyn), Into the Storm (and its sequels by blank101), Harry Potter and the Prince of Slytherin (by The Sinister Man), and Three (by icy roses). Anything by Peptuck and Clell65619 are worth reading- I read the Harry Potter books because of Clell fanfics, not the other way around. The Dilgar War (by Lord of Misrule) and The Life (by casquis) are million-plus word epics that I willingly reread- the latter has iffy grammar/spelling early on, but it's worth it. Three is the only story I've finished that left me tired emotionally speaking, although I tend to avoid angsty stories as a rule of thumb (so YMMV). The Percy Jackson fics in the Favs List are almost entirely sappy ones, too. Core Inspirational Material I have a few video games, TV/movies, and books that I grew up with and love. This isn't an exhaustive list, but I'd wager most of them are on it. - Winnie the Pooh (the OG, if we're going by this chronologically) Star Wars, Assassin's Creed, Halo, Call of Duty, Worm, Stellaris & CK2 are things I wouldn't say I love, but they come close. A word on reviews: Please don't use the reviews to bash the creators of a work or the work itself. instead, please reserve reviews for critiquing the fanfic. Bashing or criticizing the stories are against FFN's policy. I will delete/hijack anonymous reviews that break this rule, and I will report named reviews that violate that rule. I don't want to do this, so please don't make me. It wastes both of our time and puts me in an annoyed mood. I'll also be deleting Guest reviews that are openly racist or derogatory- if you have a stance, actually take it without hiding behind anonymity. Personal Stuff I'm a Formula 1 fan, supporting Red Bull. I'm also a supporter of the (English) Premier League's perennially underperforming (it feels like it, anyway) Manchester United. I'll cheer on the Indonesian National Badminton Team. I can't say I have a favorite Hockey team, but it's probably the Calgary Flames, since that's the home team. I listen to a hodgepodge of genres, although I won't play Top 40 more than once a week. I was a sucker for EDM (let's not kid ourselves, 2012-16 were great for EDM) in my junior high years, and then I caught the bug for Alternative Rock. I used to be one of those twats that sneered at Rap/Hip-Hop. It's almost ironic that Rap/Hip-Hop is now my go-to genre for when I write stories, although classical (as in, chamber music) is my go-to for any academic papers. K-Pop, Spanish pop and French rap also appears on my spotify playlists, so I can't tell what my preferred genre is anymore. English is technically my second language in that it's the second one I learned, but that shouldn't be an excuse if the writing is grammatically incorrect. I've basically been using it as a first (and only) language for the past three years anyway. Despite being schooled in a British-derived curriculum (Cambridge - IGCSE), my teachers were mostly American or American-educated, so you'll see American English for the most part unless I slip up. I promise I won't write any angst or dragged-out tragedies. It's a category I personally detest. Hur dur my life sucks is just depressing to read, and I put 80% of the blame on The Fault in Our Stars for popularizing Teen Cancer Wuv Stories. Like, fuck you if you think that's a good plotline to reuse over and over again. Things that may bleed over into anything I write- I'm of Chinese descent, although the 'closest' ancestor I've had that was born in China proper was a great-great grandmother on my father's side of the family tree. My mom's side of the family is from Singapore, and my dad's from Jakarta. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents on both sides, and neither had much love for Japan thanks to their childhood memories. I grew up in a religiously-mixed family, Buddhist on one side and Catholic on the other. I'm fluent in two languages and semi-fluent in another two. My maternal grandfather was from what passed for the "upper class" in colonial Singapore, and an industrialist. My paternal grandfather is a literal 'rags to riches' story. They have surprisingly similar ideals- mainly that family is everything, and that actions, including inaction, always have consequences. Philosophically, I'm a Consequentialist. I don't think it matters if you had Good Intentions in doing something if it leads to a net loss to society. An example would be Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin. Regardless of what Whitney's stance was on slavery, the cotton gin made slavery profitable and necessary for the economy of the American South. Slavery is acknowledged as a moral negative today, and so the cotton gin's invention is arguably a bad thing. The intent of Whitney- whether it be to profit, or to reduce the amount of enslaved manpower in cotton harvesting- matters little, since the consequence was a proliferation of slavery. I try to avoid going overtly political in anything I write, but some of my leanings and opinions may seep through. Fic Ideas I might try out in the future: Percy Jackson Mistfall: Kronos tied the life-forces of his godly supporters to him when he marched on Olympus in the Second Titanomachy. His fall at the apex of the Battle of Manhattan shattered the fragile shroud hiding the Godly and Mortal worlds, and threw both into chaos. It's a massive problem in the making for Olympus, and as always it's Percy that gets saddled with fixing it. Chaos, though, is a ladder, and even paragons of loyalty can be tempted into climbing a rung or two. Cascade: Frederick Chase moves his family to San Francisco when Annabeth is six, and everything changes. In a world where Annabeth Chase is an unclaimed Centurion of the Twelfth Legion, Percy Jackson has no choice but to be deadlier and more ruthless. Several months before he turns 16, Percy leads a raid on the Princess Andromeda, docked in San Francisco, and runs into a unit of Roman demigods attempting to do the same. Duty-Bound (or, Lay Back and Think of Athens): Perseus Jackson is the Bastard Prince of Atlantis, and the King's personal commander and butcher. Annabeth Chase is a claimant to the Principality of New Athens, with ambition and a need for vengeance running through her veins. When Percy is sent to New Athens to secure an alliance against a common foe, he is granted wide latitude by Poseidon in how he would do so. And really, what better way to confirm an alliance than through the ties of blood? Harry Potter Of Might and Right: Harry Potter, but without the whole morals schtick. Will probably include a twist on the whole 'Noble Houses' fanon concept. Probably set after Dumbledore dies. Will avoid the cliched Weasley&Dumbledore bashfest that seems to happen in every single one of these fics. Game of Thrones/ASoIaF Game of Thrones, in Space: This started out as a HP idea, inspired by 'The Star Alliance'. Then I got drawn into 'The Black Prince', and now I have a sorta-kinda crossover of HP and ASOIAF elements, set in space. I don't know where it's going, but it's definitely an exercise in worldbuilding. Mass Effect Alternate Earth Effects: Humanity didn't find the Mars Archives. They did not form the Systems Alliance. The superstates controlling Earth are at a fragile peace with one another, an expected state considering the ten Interplanetary Wars that have occurred between them. All the while, a revolution is brewing in the outer reaches of the Sol System, threatening to plunge the great powers into war once more. The Sol System is a powderkeg ready to blow, and the Charon Relay's activation and the subsequent revelation of alien life merely provided the spark it needed. Halo Recounts of the Great War: The Human-Covenant War is over. Hundreds of planets glassed, the human race battered, and chaos ravaging the Orion Arm. This is the new normal. Former Insurrectionists turned UNSC heroes, an infamous Doctor, the average marine and other survivors of the Human-Covenant War recount their experiences endured during Humanity's darkest hour. Finding Everest: On April 18, 2543, Vice Admiral Preston Jeremiah Cole went missing in action during a battle that saw over three hundred Covenant warships destroyed for smaller numbers of human ships- an event that had only occurred once on a scale that large. Seventeen years later, a new UNSC deep space radar facility on the outer reaches of human space detects the weak, fluctuating distress call of the legendary UNSC Everest, sparking a massive search for the hero that bought the human race time they did not have. At least, that's what Operation Tenzing was to many humans. But to Diana Cole, it's personal. A hunt for the man who may be the only family she has left...her father. A Rant, About ASoIAF/GoT Fan Theories Some of the adherents of RL=J are a funny bunch. The theory is actually sound- in fact, it’s basically canon-waiting-to-be-confirmed. The annoying bit is where they assume both parties elope because tHeY wUV EAcH oTHeR. Lyanna is either an idiot or a victim. Rhaegar is either an idiot or a rape-y idiot. All of the love-story theorists somehow keep forgetting that Rhaegar was married at the time, with 2 kids, and that he was 7 years older than Lyanna...who was either 14 or 15. (The most common defense to this- ‘oh, Targs can practice polygamy’- is not valid, like at all. You don’t revive a tradition that died out centuries ago and is proscribed by every relevant faith in the Kingdoms. So, no, Jon is still going to be a bastard no matter how you slice it.) Besides, even if Rhaegar and Lyanna did marry, and Elia Martell was stupid enough to give her blessing (as some fan theories go), what do you think would have happened when Jon was born? It’s bad enough if Jon was born female- the Iron Throne is implied to use agnatic-cognatic succession, meaning male preference. This just pisses off Dorne. (And leaves the door open for a future male born from RL, but that's besides the point) No, consider if Jon was born male, like in canon. You get 2 claimants to the throne, supported by 2 different regions. Aegon with Dorne, Jon with the North. Sure, Aegon is older, but by a year. Jon would come with the backing of the North and the Riverlands, with both the Vale and the Stormlands leaning more towards him than Aegon. He can also marry, meaning that at least the Reach or the West will flip to him as soon as that happens. So yes, even if the fan theory of ‘polygamy-marriage’ holds true, you’re still set for a civil war. Which only proves that Rhaegar was a colossal fucking idiot. In one single act, Rhaegar stops short of declaring war on the North and the Stormlands, as well as pissing off Dorne (you know, the place his wife is from?). The North will stick to the kidnapping story, no matter if it’s truth or fiction, because there’s no proof to the contrary and that’s the story that they can capitalize on. The same goes for the Stormlands. If the Crown Prince doesn’t realize that those two kingdoms are closely tied to the Vale, then he’s an idiot. Fosterings aren’t kept secret. Add onto the arranged marriages between the North and the Riverlands- and yes, these predate the fucking tourney- and that’s half the kingdoms aligned against you. It’s like he wanted to get his chest cavity smashed in by a warhammer. And frankly, he deserved it. ‘Oh but rOBeRt iS An UsURpEr’- excuse me, how the fuck do you think the Seven Kingdoms were formed in the first place? The king is flat out insane and the crown prince is either an idiot-rapist or borderline-idiot levels of insane. The ruling family is more inbred than the Habsburgs. Do you realize how hard that is to achieve? Yes, Robert is a shit king. That doesn’t make overthrowing House Killing the Targ children is morally grey, from a consequentialist point of view. If you consider the odds of another war sprouting up, then yes, killing them is absolutely the right thing to do. Wipe out the claimants, and there’s no chance of the realm being split apart and killing thousands (more likely, tens or hundreds of thousands). I mean, sure they could have been sent to the Wall, but that’s not much more merciful is it? The one sticking point is that it was needlessly brutal. And funny enough, most of the people railing against the whole ‘Targ children did not deserve to die’ point also wholeheartedly support the whole ‘Cersei-and-Jaime’s-incest-babies must all die or be sent to the Wall’. Which really, is hypocritical, since the only difference between Targ incest babies and Lannister incest babies is that the latter are literally bastards. And if you pull out that ‘Joffrey was a cruel evil dick’, I’d counter that Viserys was just as bad, only not in a position of power. |
