After the official that came to arrest the Norwegian and his team left and the students agents dispersed, Chuck went back to the library. He didn't know why, but after seeing his name on the list as a potential agent, then sneakily watching the video before Sarah took it for evidence, he felt like saying goodbye to the people who sent him on a tailspin four years ago.
He got to a table at the end of the library, almost out of the way, and pull up a chair and sat at the table. He and Jill spent so much time together there, at first studying, then later, after their relationship progressed to that point, making out, even having sex there. He got to their table, different than the one they shared with Bryce, and just sat at his usual place. He could see a younger Chuck playing footsie with Jill. Taking her hand in his and caressing it and having her reciprocate. He never knew how sensitive his palm was till those halcyon days when he was so in love; the sun and moon rose and set by the time he got to spend together with her. They would keep at it until one of them would give in and drag the other behind the shelf where there was a little alcove with a bench that, if they keep the noise at a minimum, they could canoodle without getting caught.
Perversely Chuck got up and went to the alcove determined to torture himself thoroughly, praying he wouldn't come face to face with this year's Chuck and Jill, sat on the bench there. Luck on his side, it was quite empty. He sat there, on the bench that was put there conveniently for the amorous couples that came before, and after him, and probably tandem of them, and put his hand on where they had put their initials, as had numerous others couples. He wonders how many like them didn't survive, and how many did. It was then the voice of Sarah was heard calling him. He got up, not keen on her finding him here and instead went to the table further up that the three of them used, before answering her.
'I'm here!'
She came to him a moment later, having not been that far.
Sarah slows down upon seeing him seated on 1 of the tables. She approached and took a seat opposite him.
'You disappeared?'
'I feel like taking a trip through memory lane after watching that recording.'
'And? Was it a good trip?'
'And you are now seating on the Bryce/Chuck/Jill table where we, between exams, plotted word domination, how to end hunger and illness, and the bare bones of the company we would build the three of us together. See here's our initial with the slogan the three musketeers! Which I really thought we were. They went along with it when all along they were laughing behind my back.'
'No! Chuck, you can't know that?'
'Why not? You saw the recording just like I did. He thought me weak, and gullible, the perfect patsy. So much, he did it once, and it apparently wasn't enough because four years later he did it again!'
'Chuck, he cared! Maybe in a very convoluted way, but he cared. Look at what you have been through in the months since you have been working for us? Can you honestly say you would have coped well if you had been enrolled four years ago?'
'Yes, he cared so much that he waited four years just to make sure everyone forgot my name, then got me in the same trouble he supposedly went out of his way to get me out of. I feel the love!'
Taking his hands, she answers him:
'If you had enrolled four years ago, or even if the team dispatched to apprehend you was not me and Casey, you would not still be in California, never mind in Echo Park living with your sister. You heard us when we first found out. Their first place was the bunker, which would have been in a rural town as far away from where you're used to as they possibly could. That means the Midwest or if you were lucky the east coast. Even then it would be the northern east coast, to take anywhere that could be familiar to you than someone who knows you could use to track you. Yes, he couldn't control who would be dispatched, but you and he lucked out in this. You, by keeping your life as close to normal as we possibly can and him, by still posthumously protecting you by proxy.'
'Thanks!'
'My pleasure! Ready to go meet Awesome and Ellie?' She said as she got up and pulled him out of his chair.
'Oh God, I forgot we came with them to the game!' He groaned while following behind her.
'Yes, well put on your, I just took my new girlfriend on a tour of my old hunts to make out with her, mask!' She riposted while turning to look at him.
Two days later her phone rang, and she answered it at the second ring.
'Walker, secure.'
'Please wait for the director's call.' Said the voice at the end of the line. Not a moment later, a masculine voice was heard.
'Walker, you asked for a call?'
'Yes sir. I believe you reviewed the recording found the professor already?'
'Yes, I did.
'I would like to use the one concerned to give the asset a boon for the good job he had has been doing for us.'
'Do you believe it would help us in our control of him?'
'Yes sir.'
'Then do what is necessary.'
'Yes sir!'
Three days later, after getting Ellie assent and approval, Sarah organized a romantic dinner for two in Chuck room.
'This is a surprise,' he said upon entering the room and discovering its new setup.
'I asked Ellie for help to surprise you, I hope it is, OK?' She said coming to him and kissing him softly on the lips.
'This is more than OK. What's the occasion?'
'How about the fact it's been three months and a thank you for the good job you've been doing?'
'Wow, you shouldn't have! And why here and not out?'
'Well, the fact that I want privacy as I have some news for you also? -It's OK it's good news. - You'll want to share with Ellie immediately after, I figured better here than across town.'
'My room is private now?'
'As of the moment I came in, surveillance inside of the apartment has been down for the night. Shall we eat?'
'We shall. My lady?' He said taking the chair out for her.
'Thank you, kind sir!'
They had a lovely dinner, and despite Chuck needling her to find out what news she had to share, she remained mum, after the meal they shared one dessert.
'Now I have been patient. What's the surprise?'
'Well, she said, putting a binder on the table in front of her. After the whole debacle with Fleming, I and the Directors thought you deserved a boon to show that it's not all bad working with us. So, we arranged for you to finally get this,' she concluded pushing the binder toward him.
'What's this?' He asked afraid to open it.
'Open it!' She answered without giving him a hint.
'Ok, ok!' He said, smiling at her. He opened it and stared speechless at the documents inside.
'We can't erase the last four years, Chuck, but can try to remedy a few travesties, particularly when they were made in our name without our consent.'
Wordlessly he took her hand and dragged her on his lap and kissed her fiercely, she answered in kindand their lips duel for dominance. Their hands were not idle and were caressing the other through their clothes. Their mouths were leading each other to a dance only they knew the cadence to. She would lead first suckling his tongue then his lips while grinding on his lap, then he'd take over and do the same until the need to breathe would cause them to stop. He trailed his lip on her jaw to her earlobe, he kissed and sucked it. From there, Chuck got to her neck, kissing and suckling, changing side and repeating his step. They started kissing again, as her gasp was getting loud enough to surely be heard from the hallway. They each pick up the tempo buckling violently on each other to create the fiction to maximize their pleasure. One of his hands was kneading and squeezing a breast, the other was doing the same to her ass. Then suddenly, to their surprise and shared embarrassments, they came together. They kissed again, slowly, tenderly, smiling all the while, for Chuck he hoped this was the end of their will they/won't they, and Sarah was thinking ruefully that she can't keep him at arms length anymore and she have to dive in both feet in. Then Sarah went to the bathroom to get cleaned up while Chuck changed in his room, then went in after she was done. Then, they went together and presented the diploma -sans the check- to Ellie, who squealed loud enough to be heard a street over.
For any of you, I chatted with this past year about this, you know how I disdained how it took so long for something to be done about Stanford. The fact that this oversight was not resolved till S2 in the show is a travesty in my opinion, & I cheered loudly for any authors in their work who give a solution on how it could have been taken care of earlier. This is my own solution, as a nod for all those writers, I won't elaborate on mine. If you want a sample of how it could have gone, Steelejay's Sarah vs Asking Chuck Out would be an excellent example. There are others of course, but he is the one that jumps out at me.
