Hello my fellow dragons/mythologies and TODAY my friends we are exploring who I consider to be my favorite characters in RWBY! Horah!
Now I felt as if I been a bit...hard in my past two posts of the series even despite my praise in the beginning of my Volume 8 review, so I decided to let everyone know in detail as to why I like certain characters in this series that I believe I touched upon briefly but not in detail.
Surprisingly enough I didn't...really have many pure dislikes in this series. I know shocking but other than some characters-*ahem* Yang-I never really hated most of the roster...mostly neutral or else I just found some characters neat or actually enjoyed them. So that was a surprise to me, and in turn actually made this list somewhat difficult to do ngl...but did it anyways!
But because of how much characters I like there was bound to be a few that didn't make the list, so I would like to take the time to give 5 quick Honorable Mentions to those who I would most likely include in a top 15 list...which this can be seen as thinking back-
Also I would like to point this out...*Ahem*
My tastes in characters might be different from yours, so there's a good chance a character you love may not be on my list or even mentions. In that case refrain from being a dick cause I know some people might think on writing something in response, but do whatever cause its not like I care. For the others, I would actually like to know your thoughts on my list and would like to know yours, it would be nice to see the reasoning's you have for your own favorite characters.
Also for the list we are going from worst to best...just to clarify how I'm doing this. Also SPOILERS if you care about them.

Honorable Mentions:
Honorable Mention 5: (Lie Ren)
Ren is on here first for the pure fact...well he's just so chill.
Guy was always there vibing and living his best life, and single handily has one of the best scenes in the ENTIRE show with his rant. Seriously, Ren could have actually been top 10 if he wasn't essentially bullied back into the hive mind for having a different opinion and a sudden Semblance evolution which honestly wasn't even...what's the word "needed" I guess.
But yeah overall i just like this guy, not much else to add here.
Honorable Mention 4: (Whitley Schnee)
Whitley is a fucking champion I swear.
While everyone else is just drinking tea as a literal invasion of the big bad goes on and their friend is existing injured as fuck, Whitley being the upstanding guy he is puts aside his treatment by his sister and calls up the family helper and doctor to help THEIR friend. THEN he decides to use his families resources to help the people instead of complaining on how unfair it is, and THEN sends out Schnee ships to Mantle to evacuate them.
Safe to say Whitley was one of the biggest players in that entire war, even more than most of the "heroes".
Mind you that was just Volume 8, my boy did this in a whole Volume and was important. Also imma say something that a ton of people might not get so here's a quick examination of Whitley really quickly.
Has it ever occurred that Whitley is the youngest of the Schnee family with no Aura or Semblance and maybe, just maybe, he went through the same shit as Weiss and Winter and debatably worse than them because of their father having more of a hold on him because of learning from his mistakes with Winter and Weiss? You know, one who left to the military and wants practically nothing to do with the family outside of Weiss and Weiss who hates the company running and was a whole bitch for a good portion of the series?
Also for those about to say how Weiss said Whitley always hated them MUST I also say there was never an indication of Whitley doing that and from his appearances always speaking to his sibling first? Or, ya know, Weiss has been stuck up and in her own mind for a long ass time and hearing her side only doesn't really account to much unless we actually see it as Willow-somehow who is known to watch her family-outright says Whitley's been through shit himself? OR, the best thing, points he's actually seen tense around his dad without any need for so and quite possibly can't do shit since, as said, he has nothing to support him and event hen he just wants to take the company into whatever.
Not to mention people hate this boy for being a "brat" but umm...sometimes that's how siblings act towards each other. Hell he didn't even do any terrible but just be snarky, and you can't act like Weiss who everyone defends is perfect as in her earlier appearances was a bitch, flaunted her families name like hell, was a bit stuck up, was actually racist towards Fanus if you remember compared to someone who's younger and was just a bit snarky.
So does he deserve to have a sword pointed at hi face just for a comment and him being reasonably upset that the one person he ever got attention from from the looks of it was taken away despite how bad it must've been on him? Just a thought~
Whew boy was that a rant! Just wanted to get that out for those who dislike Whitley for his "actions" he had. Seriously people tend to forget he also most likely went through the same shit as Weiss and can't do next to nothing about it but live it out his own way.
Anyways that was a quick Whitley analysis. Yeah I just like this guy for no other reason than I just like him in the story; does the job, actually can be sympathized looking into it, and is basically overal a really rounded character.
Sure his "redemption" could've been better but hey, Volume 9 can hopefully improve...it won't but a guy can dream.
Yeah, anyways onto the next-
Honorable Mention 3: (Ruby Rose)
...Imma be honest I have no idea what to say here.
Ruby is a character that regressed and got character assassinated to all hell during the last two Volumes, kept so many secrets despite literally not liking Ozpin for doing what he did-that poor soul-, got pissed when her and her team's actions came back to bite them in the ass and blamed everyone BUT themselves, then would sit and drink tea in a manor for most of Volume 8, doomed Atlas and Mantle to hell by sending them to VACUO and being a big part as to hwy Atlas fell, did the villain's job basically, and gives so much heroic speeches it puts Naruto to shame.
...But tell me why the fuck do I like her so much.
No seriously even after everything I just mentioned I can find reasons overall I still like her when in reality I should HATE her character and wouldn't even put her in top 25 characters. But yet I can't fully hate her.
Volume's 1-3 Ruby was fun as fuck and I liked her, first half Volume 6 Ruby was an actual character I loved, she has a great design which only really improved over time to the point I would say she's the second most attractive girl in the series, speaking of design its amazing, I find her bubbly personality adorable, and her cookie and weapon quirk also adorable when brought up.
Really in total if it wasn't for second half of Volume 6 and Volume's 7 and 8 Ruby might've actually been on this list, maybe even top 7. Like she's badly written and in desperate need of development which I hope she gets in Volume 9 but at the current standings she's actually alright to me.
No joke when I came to the realize I liked Ruby so much I was shocked. Actually I guess the question now is where does she place on the best girl chart since that's all I need to go about now-

Honorable Mention 2: (Taiyang Xiao-Long)
Okay now imagine we got a guy who banged both the MILF queen of the series Raven herself and Summer, trained his daughters, picked on Qrow a bit, and is a down to earth and actually nice dad?
...Why the fanfics make him such a terrible person is confusing but regardless this guy right here is an inspiration!
Sure he implanted Yang into Raven but hey, no one's perfect.
I have this theory next time we see this man he's gonna go into a boxing match and start to windmill kicking some baddies and just be an absolute beast. Lets see this man go in!
Yeah this was pretty much a meme reason, but I just like this guy for no reason lol
Honorable Mention 1: (Arthur Watts)
Now for the FINAL Honorable Mention we got the God Mustachio himself Arthur Watts.
Really what can I really say about him? An actually good and competant villain, has a good fight and one of the most badass in the series, flows off others really well, has one of the best moments in the series with him telling off Cinder, has a great design and acts fun. Really I summed it about up, he's just really good.
Sad Cinder's a petty fuck and killed him, but honestly I think him dying in the Atlas arc fit weirdly enough. Don't like how he died, but its fits.
Overall, Watts is just fun and enjoyable to watch.

Honestly I can't even lie this next portion was the hardest part of this entire list. The top 4 was easy, but after that everything was switching to all hell to the point characters in this Honorable Mention section was on the list at some point, hell I would say for numbers 10-7 anyone of them could switch places due to me not really knowing where to put them above the other as each have certain aspects I really love or parts where they're meh. It was difficult, so the rankings right here isn't...full definite so keep that in mind as any of these can change by tomorrow probably.
Anyways onto the list!
Top 10:
Number 10: (Adam Tarus)
Now here's the thing about Adam...I still like him.
I got comments after comments on how he's the worst, how's an abuser, how he's a psychopathic freak and shit but honestly most of that shit isn't shown and half the things the writers says either isn't put in the show which SHOULD be there or contradicts stuff so I'm taking the "abuser" part with a grain of salt...
...ESPECIALLY when Blake and even the people on the show said he was more of a mentor to Blake who lost his way as time went on.
No matter what the show does, what the writers and FNDM says I will like Adam and consider him a character I like and a character that could've been done better.
Actually on that train Adam outside of Ruby. No joke this man could actually beef with all of Team RWBY, Raven, Ironwood, all the Schnees, All the Fanus, Sun, Cinder, Salem, Roman, and really anyone. Adam could've either had so many storylines it was ridiculous or just one big one and it would involve everyone just based on his character.
Still pissed we never got Adam vs Sun or Adam vs Raven btw, would've done so much for the three.
Anyways Adam-at least Pre Volume 4- has a really great design, a fucking hype and cool Semblance at least looks wise cause its explanation still makes no sense-
(I mean it as him needing the sword to use it, which I find is dumb and if they just said he can transfer stored energy into any object he holds would've made much more sense)
-and really was a threat when you saw him. Sure he was granted the short end of the stick by writers who clearly hated him, characters that dogged on him, no backstory and the one we got was shit and weird as him as a kid "deserved" it idfk, and a terrible final fight. But regardless...I still really like Adam.
Not the best, but enough to make this list.
Number 9: (Neopolitan)
Ooh boy is this one a rough one.
Ok imma list off why I have Neo on this list right. First off she's best girl, secondly her Semblance is amazing, third she has some of the best designs in the show and is probably the most attractive female int his damn series imo, fourth her fighting style's fun as hell, and fifth her potential for fights and stories is surprisingly big.
But the problem is...She's just become dumber for no reason.
The biggest offender is her not attempting in the slightest to kill Ruby despite the numerous opportunities to do so in and out of the series, and her reliance on Cinder. Like Neo, you are one of the most broken characters in the show, I'm pretty sure you can get away with Ruby's murder if you play your cards right which I expect you to do. NOT TO MENTION her latest fights where out of the...three she had since Volume 7 2/3 was shit for different reasons I have already went into in other books.
But other than that I still really like Neo. Outside of all the L's she been tasking whenever she was just existing she was fun, such as when she was floating to the ship. Hell she has some of the best facial expressions in the show, top 3 at least.
And just because of her previous Volume's doesn't mean overall she was bad. In the...5 Volume's she was in and even them not much she is still great to me despite my problems.
Best girl, you are safe.
Number 8: (Oscar Pines)
Oscar Main Character Pines had CARRIED Volume 8 on his back like holy God did he do everything.
After this dude got shot he helped a small group...not much but okay. Then he gets bodied by the Hound and taken to Salem, not good looks but it gets better! Then after that he would proceed to get folded but as he get his bones and organs crushed he converts TWO of Salem's forces-arguable some of the most valuable-to his team, kills Salem and the whale, holds Emerald and makes her useful as well as make sure she isn't harmed during her stay, then warns of the consequences of fucking with the relic, THEN like a protagonist once everything goes to shit tries to help UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE-
Safe to say Oscar did a ton.
Sure he had shit development that was off screened a ton, but other than that you gotta admire him. Boy took so much punishment for a war he was basically forced into by both good and bad people, probably had no one like him for him a good portion of the time and mainly for Ozpin, is the one asking the questions, is the one trying to keep everyone in check and see all sides, bro Oscar is the main character the hell lol.
This little farm boy needs a nap after all this, he deserves it.
Number 7: (Tyrian Callows)
He's insane and fun. That's all I got to say about him.
Reminds me a bit of the Joker, and I consider the Joker one of the greatest villains in fiction personally so yeah.
Number 6: (Raven Brawen)
Ok Raven is here because its simple...I like Raven.
Good design, lots of potential, a Semblance that FITS her theme in both an ironic and unironic ways, THIGHS, and a cool weapon. Really just based on all of this and the fact I actually do like her personality and feel like, ya know, she was right in the end also plays a role in my liking to her.
ALSO time to disprove the fact she doesn't care about Yang for the most part, cause I already can tell there might be some comments on this so lets get this over with...
Umm Raven's home for probably half her life was the Bandit Camp so that is a place she's very attached to, hell the reason she went to Beacon was because of the Tribe; hell maybe she was raised differently and unlike Qrow grew up different and didn't want to abandon the place she grew up in, which also grew into her philosophy. Then add onto the fact that instead of taking Yang to this Tribe of God knows what she left her with Tai so she could be raised with care and stuff, and then proceeding to watch over in secret judging by some of the scenes we have gotten...THEN we got her Semblance which literally takes her to people she cares for and what a surprise Qrow, Tai, and Yang are included hmm.
Doesn't even help she doesn't really...lie to Yang during her time. The most she does is give half truths or doesn't answer, but at that point I'm chalking that up to writing because for some reason we still don't know why she left despite the entirety of Volume 5 to tell us why she went to get the groceries and never came back. No joke most assume it was Salem despite no real explanation and her thoughts were just trying to keep her daughter-and by extension her friends-away from one of the top 5 beings on Remnant.
As for her being a coward...Okay lets say you learned all about Salem and how she is immortal and won't die no matter many times you kill her and has the stamina to continue fighting, has magic which is supposedly top tier in the verse, and has an army of Grimm at her disposal? Now, do you BLAME her for not wanting to go and fight? Cause I can't tell most of the people who say she's a coward for this wouldn't want to go near the action or help at all.
So in the end basically she does care for Yang, she's not as much if not at all a coward as people make her out to be. You can say anything else but these two points you gotta give up, there's evidence against it.
Soo...Yeah i like Raven, plain and simple.
Number 5: (Ironwood)
Did you know that when Ironwood was 13 he saw a Beowolf and proceeded to outbox it AND its friends with no help and only his fists? True story.
Now here's my thing with Ironwood...Despite how much they FUCKED him in Volume 8 the other Volumes of him doing good still outshines that regard-
1. Man's brought in an army to protect Vale and make sure no one died and couldn't tell he was gonna get hacked and when it did was willing to accept full punishment and death
2. Actually gave the students a choice to leave and even told them no one would blame them if he did
3. Helped Weiss during her mishap, and even gave her advice
4. Proceeded to do his damn best to help the people of Atlas and Mantle despite getting lied to and betrayed
5. Lost an arm to Watts to show he was willing to sacrifice himself for the people
6. Used whatever cards he had left to make a play that was the best option they had at the moment with the lies, betrayal, and information that Salem was gonna be here soon
7. WENT TO WAR and was organizing the entire thing.
And those are just 7, there's probably way more. Even if you wanna say "That's how dictators work" there's evidence both around people and by himself that contradict the HELL out of that claim. Man's just did his best despite all the bullshit he went through, and hell if he wasn't lied to and betrayed things would've worked out well, cause Team RWBY's plan was just his but worse and resulted int he big bad winning and them fucking over the people of Atlas and Mantle.
Okay now to address the elephant in the room you guys need to stop the "He was shown to be a villain throughout the series" just because the writers said that because of the pure FACT there was zero hints until Volume 8 where he shot someone in cold blood...and even then you could argue he was under fucking stress from learning Clover just died, Penny is gone, the relics are gone, and Salem is almost here. Hell even when she gets here he doesn't go into cartoon villain until she's defeated and the writers clearly want him bad because too many sided with him.
Doesn't help because no one even gave him alternatives and just berated him. Hell for the Martial Law Winter suggested that and with the tensions, murders, and thieving's I can't blame him for agreeing. Hell with the robots they were there to protect the people...
...Who beat the fuck out of them randomly and riot that attracted Grimm...yeah thinking back they brought the attack on themselves.
Also I don't count his Semblance as canon but if it is it makes everyone worse since no one tried to reason(except Oscar) that this PTSD ridden war general quite possibly can't control himself and clearly doesn't want to fight against Winter or Penny, who toss him asides...well Penny later but you get the point,
I will await the debates, but Ironwood is a good guy until mid Volume 8 and was someone I enjoyed watching and still like. Sue me.
Number 4: (Sun Wukong)
Sun is probably one of the most unjustifiably hated characters in this series and I swear that comes from Bumblebee shippers who eats expired chalk all day.
Call him a stalker? They forget he literally went to help Blake because he thought she went to fight the Fang, and stayed to help a friend...and because he was in too deep. Hell you kinda forget that Blake treated him pretty...bad for someone just trying to help her. Case in point the hitting.
Sun is just a stand up guy. Was fun, had an awesome combat system and a fun ass weapon, has some of the best fights in the series, positive as fuck and likes helping his friends out, based on a character that's cool to me, has a nice design, and is all around a good guy.
There's not much else to say, Sun is just an all around fun character that I can't wait to see come back.
Number 3: (Pyrrha Nikos)
Aye Pyrrha has finally made it onto this list and imma say it...I basically like everything about her.
Great design, fun weapon and Semblance, actually had development, her relationship was actually pretty neat, and was overall a good character.
She was also fucking adorable and had probably the saddest death in the entire series, she was made to die and when she did made me feel some type of way. I respect that.
I mean what else can I say that hasn't been said about her before? Pyrrha is my number 3.
Number 2: (Roman Torchwick)
They call him Roman Dripwick.
Roman I swear has the MOST drip and swag out of anyone on RWBY and until there's someone that matches Ruby and Neo level outfits or Ironwood's Ironwood then no one is coming close to matching this Clockwork Orange looking fuck.
Man's had no Semblance and was out here boxing super powered people and did quite fucking well; I mean...who else managed to block ALL of Sun's Gunchucks bullets and hits without any real damage. I swear that scene with him and the Fang at that area where they got jumped by Blake, Sun, Ruby and Penny is one of the best in the series by far.
Which is another thing to add, with Roman there's never really anything boring with him. His charisma, presence, and flow just works with himself by his lonesome and with others, and hell had a ton of amazing lines and quips whenever he was on screen.
Hell even his rather anticlimactic death was fine. Irony at its finest from the guy who gave a whole speech on the world only to eat eaten after his talk on survival, hell I don't think anyone even expected him to go out like that.
Roman was just a fucking joy, cane twirling and all.
Best Character: Mercury Black
OH GOD PLAY THE SPONGEBOB ENLARGING MUSIC BECAUSE THE BOY IS HERE!
The boy Mercury just has everything I swear. Simple yet cool design, personality just flows great, backstory that makes you want to see more of him and HOW he did what he did, robotic attachments that actually work well and is done better than SOME people, and is an overall badass yet got somewhat of a care nature to him...at least towards Emerald.
Honest to God i thought I'd have more to say about him, but I just enjoy everything about him more than I do anyone else in the series. He's just an amazing character to me and for the simplest reasons he's my favorite character.
...I just hope they don't pull an Emerald or Neo on him.
And that my friends is my list!
Honestly towards the end it just got easier and easier as said but tbh I think it was because I just had less and less problems and liked just about every aspect of them. Honestly the top 4 I really have no problems with and really hope they don't get screwed int he Volume's to come.
