"Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite find of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, by products, of a forgotten past. Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful. But he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness, creatures of destruction. The creatures of Grimm set their sights on man and all of his creations.

These forces clashed and it seems the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void. However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds.

This power was appropriately named, "Dust". Natures wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness and in the shadow's absence, came strength, civilisation and most importantly, life. But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die. And when they are gone… darkness will return."

A bullhead lands on the landing pad, leading to a large castle. The bullhead looks as if it could hold tens of people in its silver frame. A boy stepping out of the Bullhead's newly opened hatch. He wore a purple; winter fur hood jacket, straightening it on his body. His pants had a purple belt, the pants themselves black and leading to green and black shoes. The boy pulls down the fur edged hood, revealing his slightly above shoulder length hair. The hair had been dyed purple halfway down to the ends. The hair also seeming very nicely styled and flowed almost as if it were a river in the wind.

On his back was an axe with a long, metal, mechanical hilt coloured purple. The axe head being silver with yellow at the sharp edge. Just below the axe head was the leaver action pump to what would be a rifle. His eyes were also a shiny yellow. All that combined with his looks, he appeared as if he were a young man who just got out of the snow. Like he had been walking around and trying to collect wood with the axe on his back in the frigid temperatures.

After taking a long inhale, he breaths out a satisfied sigh, a gentle smile on his face, "By Oum… This place is just so… gorgeous."

In front of him was a large elegant castle of sorts, but this wasn't just a normal castle, this was Beacon Academy, the top school to train Hunters and Huntresses in fighting the threat of Grimm and any other danger to the public and peace.

This boy was Ellis Violet. An 18-year-old, gentlemanly Huntsman In Training. Like many other people this time of the year, Ellis had started his year in the academy of his dreams. Ready have his own adventures in Beacon with a group of his own. A team.

"I just know that this is just where you dreamed I'd be…" Ellis keeps a satisfied look on his face with closed eyes, feeling the wind brushing against him.

Only for a small explosion go off a short distance from him, catching his attention. Ellis's expression stayed the same as he's blown by a slightly bigger gust of wind coming from the explosions direction. "That is… unexpected."

The new Huntsman in training calmly opens his eyes and over to the source of the noise, seeing two girls arguing while covered in black soot. One was clearly younger that the other. Just as Ellis made his way over, he saw the two a little clearer.

The younger one had black hair with red on the ends, she strangely had silver eyes and wore a black dress with red hood, cape hybrid. She almost looked as if she were in the forest hunting for animals with how the outfit was formed. Though, she looked neater than anything. A high impact sniper rifle on her back. Ellis had always had a slight interest in weapons.

The other girl he recognised easily, Ellis softly smiling at the sight of her. She was an old friend. One he hadn't seen for a long time. By his count, eight years. Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee dust compony. She wore a white and blue dress with red inside of the collar that reached up to the halfway point of her neck. Her long, tied up white hair shining in the light of the sun.

She looked like royalty.

Her weapon, Myrtenaster, holsted at her side. It was a rapier with a revolver type ammo holder for dust just above the hilt.

Just as Ellis has snapped out of his thoughts, busy thinking about the near snow-white girl ahead of him, the red girl snapped at Weiss, "I said I was sorry, princess!"

Ellis held up his hand, holding it to his chest and bowing gently, "It's heiress, actually." Both the girls turned to see Ellis standing there, Weiss' eyes immediately going from anger to shock within the same second, "It is… inexplainable how good to see you again, Weiss." The new Beacon student straightens back, turning his attention towards the girl in red, "But, yes, she's the heiress to the Schnee dust company. One of, if not the largest producers of dust on Remnant."

Weiss tries to regain her composure. Her voice shaky but still able to help her keep her more, for lack of a better term, spoiled tone, "Finally, some recognition." Weiss takes a moment but eventually sighs, rubbing one of her arms as she speaks again, her tone more awkward than before, "And as much as I wish I didn't have to say this… it's good to see you too, Ellis. It's been far too long…" Weiss had a small smile, showing that she did care.

A girl wearing a large black bow on top of her long black hair walks next to Ellis while picking up a vile of dust that was on the floor. She had a black vest with a single button done up on the front, underneath is a while, sleeveless undershirt with a black high neck, she also had white shorts and low-heeled boots and black stockings that go purple near the bottom.

Her outfit was more rouge like. Something that could be worn as if she were a type of thief looking to get away in the dead of night without ever being seen or heard. She spoke up calmly, "The Schnee dust company is also the company infamous for its controversial labour forces, along with their… questionable business partners."

"WHA-! How dare you!" Weiss walks up and snatches the vial from the girl's hand. All the softness from her small statement to Ellis before leaving as she stomps away in a huff.

Ellis holds his hand out partially but sighs and puts it back down sadly, realising Weiss was no longer in the mood to talk.

The girl in red looks over at Weiss as the heiress storms off, yelling towards her, "I promise I'll make it up to you!" She then sighs, her words having fallen upon deaf ears. Or Weiss decided to ignore her.

The girl in the hood turns around, trying to keep a smile on her face as she speaks again, "So what ar-…"

Her face almost immediately going to a soft frown, Ellis also turning to where the bowed girl was standing to see she had disappeared. The purple haired boy looking impressed as he turns to try and catch a glimpse of the now missing girl in black. She was nowhere in sight. "She's good at that."

The smaller girl then slumps down on her knees and sighs sadder than her previous one, "Welcome to Beacon…"

Ellis looks at her confused before moving closer and holding out a hand for her, "You're not alone just yet." He flashes a friendly smile.

She smiles gently at him and takes his hand; glad she was being helped up. Not much used to other human interaction outside of her immediate friends and family, she gives a slight blush, "Sorry… I'm not really having a great time so far. I'm Ruby Rose by the way!"

Ellis moves back half a step and gives a gently bow, his hand on his heart, "It's lovely to meet you, Ruby Rose, I'm Ellis. Ellis Violet."

Ruby gives a surprised jolt as his bow and almost imitates him with her own, "It's nice to meet you too, Ellis!" The girl standing back straight with an awkward smile on her face.

Ellis also stands straight and looks at her questioningly, "I don't mean to sound rude, or even anything of the sort, but you appear to be a little too… young… to be at Beacon."

Ruby crosses her arms and keeps a timid expression on her face, her tone still ever awkward, "I was… uh… offered to be let in early because I… well… I helped stop a dust store robbery… Coming to Beacon was my dream so I obviously accepted." She flashed a happy smile, Ruby seemed very timid at times. But it was easy to tell she would normally be a very energetic person. The way the weapon on her back looks she must be an incredibly good fighter. It was fairly big for someone as small as her, so it would explain why she's here despite being younger.

An unknown, male voice then speaks behind the two, "Hi there."

Ellis and Ruby look and see a blonde haired boy next to them, he had a sheathed sword in a hilt on the side, he had a white chest plate with some more armour dotted along his arms, he also had a black hoodie with red on the inside and blue pants leading to black boots with white tips. He was almost like a knight with the small armour pieces but was far more like he belonged in just a normal, more casual setting.

Ruby looks at him for a second before pointing at him quizzically, "Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?"

After the encounter with the new boy, Ruby, Ellis, and the blonde boy, now named "Vomit boy" by Ruby, were walking around. Vomit boy was trying to defend himself from when he had apparently thrown up, speaking upset "I'm just saying that motion sickness is a much more common thing than people let on!"

Ruby puts up her hands defensively, "Alright, I'm sorry, Vomit boy is just what came to mind."

"Yeah? How would you like it if I called you… Uh… Crater face!" Jaune pointing and looking her directly in the eyes, slanted as if he were trying to intimidate her.

Ruby, looks at him embarrassed, holding her hands down to her sides with a frustrated tone in her voice, "That explosion was on accident!"

Ellis moves between the two, separating them by pushing them apart gently, "Alright you two, I think that's more than enough arguing."

Jaune gives a small, defeated grunt, stepping away from her and walking back to be on the other side of Ellis, "Well, my names Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls of the tongue. Lady's love it."

Ellis and Ruby look at him with unamused stare until Ellis speaks up, "I somehow feel like you're not speaking truthfully…"

Jaune looks at them, slightly upset at the boys rebuttal, "They will! …At least I hope so…"

Ellis just smiles, putting his hand on Jaune's shoulder and speaking positively, "Maybe one day, Jaune." Ellis then moves his hand away from Jaune and they continue walking. A few seconds going by before the purple haired Ellis speaks up again, a slightly chipper tone, "So, in order to stir up a more light-hearted conversation, what weapons do you two have?"

Ruby looks a happy as she brings out her weapon compact, red, weapon, which turns into a large scythe, it was nearly double her size in height. Only about half her height bigger. "I have this thing. It's called Crescent Rose!"

Jaune looks at it in amazement, "Woah, is that a scythe?"

"It's also a customizable high impact sniper rifle." Ruby keeps her smile on her face through her whole explanation.

Jaune looking, seeming to have no clue what she meant, "It's a wha…?"

Ellis looks at him smiling, a calm face plastered on his expression, "It is also commonly referred to, as a gun." Ellis looks at Crescent Rose keeping his calm smile, "It looks absolutely beautiful, Ruby."

Ruby blushes slightly and rubs the back of her head, "Aw, shucks! I thought I went overboard a little on the design when I made it."

Jaune looks at her surprised, "Wait a second, you made that?"

"Of course, I did, all the students at Signal forged their own weapons. Didn't you make yours?" Ruby looking at him confused.

Jaune places his hand on the hilt of his sword, "It's a hand me down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war. He called it Crocea Mors."

Ellis puts his hand on his chin and ponders for a second before saying, "It more sounds like it's a family heirloom to me. But that surely doesn't take away from its uniqueness."

Jaune looks down sad for a moment before Ruby speaks up, "Well I like it Jaune. Not many people have appreciation for the classics these days."

Jaune looks down at his sword saying, "Yeah… the classics."

"I'm sure your weapon is fine, Jaune. It's more than what you wield that makes the man. Do you have anything else you are able to use though?" Ellis' arms cross and one hand goes to his chin in a more thinking pose.

"Hm… Well." Jaune takes out his sword and his sheath turn into a shield, "My sheath can turn into a shield to defend myself." He closes the shield back into its sheath form, "And I can shrink it down if I get tired of carrying it."

Ruby looks at him with a confused face, "Won't it weigh the same?"

"Yeah…" Jaune puts his sword away and sighs, looking down.

Trying to lighten the mood Ruby looks at Ellis, "What about your weapon Ellis?"

Ellis smiles gently at her and places his hand on the hilt of his axe, taking it from his back and showing it to them, "It is an axe capable of turning into a long and short ranged repeater rifle. It can also change to a more shotgun style form of shot."

He switches the axe into its shotgun/repeater form and shows it off, it has a long stock, the stock being what the axe head switches to, and its barrel was also fairly long. The trigger and lever ready to reload the bullets as the boy would want, "I call it Everett."

Jaune looks at it interested while Ruby looks at it amazed, "That's so cool Ellis!"

Ellis smiles at her as she also smiles back, "Thanks, Rubes."

Ruby's body straightens as her face near instantly turns to a look of embarrassment, "Rubes?"

Ellis scratches the back of his neck awkward, "Well, I thought it would be a good nickname for you."

Ruby holds up her hands and waves them defensively, "Nononono- I just- I wasn't expecting you to call me that-…"

Ellis only gives a smile and a small nod, Jaune speaks up after the action, "Do either of you know where we're going?"

Ellis looks at him, pointing at Ruby, "I was following her."

"But I was following you." Ruby looks at Ellis, pointing at him,

Jaune looks down, weakly putting up his hands and pointing at both Ellis and Ruby, "I was following the both of you…"

Ruby and Ellis look down, Ellis humming to himself for a moment while Ruby mutters, "Oh poop…"

After a bit of roaming, Ruby, Jaune and Ellis entered the auditorium to listen to Beacons headmaster, Ozpin, give his beginning of the year speech.

"Hey, Ruby! here, I saved you a spot!" All the three then turn to see a girl with long bright blond hair and purple eyes facing them and Ruby, she wore a tan jacket baring her midriff, with golden brown piping and short, puffy sleeves with black cuffs housing two golden buttons.

She also wore a yellow crop top with a black fire emblem on it. On her arms appeared to be some yellow bracelets just above her brown and black fingerless gloves. She definitely looks as if she would have ridden a bike here, at least if Beacon wasn't restricted to bullhead landings for transportation to and from Vale.

Ruby points towards her with a smile, looking back to the others, "Oh, that's my sister. I got to go. I'll see you guy's later!"

Ruby keeps a smile while she runs over to her sister, leaving Ellis and Jaune where they were standing. Jaune, feeling dejected, looks down, "Where am I gonna find another nice, quirky girl to talk to…"

Ellis smiles and laughs slightly, facing towards Ruby and her sister while trying to speak to Jaune, "I wouldn't worry, Jaune. I'm sure theres plen-TY-!"

Ellis is suddenly interrupted by the Schnee heiress, Weiss, pulling him by the arm and away from Jaune, "Come with me!" For a girl her size and frame she's surprisingly strong.

Turning to a sad Jaune, Ellis mouths, "I'm sorry!" The boy continuing to be dragged by Weiss, "So, Weiss, I've been wondering about how you've been."

She continues facing forward while answering, Ellis unable to see the slightly upset expression on her face as the words exit her mouth, "Just… Less talking. More looking for the girl who blew me up."

Ellis, not even moving his legs as his feet are dragged against the floor, speaks up, wanting to know who she was talking about, "You mean Ruby?"

"I don't care what her name was- there she is!" Weiss' expression turning to irritation as she stomps up to Ruby and her sister. Still holding Ellis by his jacket sleeve and arm. "YOU."

Ruby turns around and sees who was speaking. Only to jump into her sister's arms in shock, crying out, "Oh, Oum, it's happening again!"

"You're lucky you didn't blow us off the side of the school!" Weiss points at her with her free hand.

Ruby's sister has a look of shock on her face as she drops Ruby out of her arms, "Oh my Oum, you really exploded."

Ruby gets up within an instant, facing her sister humiliated, "It was an accident!" She then looks back to Weiss drying to defuse the situation, "It was an accident."

Weiss wordlessly holds to her a pamphlet labelled "Dust for dummies", "The Schnee duct company is not responsible foranydamageorinjurysobtainedbyaSchneedustcompanyproduct."

"Uhh…" Ruby looks at her confused, a blank stare plastered on her face.

Weiss points at Ruby while still holding the pamphlet, "You really want to make this up to me?"

"Absolutely!" Ruby says obviously.

Weiss throws the pamphlet at her and it flutters to the ground gently. "Then read this and never speak to me again."

Ellis smiles nervously as he starts to speak, "Okay, I have the feeling the both of you started off on the wrong foot."

Everyone looks at him as Ruby's sister speaks up, "Yeah, why don't you guys just… start over?" She looks at Ellis, "Hey there, I'm yang by the way." She says with a wink at the end.

Ellis smiles at her, giving a little bow of his head, "Ellis… charmed." Weiss looking back and forth between the two with a fairly upset expression at their interaction.

Mostly Yang's wink.

"Great idea you two!" Ruby jumps in excitement as she looks at Yang and Ellis, Weiss glaring back towards her after a moment of doing the same to Yang. Ruby coughs, preparing to speak, "Hello, Weiss, I'm Ruby. Ruby Rose. Wanna hang out? We could go shopping for school supplies?"

Weiss rolls her eyes and speaks in an obviously sarcastic tone, "Yeah. We could paint our nails and talk about cute boys like tall, blond, and scraggily over there… or maybe Ellis."

Jaune, who wasn't too far away from them; having been looking for people to talk too, looks over at them, "Huh?"

"Pardon?" Ellis looks down to Weiss confused.

Ruby looks ar her exited, "Really?"

"NO!" Weiss yells.

Suddenly, the sound of a microphone giving feedback goes off and draws everyone's attention to the principle of Beacon, Ozpin, standing ready to speak. He was wearing a black and green suit, holding a mug in his right hand. His hair was a grey white and he had a pair of spectacles on his nose just reaching his eyes. He had an almost old and wise aura around him. Like you could ask him for advice, and he'd know exactly what to say every single time.

"I'll keep this brief. You have all travelled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you finish, you'll plan to dedicate your life to the safety of other people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is waisted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but it'll prove knowledge will only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

A woman wearing a pair of reading glasses and light blonde hair done up in a bun at the back with a curl down the right side of her face steps forward to the mic. Her outfit had a long sleeved, pleated top with a wide keyhole neckline and gauntlet cuffs that flare pleats on her wrists.

Her lower body covered by a black high-waist pencil skirt, bronze buttons going up the midriff and black brown stockings, she also wore a black cape with purple on the inside and a large flame like patters in the bottom of it.

She's one of the staff members at beacon, Professor Glynda Goodwitch. She appeared strict, a no-nonsense attitude that would force any student to behave evident in her words, "You will gather in the ballroom for the night today. Tomorrow will be the day of your initiation. You're dismissed."

As everyone begins to leave, and the two sisters start a conversation, Weiss continues to drag Ellis along. The boy then gets himself out of her grasp with a gentle tug, Weiss stopping and turning around as he begins speaking, "Weiss, As much as you dragging me around is bringing back fond memories, I must ask why you're doing it… I also need to use the restroom."

Weiss sighs irritated and looks at him sternly, "Because you're the only one I can tolerate in this place! I remember back then; you were an incredible partner in training. Your semblance is useful in almost any combat situation. I know for a fact that you're able to asses any situation! And-! and… I… okay, look… It's been so long and… I still think you're a good friend… my best friend… I don't want to let the only person I actually like get out of my sight."

Ellis smiles at her and walks closer, placing a hand on her shoulder in order to comfort Weiss in her more shy state at the moment, "You truly are the living proof even the coldest ice can melt if you show enough warmth, Weiss."

Weiss smiles and laughs slightly before realising what she was doing, looking away with a pout and blush. She swats away his hand from her shoulder and returns her tone back to the "bratty princess" type, "Oh, shush up you dolt! I'm going to the ballroom; I'll save you a spot next to me."

The boy smiles, watching as Weiss turns and continues walking away. Ellis only returning her a softly spoke, "Thanks, snow."

Ellis and Weiss go their separate ways, Weiss taking a quick glance at him while walking away before turning back and continuing to the ballroom.

After a small while of walking, Ellis turns a corner and accidentally bumps into someone. It was a boy of about 6ft in height. He was very muscular in build and made Ellis' eyes go slightly wider, Ellis only being 5ft10 and thinner in comparison. Despite, as much as it was hidden by his jacket, Ellis having a fairly toned body of his own.

The other boys eyes were a dull green, and he wore a chalk green singlet. Black, messy hair that had a fringe seeming to spike out almost. His hands had black and green heavy-duty gloves on as well as black cargo pants leading to the black shoes with green outlines on his feet.

At his sides were two black batons, the top parts coloured green and spaced out with glowing white pieces. This boy almost looked as if he could lift a bullhead all by himself with no trouble. His stature and build suggesting he spends most of his time building up his already large muscles.

But this boy, despite his appearance, was just like Ellis. Another Huntsman in training.

Ellis then falls backwards and closes his eyes, ready to hit the floor, only for nothing to happen. Opening them, he looked to see he was being held by his jacket collar to stop his fall. The muscular boy giving a confident smile and saying, "I'm sorry, dude!"

"It's quite alright, this sort of thing happens." Ellis helps himself stand back up, looking at the new face as he's let go of. Ellis registered the other boys appearance and the height difference.

The muscular boy nods, keeping his smile as he speaks again, "How about we start over? I'm jack Chalk." The boy, now known as Jack, holds out his hand for Ellis to take.

Ellis gladly sighs, thankful another situation like before didn't occur again, then putting out his own hand and shaking the others, "Ellis Violet."

Jack laughs lightly and gives another confident smile, closing one of his eyes as he speaks again, "Cool name, bro." Jack takes his hand away, putting both of them on his sides, "I'll have to see you later, Ellis, I'm heading to the ballroom and seeing if I'm able to get a good spot to sleep."

Ellis nods, moving out of the way of Jack as the larger boy begins walking away, Ellis turning around and waving, "Until we speak again, Jack" Jack also turning around after as both wave at each other. After the exchange, Ellis continues to the bathroom.
