Day 5 part 3

Zoisite remained still, holding the knife to Minako's throat as he listened. Looking at Minako, he doubted she would go anywhere despite most of the wounds being superficial… except for one or two. He smirked, she definitely wouldn't be using her love-me chain anytime soon. He quietly left the bedroom to see who had entered the home and was surprised to see Mamoru there in the living room. He thought Mamoru would have used the secret passage or did he not know what was going on? No, he had to know. Did that mean everyone else was hiding? Walking to where he could keep an eye on the entrances to both the bedroom and the study, he said. "Master."

Mamoru said. "Zoisite, I came to get a jacket I left. What are you doing here? I thought you were on vacation with everyone else."

Zoisite shook his head. "Like you, I forgot something."

Mamoru said. "You teleported here to get it and then go back to the cabin?"

Zoisite chuckled. "It seems ridiculous now. I could have waited until the vacation was over."

Transforming into Tuxedo Kamen, he looked at the knife in Zoisite's hand. "Let's not pretend why we're here." Sighing, he said. "We know what you did. It's over."

Zoisite shook his head. Seeing Nephrite and Sailor Mercury come out of the study, he said. "I don't want to fight."

Nephrite scoffed. "No, you'd rather be a coward and sneak up on people." Nephrite winced as Sailor Mercury elbowed him.

Sailor Mercury said. "Choppi is gone. Who are you working for?"

Zoisite ignored her and Tuxedo Kamen asked. "Why are you doing this?"

He shook his head. "It doesn't concern you."

Sailor Mars said. "Then maybe I can make you talk."

She produced a fireball and the others prepared to attack. Zoisite guessed she and Jadeite had entered through the back door. He stepped backward, but tripped over Artemis, dropping the knife as he landed on his back. Damn cat was sitting there, licking his paw as if nothing happened and then the cat ran off. It took a moment for him to catch his breath, but once he did, he slowly sat up. He wasn't stupid. Zoisite knew it was a losing battle especially now he wasn't receiving aid from Choppi and it seemed he was going up against everyone. "Master, forgive me." He bowed deeply. "I'm so sorry."

Tuxedo Kamen shook his head. "You are not one of my shitennou."

Zoisite looked up, still bowing as he glared. "Neither is Jadeite."

Tuxedo Kamen said. "Jadeite deeply regrets siding with Beryl. You seem to regret nothing."

Sitting up, Zoisite said. "You'd rather have two spineless shitennou who are loyal when it suits them?"

"Three"

Zoisite sat up and turned to see Kunzite standing in the front entrance. "You're-"

Sailor Moon entered the room, interrupting whatever Zoisite was going to say. "Why did you do it?"

Zoisite looked at her and shrugged. "I have no idea."

Sailor Moon glared as she approached him. "Why did you kill Luna and Motoki?"

He shrugged again, but didn't dare smarting off. He may have survived doing that to Beryl, but he doubted Jadeite would step in this time. Instead, he lunged for the knife. He cried out as Sailor Moon stomped on his hand. "That hurts!"

Sailor Moon scoffed. "It hurts?" She picked up the knife while keeping her foot on his hand. "What was it you said to me when we were sitting on the steps on the morning of our second day here? It was after I dumped the pancake batter on Jadeite's head. Oh yes, I remember now… you said Luna was very vocal." She twisted her heel. "I now understand what you meant by that."

Zoisite knew he shouldn't have let Choppi record anything. Stupid dog. He glared as he cried out. "You're a Princess! Show mercy!"

Her eyes blazed. "Show you mercy? Why should I show you mercy when you showed Luna none?"

Zoisite realized he had lost. He had to try to salvage what he could. There was no way he could fight his way out, he wasn't an expert fighter like Kunzite or Nephrite. Looking down, he closed his eyes. "Forgive me for what I have done. Please heal me." Zoisite sniffled, keeping his eyes closed.

Sailor Moon looked at Kunzite, and asked. "What is Minako's condition?"

Kunzite said. "Mostly superficial wounds. Artemis is fixing her up as we speak. I teleported them back to the Hikawa Shrine."

Sailor Moon nodded, removing her foot from his hand. "Then he was reluctant."

Kunzite nodded. "It's possible, but keep in mind, the wounds are fresh. They were inflicted after Choppi was defeated. What do you have to say about that Zoisite?"

Zoisite knew Kunzite didn't mention the more serious wound so Sailor Moon wouldn't worry or maybe it was to prevent the Princess from appearing. Regardless of Kunzite's reason, it would make it easier for Sailor Moon to give him another chance or at least hesitate long enough for him to get away. Zoisite smirked as he looked around. Everyone had, for the most part, stayed silent, letting the Prince and Princess take command. However, they were all on standby, waiting to attack him. "I have to say… you have forgotten one important thing... bye." and teleported away.

Sailor Venus and Artemis stood in the garden behind the Hikawa Shrine while Sailor Jupiter waited inside. Artemis said. "Is this really a good idea? You can't use your hand. What if Zoisite teleports to inside the building?"

Sailor Venus shrugged. "Kunzite didn't like my plan either, but we need to find out why he's doing this. It will make it easier to prevent this from happening again. Since I'm his target, he might tell me why he's doing this." She looked at her hands, one was fine and the other was bandaged. "Only one hand is broken. The painkillers have kicked in so the pain isn't as bad." She smiled. "Besides, I can wield the sword with both hands." She looked around. "I don't think he'll teleport to inside the building. He doesn't know which room we're in so he'll probably teleport to somewhere out here." As if on cue, he appeared and she said. "Ah, there he is. Let's finish this."

Zoisite smiled. "Waiting for me?"

Sailor Venus shook her head. "Don't flatter yourself. Tell me why you're doing this."

He scoffed. "You know why." She moved quickly as she summoned the Holy Sword and Zoisite cried out as pain shot through his leg. Clutching his shin, he glared at her.

She shrugged. "If you didn't want me to fight, you should have killed me instead of trying to toy with me." He opened his mouth to speak, but she shook her head. "Don't bother trying to gaslight me."

He forced a smile. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

Sailor Venus shook her head. "Your games will not work on me this time."

He stood up straight as the dark clouds quickly rolled in and thunder rumbled. "I have no idea what you mean. Games? I don't play games-"

BOOM

Both were knocked to the ground. Sailor Jupiter stomped toward Zoisite as he scrambled to stand back up. "Why did you kill Motoki?"

Sailor Venus stood. "Jupiter, stop!" It was almost like that day she grabbed the youma to electrocute it and to her horror, that's exactly what Sailor Jupiter was doing. Sailor Jupiter grabbed Zoisite from behind and lightning struck. "STOP!"

Zoisite screamed. Sailor Jupiter had tears running down her face as she demanded to know why he killed Motoki. Why did he take her fiancee away from her? What did Motoki ever do to him? Sailor Venus and Artemis backed away as the lightning kept getting brighter. The sky had darkened so much, it looked like it was midnight. Artemis said. "We've got to stop her."

Sailor Venus faced her cat. "How? No matter what we try, we'll be electrocuted too!" She looked back at Sailor Jupiter, who was still screaming in Zoisite's ear demanding answers and Zoisite was screaming pain. The light was still getting brighter. "Artemis, we need to hide." They took cover behind dense shrubs lining the garden and covered their ears. Moments later there was an explosion. They waited a few seconds before slowly lifting their heads and peeking over the shrubs. The sky had cleared up some and Sailor Jupiter and Zoisite were lying on opposite sides of the area. Artemis said. "I'll go to Zoisite, you talk to Sailor Jupiter."

Sailor Venus ran to Sailor Jupiter. Sitting next to the senshi, she said. "You could have died."

Sailor Jupiter shrugged as she looked at Sailor Venus. She was covered in dirt and her clothes were burnt. Tears continued to stain her face as she choked out. "I don't care." She tried glaring at Zoisite, but the tears were blurring her vision. "Why did he have to die?" Sailor Venus tried to hug Sailor Jupiter, but jerked back at the static shock. Sailor Jupiter said. "Sorry. It takes a minute or two for the static to go away."

Artemis shook his head as he looked Zoisite over. His cape had holes in it, his boots were almost black, there were burn marks all over his clothes, he was covered in dirt, and his hair was no longer silver white, it was grey ombre. The feathery, fern like pattern of the Lichtenberg Figure branched across his skin, going up one side of his face and around his eye. Sighing, Artemis asked. "Zoisite, why?"

Zoisite coughed as he struggled to breathe, shrugging as he sat up. "What does it matter?"

Artemis sighed. "If you're not saying because you want us to wonder, it isn't going to work. Time will be reset and everyone will be brought back. Everyone will move on and not bother with an answer that doesn't matter."

Zoisite chuckled. "You said it yourself. It doesn't matter." He saw Sailor Moon approach with Sailor Venus not far behind. Tuxedo Kamen was helping Sailor Jupiter stand. He didn't see the others, but they were probably waiting, watching from inside.

Sailor Moon said. "It matters. Whether or not you come back will depend on your answer. So tell me why you killed Luna and Motoki." She wanted to believe he could be saved. She gripped her wand as she looked into his eyes, eyes that no longer had hate in them. "Let me heal you."

Zoisite sighed. "Luna was at the wrong place at the wrong time. If I had realized she was on the phone with you, Sailor Venus, our paths would have crossed like this a lot sooner. Maybe Motoki's death could have been avoided."

Sailor Venus glared. "Don't try putting the blame on someone else. Why did you kill Motoki?"

He shrugged. "I'm not blaming anyone else. The fact is if I had been confronted sooner, then maybe he'd still be alive… but what's done is done. I didn't intend to kill him. My intent was to only severely injure him so Makoto would cut her vacation short. However, he figured it out. Somehow, Motoki figured out who I am. That is why he died."

Sailor Venus asked. "Why did Makoto have to cut her vacation short?"

Zoisite said. "I intended to slowly give everyone a reason to not stay the entire time."

She said. "Leaving us alone. Why?"

Zoisite glared at her, but there didn't seem to be any real anger behind it. "You were supposed to help me keep the Prince and Princess apart. We had a deal. I made a music box to erase her memory of the Prince for you to use and you would help me when I needed you. When Master was in danger and I came to you, you didn't help. You let the music box break."

They were shocked. Sailor Venus said. "That's why?" She shook her head. "The music box was struggling to erase her memories. I realized their love for one another was too great. Nothing was going to keep them apart. They're married now and the world hasn't ended. In the past, it wasn't their love that destroyed the world. Yes, the Princess did destroy it, but it was because Endymion had died. He died because of a jealous woman who couldn't accept he had chosen someone else. As for why I didn't go with you, I had to stay by my Princess' side. I'm quite certain had our roles been reversed, you would have done the same thing and stayed by your Master's side."

Zoisite coughed. "Venus… you are not wrong."

Sailor Moon looked like she wanted to say something to Sailor Venus but instead asked Zoisite. "Why are you holding a grudge?" Zoisite shrugged, giving a helpless sort of why gesture as if he didn't know the answer.

Sailor Venus lifted his chin with the sword. "You will be executed."

Sailor Moon stepped towards the senshi, "If he regrets-"

Sailor Venus shook her head. "Choppi didn't appear until Mio did. Zoisite has been doing this since before Beryl appeared. He's not being controlled by anyone." She glared at the man sitting on the ground.

Zoisite's breathing become more ragged as he looked up the blade of the sword at Sailor Venus. "Then kill me."

Sailor Moon said. "I will heal you and then she's going to kill you." She sighed as Sailor Venus removed the sword from his neck. "If you're really being controlled by something then you'll come back when I reset time." Zoisite nodded as she held up her wand to heal him and Sailor Venus was ready with the Holy Sword.

"WAIT!"

They looked to see Nephrite running to them. When he reached them, he asked Zoisite. "Where is it?" Seeing the confused look on his face, Nephrite clarified. "Two years before Beryl announced herself Queen and began attacking, she approached the shitennou as a regular woman, giving each of us something that I later found out had been infused with Metalia's power. I destroyed what she gave me and so did Kunzite. Jadeite stayed loyal to her for so long because he held onto the keychain."

Sailor Venus shook her head. "Zoisite wasn't that loyal to her and he began killing people before she began attacking."

Nephrite nodded as Zoisite appeared to be lost in thought. "Yes, the killings began one year before Beryl began attacking, but that's one year after she visited each of us, giving us a gift. I think we all got keychains with a black purple stone on it. I assumed Zoisite destroyed his immediately and that's why he wasn't that loyal, but if he didn't... he may not have noticed anything off. He may not have noticed what it was doing to him."

Sailor Venus faced Nephrite. "Zoisite did all of this because I didn't help protect Endymion. You're saying a keychain caused him to do this? A keychain!?" She was irritated. Surely, all this trouble couldn't be because of a keychain.

Nephrite nodded. "For me, it took my anger and increased it. It twisted my thoughts and I wasn't thinking clearly. For Zoisite, it may have twisted his desire to protect Endymion and he never realized Beryl was behind it." He shook his head then looked at Zoisite. "My point is, Zoisite, do you still have that keychain?"

Zoisite was already getting something out of his pocket. Pulling his hand out, he held it up for everyone to see. What once was a lustrous purple black stone, in the shape of a treble clef, set in silver, was now scorched and the stone was cracked into several pieces. "When it was given to me, I tossed it on my desk with the intent of throwing it away. Later, I decided to keep it and placed it next to the sheet music on my piano." He sighed. "It stayed on the piano until about a year ago when I began carrying it with me. I can't believe I didn't notice."

Nephrite said. "When we came back, I saw Jadeite still had his keychain and I destroyed it. I shouldn't have assumed you destroyed yours. Anyway, it's destroyed now so let's start this time line over."

By this time, everyone else had made their way over. Zoisite nodded, moving slower than before. "I'll only stay in touch with Master until after Motoki and Makoto get married. After that, if you wish for me to be around..." He slumped his shoulders, closing his eyes as he fell over.

Sailor Moon knelt down. "Zoisite?" He disappeared and she held her hands up to catch the stone that had appeared. As it landed in her hands, she asked. "Do you think he'll come back?"

Sailor Mars said. "There's only one way to find out."

Sailor Moon watched the stone turn to dust and disappear. Standing, she bit her lip. Nephrite saw her hesitation and said. "If you're thinking of waiting, then I'd like to take Sailor Mercury on that hike… and before you reset time, you can page us. So, you know, if we're busy, we can finish what we're doing." Sailor Mercury felt her face turn red as Jadeite laughed.

Jadeite said. "Page? I think you've already gone back in time."

Sailor Moon shook her head. "I was just thinking about how we're going to be 14 again. No, 13, since this began a year before Beryl started attacking. We're going to have to go through school again."

Everyone groaned. Jadeite said. "If time is reset to before all of this happened, then some of us will be 12 again. Zoisite was given the keychain two years before Beryl began attacking."

Sailor Mercury said. "It wasn't destroyed the first time. Now it's gone and hopefully there aren't any other items infused with Metalia's power. It's odd after defeating Beryl that the..." Her voice trailed off. "That's it. We didn't defeat Beryl."

Tuxedo Kamen asked. "What do you mean? Beryl was defeated. Sailor Moon-"

Sailor Mercury shook her head. "The Princess destroyed you while you were under the influence of Metalia, then she destroyed the entire planet. It's why Mio and Choppi were here again. It's why the keychain continued to influence Zoisite. Metalia herself hasn't been defeated."

Nephrite said. "That means Beryl should still be alive but if Metalia is still around, then why haven't there been any attacks?"

Sailor Mercury said. "They might be working together again and they might have been letting Zoisite do all the work. If they sent youma, it's easily identified as a supernatural, but what Zoisite did, the senshi have no reason to meddle. We only intervene if it's a youma. Then there's the issue of no one remembering we exist because time has already been reset once."

Artemis said. "Whoever is the best artist, draw a sketch of Beryl as a regular woman. I'll run the image through the computer to see if I can find her. Once found, we'll have her information and then come up with a plan." Looking at everyone, he said. "We finish this today."

Beryl smiled as she ate her lunch at her desk. Zoisite was gone and the senshi were probably crying their eyes out. Today was a good day. When Shingo comes before her, she'll give him the harshest sentence she can. Sailor Moon would no doubt continue to defend him and eventually Endymion would tire of his wife defending her brother. Yes, things were going well. Endymion would be hers. She continued to daydream about a happily ever after with her Prince. She daydreamed about not having to be a judge anymore, although the job change would have to come after she sent Shingo away for a long time. She still couldn't believe the detective bought her story of that girl being her niece. Humans were so stupid.

Her smile fell as her lustrous ring with a black purple stone became dull. That meant Metalia was gone. If Metalia was gone then the senshi found her home, they know where she is, and were probably coming for her. Despite taking on her human appearance from before she declared herself Queen, if they found her home, they know what she looks like. She grabbed her purse, and headed for the door. Now her large office seemed too big. The door so far away. She couldn't teleport, she no longer had power. Kunzite appeared with Sailor Venus in front of the door. Holy Sword in hand, Sailor Venus didn't hesitate to lunge at her. No pleasantries, no asking why, no speech, nothing. Beryl tried to backtrack, but wasn't fast enough.

Sailor Venus stabbed Beryl in the chest with the sword. Looking in Beryl's rapidly dimming eyes, she glared. "Don't you dare come back." She kicked Beryl off the sword and the former Dark Queen was dead when she hit the floor.
