Holding On To Hope
3 Years After Praimfaya
Raven often found herself starring at the scorched planet of Earth. It's appearance had contrasted so drastically from the drawings of Clarke's prison cell that Raven often found herself in.
It was Clarke's birthday again and Raven often was troubled sitting down with the others and talking about Clarke like she was truly gone. It was too much, especially if she really was gone then Raven would it was her fault.
"Back here again, aren't we"? She turned to see her fellow Co-leader, smiling sympathetically at her.
Bellamy stood next to her and said quietly, "Yeah, I miss her too".
Raven snorted, "You talk like she's dead. You all do".
Bellamy replied, "Look, I know it's Clarke. She was one of the toughest people I know but I can't hold out hope that she's alive and be let down when she isn't".
Raven snorted as she turned away, "Then you're more stupid than I thought".
Bellamy grabbed her arm and said, "You aren't the only one that left her behind".
Raven tried for months but couldn't hold it in anymore,
"She went along with my plan"! Raven shouted at her friend, "I told her what to do and She trusted me with her life and I left her behind to burn! That's on me"! Bellamy hugged her as she let the tears fall. Both leaders said nothing as they grieved for their best friend.
"I miss her..." Raven uttered to Bellamy as he nodded and replied, "I do too".
"There were so many things I wanted to say to her"! Bellamy nodded and replied,
"We say them now then and we remember her and honour her as the strong woman she was". Raven nodded as they separated. Both knew that was easier said then done but they would try for Clarke's sake.
They returned back to the room where everyone else was. Monty was preparing his usual algae for everyone. Murphy was can complaining about it to Emori.
Murphy saw Raven first and said, "Look who decided to show". It wasn't said in his usual Murphy like manner. His expression showed sympathy.
Monty and everyone else turned to Raven and smiled.
Raven started, "Look guys, I'm sorry for showing up late. I didn't mean too". Raven was interrupted when Harper replied, "We know Raven. It's okay, we all miss Clarke and yes, I'm including Murphy in We as well".
Murphy snorts back, "Think you know me so well".
Monty laid out plates of gross Algae for everyone. Bellamy saved them the dread of eating when he announced,
"Since today is now the actual birthday of a very dear old friend of ours, I believe we should say one thing about Clarke that affected us deeply". Everyone nodded their heads in agreement.
Monty said, "I'll go first. I don't think Raven touched down on Earth yet. It was when Jasper was speared once and Clarke risked going into an acid fog to find a way for Jasper to recover. Back then, I knew how brave Clarke was and how much she cared about the people around her". The fact that Monty was openly speaking about Jasper spoke volumes about how much this day meant to him.
"I'll go next" Harper continued on, "When she took down the Mountain Men. I know, she was traumatized by it but those assholes were going to suck us all dry so I think it was very brave of her to put herself through that for us. She saved us even when Monty and I thought she was crazy".
"She gave up her own radiation suit when mine broke". Emori spoke up, "Plus she chose to risk herself with Nightblood so that I wouldn't be put in that chamber". Murphy touched Emori's hand in a comforting gesture. It was one of Murphy's scariest moments.
She continued, "Clarke didn't even know me. She only met me through John but she chose to still consider me her people. That's a debt I wish I had the chance to repay".
Roan chimed in, "When Wanheda stabbed me in the side when I captured her took her to Polis. I knew she was a tough one then. Heh, good times". Everyone else felt awkward but Bellamy and Murphy definitely believed that happened.
Murphy decides to speak up, "Fine, I'll do it. It's pretty obvious that she and I didn't get along at first but for some reason, she didn't give up on me. She protected me when I was in trouble. Even from you, Bellamy". The people from the dropship days laughed hard at that comment.
Bellamy smiled and replied, "Guilty as charged". Murphy continued,
"For some reason, she decided to give a damn about me and Emori. She wanted to give me another chance and I blew it. Plus, I really hate owing people".
"I guess I'll go next". Bellamy said knowing Raven needed time to collect herself,
"Clarke and I didn't get along at first either. I thought she was just some spoiled princess and she proved me wrong very quickly". Murphy and Monty laughed at that memory.
Bellamy continued, "She stood up to me but she also forgave me for my mistakes when I didn't believe I deserve it".
Raven finally spoke up, "When I crashed on Earth, she helped me out of the pod and welcomed me. When I spoke of my insecurities, she'd told me she'd pick me first. She'd saved me from Alie. I know it was her idea to come back for me". Tears fell off her face and her voice shook as she spoke that last part.
Bellamy decided it was time to end it,
"To Clarke". The rest echoed the same. Bellamy turned to Raven and said,
"You did good. Eventually it'll get easier". Raven didn't say anything and proceeded to continue eating. He knew that their was more to say but she couldn't admit it here. Not today and Bellamy didn't blame her. Bellamy at least had a sister to meet again whilst Raven felt like she had no one.
Everyone continued on with their day.
Earth, Shallow Valley
The radio was on as Clarke recorded, "Hey Rae, it's day 560. Madi had a nightmare this morning so I had to adjust her training to a later hour. It's adorable how just hearing my voice brought her back to reality. She asked me to tell her the story of The Hundred and Two that were sent to the Ground again. Heh, She always loved the part where you fell out of that sky that morning. I miss you Rae. You would've loved scolding me for my treatment of the Rover. May We Meet Again".Clarke turned off the radio as she went back to her sleeping daughter.
Clarke still dealt with nightmares that became exhausting. Some were about the fear that Raven, Bellamy and the others had died in Space and no one was coming for them. Others came from the Flame. Despite the fact that the Flame was removed from Clarke after defeating Alie, it had left it's imprint on Clarke. Both good and bad memories of past Commanders. It definitely helped a lot in her training regime that she started with Lexa back during the months she spent in Polis but also sucked seeing how all the Commanders die in her sleep.
Lexa's always hurt the most. It was traumatizing at first after the first year with Madi, Clarke had finally managed to grieve when Madi was asleep. Lexa was right when she said, "The Dead are Gone Klark. The Living are Hungry". Clarke had eventually accepted that apart of her will always love Lexa but it was time to move on. She can only help the living now which as of right now was her little angel Madi and hopefully Raven and her friends on the Ring.
As she layed next to Madi, Clarke thought a lot about her history with Raven. How she regretted how things ended with her. Bringing up her father's sacrifice was a real low blow but she understood why Raven brought it up. She honestly did want to believe that the people wouldn't panic about the 100 list but Pike's actions had shown her how terrible her people can be, especially with panic and her head was arguing with her constantly over the decision. Making the list was one of the hardest things she ever had to do.
If they come down...
"When! When they come down! They will come back"! Clarke shouted in her head.
She knew it had to be two more years before they could come down but she had to admit how much she missed them, even Murphy. She imagined how exciting it would be to introduce Raven to her little girl. Raven was after all Madi's second favorite after Octavia.
"See you soon Rae. May We Meet Again". Clarke's last thoughts before she drifted off to sleep.
