Rex could barely contain his grin as he ran back to the others. He had done a little "advanced scouting" on his own which basically meant exploring cause he felt like it. During his latest little adventure, he had found something that he really wanted to show Pyra.
"Rex!" Pyra smiled despite her tone seeing him running up, "Where have you–ah! Rex!" Pyra was taken off guard by her driver suddenly grabbing her arm and pulling her away.
"Come on! I got something I want to show you."
Pyra simply giggled as she went along with it. She loved the way he got excited like this, and she would never want him to change that about himself. She really enjoyed the carefree nature he still managed to carry at times, and she was happier with him than she had ever been before by far.
Rex came to a cliffside and smiled at Pyra, "Hold on tight." Pyra blushed as Rex wrapped an arm around her and aimed his anchor – modified by Pyra using some knowledge she got from the station. Once the hook took root, they zipped up to a small enclave.
"Wow," Pyra's mouth fell agape as she took in the sight. Surrounded by rocks on all sides, there was a lovely pool with a waterfall pouring down the rockface. It was an amazing little place hidden away from the rest of the world.
"Amazing, ain't it?" Rex smiled walking up behind her.
"It really is," Pyra smiled with a hand over her core crystal, "To think there are so many wonders in this world." A vague survey accessed from a database was not the same as seeing something like this firsthand. Especially with Rex by her side.
"Yep!" Rex put his hands on his hips and breathed in the air, "And we've still got a lot to find. Plenty of ground to cover and all that."
"Yes," Pyra nodded, "And I'm glad that I get to cover it with you."
"Me too, Pyra. Er, what are you doing?" Rex blushed as his blade got in close and gave him a quick kiss.
"There mercs aren't here. I'm showing my affection. You mean the world to me, Rex. I love you."
"I love you too, Pyra," Rex had gotten better with such displays over the past year, but he still blushed at such a forward showing. Not that he did not like it, but he was still adjusting to the reality that, yes, Pyra loved him.
"Well, this place is lovely, but the others might start wondering where we went."
"Huh? Oh, yeah," Rex chuckled, "Let's not keep them waiting then."
"Well, this is cute and all, but shouldn't we get going?" The blonde asked leaning up against a rockface looking off into the distance, "That storm looks nasty."
"Hmm, very well," The silver clad blade turned away, "Let's get going."
"So," The blonde spoke up after a few minutes, "How long you gonna stalk him for anyway?"
"I want to see if he can keep his word," The blade did not look at the blade eater, "To see if he really can change the world."
"And how's he doing so far?"
"Fair," Jin replied after a moment of consideration, "He has more yet to learn, but he's trying. He's a hero so people will listen to him, but he doesn't let it get to his head. He's using his authority to do what he believes is right without abuse. Time will tell if his methods work."
"Well, if I'm any indication, he'll have plenty of time to try."
"Yes, I suppose he will," Jin looked slightly troubled for a moment before hiding his emotions once again, "Let's get out of here before we get caught in that storm."
"Ngh," Mythra groaned at the knocking on the door. It was hard enough to focus, why did they have to bother her? Could they not figure out whatever minor problem it was for themselves? Were they really so helpless?
"What?" Mythra yelled far more hostilely than she may have intended, but at least it distracted her from the encroaching and increasingly dark thoughts.
A merc nervously slid into the room, "A-apologies, madam, but Team Nine was turned back by severe weather. Their mapping expedition will have to be rescheduled."
"Fine, fine," The blonde waved him away, "Now leave me alone."
"Yes, ma'am," The merc did not have to be told twice. They did not know what was up, but just about everyone working in the HQ was counting the days until Rex and Pyra got back. Mythra seemed to be in an exceptionally foul mood, and it was clear for all to see. She had thrown things more than once.
"Ugh," Mythra whispered to herself, "A little weather and they come crawling back. Humans are so frail." Her mind flashed with a few images of her friends, "Most of them." Mythra looked at the stack of papers on the desk that she had barely made a dent in. Was this really all that life had in store for her? Being a glorified secretary?
The blade looked out the window, life was tedious at times. What had Malos called it? The tedium of being? She certainly felt it now. Day in and day out, what was her purpose? Pyra had found her purpose it seemed, but her? Nothing. How was that fair? Pyra would not have existed if not for her! What right did she have to be so…so…happy?
Placing her head into her hands, Mythra stood from the desk. No, she...she loved her sister, right? She was happy for her, right? She told herself that it would just take time to find what she was supposed to do. To find her reason for being. Rex was taken care of. He had grown up some in the last year. He did not really need her anymore it seemed. Pyra, well, did Pyra ever need her?
So then why? Why was she drifting just as much now as she had been months ago? Stuck with these miserable and dreary humans going about their lives. They were so boring! So weak. So helpless. She felt like she was going mad staying here.
Surely there was something to do. Go on missions? It did not particularly interest her. It was then her mind glossed over the documents on the desk. There had been one thing of mild interest. A classified report from Morag herself. It seemed that one of their scout ships had seen something mysterious up to the far north. Having an idea of what it may have been, she had immediately halted the investigation and sent word back to Pyra. To the Aegis, Mythra sneered.
Well, Mythra thought scooping up the report, it was interesting if nothing else. Might as well see if it was true. She would stop by the house first, but this may yet provide some relief for that tedium of being.
