"I remember bits of memories," Karley explained, feet dangling over the edge of the tower. It gave her a sense of freedom sitting there, New York City beneath her. It was very early in the morning from what she could tell, New Yorkers bustling on the streets below, going to their normal everyday lives. "My parents, they must be worried sick."

Daisy gave a small smile at that, knowing her sister was likely correct. They had been sitting there for a couple hours now, the only interruption being Stark poking his head out to make sure no one was dead, leaving shortly after when Daisy gave him a look to let him know it was alright. Lyla joined them on the roof just after, helping her girlfriend recall what has happened the last 6 months as best she could.

There was stuff even Karley hadn't told the blond, stuff from her time overseas that she didn't want to recall, but for the most part between her and Daisy, they covered most of it. Of course Karley had asked a million questions, as to be expected, but they took it slow as to not overwhelm her.

"Where do we go from here?" Karley asked at the end, when her head couldn't take any more information. "I need to see my parents so they know I'm not dead, and they won't believe it until they see me and coddle me for hours, but I don't know if I'm ready for that. How do I face them after what they've undoubtedly seen about me on the news? I'm a killer. I've killed so many in such a short time, and I didn't even know their names."

Lyla hesitantly reached out to grab her hand, relieved when her girlfriend didn't pull away.

"We'll face them together, whenever you're ready Karley," she said, her gaze on the horizon.

"You've been through a lot," Daisy took over, taking Lyla's lead as she reached for Karley's other hand. "Whatever you need, just know you have both of us. I know we didn't know each other before this but I want to change that." At seeing Karley's somewhat surprised expression she continued. "I grew up thinking I didn't have any family, then I found one with S.H.I.E.L.D. Now I found you too."

"I'd like that Daisy," Karley said honestly before sighing and gently standing up, the two woman on either side of her following suit. "Now what?"

"Now," Daisy said, leading the trio towards the elevator. "We go introduce you to the Avengers. You also need to be examined by Jemma and Bruce, one of your bullet wounds seemed to be infected."

Karley pulled her shirt down a bit to look at the wound in question to see that Daisy was indeed correct.

"Yea, that one hurts," she said as they all entered the elevator. "Is there any way we can send a team to where my temporary base was? It's a longshot but maybe the Red Dawn left something behind."

"Of course," Daisy said as they travelled down to the common room, the elevator doors opening to reveal everyone gathered around seemingly in deep conversation. All eyes turned to them and the talking quickly halted, everyone sitting up a little straighter, on edge at the sight of Karley.

"Hey," Karley shyly greeted, giving a little wave to everyone.

"Well she's alive!" Tony immediately broke the ice, jumping off the couch and walking over to them. "Welcome to Avengers tower little Johnson. Only one rule - you break it, you buy it."

Karley stared at him for a second in confusion before cracking a smile, remembering that he's literally a billionaire.

"And she has a sense of humor!" Stark said, laughing as he guided them into the living room, everyone taking their seats again so they could have a long overdue conversation. Daisy and Lyla took a seat on either side of Karley as they all settled down again.

"I think introductions are in order," Steve announced, clearing his throat a bit. "I'm Steve, this is Natasha, Bruce, Sam, Tony, Vision, Rhodey, Steven and Wanda." She could see that the last name, a girl who was dressed in sweatpants and a shirt like herself, had been staring at her ever since she arrived. More so than the others, almost with a curiosity.

Of course Karley knew all of them, she would have to live under a rock not to. Not to mention that Rumlow drilled their names into her head as they were training. A cold chill shuttered through her body at the all too fresh memory.

"My name's Coulson," a man who Karley didn't recognize said from his wheelchair next to a couch. "This is my team, May, Mack, Yo-Yo, FitzSimmons, Tess, Flint, and of course, your sister Daisy," he said as he pointed out faces to match the names.

"It's nice to meet you all, though I wish it was under better circumstances. I'm sure you all know me," Karley said with a small smile. "I just want to apologize for anything and everything that's happened. I..." she trailed off for a second, looking for the words as she took in the bruised and battered team that she had fought with the night before. "I haven't been myself recently, so I'm sorry."

"You don't need to apologize to us Karley, that wasn't your fault," Steve said from where he stood, crossing his arms in deep thought. The room became deathly silent for a moment before Stark broke the silence in his typical Tony style.

"Alright, now that the introductions are over, I just have to ask," he turned to Karley. "Where was your last known base?"

At the business talk Karley recalled everything she could, from the very moment her and Lyla had entered that cave. A lot of it was foggy as her memory had been wiped so many times, but she did as best she could, her girlfriend jumping in when she could. As soon as she gave the location of her latest base, Coulson and Stark sent Vision, Sam, Mack, Yo-Yo and Rhodey to check the location out as the rest remained to listen to her story.

"So those injection sites on your arm are from when they would mind wipe you?" Bruce asked bluntly. When Karley nodded her confirmation, he took off for his labs.

"What happened last night when you collapsed and went crazy again?" Tony asked, circling his fingers around his head.

"I don't know," Karley answered honestly. "All I remember is my comms came to life and Mrs. Frederics voice came through on a loop, repeating these words. It's a code they used every time the mind wiped me, after they would inject me with that red stuff."

Daisy visibly clenched her fists at her side at this, wishing she had been there to help her sister. She knew she had to stay at the tower though, to get to the astral plane.

"They used those same words on Bucky," Steve said, taking one of the now empty seats next to Coulson and May. "He would have the same reaction as you. They were written in this little red book that Hydra had."

"Mrs. Frederic has that book," Karley said, shifting uncomfortably in her chair.

"Do you know what their plans are with the Inhumans?" May asked the question no one wanted to.

"They didn't keep me in the loop but... every Inhuman we went after either ended up in their labs or...dead," the younger Johnson answered, a distant look in her eyes. Lyla squeezed her hand in comfort. "I wish I could remember where the labs were, I escorted every captured Inhuman to them, but it's all just jumbled bits of memories I don't even know are real."

"I could possibly help with that," Steven spoke up for the first time from the corner of the room. "I have a way to look through memories, but I don't know if it's safe and it's highly intrusive. I'd see everything that's happened since you were born. And I mean everything. It would be over fairly quickly though, and you'd have to go through it all again with me."

At this, Daisy stood up from the couch.

"Absolutely not. You said yourself you don't know if it's safe or not. Besides Karley has been through enough in the last 6 months and hasn't even had time to process it, we don't need to put her through it again."

"Umm, I'm right here you know?" Said the girl in question, standing up next to her sister. She was touched that Daisy cared so much, but it wasn't her choice. If Karley could do something to help fix the pain she's caused to so many others she would. Even if it meant going through it again. It would certainly help sort her mess of a mind out too, the bad and the good. Hopefully.

"I agree with Daisy," May said, taking the older siblings side. "We just got Karley out of danger, why put her back in it so soon?"

"We need answers May, that's why," Stark shot back. "We have no idea what we're facing right now. For all we know, there could be a hundred Inhuman Winter Soldiers ready to do the Red Dawns bidding."

"Stark's right," Karley said, walking over to the tin man who smiled.

"See? Even little Johnson took my side," he said proudly, before shutting up at a glare from the tall Inhuman.

"My last name is Danvers," she said, before continuing. "We have no clue what the Red Dawn is capable of, so if Steven can get us answers, I'm willing to do it."

As seems to be a recurring habit, everyone broke out into an argument about the pros and cons of going through with this.

"Oh my god, enough!" Coulson shouted above the rambling, stopping the growing argument once again. "For now, Karley needs to have her injuries checked on. We can discuss this later when the team comes back from their mission. Strange going through her head should be a last resort, when all our other options fail."

Begrudgingly everyone agreed, heading to the kitchen to start making food for breakfast, occasional arguments still breaking out. Karley, Lyla, Daisy and the rest of the still present S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents remained behind, minus Flint and Tess who ran to the kitchen at the mention of food.

"You can't seriously be thinking about going through with this Karley," Lyla scoffed as the rest gathered around cautiously.

"I am. I need answers, Lyla. I don't remember most of my life, or share any of the memories that we made. Besides I killed countless people, I need to remember what I did. I can't stand one more minute of having an empty head!" She half-shouted in her growing anger. None of them understood what she was feeling. It's like she was a stranger in her own body. A ghost of someone she caught brief glimpses of. It wasn't enough, especially when she had people in front of her who knew her better than she knew herself.

"It could be dangerous Karley," Daisy explained the obvious. "We just got you back, I just found you. We have no clue what this could do to you."

"Listen, Daisy, I know you're my older sister and all, but I don't know you. I want to know you. But I can't do that unless I know who I am myself. I feel like I'm going insane with every second that passes, having an empty mind filled only with memories of killing innocent people and sending others to labs where only god knows what is happening to them. And the smallest memories I do have from my past, all I see is my failures. All I can see is me hanging in a cell in the middle east for weeks being tortured. All I hear is the screams of my dead friends who were left out in the desert to rot!" She finally exploded, before sighing and pinching her nose at the growing headache.

She could clearly see the hurt on her sisters face, the same face she had, the two of them similar in so many ways, and different in so many others. She couldn't be angry at Daisy being protective over her, she just wasn't used to having a sister. She spoke again after her sister decided not to comment on the outburst.

"I'm sorry," Karley said, blowing air through her pursed lips, her anger ebbing away slowly. "I'm sorry, I just don't know what to do. This is the only option I have. I don't wanna wait for months, years maybe, for my memories to come back. I don't think I've ever had patience."

Lyla laughed as little, touching her girlfriends shoulder lightly.

"That word was never in your vocabulary."

Karley looked to the face of Daisy's team, all of them standing there silently after she just shouted at her sister, making her feel even guiltier.

"Daisy told me about you all a little bit," she said, stepping towards them, Daisy by her side as always, trying to break the tense moment.

"She's also told us about you," said a woman, who she could vaguely remember being Simmons. There were a lot of new faces she met today.

"Yea, she stalked you on all your social media accounts and- ow! What was that for?" Fitz rubbed his arm where Daisy had punched him, effectively ending whatever he was about to say. Karley just laughed at the playful banter between the two, seeing that they truly were Daisy's family and she seemed comfortable with them.

"You were in the Marine Corp?" Coulson asked, wheeling himself over to the younger Johnson, May behind him as Fitz and Daisy playfully argued, and Lyla and Simmons were talking about their shared interest in the medical field.

"Yea, I guess I was for 6 years. It makes sense now why I'm so good at fighting," she laughed a bit to herself, watching as her older sister put Fitz in a chokehold and gave him a noogie.

"Daisy's an amazing person, and I know she'll be an amazing sister," he stated, sighing at the scene happening in front of him. His team was just a bunch of children.

"She already has been an amazing sister and I've only known her for hours. I understand she's worried about this thing with Strange, but I have to do this."

"I understand Karley. I went through something a little similar, nothing in comparison to you, but I can relate," he said, looking up at the Inhuman. "You need to do what's best for you, but that doesn't mean that she isn't going to worry. That all of us aren't going to worry. Ever since Daisy told us about you, you became a part of our team. Just know that you have friends."

Karley smiled as Fitz tapped out on the ground, panting at his futile efforts to get her relentless sister off of him. She would like to imagine that she's done the same things to her friends as a brief memory came to the front of her mind. It was the exact same scene that just happened in front of her as she helped someone named Chyna off the ground. She instantly recognized the name as one of the names on her tattoo.

"I used to have some friends too," she stated suddenly, coming out of one of the few happy memories she's experienced. "Every night I go to sleep though, I have those same flashbacks from Afghanistan. Out of all my memories, why did I get the worst ones back? Sometimes I think it's a punishment for all the things I've done these last couple months." She turned to face May and Coulson. "How do you guys get rid of them?"

"You don't," May answered, shifting on her crutches. "You keep the good memories when you can, and you don't forget, but you move on in time. Trust me kid, it won't be easy, but it's not impossible."

"Karley, I think we should do that check up now," Simmons said, standing beside Lyla who gave her girlfriend a look. Karley knew that look. It was the 'you-don't-have-an-option' look. Sighing, she quietly followed them down to the labs, her thoughts still on Mays words. How was she supposed to hold on to good memories when she had so few?

As she sat on the cold lab table, refusing to lay on the bed as it reminded her of all the mind wiping's she's gone through, she knew only one thing for certain - she was going to talk to Strange.

Later that night the team got back from their mission. The Red Dawn had left behind nothing. Not a single piece of evidence, it's like no one had been there at all. Not that the information surprised Karley, she knew it was a long shot, but she had been hopeful.

Her day had been filled with Jemma and Bruce checking on her injuries and giving her antibiotics to fight her infection, which hadn't been as bad as they originally thought, before they stitched the skin back together. She didn't flinch as the needle went through her skin, it was actually refreshing to feel the pain. To feel anything at all really.

A voice broke her thoughts as she finished eating her dinner, putting her plate in the sink.

"You can stay in my room tonight if you want," said her sister, approaching from behind to help with the few dishes remaining. "Lyla can come too, obviously."

"I don't know how the others will feel about that," Karley laughed. "Besides, I would think that you and Natasha would want the room to yourself?" She glanced over to her sister, who had stopped rinsing the plate she was holding, instead doing an impression of a fish.

"Is it that obvious?" Daisy whispered, more to herself but Karley still heard her.

"I mean, you two were flirting all throughout dinner, so I would say yes."

"We were not!" Daisy defended, scoffing at the idea.

"You could do worse," Karley said honestly. "I mean to say, she's pretty cool."

"Yea," Daisy trailed off, thinking about her growing relationship with Natasha. Neither of then knew what they were to the other, but she wasn't going to worry about that right now. "I don't think she would mind if you stayed in my room though. Like you said, she's cool like that."

"I don't know Daisy, I mean, I'm a risk. We still don't know if my mind is my own. I think it'd be best if I stayed in the cell again. I don't wanna be a liability."

Daisy knew that her sister was right, but it didn't mean she liked it.

"That's alright, the futon is still down there, so I'll stay down there with you."

Karley's heart warmed at that, knowing it probably wasn't the most comfortable place to sleep, yet Daisy was willing to stay down there with her. It was...nice, to have someone she knew was looking after her, even if she didn't know her before she was taken by the Red Dawn. Of course she had Lyla, who she loved, though she couldn't explain it. This is why she had snuck off to talk to Strange before they sat down for dinner.

By the end of the night she would have her memories back.

As the team settled down for the night, Karley deciding it was best to sleep in her cell for the others safety, Daisy, Natasha and Lyla all settled down outside of the cell as well, fast asleep from the days events.

Karley laid silently in her bed, a small ball of blue energy rolling over her fingers, the tingling sensation a welcoming comfort, yet she knew it could be a destructive force of nature. As much as she tried, she couldn't get the faces of those that she had dragged out of their homes, in front of their families who pleaded for it to stop, before taking them to the labs for testing. Some never even made it to the labs.

"It's time," a voice said to her left, Strange quietly walking out of a portal as to not wake the others sleeping outside. The sparks around him softly faded into nothingness as he sat down at the foot of her bed, his red cape flowing majestically behind him. "Are you ready?"

Nodding her head, she jumped out of bed and sat across from him, the cold cement stealing her warmth.

"How do we do this?" She asked, adjusting herself to match his position.

"I just need you to give me your hands, and open your mind to me. Think back to your earliest childhood memory, if you can."

"Why are you so willing to help me?" The question made Strange open one eye from where he was beginning his meditation, before reaching for her hands. She gave them to him.

"I saw something not too long ago, a vision of something to come," he explained, his warm hands slightly larger than her own, warmer too, as he continued. "He who is to come isn't far away, and I'm hoping that since the Red Dawn has been working with Hydra, maybe you saw something. It wasn't too long ago that a man by the name of Loki had come to Earth, he was working for this man."

"How do you know he's coming here? Who is he?" She asked, curiosity peaked.

"I know he's coming here, trust me. When he does come, we'll need every available body to help fight him, including you. Can't help us if you're not yourself, now can you?"

Karley shook her head, not knowing what to do with this information. If she was being honest with herself, she just wanted her memories back, no matter what it took. This man that Strange was talking about, well that's a problem for another time, she decided. Taking a deep breath, calming herself, she closed her eyes.

"I'm ready, let's do this."

"I'm not going to sugarcoat it Karley, this is gonna hurt both of us, a lot."

When she didn't answer him, Strange closed his eyes as well, beginning to do his work.

It began slow at first, his necklace opening as he called upon the power of the green gem within to help them. The air became thicker, colder, as he continued. Suddenly their combined hands began to glow, began burning as Karley tried desperately to concentrate on her oldest memory, but the pain was becoming almost unbearable, her throat opening as she could feel a scream forming.

Just when she thought she couldn't take it anymore, her mind felt as if it was thrust out of her body, the burning now in her head.

"Don't let go of my hands Karley!" Strange screamed, clearly in as much pain as she was herself. Just as her scream began to rip from her throat, they were elsewhere.

Daisy was sleeping contently in Natasha's arms, which she would never get over how safe the redhead made her feel. As she lay there recalling the days events, she couldn't be happier. They had found her sister, not in the best condition, but she was alive, and that's all that mattered. No matter where they went from here, Daisy was determined to help her.

As she fell asleep in Nats arms, she smiled, happy with where she was. Little did she know the world itself would end soon.

A few hours she shot up in bed after hearing her sisters scream, Natasha jumping up with her. Frantically they both jumped out of bed and ran over to the cell, the sight before them horrifying.

Strange and Karley sat on the ground, the familiar sparks of the wizard flying everywhere.

"Karley," a voice whispered next to them. Lyla stood in her pajamas taking in the scene in front of them. "We have to get her out of there!" Screamed the blond, running to the control panel and opening the door, the lights to the room now on but flickering dangerously. As Lyla went to go into the cell a stray spark of electricity hit her dead in her chest, sending the girl flying into the wall behind them. She wasn't moving but Daisy could see the rise and falling of her chest.

As Daisy debated on what to do, she eyed the door cautiously. Natasha followed her line of sight.

"I really hope you're not thinking what I think you are right now Speedy," Natasha warned, grabbing the slightly taller woman's arm. "You saw what just happened to Lyla."

"I know Nat, but I need to get to Karley. Trust me?" She asked the redhead who still hadn't let go of her arm. Natasha sighed, before letting her go and running to check on Lyla.

Daisy turned her attention to the duo sitting inside the cell, the sparks growing as the lights started to dangerously flicker, a warning. Focusing on the vibrations in the air around her was difficult, the sparks of electricity were unpredictable, but she had to do something. As she took a slow breath, familiar vibrations formed an airtight protective circle around her and she took a daring steps inside the cell.

The electricity continued hitting her body, but the vibrations redirected them into the walls harmlessly. Daisy was thankful this cell had been made to contain literal Gods.

As she approached her sister and Strange she could feel the air thicken, making it almost difficult to breath, but she pushed on until she was only a few feet away from them. She could feel the heat radiating off of them, as she determined it was coming from the joined hands. Taking a leap of faith, she reached for their hands, hoping to break them out of whatever this was. As she touched their hands however, a wave of white hot pain took over, screaming, she couldn't let go, instead her mind felt like it was ripped from her body.

Strange was confused, to say the least, when he saw the memory before him. It was a young Karley, obviously as she had the same soft brown curls of hair. She was swinging on the playground, se couldn't be older than five, as two adults watched from the park bench, kids running everywhere.

Looking around, he realized he was alone. Walking through the playground he passed through everything, seemingly a ghost, as he approached the young girl. She was all alone, the other kids playing a game without her. At the same time he reached Karley, another child ran up to her. A little boy with wild curls of black hair snuck up behind Karley, who was now gaining some height as she swung. As she went back the little boy grabbed hold of her shirt and pulled her off the swing, the young girl landing with a sickening crack on the hard ground.

As he waited for her to cry at what was a surely broken arm, she instead let a few tears fall, and stood up, cradling her arm to her chest. The little boy ran off before she could talk to him, laughing as he went back to his group of friends, all of them pointing at Karley.

Suddenly the image shifted and Strange found himself standing in the halls of a school. The same little girl, slightly older now, walked by and into a classroom. Curious, he followed. Although these weren't the memories he was looking for, he couldn't do anything to speed them up. He was stuck here to watch the young girl grow up, though he took relief in the fact that the time stone would make it feel as though only minutes had passed when they returned.

So Strange watched slowly, as day after day passed, the young girl grew older and older. He watched the good and the bad, and everything in between. Strange witnessed the day Karley had met a little girl with her blond hair braided elegantly.

"Hey! I'm new here, I believe my lockers this one next to yours," she greeted warmly in the halls of the school, arms full with books. Karley slammed her locker shut, before turning to face the girl.

"Let me guess, Theo sent you over here right?" Confusion riddled the girls face at the hostility.

"Actually, Theo is my cousin, but between me and you, I think he has a crush on you," she whispered the last part, putting her stuff into the locker next to Karley's.

"Is that so?" Asked the brunette, finally giving the girl a look down. "Well tell your cousin I'm not interested."

The blond giggled, watching as Karley finally smiled, shutting her locker.

"I'm Karley, it's nice to meet you."

"Likewise, Karley. My name's Lyla."

Strange watched years go by as Karley and Lyla became the best of friends, until the girls finally graduated. He took everything in as the memories shifted to her time in boot camp. After a few months he watched as she got on a plane with her friends, grimacing when he recalled that Karley would be the only one to return from this deployment. More months went by as he stayed in the desert watching them train, mess around, go on patrols, get into fights.

He had to admit, it was a scary thing to watch when he saw fire fights break out between Karley and the enemy, though he obviously knew she survived. More months passed and he watched as one memory seemed to glow with fondness.

"Chyna what are you doing!" Karley laughed, entering a tent and taking her gear off. "Get off of him before you kill the poor kid, he just got here!" The kid, Chyna, slowly got off of another, scrawnier boy, brushing himself off.

"The new boot needs to learn what it's like here Corporal! I was just giving him a lesson is all," he said, helping the other kid off the ground. He couldn't have been older than twenty.

"Is that right? What lesson were you teaching him?" Karley asked, walking up to the two younger boys.

"Well Lance Corporal Tanner here was talking about how he's such a formidable wrestler, so I put him in his place," Chyna said, still laughing as he shoved the scrawny kid again.

"You just got the jump on me, that's all!" Tanner said, straightening his uniform out. "I could totally take you in a rematch dude."

"Oh yea?" Challenged Chyna as he approached the boy again, ready for round two. Just as he did though, Karley kicked his legs out from under him and pinned Chyna on the ground. They rolled around for a minute before the girl finally pinned him, giving him a noogie as he was defenseless now.

"Stop torturing the new boots!" She said, finally getting off of him, everyone else in the tent cheering her on.

"Corporal Danvers!" A man said, walking into the room, everyone sitting up a little straighter from where they were cleaning their weapons. "I need you to check everyone's gear before we go out tomorrow. The Lieutenant wants to make sure we're ready to leave at first light with no delays. Also check on Doc and make sure he knows we're leaving earlier than expected."

"Roger that Sergeant. I'll make sure we're all ready for the morning," she said, turning to the boys who all groaned at the news of having to leave earlier than expected for their patrol.

"Tomorrows supposed to be our half day though Corporal," one of them complained, standing up with his weapon as he gathered his gear, the rest of the Marines following suit.

"I know Mckean, but we're almost done, we go home in less than a month, we just need to tough it out a little longer."

Strange frowned, knowing that none of them would. Just as the night was shifting into the next day, another body magically appeared next to his, the ghostly essence the same as his. He looked over to see Daisy standing next to him.

"Daisy?" He questioned in confusion. "How'd you get here?"

"I touched your hands in the cell, which is not an easy thing to do considering your magic is shooting around everywhere. I'm not sure how much longer Avengers Tower can take the strain," she replied, watching as her sister and a team of Marines were patrolling a village. "Is this..?" She trailed off, not wanting to say it. Strange nodded his head. "Where's Karley?"

"She's in her body still, reliving her life from her point of view. We're just here to observe," he stated, watching grimly as gunfire went off, killing two Marines instantly, the rest scrambling for cover. Daisy's hearts skipped a beat as she watched the horror in front of her unfold.

"Corporal what are we doing!" A kid yelled at Karley, who was deep in thought for a moment before coming to a conclusion.

"I'm going to lay down some cover fire, Lance Corporal Chyna is going to take charge of the rest of you and lead you towards the humvees. When I give you the signal, you keep your fucking heads down and haul ass!" She yelled to her Marines as bullets flew through the wall next to them.

"No Corporal, you'll get mowed down by that damn machine gun before you even get a shot off!" Another man yelled to her sister, but the girls mind was made up.

"We don't have a fucking choice Doc! I'm in charge, and that's an order! You do what I say! Now everyone get ready!"

Strange and Daisy watched as they tried to make a run for it, finally getting to the Humvees. Daisy knew that her sister had been shot, but watching it play out in front of her was terrifying. Watching the bombs go off, Karley flying through the air and into a wall, barely breathing. The older sister had seen her fair share of horror over the years with S.H.I.E.L.D. and had been in many gunfights, but this was a war, one that her sister had been in. Her younger sister, who she wished more than anything she had found sooner.

"We both know what comes next Daisy, are you sure you want to watch this?" Strange asked carefully. Daisy just stood there in horror as the Taliban dragged her sisters form into a truck, the image shifting once more to a dark cell, barely lit from a small window no bigger than her arm.

"Why can't we stop this? She doesn't need to go through this again," she told the magician, tearing her eyes away as the enemy tortured her sister.

"Because I haven't gotten what I came into Karley's mind for. She's the one who wanted this Daisy, it's too late to stop it anyways," he explained. "How much time has passed outside?"

"Only a couple minutes, I think," she said. The two of them stood there for what felt like days, which turned into weeks, then months as finally her sister had been rescued and taken home. They watched on and on until Karley reunited with Lyla and her parents. More weeks went on and finally it was the day of their hike to the cave. Daisy instantly recognized the obelisk in the center of the cave, watching as Karley and Lyla went through terrigenesis.

Finally, the image shifted to what had to be the Red Dawns facility. Strange and her watched closely, observing everything they could as more days passed.

"This is what we came for Daisy," he said, watching as Karley tried fighting against the men and woman who strapped her down to a chair, injecting her with the red liquid she told them about. Her first mind wipe. A black woman walked in, wearing a skirt and blouse, clutching a red book to her chest.

"Is she ready?" She asked someone on their medical staff. He nodded his head, and they watched as the woman placed down a recorder before pressing play.

Longing, rusted, seventeen, daybreak, furnace, nine, benign, homecoming, one, freight car.

Those words were etched into Daisy's mind as they repeated over and over, for days and days. As the days went on, Rumlow repeatedly trained with Surge, making sure she was ready to go into the field. Scientists took blood every day, and her sister had another trainer to help her with her powers. The days dragged on into weeks, the same process going on, until Karley went on her first mission, taking down an Inhuman that had these beautiful white wings, then another, and another, some being dragged to the labs, and some of the more dangerous ones being put down.

Suddenly, everything around Surge and Daisy went black, the same feeling of their minds being thrust out of Karley's head. The first thing Daisy noticed was her hands were on fire, it felt as if she'd roasted them over an open flame.

The second was that Strange and her sister were sitting next to her, but Karley's eyes were still closed. Strange however, was blinking rapidly, adjusting to the sudden shift. He didn't let go of the younger sisters hands though, not knowing what could happen.

"What happened?" Daisy asked in concern.

"I don't know, I think your sister shut us out," he answered, magic still flying around the trio.

Natasha watched from outside of the cell as a stray bolt of electricity hit Daisy, sending her flying into the wall of the cell just like Lyla had. She slumped to the ground, unmoving.

"Shit," the Russian spy cursed, bolting for the door, but stopping abruptly when she couldn't move any closer without the danger of getting struck herself. "Strange you need to shut it down!" She shouted over the chaos.

Karley hadn't meant to cut the connection off from Strange, but after going through all of her memories, she couldn't hold on to that fleeing bond. She knew she was alone.

As she sat in the middle of the training room after another successful mission, a figure walked in.

"Surge," he said, grabbing her face in his metal hand. "You know who I am, doll?" He asked. Surge nodded her head. "You know your mission then?" Another nod. "I was afraid of that."

Karley watched as he subtly hit a button on his belt, a small shockwave sent throughout the room. She recognized it as an EMP, but she didn't understand what was going on and why he shut the cameras off.

"We don't have much time," he said, quickly taking his mask off, revealing a man with long brown hair, a bit shorter than her own, and a scruffy beard. She's seen him before, but she can't recall where. "You're just like me kid, I'm here to help. You've been getting memories of people I'm sure?"

Karley nodded her head, remembering the strange girl that claimed to be her sister.

"How'd you know?" She asked. He gave her a sad smile.

"Like I said doll, you're just like me. Go through with the whatever mission they have planned for you tomorrow. After you're done, break free and meet me at St. Kilda Coffee shop, I'll be there if you want answers. If you can't make it, tell the barista there that Bucky sent you. She'll give you new directions for a meet."

"Why are you doing this?"

"Because," he put his mask back on, letting her face go gently as she stared into his mask, identical to hers. The only difference were the color of the lens, where hers were blue, his were red. "You and I are the same. I'm not gonna let them do to you what they did to me."

The doors burst open and Rumlow walked in, flanked by his guards.

"Winter Soldier, it's good to have you back with us. Mrs. Frederic needs to talk to you. Go see her."

He didn't say anything but gave a slight nod and left for the door, stopping for a second to give Karley a look.

"See you later, Surge."
