"I can't believe your girlfriend just grounded me," Karley grumbled, sitting down next to her sister on the jet. "I just did something out of this world!"
"Yea right after you were shot," Daisy whipped her head to her younger sister, throwing her hands in the air for effect.
"Well Lyla healed me again before I came, look there's practically nothing left! Just a little scar," Karley unzipped her suit to prove her point. Not only had Lyla managed to heal her most recent wound, but the other three gunshot wounds that she had received in Afghanistan were also nothing but a small pink scar. Daisy sighed, seeing that Lyla did indeed manage to heal the wounds up, but she was still unhappy.
"What you did, however amazing it was, was also very stupid," Daisy stated, helping Karley zip her suit back up before handing her mask back. "You had no clue what you were doing, I don't even fully understand what you did, but it was dangerous."
Karley was sitting there grinning like a dork, raising her eyebrows at her sister.
"You even admitted it was cool," she smirked, standing up to talk to Stark about what teleporting had been like. Daisy watched the two of them fangirl over her younger sister, Stark trying to explain to her what other possible things she could do.
"She'll be alright, Speedy," said the spy, who had crept her way over silently seeing the older sibling brooding in anger. "Besides, it wouldn't hurt to have her in there with us. At least we'll be able to keep an eye on her."
"I know, it's just, like I said, I don't know how to do this whole sibling thing," she mumbled, taking Natasha's hand in her own, turning to face the older woman. "But enough about my insane little sister. How are you doing?"
"Oh I'm itching for a fight with these bastards after last night," she answered honestly as she started braiding her long red hair. "I only braid my hair when I'm serious."
"Oh I'm sure, I don't think I've ever seen you with your hair braided. Would you like help?" Daisy offered, moving to take the redheads hair from her fumbling hands.
"And where did you learn to braid, Ms. Johnson?" Natasha asked, leaning into the Inhuman to make her job easier.
"I used to do the younger girls' hair while I was in the orphanage. We thought if we braided our hair, it would make us look more sophisticated so someone would take us home," she admitted, tying the hair off before pressing a kiss to the redheads temple.
"Mmm, and does it make me look sophisticated?" Natasha said, leaning in playfully, capturing Daisy's lips with her own before slowly leaning back, leaving the younger girl gaping like a fish. She loved that she had that effect on her. "Close your mouth before you catch a fly hon," she instructed, lightly pushing her chin up for her.
"Oh - right, yea, I knew that," she cleared her throat, tearing her eyes away from the redhead so she wouldn't see the deep blush creeping it's way onto her face. "And yes, you look very sophisticated."
"Hey little Johnson," Tony said, grabbing her mask that he had fixed up from her. "I made some changes to your suit in case you didn't notice. But the biggest one is that I made a sound reflector, so if anyone tries to say those magic words to you, those specific words won't make it to your ears. Just try not to get stuck with a needle just in case, yea?" He handed the mask back to her.
"Thank you Tony. I really appreciate this," she said sincerely, thankful she wouldn't have to worry about facing Mrs. Frederic this time. "Anything cool I should know about it?"
"Uhh, no. Not yet at least. Maybe when we get back to the tower and test out your powers, I'll be able to make some more changes."
"That sounds good to me, as long as the suit doesn't explode," she laughed, hitting him in the shoulder as she did so. He wasn't laughing, instead he was grimacing. "Wait. This thing isn't going to explode is it?" She asked, freezing in place.
"It should be fine!" Tony said unconvincingly. "Fitz and I fixed it, I'm pretty sure. Just stay away from fire just in case."
"Alright team, looks like we're slowing down," Sam announced from the cockpit. "We're approaching an abandoned subway tunnel, we're gonna have to land and go on foot from here."
"Suit up," Cap said, buckling his helmet down. "It's go time."
"Coulson? May? Do you copy?" Daisy asked into the comms as her, Karley, Natasha, Tony, Steve and Sam made their way through the subway.
"We copy Daisy, though the signal is a really scrambled," May's soothing voice answered.
"Comms will always fail," Karley mumbled, remembering the saying from the Marines. They weren't wrong.
"We're approaching the entrance now," Natasha whispered as they all surrounded the door. "Remember team, we get them out, NYPD is waiting on either end of the tunnels to grab any stragglers and help the prisoners."
"We also have a S.H.I.E.L.D. unit stationed outside for any unstable Inhumans, which we will be taking in," Coulson reminded them.
Steve nodded his head to Daisy, who quickly blasted the door down, walking into the chaos that was the Red Dawn.
What none of them were expecting was the halls to be empty, red lights flashing in warning but no sound coming off of them.
"Proceed with caution," Steve said warily as they walked through the hallway, checking rooms. Karley noticed how they all stuck her in the back of the group, but she couldn't complain. She was just happy they didn't lock her on the Quinjet, not that that could stop her as she's already proven.
"Going for the second door," Daisy said, blasting down the next door which led to a much bigger room, also empty. "I don't like this. Where'd they go, we were right behind them."
"Okay team, split up and search the rest of the compound. Radio in if you find anything," Steve said, breaking off with Natasha towards what looked to be the cafeteria. Tony and Sam took off through the upper floors, leaving Karley and Daisy by themselves on the bottom floor.
As Karley took in her surroundings, she was remembering the layout. She knew where they were, because this was the same exact place she woke up after she went through terregenesis.
"It's this way," she whispered as she took off towards the staircase leading even lower.
"Karley slow down!" Daisy whisper screamed, taking off for after her sister. "Slow down, we don't know what's down here."
"I do," Karley responded, the duo going down an impossible amount of stairs before reaching the bottom.
Up above them everything was cement, but down here, the bright whiteness of marble greeted their eyes, set behind a set of double doors. With a brief peak of what lays beyond them, Daisy's jaw dropped. There were rows and rows of body bags on metal operating tables, blood dripping down and splattering against the marble tiles. Stray arms and legs dangled outside of their body bags, one arm had been covered in scales, another in gills. These were Inhumans.
Running inside the room, the only sound was the sisters breathing at the sight before them.
"We're too late," Karley whispered. It felt like her heart had been ripped out of her body. All of the Inhumans, all of these people, were dragged to this very lab by her own hands. She slowly walked towards one of the bodies, face down but their head was sticking out. She recognized the girls hair though, braided the same way with the same yellow scrunchy as the day Karley dragged her out of her house. Without hesitation she pulled the sheet down, exposing her back.
Even in the dimly lit basement, with help from her improved mask, Karley could clearly see where two giant holes lay in the woman's upper back. Those holes used to have two beautiful, enormous white and gold wings. She remembers the day that the woman, Maya she recalled, had tried to fly away from the Red Dawn.
"Take her down Surge!" Rumlow screamed in her ear, the rest of her team shooting at the girl. Without saying a word, Surge put her hand out, watching as energy wrapped itself around Maya's legs, pulling her to the ground violently.
Jumping up, Maya had wrapped her wings around the rest of her body, shielding herself from the bullets as she made a beeline for Surge. Unbothered, the masked girl simply cracked her neck and walked towards the winged Inhuman, as soon as she was close enough to blast her, however, Maya opened her wings, sending Surge flying ten feet into the air, crashing through the window of a nearby house. She could hear the occupants screaming as she jumped back out the window, marching towards her target with a purpose once more.
This time, though, Surge grabbed onto the girls wings using her energy. She remembers Maya screaming in pain as she ripped them from her back, the now free, bloody white and gold wings skidding to a stop in front of her team. Maya fell to the ground, wailing in pain, trying to clutch her back.
"Damn Surge, you're better at my job than I am," one of the masked men said, kicking the wings on the ground.
"Good job Surge," Rumlow praised, the rest of her team loading the wings and a still screaming Maya into their van, the last thing Surge saw was the yellow scrunchy, splattered in blood.
"I'm so sorry," Karley whispered, gently reaching out and placing her gloved hand on the girls back. She was thankful she had her mask on so her sister couldn't see the few tears that slowly slid down her cheeks. "I'm going to make this right."
"Karley," Daisy said just behind her, placing a hand on the taller girls shoulder. "We need to keep moving."
Nodding, the sisters made their way through the rest of the lab which then led into the cells where Karley had woken up. They were all empty as well.
"Let's go back upstairs, there's no -" Karley was interrupted when a voice came through their comms, followed shortly after by a loud crashing sound, the ceiling above them shaking slightly.
"We found Mrs. Frederic! Need you girls up here now!" Sam screamed frantically.
"We're all the way on top of the subway system!" Stark said more calmly, but they could tell he was struggling with something.
"On our way," Daisy said, both of them taking off in a sprint.
"Be there in one minute Tony," Steve said next.
It took Daisy and Karley a little over a minute to run up the staircase to the main room they first came through, before Daisy grabbed her sister and launched them through the hole that was now in the ceiling.
As they landed the sight in front of them was chaotic.
The sun was on the horizon, casting the cement roof they stood on in an orange haze. In front of them was Mrs. Frederic and Enzo, along with Red Dawn Agents. Enzo quickly ran his way inside of the Quinjet, escorted by a few masked men. Bullets were flying everywhere, even rockets were going off towards Stark and Sam in the air, keeping the boys distracted as they fired back, only to be met by a thin forcefield protecting the machine gun nests with the men inside.
Glancing to the side they could see Natasha and Steve fighting off the rest of the men that weren't inside the nests, easily taking down anyone who stood against them. They were quite the force to be reckoned with, Steve throwing his shield to Natasha who easily caught it, just in time to stop the bullets directed at them.
"As Cap said, let's do this," Daisy shouted to her sister over all the gunfire. "Stay safe sis."
Karley watched as Daisy shot herself towards one of the machine gun nests, quickly getting to work as she quaked the forcefield open, engaging them in hand to hand.
But as Karley stood there, taking in the chaos in front of her, she felt frozen in time, only to jump back into reality when a rocket bounced off of Steve's shield, heading towards her. She easily rolled out of the way as she took off towards the real person of interest as she was making her way towards the Quinjet.
"Frederic!" She shouted, marching towards the woman on a warpath. The lady in question turned to see who could be calling her name, before smiling.
"Karley! It's been too long dear," she cooed, stepping off of the ramp and walking towards her.
"Mom what are you doing!" Enzo shouted, his dreadlocks blowing in the turbulence of the jet engines, a case in one hand. That must be the obelisk, Karley decided.
"I'm taking the obelisk," Karley stated, stopping about twenty feet away from her target. The anger inside of the Inhuman bubbled to the surface as her arms lit up with her familiar blue energy. "You're not going anywhere. You've lost, give up."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, Karley. You won't even remember this by the morning," Mrs. Frederic said, pulling out a gun she had tucked in her blouse. It wasn't any ordinary gun though. It was the size of a pistol, but where the magazine should've been, there was a modified magazine that held small red vials. Panic overtook Karley at the realization that her finger was squeezing the trigger.
"Not today," she whispered, more to herself than anyone as her eyes began to glow a blue, energy bleeding out and into her mask. Touching Vision's stone had really juiced her up.
Watching as time slightly slowed down, not as much as it did when she astral projected, but just a tad bit to the point where she easily threw her arm out, energy shooting the vial midway between the two of them. The glass shattered before falling to the ground, it's contents vaporized.
"Look at you!" She said proudly, lowering her gun once more, knowing it was useless. "Your powers are growing. Keep it up Karley, you will please he who is to come with your skillset. Don't worry though dear, I'll be back for you." She turned on her heels and started heading for the ramp, not at all concerned with the Inhuman she turned her back on.
The anger from the past six months had now boiled over the top at the woman who had ruined Karley's life as her whole body began radiating with energy, the blue hue overtaking the orange of the sunset.
"You're not going anywhere!" She screamed, charging towards her target.
Daisy's head shot up at hearing her sisters scream, though she knew it was one of anger. She hadn't known Karley for very long, but the amount of anger in her voice was concerning. She watched as her sister charged at Mrs. Frederic who was walking away. Something wasn't right though, no one was that stupid. Then she realized.
Where was Elliot.
"Karley stop!" She screamed, running towards her sister.
Daisy was too late though, watching as a shadow floated up from beneath the floor, grabbing her sister by her suit. The two of them disappeared through the floor where Elliot had come from. Daisy instantly took off for the staircase, only stopping when Natasha grabbed her arm.
"Daisy we need an Inhuman to grab the obelisk, I'll get your sister, I promise," Nat said, out of breath. Seeing Daisy about to take off for the stairs again, the redhead kissed her. "Trust me?"
Daisy numbly nodded her head, before turning towards the Quinjet with Stark and Sam by her side. Steve grabbed Natasha before jumping through the hole Stark had blasted in the ceiling minutes before.
Karley felt herself dissipate into nothingness, darkness taking her over as the mysterious shadow man dragged her through the ceiling. It had felt like when she teleported earlier, only with a much, much darker power source. Then she watched as the cement ground quickly approached, before turning to the man who was on top of her. Hands glowing, she released a powerful blast into his chest, causing him to release her. Only problem was, she couldn't fly.
Pain exploded in her head and back as she slammed into the cement.
"Ohhh," she groaned, pushing herself to her knees. "That one hurt."
Natasha and Steve landed on the ground just in time to see Karley standing up.
"What the hell happened?" Steve asked her, holding his hands up for an explanation. Elliot was gone, no where to be seen.
"I have no clue!" Karley groaned, still in pain from the fall which had broken her concentration, the energy that was radiating off of her now gone. "Where did he go?"
Before Steve or Natasha could answer however, they watched as Elliot jumped out of ground below Karley once more, but instead of dragging her down like he did the first time, he flew her into the ceiling, smashing her once again before disappearing, leaving the other Inhuman to fall ten feet to the ground again, this time landing on her stomach.
"Shit!" Karley screamed, jumping up quickly this time. He was messing with her at this point. Karley ran over to Steve and Nat, turning her back, the two of them doing the same as they stood in a triangle, all facing outwards as they scanned for any sign of movement.
"How are we supposed to fight a shadow?" Natasha mumbled, reloading her pistol, clutching it to her chest. Steve tightened his shield to his arm, eyes scanning the mostly empty room around them, which thankfully only had a few tables and chairs.
"I just need one good shot at him," Karley said, creating two balls of energy in her hands, ready for him to try that shit with her one more time.
"We need to make our way to the stairs - oof!" Steve was cut of as Elliot apparated out of thin air, punching the Captain across the face. Steve went to return the favor but he was gone just as fast as he came. A few tense seconds passed when he did the same thing, this time to Natasha. This game continued, Elliot appearing in front of them, hitting them then leaving, as the trio stood there bruised and bloodied.
"You two go for the stairs, I'll cover you," Karley said, throwing a ball of energy at Elliot before he could hit her. The ball created a hole in the wall, not finding it's mark.
"No way," Natasha argued, remembering her promise to Daisy. "We all move slowly, don't break the circle, don't let him grab you."
As soon as the words let the redheads lips, a set of hands grabbed the spies feet, pulling her down and through the ground.
"Natasha!" Steve screamed, the soldier following Karley down to the lab where they had to have gone. The two of them looked for any signs of the redhead but saw nothing.
"This way," Karley whispered, leading the blond towards the cells slowly, cautiously, hands extended and ready to blast anything.
"How do we deal with something we can't hit?" He asked. Inhumans was new territory for the Super Soldier.
"I can hit him with my energy, I did it earlier. I just can't get a clean shot off," Karley whispered as they finally made it to the cells. The two of them silently moved down from cell to cell, sighing in relief when the found Natasha. She was cuffed to the walls, her pistol in pieces on the ground in front of her.
"You okay Nat?" Steve asked, checking around for a set of keys.
"I'm fine, just pissed off," she said, before one of her cuffs came undone, going to work on the other one.
"Wha- how'd you do that?" Karley asked in amazement.
"Stick with me kid, I'll teach you," she said with a friendly wink.
"I can't find keys anywhere around,' Steve said, coming back to the front of the cell as Natasha got the second cuff off, walking to the door of the cell.
"No need," Karley answered, projecting into the astral plane and absorbing the energy off of the bulky lock on the cell, knowing that it would weaken. Moving to jump back into her physical body, she bumped into someone, startling her. She didn't dare look up when she noticed the floating feet off the ground, his flowing black robes not touching the ground. Slowly, her gaze trailed upwards to his face, but there was only a mask, identical to her own. Small tufts of brown hair were poking out from under his hood. "How the hell-"
She never finished though, when his fist connected to her jaw sending her mask flying off her face, her head spinning. Risking a glance to her body she could see that her mask had fallen off as well, a small trickle of blood slowly trailing down her nose. Natasha was standing there, looking at her in concern. Karley was cut off from worrying about the outside world when Elliot grabbed her by her neck, lifting her off the ground and bringing her to his eye level.
Her hands instinctually went to his wrist, trying to lift herself up so she could breath. Alas, she was helpless as she lashed out, kicking him and punching anything she could, managing to undo his mask. She was sure she would gasp in surprise at the sight that greeted her, but she had no oxygen.
Underneath his mask where she was expecting to see the same face as his brother, Elliot's face was nothing but shadows. No eyes, no mouth, no nose. Just shadows pouring off his face. Somehow, he managed to growl at the fact that his mask was removed. Karley might've laughed at the thought of someone with no mouth or nose growling, but her vision was becoming blurry.
"Elliot," a voice called out from behind the two. Karley couldn't see who it was with her fading vision, Elliot's grip tightening as he spun around. "Put her down before I make you put her down."
What felt like eternity later, which was really only a few seconds, Karley was dropped to the ground landing on her back. As she lay there trying to put oxygen back into her lungs, she weakly looked to her left to see none other than Natasha Romanoff fighting against Elliot. Confused on how the shadow man even got here, Karley looked back to their physical bodies, only to see a set of shadowy hands gripping her feet.
Well, her forcefield was only meant to keep out biological things like humans, so it made sense that Elliot got through. She could also see where her physical body was now falling to her knees, Natasha's hand on her shoulder through the cell bars, Steve reaching for her on the opposite side, all of them inside her forcefield. Not a moment later the Super Soldier popped into the astral plane, looking around for only a split second before noticing Natasha fighting the shadow man and jumping in to help.
Karley lay there helplessly trying to get her breathing under control for a few moments before deciding it was good enough, pushing herself off the ground. Steve and Natasha both worked in tandem, taking turns attacking Elliot, one after the other as not to give him the chance to fight back.
"Why isn't he just disappearing out of here?" Steve asked between punches.
"Powers d-don't work i-in here," Karley choked out, running to jump on Elliot's back as he was turned to her. She twisted mid air to grab his arm, pulling them both to the ground, holding him in an armbar. He was a big man though, and was desperately trying to break free before Steve and Natasha helped pin him down.
"Now what!" Steve asked frantically, pinning the legs down.
"We wait," Karley yelled, grunting when she received an elbow to her stomach. "On my signal, we book it back to our physical forms."
"What's the signal?" The blond asked again, freaked out by his surroundings that were all dream like, giving off a blue hue.
"Trust me Rogers, you'll know it," Natasha said, catching on to Karley's plan.
After another 30 seconds passed, Karley's nose started bleeding, an early warning that she was reaching her maximum time in the astral plane. As if on cue, their surroundings started to collapse in on itself just like it had the other night. The gate out of the astral plane was closing. Karley waited until the collapsing ground, which led into nothingness, got only a few feet away from them.
"Now!" She screamed, the three of them lifting and kicking Elliot backwards, watching as he was swallowed by the blackness. "Run!"
As the three booked it for their bodies, the ground falling out from under them, Karley felt a pang of sadness at what she had just done. She left Elliot's soul in the astral plane, breaking his connection to the material plane. Just as the ground collapsed out from under the trio, they all reached their bodies, the familiar feeling of being thrown out of the astral plane and into the material plane leaving them all with vertigo.
Opening her eyes, Karley had to blink multiple times to adjust to the brightness. Which was odd, because when she left it wasn't bright. Shooting up she looked to her feet where she last saw Elliot grabbing her, shocked to find his body laying there unmoving.
"I've said it before and I'll say it again," Cap groaned, sitting up as well. "I hate magic."
"Well on the flip side, we got Elliot," Natasha shrugged, seemingly fine as she kicked the lock on the door, snapping the weakened metal in half.
"I don't know if we do," Karley admitted, crawling over to check on the boy. As she reached for his pulse, however, his hand shot out and caught hers, causing her to scream in fright. Steve jumped up, ready for a fight, before the hand abruptly let go of Karley's, his body sinking into the ground. Grabbing her mask from the ground, Karley jumped up to join the other two, brushing herself off, embarrassed from screaming.
"What was that Danvers?" Nat teased as they made their way to the stairs. "I thought Marine's weren't scared of anything?"
"Shut up Romanoff."
"Aww did he scare little Johnson," she cooed, pinching the taller woman's cheek as Karley swatted her hand away.
"He caught me off guard, that's all."
"It's okay to admit when you're scared Danvers, there's no -"
"Steve if you don't stop talking I will shove that shield so far up -"
"Don't threaten Rogers, we just saved your life."
"Natasha if you weren't dating my sister I swear to God," Karley threatened, hobbling up the stairs as they made their way to the roof.
When they reached the roof they were concerned when they saw that the jet and Mrs. Frederic was gone. Looking around in the darkness, Karley lit her hands up to provide some light. It didn't take them long to spot Tony sitting on the roof, sparking some wires together to try and hotwire his wrecked suit. Sam sat not far away from the billionaire, clutching his arm to his chest in pain.
When Daisy saw the other trio approaching she ran over to her sister, enveloping her in a tight hug.
"I was worried when I saw Elliot take you through the roof," she admitted, wiping her shoulder length hair out of her face from where the wind was blowing it. "You're okay though?" She asked, eyes raking over the taller siblings body, instantly in mom mode.
"I'm fine!" Karley said laughing, gently removing Daisy's arms from their search. "Thanks for checking on me though. What happened to the jet?"
"They had another inhuman with them," Stark called out from over his shoulder, eyes never leaving his suit. After a few more tries, the suit finally lit up. "Ah ha!" He exclaimed in excitement.
"Another inhuman?" Steve asked, once more strapping his shield to his back, approaching Sam who was trying to fix his broken wings.
"Yea, it was weird. He created the portals," Sam continued explaining. "He would create one, run through it, then the portal would appear somewhere else. He was an animal, man. Tore my wings right up, wrecked Tony's suit pretty bad, beat Daisy up a bit. Did y'all at least get Elliot?" He saw the look on their face which told him everything he needed to know. "Damn, so nothing went our way then. We need to get back to the Quinjet and hope that we can beat them to Pennsylvania."
"Let's get a move on then," Steve said, grabbing Sam's broken wings and leading the way to the jet. As they all sat down, Natasha offering to fly due to Sam's broken arm, they called up May and Coulson.
"We lost comms pretty quickly, what happened?" May asked from the video call, scanning the group in front of her. They were all beat to shit.
The team took a minute to debrief them on what transpired and where they were heading now, Wanda and Vision joining them on the call. Halfway through the debriefing however, a kid hopped off the elevator in a red and blue suit. Everyone was staring at him, waiting for an explanation.
"Oh sorry! I was just looking for Mr. Stark. I can come back later!" He said, turning around to do just that.
"Peter it's fine, we're actually talking to Tony right now," Wanda told the boy.
"Are you sure that this isn't important Avengers stuff I shouldn't be listening to? Because I really can come back later -"
"Parker shut up and get on the phone, we could actually use your help," Tony demanded, the kid who Karley and Daisy could now see was no older than twenty doing just that. It took a bit of squinting but they could see that he was actually Spider-Man, an up and coming hero in New York.
"Of course Mr. Stark! How can I help?" He asked, his brown eyes scanning the faces over the call.
"If they make an army of mind controlled Inhumans, there's no telling how powerful they'll be," Coulson resumed talking after the interruption, rubbing his head in thought.
"Vision and I are hopping on a Quinjet now," Wanda said, going to do just that before May stopped her.
"You'll never make it in time," she told the younger girl.
"Unless you can," Tony thought out loud, dropping his tools from repairing his suit and walking over to Karley. "Think you could teleport again little Johnson?"
Karley looked baffled, looking around at the faces staring at her expectantly.
"I-I mean yea, I could certainly try. I should have enough power to teleport back, but I'll have to borrow some more from Vision to get the rest of us back here," she explained, gesturing to the android.
"It didn't harm me at all last time, so I don't see why not," he answered. "Didn't you teleport for the first time earlier today?"
"Yup," Karley answered honestly, standing up and shaking the nerves lose. She should have enough energy to get to Avengers tower again, but the question was who should she use as a tether? She used Daisy last time because they shared the same blood, but this time she didn't have anyone she shared a deep connection with. "Let's do this."
"Okay little Johnson, you remember what we talked about earlier?" Tony asked, going over a few things as the girl prepped herself.
Daisy watched the two of them prep for what she was sure was going to be a dangerous endeavor.
"You're not worried?" Natasha asked, seeing where the older sisters eyes were focused.
"Oh I am," Daisy admitted, watching as her sister closed her eyes and started to focus. "But I also know that my sister's got to learn, just like I did when I first got my powers."
"And how did you learn?" The redhead asked curiously, watching as Karley's energy flowed off her body, engulfing the girl until she wasn't visible anymore. Then the energy all at once zapped inwards to where Karley's body was, but the girl was gone.
"Yes!" Stark cheered, pumping his arm in the air. "That was amazing! Imagine all the science we could learn from this!"
"Trial and error," Daisy responded, smiling at the redhead.
May, Coulson, Vision, Wanda and Peter watched Tony coach Karley into teleporting and before they knew it they heard a screaming coming from the top of the ceiling. Looking up they were confused to see a small blue portal of energy spit the girl out as she flailed ungracefully through the air towards the ground for the third time in the last hour.
Before she could hit the ground, however, a hand grabbed hers and slowed her descent to the ground, placing her down safely. Karley looked to see that it was Peter that had saved her from hitting the ground.
"Dude, it's so cool to meet you!" She squealed, her girly side showing. She couldn't help it, her and her platoon would watch every you-tube video they could find about Spider-Man. "Thanks for the save by the way. In case you haven't noticed, this whole teleporting thing is new."
"It's so cool to meet you too!" He said, just as excited as he stuck his hand out. "I'm Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man."
"Karley Danvers, or as the news dubbed me Surge," she shook his hand as the two of them joined the rest of the group at the console. They were all staring at the two of them.
"What?" Peter asked subconsciously checking his suit to make sure nothing was ripped.
"Nothing," May mumbled, turning her attention to talking to Wanda and Vision about the crystals and what they can do.
"It's not every day you see someone fall through a portal before being caught by a web slinger," Coulson told the two bluntly, having recovered from his staring.
"Alright Karley, are you ready to get going?" Vision asked, approaching them.
"Bring the kid too," Stark hollered through the phone. "We could use him. Tell him he could use the training too."
"Of course I'll help Mr. Stark!" He said excitedly, grinning like a fool. "Wait, what exactly am I helping with? Where are we going?" He whispered to Karley.
"Oh buddy, it's a long story. I'll tell you on the plane, but we don't have much time. I'm ready whenever you guys are!" She said to Wanda and Vision.
"By the way Danvers," Coulson said, wheeling himself over to the girl. She winced at the last name, no ones called her that since she was in the Marines. "You're grounded when you come back."
Karley groaned, rolling her eyes. "Why does everyone think they can ground me? I'm twenty-four years old!"
"I'm ready whenever you are Karley," Vision repeated, floating over to her. "Do not worry about me, it had no effect at all the last time."
Karley thought about if it was even safe for herself to absorb the power off that stone, not knowing if it was safe or not. When she was getting ready to teleport to Avengers Tower a few minutes ago, instead of focusing on the general vicinity of the tower, she felt the essence of the stone calling out to her.
Not Vision, the stone.
It was weird listening to the stone call for her, but she brushed the thought off, blaming it on the fact that she was absorbing energy from the stone, and a large amount of it at that, so of course her and the stone were connected. She quickly and easily gathered power from the stone and Vision, Wanda and Peter formed a tight circle around her.
"Just focus on a tether to someone you have on the plane and let me do all the work. Just focus on that tether and it should be an easy flight, folks," she joked, eyes closed in concentration. The first two times she teleported were challenging, sure, but not impossible as she was alone. However, now that she had an extra three people with her, it took her a few minutes to guide the energy around them.
The familiar feeling of her power absorbing her, entering into her bloodstream, eating away at her until there was nothing left except the darkness. Focusing on her sister and their connection, she felt everything speed up around her, a portal opening up in front of the group, spitting all four of them out onto the Quinjet. Unfortunately, they landed right on the center console in one giant dog pile.
"Shit!" Karley cursed, having landed on the bottom. "I...hate...teleporting!" She huffed out as everyone got off of her, her breathing going back to normal at the weight difference.
"Well," Tony said to the backup that had arrived. He honestly didn't know if Karley could even do it. "I guess it's time we go kick some Red Dawn ass."
Everyone silently agreed, standing there to take a moment to themselves before a quiet voice spoke up.
"Could someone please tell me who the Red Dawn is?" Peter asked sheepishly.
