Introduction

Hello there, my name is Professor Pine and if you are reading this then you are interested in the strange beings that populate our world, known as Pokémon. Sadly, whilst we live side by side with them, allowing our children to train them, even worshiping the Legendaries, very little is truly known about them. Indeed, the closest thing we have to a comprehensive guide to these mysterious beings, the Pokedex, is filled with questionable data. Quite frankly its misinformation ranges from urban myths and legends to outright nonsense.

While others have gone a long way to correct these long held misconceptions. Such examples include Gardevior supposedly creating mini black holes (they cannot), or that Magcargo is hotter than the sun (also not true), it seems I am the only Pokémon Professor who does not treat the Pokedex as gospel. Like many of you readers, I never endeavored on the journey across the world as a Trainer, but upon discovering the sorry state of knowledge about our dear friends the Pokémon, especially when compared to normal animals such as cats or cows, I decided to remedy that.

What you hold in your hands is a grand compendium of the knowledge I have gained about our companions, the information I have gained through my travels to regions not typically covered by the mainstream texts. I tell of pokémon unseen by the actual dex, provide information as truthful as I know it to be, and little stories of how I first encountered these species of pokémon (a disturbing amount of them concerning me getting hurt or even nearly killed). I can not claim that this is everything about the pokémon I describe, but its at the very least a start.

Whether you are a trainer embarking on your journey or an adult with an interest in the mysterious beings we live side by side with, this dex is for you.

Now take a journey into the mysterious and fantastical world of pokémon, with me as your humble host.

Author notes

Time for my rambling observations

There isn't much to say here. But as can be inferred from my intro, my applied headcanons about the pokémon world are as follows.

Legendaries are gods, and they can make incarnations. This explains why they can be captured, as well as shines and regional variants. They have religions/cults of their own, but most people worship them as a pantheon.

Trainers are a special subclass of people.

Normal animals exist, but they are never shown like how legendary worship is never shown. This is because the source materials focus on pokémon adventures.

Professor Pine looks like the tenth doctor but wearing a fedora and having glasses.

Alright, see you next time peoples.
