"What do you think you're doing?!" Seto grasped her arm.
She was midstep within one of the spare lifeboats and her eyes flashed brightly as she tore herself from his grasp. "I'm going after him! There's no way I'm going to just stand here and let this happen!" The tears that had appeared within the corners of her eyes were not of sadness but of anger as he deterred her. "What, so you're saying that just because he is what he is that I should just blindly turn away now while I have the chance?! He has done more for me than all of those other jerks that come knocking on our door looking to shack up with the heiress because it'll be a cool story at the next party!" Her voice softened. "Atem healed my legs, Seto, even though it went against everything that their laws stated and saved me from drowning not once but twice. I can't ignore this and I won't. He has changed my life in ways that I didn't expect but I'm glad he did." Resolve straightened her spine. "I don't care what he is or what I am, I'm going to do what can to save him this time!"
His gaze met her own just for a moment as he stepped into the boat and deftly flipped the lever that caused them to crash into the water below. "I've never seen you so motivated in anything that didn't relate to dancing. The fact alone that someone has your undivided attention and that they are of the opposite gender is a feat of itself as well." She blinked as gentleness entered his voice just a split second before she found herself within his embrace. "I will not allow the one responsible for bringing my sister's happiness and smile back to life to disappear." And then he released her. Had she just imagined that? A small smile raised her lips as his gaze looked any and everywhere. He had always been the shy one when expressing his feelings so this was as close as he was going to get with mushy stuff. Their attention shifted to the water as a swirling darkness threatened to break its surface and a sharp pain pierced her chest as a flash of gold from its murky shadows caught her eye. She spotted the harpoon that was encased within the boat's emergency kit and blinked in surprise when Seto snatched it from her grasp and dove into the water.
