"Sofia."
"Hm?"
Her nose popped up from her book as she looked across the room to her husband.
"I am trying to concentrate."
"...yes?"
Cedric released what sounded closest to a feral growl from the back of his throat.
"You're trying to concentrate and so I'm sitting here quietly reading. What a thoughtful wife am I."
"Your guile is fooling no one."
"Guile?" she blinked twice, letting her book rest across her bare chest.
Cedric put down his own book, letting it make an audible thump as it fell to the table he sat at. He glared at Sofia.
"You know I need to finish this by the morning."
"Yes -"
"It's very important," they said in unison.
"Yes, Sofia. It's very important. You know this."
Sofia pushed herself up on her elbows, arching her back enough that her book slid off her chest, leaving her naked on the fainting couch.
"I really love the work you do, you know. You're changing lives. It's incredible."
Cedric started to stand and immediately sat back down. He released that growl a second time before picking up his book and practically shoving his face into it.
"You have to go," he said, muffled through the pages.
"Oh, of course, my love. Anything to help." Her smile was very present in her voice as she took her time getting to her feet. Instead of walking to the door, she first went over to Cedric. She leaned in to give him a fleeting kiss on the cheek. Cedric didn't move, his self control waning as he attempted his best imitation of an unmovable statue.
When the door was closed, Cedric groaned and slid down in his seat. He was painfully aware that no work was going to be successfully completed until he attended to other...necessities.
"Minx," he grumbled under his breath as he got to his feet and followed Sofia's path out the door.
A/N: Is this happening in my life right now?
Maybe ;)
