(A/N: I was listening to the title of this short story while writing, and Avril Lavigne's Rock N' Roll matches Jirou so well~ I feel bad that her story didn't turn out as long like Tsuyu and Uraraka's were. Jirou's my 2nd favorite MHA girl after Tsuyu. So I hope her story turned out okay. ^_^)
"Darn. I just tightened this string last night, and it still sounds too low..."
"For someone who's been playing since they were five, you think you'd be able to tune a guitar by now."
Your simple response at the jab was to stick your tongue out at the petite and purple haired girl who sat on your bed with a cheeky smile upon her fair skinned face. You had known Jirou Kyoka since the two of you were practically in diapers. Your parents were friends, so it only made sense that you guys had ended up playing together.
While it was true Jirou and you tended to tease and pick at each other, you were quite close. It helped that both of you shared a love for music, and under the guidance of Jirou's parents, you had learned to play instruments at an early age. Though you would admit your skills were nothing compared to your friends. She was a prodigy. Jirou not only had one of the most beautiful singing voices you'd ever heard, but she could play multiple instruments. Not to mention she wrote all of her own songs.
It was no wonder with your shared passion, the two of you ended up starting a band in middle school with some of your other classmates. The band may have never made it big, but you had played at all of the school dances and even some small gigs where you were well known in your town.
However, if there was one thing Jirou loved more than music, it was heroes. So it was no surprise to you when she came to you during your last year, saying she was applying for U.A. Though it meant you'd be attending different school's and Jirou would be leaving the band, you were happy for her. Even if her time at U.A had sounded pretty intense, and it had honestly terrified you that there were multiple times when she could have been badly hurt. The thought of losing her scared you more than the punk rocker girl would ever know...
"I can't believe they are still airing the school festival performance on TV. It's already been two weeks since then," Jirou murmured, a small patch of pink on her cheeks. She had been lazily flipping through channels, only to happen upon the show that had apparently been aired nation wide.
"Can you blame them? You and your classmates really killed it on stage," you praised with a large grin. "I only hope the rest of the guys and I can have our own moment like that one day."
These words caused a slight pained look to form on Jirou's face, and she pulled her knees up to her chest where she muttered out a little, "Yeah..."
Frowning, you placed your guitar to the side and stood up from your carpeted floor to sit down beside Jirou. "Did I say something wrong?"
"No. It wasn't that it's just...Some times I feel like I let you and the others down," Jirou admitted. "We used to make all these big plans when we were kids, remember? How we'd travel the world and perform on all these amazing stages. And we'd make people smile with our music...But I totally ruined that dream of ours..."
You let out a small sigh, placing a slightly sharp smack to the back of Jirou's head.
"Wh-what the heck was that for, you jerk?!" Jirou shouted out, rubbing at her now aching noggin while a small trace of angry tears were in the corner of her eyes.
"Seemed like the only way to knock some sense back into you," you said in a casual tone. "Jirou...I've never once thought you let me down. We're both following our dreams, even if they might lead us to different paths...No matter what, I'll always be cheering for you. Just like I hope that you'll be cheering for me." You beamed and extended out your arm, balling your hand into a fist. "That's what friends do, right? They support each other no matter what!"
Jirou's onyx eyes grew large for a moment, but she gave you a tiny smile and hit your closed hand with her own. "That sounds so cheesy, but you're right..." Running a hand through her hair, she found herself muttering, "Guess you're not worried about the future at all. I just keep thinking when you do make it big, you'll earn so many admirers, you might not have time for me anymore..."
Your face grew warm, and you had to hold back from chuckling when it appeared like Jirou was almost sulking. It was really cute, but you knew not to tell your typically stubborn friend this. So instead, you decided to tease her in another way by saying, "If I didn't know any better, Jirou, I'd say you sounded jealous~"
Blanching at this, Jirou stuttered out, "W-what are you saying?! I have nothing to be jealous about!"
"Maybe you don't, but I know I'd be pretty jealous when you become this famous pro hero, and have all these people begging for your attention..." you admitted with a coy smile, surprising the short haired girl when you leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss upon her forehead; taking her small hand in your own and giving it a gentle squeeze.
Jirou's lips parted, and her face turned the reddest it's been that evening. "Y/N I...Is this like a confession we're doing right now...?"
"Mhm...Well, I don't know about the whole 'us' part. I think what I said sounded a lot more romantic~"
Jirou couldn't help but snort at this, and she lightly shoved your laughing form. "O-oh be quiet! And we're wasting time here! I thought you had a song you wanted me to hear?"
Simply letting out a hum, you went to grab your instrument, strumming a few cords to make sure it was fully in tune this time. 'I suppose I don't have to feel embarrassed now when saying you were what inspired me to write this song in the first place..." Your eyes met, and you felt your mouth grow dry when seeing the clear happiness within Jirou's pretty, but uniquely shaped orbs. And you cleared your throat before exclaiming with a bright smile, "I call it: Rock N' Roll!"
