Author's Note: So... this was a thought in my head, and after watching the first episode more times than I am going to admit, I have concluded that the cat they made sure to show (in the trailer even) is much more than a cute little kitty. :) I almost wish I had Loki pet the darn thing... Maybe next time.

Enjoy!

Not A Cat

Loki fell through the floor completely nude, landing hard on his feet, he hastily rubbed his hands against his chest to feel fabric there that wasn't before. He was startled when he saw a person staring blankly at him while sitting behind a desk piled with files and a neat stack of papers. He placed a pen on top of the papers, but the meow from a cat nearby caught Loki's attention.

The cat looked up at him curiously, pawing at the empty bowl beside it as if asking for him to feed them. Loki quirked an eyebrow at this.

"Please verify that this is everything that you have ever said and sign at the bottom," the man said monotonously.

Loki scoffed, folding his arms in front of him. "That's absurd!"

An atrocious sound started going off from the contraption next to the man. He grabbed the paper it spit out and placed it on top of the pile, replacing the pen.

"This, too."

The cat meowed again, now rubbing against Loki's legs and purring. He looked down at the tabby, seeing it's emerald eyes looking up at him, begging.

"Your cat wants to be fed," Loki said, gently nudging the feline aside.

That electronic thing made its nasty noise again, and the man grabbed the paper and put it on the pile. "It's not a cat. Sign this, too."

"What is it, then?" he couldn't help but ask, eyeing the cat again and stepping away from it.

"Not of your concern. Sign this, too."

Loki threw his hands in the air, exasperated. "You don't expect me to sign every piece of scrap on that pile, do you? And I feel like it is my concern. What if it's dangerous?"

The noise echoed through the space again, and the not-cat now started actively pawing his leg, making him nervous.

"It is. Sign this, too."

"What did it do?"

"That is none of your concern. Sign this, too. We don't have all day."

Loki sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. Whatever the not-cat was, it seemed to really like him as it started weaving between his legs, rubbing against him and meowing. The man finally moved more than his arm to add some strange red substance to the metal bowl. Loki dared not ask what the heck it was as the cat hastily went for it, purring happily. Were those tentacles coming from its mouth? Loki gave a shake of his head.

He almost said something else, but decided against it as he snatched the pen from the pile and glared at the man who resumed his seat to stare at him before signing only the top page in runic.

This place, whatever it is, was absolutely ridiculous.
