Hey, so this is a small shot in the Guitar Girl universe, so if you haven't read that one before I suggest you do. Also this is highly inspired by the new song "First times" by Ed Sheeran so I would also like to recommend you to give it a listen (especially in the last part of this shot). Thank you so much for reading and hope you enjoy this! Until next time, xxxx
Kate looks down at the paper with the new lyrics. Her left hand is still on her stomach, softly rubbing her fingers against it. She's not sure this is a song they can sing either. She's been writing quite a lot of those lately. Well, lately as in the last couple years. Ever since she met him. She smiles at that. Smiles as she remembers that first time they met, how she'd felt his stare as she played the guitar, how Lanie had pushed her to him and how they'd played pool and danced. She still remembers that first kiss, followed by the first night. Gosh, it had been so electric and not like anything she'd ever felt before. She can't believe that's how it still feels with him.
"Hey, what are you doing up?" his sleepy voice sounds through the room and she looks up to see him come through the door.
She smiles as she sees him yawn. "Just had a strike of inspiration, had to get it out," she says as he comes up to her and kisses her temple.
"Oh, do I get to read?" he asks and then smirks as he nestles into the big plush chair to sit behind her. She's so glad they decided to keep the chair when she moved in with him.
"Sure, here," she says and hands him the piece of paper.
He reads it in silence and she observes him carefully, seeing how his small smile goes wider and wider as his eyes come further and further down the paper.
"I love it," he says and she bites her lower lip. "Especially this part," he says and points to the last chorus which makes her blush.
"Yeah, I can't wait to meet the little peanut," she says and she feels his hand join hers on her belly.
"Me neither, perhaps you could sing it," he suggests and when she gives him a look he just smirks. "First time you ever sang to me you said it would be a one time thing, but now you can't deny you like singing to me."
She narrows her eyes at him. He's right. She remembers that too, how he'd just had to beg one time for her to give in and sing for him. And even though she'd said it was only that one time she'd sung for him multiple times ever since, sometimes even multiple times a day. She's also pretty sure he has a recording of her somewhere on his phone, which she's not even tried finding because she knows it would crush him if she deleted it.
"I like it better when you sing to me," she shoots back as she remembers that song from when they were in Tenerife.
"Hmm, that is nice too," he agrees and she snuggles closer to him. "Maybe we should start singing together," he suggests and she chuckles.
"Well, technically we already do."
His whole body rumbles as he tries to strain his laugh. "I mean outside of the shower."
She bites her lower lip. "Well, I find our shower singing very… erotic."
She can feel his nose sneaking into her hair, right behind her ear and she shivers as his lips kiss her right below the ear.
"Yeah, that's another first time I'll never forget," she admits and he nods.
"Me neither."
She cuddles into him more with her head on his chest and he leans his head on hers, their fingers intertwining on her stomach. After a few seconds of complete silence she starts to hum the melody she's thinking for the new song. She looks up at him to see his eyes having closed, which just makes her smile more as she continues to hum.
"Oh, but I remember; The first kiss, the first night, first song that made you cry," she sings gently. "First dance in moonlight at my parent's cabin, I can't wait to see everything that's yet to be. Our first child, and then a million more first times."
His hand rubs her belly a bit more and she watches as his eyes pop open with a sly smile. She shakes her head and hits him gently on his chest.
"Ow," he fakes being hurt and she chuckles.
"You big baby," she says and he smirks. "You were just pretending to be asleep to get me to sing, didn't you?"
He shrugs his shoulders. "How would I know you would sing?"
She just narrows her eyes. "Oh, you knew. Just like you seem to know everything," she accuses and he chuckles.
Just then, they feel a kick to their hands and both of them stop their banter in order to focus on the life taking form inside her belly. It had been a surprise, when she'd started feeling queasy and weird, and it had actually been Jim who'd pointed out that she reminded him of her mom when she'd been pregnant with her. That's when she bought a test with her on her way home, and she'd hoped she would be by herself but he'd been right there, writing. He'd seen it on her face even without her having to say something was on her mind and he'd immediately stood up to ask her what was wrong.
"Well, if you think I know everything I'll tell you I think this is a boy," he says and she rolls her eyes.
"Why, so you won't be outnumbered?" she questions and he shrugs his shoulders.
"Well, yeah, it's very hard to only have been surrounded by women most of my life," he complains in a joking way and she laughs.
"As if you'd get any advantages if it's a boy," she huffs and he sighs.
"True," he says but leans closer to claim her lips with his. The kiss is soft, yet it still sparks with electricity and she kisses him back. "No matter if it's a boy or a girl I'll love our baby because it's our baby. We're having a baby," he says against her lips, wonder still in his voice.
"Yeah," she breathes out, the thought still unbelievable. "I can't wait for our first meet," she whispers.
"Me neither," he agrees. "And our first night back from the hospital."
She smiles as she starts to think about it all. It doesn't scare her that much anymore, not at all when she has him at her side.
"I hope he or she will have your eyes," he whispers as he looks into her hazels and she drowns in his blues.
"Only as long as the next one has yours," she says and sticks her tongue out, observing as his eyes go wide and his smile gets bigger.
"You want more?" he asks and she bites her lip.
"I can't say for sure yet, but maybe," she shrugs and he nods.
"I can understand that."
"Mhmm," she hums and stretches in order to kiss him again. This time it gets deeper, it turns into touching, and it doesn't take that long before the two of them are tangling on the chair. Bodies are connecting and it isn't the first time they have sex in the chair but it's the first time since she got pregnant. And the last time, It's not exactly comfortable but in the heat of the moment it felt like a good idea.
They move to the bed after their highs, cuddling into each other as they catch their breath, and their hands once again find refuge on her big belly. She has her head on his shoulder, looking up at the ceiling, thinking about everything that will soon be happening.
"You know," he says in a low tone. "You really should record your songs, they're absolutely amazing."
She huffs. "Yeah, right."
He pulls away from under her head in order to push up on his elbows, looking down at her. "I mean it. There's so many songs you don't feel right for the band, so why not record them yourself?"
"Eh, because I'm a cop, not a singer," she immediately says and he looks at her with a raised eyebrow.
"You do know you can be both, right? You're already in a band, playing at a bar every chance you-."
"Exactly! Playing, not singing," she cuts him off and he rolls his eyes.
"I'm not saying you should sing in front of people, just… record it and let people hear you," he suggests and she shakes her head.
"Not happening," she says and he nods in defeat.
"Okay then, just think about it," he says and leans down to kiss her lips. He then proceeds to move down to her stomach, his lips giving small kisses to their unborn baby. "Mommy's being stubborn, isn't she?" he whispers and she hits his shoulder. "Ow!"
"And daddy isn't realistic," she says and starts laughing. "Well, you should get used to that."
"Hey!" he exclaims and it only makes her laugh more.
"It is the truth," she laughs before she's letting her fingers sneak into his hair, tangling with the thickness of it. "And it's one of the reasons why I love you."
He looks up at her, his blues filled with the same love she feels radiating through her own body.
"I think that's the first time I hear you admit it," he says and she bites her lower, smiling lip.
"Is that so?" she asks, her fingers moving slowly, massaging his scalp.
"Mhmm," he hums as he looks very pleased with her fingers."I can't wait for a lot more first times either."
She smiles wider, her teeth showing, and his lips peck her belly one more time before he crawls up again in order to lay down beside her. "I remember the first time you shadowed me, how you gave away our relationship just feet away from that first crime scene."
He chuckles. "Well, how could I have known your partners would walk that same path?"
She narrows her eyes at him with a purse of her smiling lips. "They parked in the same way, you knew that."
He chuckles harder and shrugs his shoulders. "Well, I couldn't help that way your lips called for mine, the way your hips spoke to my hands…" She has to bite her lip again in order not to jump him at the memory he's bringing back. "Plus, I think we should be grateful I only kissed you that time."
She nods with a laugh. "Yeah, I guess it could've been a lot worse."
"At least they didn't tell the captain," he says and she nods. "But in all honesty no one would have dared after the look you gave them." They laugh together at that, both knowing exactly what her looks could accomplish, especially in the interrogation room.
"I still remember the first time I used it on you," she says and he chuckles.
"Yeah, I was terrified."
This time, when they rumble with laughter, she feels a kick in her belly and she immediately reaches for his hand to pull it to that exact spot for him to feel the next. Nowadays when there's one kick there's often one more just a few seconds away, and she loves that she can finally actually show people the life inside her. And her husband loves it too.
"Can't wait to meet you," he whispers as the next kick comes and Kate smiles.
"Yeah, this is a first I'm really excited about."
They look at each other and she leans closer to peck his lips. As they cuddle closer, hands still on her belly, they relax and soon enough they're both falling into the land of dreams.
He's wrong. It's not a boy. But the way he looks at their daughter, the way he shines, she knows he's not disappointed at all. And neither is she.
The end
