Someone is shouting very close to her, but Kara can't make out the words they're saying. She thinks this someone might be hurt. Or maybe, maybe she's hurt. She can't quite remember how she ended up here.
Someone shines bright lights into her eyes. She can't tell who. Someone friendly she hopes.
And if they're friendly, she hopes they found Lena too. She couldn't run after her, doesn't know where she is, and when she tries asking, her mouth refuses to open.
Her head feels fuzzy. Really fuzzy.
Someone counts. At least she thinks what she hears are numbers. She's hoisted up onto something firm and long and little while later, her body starts moving horizontally without her accord.
A gurney. She must be on a gurney.
Rao, she hopes it's someone friendly. She doesn't deserve it, but she wants to rest for a moment.
She doesn't want to open her eyes, doesn't want to know if she's wrong and it's just Lex again, surprisingly gentle before he cuts her open again ; but the images burned onto her eyelids are terrible and she doesn't want to see them anymore. Rao. She doesn't want to see them anymore. So she risks an eye open and oh- It's Alex.
It's Alex and she's crying and when she notices Kara looking at her she smiles. It's a smile Kara wishes she'd never have to see. Small, sad, terrible. It makes her want to disappear.
It makes her want to disappear but Alex is talking, and although Kara doesn't hear all the words, can't focus on all of them, there is one that she recognises, one that jumps to her to nestle high in her chest.
"Lena."
Not a question, an affirmation ; they've got Lena too, Lena is safe, Lena is okay.
And if Lena is safe, and Alex is here, then everything is okay, and Kara can let go.
Alex shouts when she closes her eyes and Kara tries to reassure her silently, motioning weakly for her to grab her hand. She doesn't know if Alex does take it, can't really feel it, but she squeezes it anyway, just for the form.
Alex is here now, everything is okay, it's time to let go.
