CHAPTER FOUR
Earth-38
Location: National City
Out on the DEO's balcony Clark and Kara stood shoulder to shoulder looking at the city below.
"I'm sorry about your mom. I couldn't save her." Clark says gripping his hands tightly angered that he couldn't do anything to save her.
"You had no powers on Argo. There was nothing you could do." Kara stated without looking at him.
"I feel like a fool, I thought I could give up the cape and just have everything I ever wanted." Clark sighs. "And now, Argo is gone, this Earth is in danger, Lois and Jonathan are out in the universe, where I can't protect them. And part of me can't help thinking that...that I deserve this...for thinking that I could have so much."
"I get it." Kara says gently. "I've been thinking that a lot, too, lately. How I can never do enough, How my mistakes outweigh all the good I've ever done. But it's not true. It can't be. And we're going to save them. Lois, Jonathan, this whole planet. We've done it a dozen times and we're going to do it again." Kara says, determined as Clark looks with a proud gaze.
"How are you so... hopeful right now? You've lost just as much as I have today. Argo, your mom..." Clark points.
"Before our parents sent us to Earth... nobody here knew about Krypton." Kara began. "Now, there are stories, celebrations, museum exhibits. Just like you shared our home with your family, we shared our home with this whole world."
"Krypton's not just a place, it's a spirit. It's hope. It's sacrifice. It's what our parents did for us. What you did for Jonathan. We have made our parents proud by fighting for what's right. So, we have to keep fighting. And as long as that spirit is alive, Krypton will never die." Kara says wholeheartedly.
"Now I need to get someone important if we're going to save everyone." She declares flying into the sky leaving Clark alone with his thoughts.
Location: DEO Storage Room
Oliver stands in front of a case and he smiles as Mia enters the room.
"You wanted to see me?" Mia asks softly, really hoping that her father isn't going to make a speech about when he dies, and make her promise to do something for him because she was just brought into another earth, met literally aliens, and her father isn't going to die not if she has something to do about it.
"I did." Oliver says with a smile walking over the case picking it up and placing it out to a nearby table. "I have something for you." Oliver jesters to the case.
"What is it?" Mia asks curiously looking at the case
"Only one way to find out."
Hesitatingly Mia opens the case to reveal a new Green Arrow like her father's but more feminine with mask and all. "Okay, please tell me you're planning on wearing this."
"I don't think that that would fit me." Oliver jokes. "There should always be at least one Green Arrow.'
"Dad, I can't." Mia states stepping away from the suit.
"You know, Mia, the Monitor has taken a lot from me. But I will always be grateful for the time he has given me with you. If you're not gonna wear this, no one should. You earned it." Oliver declared confidently.
"Just try it on, okay? I gotta find Barry."
Oliver walks out of the DEO storage room beginning his search for the speedster only for Barry to appear right in front of him. "The fastest man alive shows up late to the Crisis we've been expecting for years. Ugh... It's not the... it's not the best look, Barry." he jokes.
"Lyla or...uh Harbinger had us doing some recon of the quantum towers." Barry defends with a smile before his face suddenly falls serious.
"But listen, do you remember the newspaper article I showed you on the time vault? Red skies and a crisis?" Oliver nods remembering because that was the time they fought aliens.
"Okay, well, the Monitor confirmed the papers had lied and... in this Crisis, I'm supposed to die."
"No." Oliver shouts, suddenly shocking Barry.
"We need to talk. Now!" Oliver shouts to the sky while Barry watches in confusion.
"Who're you talking to?"
"Hey, right now!"
Location: Remains of Maltus
"We are past the time for discussion, Oliver." The Monitor urges walking away from a hologram of the earth.
"You and I had an agreement. I die." Oliver growls. "Barry and Kara live!"
"Yes... to keep the cosmic balance." The Monitor nods remembering their deal.
"So, why are you telling Barry that he's gonna die?"
"I spared your friends' lives so they could save their world last year, But this... is a very different threat." The Monitor declares with a grave tone.
"You need to stop playing games with me." Oliver says frustratedly. "You tell me why the Anti-Monitor is doing this. And then tell me how I'm going to prevent it."
"Not knowing what you're fighting means you will prepare for every possibility. Because this threat brings with it the annihilation of all life in all realities. Do you now comprehend the scope... of the danger we all now face?'
Location: L-Corp
Kara lands softly watching through the window as her former partner Lena tries to figure out what causing the earthquakes and the red sky.
Kara takes a deep breath before entering and as soon as Lena notices her, she frowns.
"Are you here to arrest me?" Lena asks shocked "During the apocalypse?! Because that's low even for yo-"
"Argo's gone!" Kara blurts with tears stopping Lena in her tracks.
"A...an anti-energy wave is coming, destroying everything in its path and it has already destroyed Argo. so we need your help, I know that I hurt you but without you everyone on Earth is going to die!." Kara says breathlessly her guard falling as tears fall from her eyes
"And I can't lose anyone else."
Lena takes a deep breath before slowly wrapping her arms around Kara who responds quickly wrapping her arms around Lena tightly before she changes her mind sobbing into Lena's shoulder.
"Oh Kara, I'm so sorry." Lena whispers gently with unshed tears in her eyes pulling Kara impossibly closer.
"No one should lose their planet ever, Let alone twice, So if you need my help, then I promise I'll do whatever I can." Lena says wholeheartedly.
Kara nods, wiping her tears separating from Lena who unexpectedly holds her close by holding her hands. "J'onn and Alex need you to make a transmitter portal to a different universe that's also big enough for every single person on Earth to pass through safely."
Lena is shocked for a bit because the multiverse exists and that literally the fate of the people are now in her hands, So she focuses her brain before nodding. "Let's go."
Kara quickly picks up Lena in a bridal carry pausing for a second because she never thought they would be in the position again, Lena clears her throat to get her attention.
"Right!"
