Feedbacks would be appreciated!

This is an AU inspired from Cyberpunk2077. Damn that game struggles, but the universe is so good.

This is aiming toward a slow burn Supercorp (how is this not cannon yet?)

Setting: Mankind never knew about aliens, few that did are now dead or reduced to silence. Governments are now puppets of big corporations, technology is now in our bodies, increasing lifetime of regular people, profit is the key. National City has grown to a Megacity that spread over several miles. Kara never became Supergirl, she decided not to interfere in human evolution.

Summary: 2077, National City.

A mysterious death happened in the one of the most sensitive lab of the powerful Luthor Corp.

Lena Luthor, CEO of the company requires the police the utmost discretion about the situation. Detective Kara Danvers is appointed to lead the investigation in uncanny conditions.

Anyway, here we go.

The sound of her phone was blazing in her ears, begging her to answer the incoming call. But its owner grunted and it took several seconds before she cracked an eye open. She sat up in her bed, her brain still foggy enough to make her reach and miss the device. The ringing stopped.

"Good morning Kara, you have received one call from Captain J'onzz. Do you want to call him back?"

Asked the feminine voice of her apartment's AI. She passed her hand on her face, as if it would help her to fully wake up.

"Prepare some coffee." She replied instead when it didn't work. It was not uncommon for her superior to call her in the early hours of the day. Still, it was pretty damn annoying, especially when she worked around the clock the night before. He will call back if he needs me, she thought.

As she made her way through the tiny apartment, the blind opened itself as she moved past it to reveal the glooming reality of what had become National City. It was not how it used to be. The vibrant and happy city had turned into a huge hollow megalopolis, spreading as far as the eye can see. She witnessed earth's downfall as humans relied more and more on a technology they barely could comprehend, with the compliments of Luthor Corp, of course.

The company made a scientific breakthrough in the beginning of the 21st century by succeeding to create prothesis linked by synthetic neurotransmitters to patient's brain. It changed the world forever. It begun like all good ideas, screaming with good intentions and, in fact, it was for a while. It had been produced at an alarming industrial rate. There were so many prothesis of all kind even the poorer could access this medical advancement for a ridiculous price. Missing limbs were no longer a handicap and it soon evolved towards replacing dying organs, muscles and then it became more of a boost and recreational for daily life. Implants clinics, both certified and illegal, flourished. People longevity increased and so did their number. Now it reached a point where people not augmented are considered living unicorns.

Damn Kryptonian genes… While humanity was heading towards immortality, Kara could use a little break. The yellow sun grants her a lifespan slightly above human's, but all things considered the gap was not that wide anymore. As for implants, no need for them when she has powers. That was the good side of it, as she avoids using them too much, if she gets caught shooting lasers with her eyes she could vaguely justify it by mentioning some black market implant.

She grabbed her coffee, probably the only comfort she would find during the day and observed the city's neon lights. The sun was timidly peaking above the horizon, highlighting the suspended mist of pollution above the ground.

"Call back Captain J'onzz." She whispered, both hands around the steamy cup. Immediately the AI dialled the number until the low and fatherly voice of her superior vibrates into the room's speakers.

"About some time, Danvers."

She rolled her eyes and barely kept a groan to herself. Literally five minutes had passed since his first call. Bubbly, happy Kara Danvers was rarely seen these days. Criminality rate was going through the roof, government didn't care, everything was left to police forces that were barely keeping the city from exploding. Having hung up her suit for a while now, she endorsed the uniform and was now one of the best detectives NCPD could summon.

"I needed my three hours beauty sleep sir." She replied coldly.

"Sorry Danvers… I need you at the precinct. Right now." He said after a second.

"What is it?"

"I can't tell you over phone, how fast can you be there?"

She almost snorted at the irony.

The precinct was quiet, it was way too early for the next shift to be here, and teams were still roaming the city. In the cold light of white neon, Kara made her way through the empty desks to the far end of the room.

Cpt. J'onn J'onzz said the sign on the wooden office door.

She liked the man. Kara found her sense of justice mirrored by his tall frame and absolute kindness. He was too good for this world; Just like her, his alien's genes allowed him to make it through most of this century. They had each other backs since they worked together to dismantle a network of narcotics and saved her life on one particular bad day, accidentally revealing his Martian origins to her.

Kara pushed the door open, he looked up instantly but did not smile. She frowned; it was very unlike him to welcome her like this.

"Danvers. Finally. Sit down." He said as he turned his computer's screen in her direction.

"Sir?" She complied, preferring to indulge her captain when she realized how nervous he was… or was he scared?

"I need you to head to Luthor Corp. As you might know Lex Luthor vanished months ago."

"Yes, federals are still investigating his disappearance." She tagged on slowly, unsure of what she was getting into.

"Right." He paused scratching a beard he didn't have. "The company called us a couple of hours ago, employees found a body in one of their labs."

Ok now he had all of her attention.

"Who is the victim?"

"Adam Jake, 28, one of their lab technicians." He said extending an actual paper folder to her.

" Sir?" She questioned looking pointedly at the file. She was at loss of words. Paper was something of an ancient time, literally no one was using this anymore.

"No CCTV footage of course." He completed, ignoring her half-asked question.

"Of course… but what is this?" she raised her question again waving the folder slightly.

"Lena Luthor had been very specific about having absolutely no numeric support."

"Luthor… The sister, right?" He nods in response.

"She thinks the death is pretty recent and she wants it to be investigated with the utter most discretion." He explained.

Her eyes roamed the file quickly but it comes up the few scraps of information here were not very useful.

"So, I'm going solo." She concluded standing up.

"You're going solo." He confirmed reclaiming the file.

"And you think this is linked to Lex Luthor's case."

"What I am saying is: every details count. Corpos crimes are legion, but murder inside such secured facility is a whole different story. Plus we're talking about the Luthors. Keep your eyes open Danvers."
