"Mmmrgh?"
The first thing I notice when I'm conscious is the uncomfortable warmth that's on my bare back. I try to roll to my right side, but my arm is pinned down, so only the other half of my back is getting that god sent cool side of the bed.
Wiping the sleep out of my eyes, I peer over to my left arm, which is pinned under a mess of shining auburn waves. Oh it's Artemis.
Turning over, I slither my arm across her stomach and nudge my chin onto her shoulder. Taking a deep inhale through my nose, I let my eyes close as I intake the smell of pine and grass that's radiating from her hair.
She lets a breath of air out and curls into me.
The tent lets the sunlight in, but it isn't too warm and musty in the tent, rather it's cool inside and the flaps let a mild breeze that compliments the warmth of the duvet blanket, as the cool air rushes over my face.
Letting my eyes open part way, I see that the room is basking in a sort of glow thanks to the sun. Shout out to Apollo. I can see the light reflecting off the specks of dust that seems content on meandering through the air.
I feel Artemis move in my arms.
I loosen my grip on her midsection and move my chin to the top of her head. She tries to stretch out, but takes the blanket with her as her legs raise into the air. Cold air rushes over my bare legs and up my boxers.
Artemis lets her legs drop and the warmth that the duvet brings returns.
Huffing, Artemis turns so that she's facing up at me.
Her eyes are still droopy and her hair is crossed all over her face. Gorgeous.
I kiss both her eyelids, then peck her lips. She gives me a little goofy grin and gives me one of her nervous and gentle kisses.
Maiden for a couple millennia, and she is absolutely adorable at showing physical affection. Love her to bits.
She reaches up and grabs a tuft of my hair and starts to braid it. She always does this whenever it's just us, or we have some down time.
"Well good morning to you honey," I say, propping my head up with a pillow. It's cool underneath so I sneak my arm under it. Artemis punches my chest when I call her that.
She's so lovely. Her soft, angular jaw and the flowing, almost fiery blond hair is aglow, making her face glow with the sun. Her long, delicate neck, ample bosom, taught and defined naval, and hips - oh my gods those hips!
Yeah if you can't tell already, I'm not very good at describing my girlfriend. Though in about a word to describe her, she's perfect.
She gives my cheek a light tap, since I've been staring at her waist, which led to me staring at her thighs.
I smile apologetically and kiss her cheek. She melts and grins to herself as she continues a small braid down the side of my head.
I look down and just admire her soft silver eyes that seem to be so sharp and focused all the time. Both me and her are topless, which makes the bed feel extra nice. I'm wearing a pair of grey comfort shorts that are just above my knees, and Artemis is wearing a pair of my boxer briefs.
"So what do you feel like doing today?" I ask. She finishes her braid, and starts running, twirling my hair between her fingers.
"Mmmm, there's always work to be done on your bowmanship," Artemis says."But I suppose you may take a day off, you've shown much progress recently."
"In exchange, I - ah - would like to go on a date," Artemis says, mumbling the last part, before burying her head in my neck quickly. I can see her ears starting to blush a lil' gold. Awww.
As of now it's just the two of us alone, camping in the forest. The rest of the Hunt is over at Camp Half-Blood, and the two of us are just spending some time alone.
Actually, now that I think about it, you guys don't know why me and Art are dating. Let's think back to about 2 years ago.
Around the time where we had won over Gaia, and rewards had been given out, compensation being paid, there was this atmosphere of efficiency, or something like that. Like everyone wanted to be doing something productive y'know?
Some people were repairing cabins, working on expanding existing one, traveling to New Rome, or traveling to Camp Half-Blood. Some were thinking about settling down, some were thinking about education, some were trying to move into the workforce up on Olympus.
Overall just a lot of people scurrying about, trying to get their future and lives back on track. As for me? Well, I was more than certain my life would be centered around the Gods and the mythical world.
Jason and Piper went back to school, and in their free time was spent searching for Leo. Hazel and Frank went back to New Rome to help manage everything over yonder. Nico's doing...stuff downstairs, he didn't really go into much detail.
Me and Annabeth? Eh, she went up to Olympus's University for architecture and did all that good jazz. Yeah we broke up BUT it's not like we were too butt hurt about it. It happens to people, and she really wanted to pursue her dreams of building and what have you, so who am I to hold her back?
And besides, it's not like we still don't talk like everyday. Me and Annabeth? 2 peas in a pod.
Brothers in arms...
Or sisters, or...whatever.
We're our closest and best friends, and I think that's good enough for both of us.
As for me? I was just resting up in Olympus in my studio apartment.
Yeah, I know. "Percy, bro, you live on Olympus, and your home is a studio apartment? That's so LAME"
I know, I know, but I don't want a huge palace. Like I have no need for 3 acres of indoor land, ever.
Anyway, I think I had just woken up at midday, and as soon my feet touched the hardwood floor and I felt my stomach, I realised I needed to start doing something.
I had lost my abs.
All of them.
Gone.
And I had stubble. That had to go. ASAP.
Anyway, I spent about a few months or so getting back into proper shape, training my swordplay, cardio, some weights, and took an interest in other smaller bladed weapons.
I bought a collapsible hatchet that rested on the small of my back, as well as a small hunting knife that rested on my left forearm with a leather strap.
With my stomach somewhat presentable again, I traveled through the white houses and blue roofs of the city to Olympus's "Misthophoros" to see if they had any work or short missions for me to do.
Now, little cliff notes for those unaware the Misthophoros, or ancient mercenaries, originally applied to someone who worked in return for payment by salary. That included hired labour and the word was very soon applied to hired professional soldiers and sailors.
Nowadays they were just basically a guild that put out little bounties with rewards for tasks, like harvesting, escorting cargo, or hunting certain monsters for resources.
It might sound kinda odd for me to do mercenary work, but, ah, my wallet was feelin kinda light, and it's not like the 2 time Hero of Olympus can't handle an adventure or 2.
Sadly, it looked like the Hero of Olympus wasn't allowed an adventure or 2.
Yeah, when I turned up at the main hall, the head administrator showed up and kindly turned me around.
And by kindly, I mean she literally picked me up and turned me around, then patted my head like a small child saying that the jobs provided were a little (a lot) below my skill level and could probably be used elsewhere.
Which is great, don't get me wrong, because having people know you're really really strong is cool and all, but a mans gotta eat!
...Well not really, because I can go pretty much anywhere on Olympus and get food because of the whole saving the world thing- but that's beside the point okay?
Point being, I wanted to go out and stretch my legs for a bit, and maybe go enjoy some traveling while I was at it. And who else is better than to request the most outrageous and random, middle of nowhere items?
The Olympian Council, that's right!
So then I headed over to the Pantheon meeting hall.
I pushed the door open and peered inside. There were a few voices that sounded female, so I silently made my way from the door. It had seemed that my deduction was correct, as a group of lithe figures draped in silver were formed in a semi circle around one specific throne.
Artemis's throne. It was her Hunt.
And being the brilliant male that I am, I decided that I should steer clear of them, and went back outside for them to leave, hopefully avoid being lit up by silver tipped arrows, and discuss any possible assignments that they could have for a demigod job hunting.
So there I was, sitting on the pristine steps on the outside of the Pantheon, twiddling my thumbs and tapping my feet, when the Hunt decided to make their presence known.
They threw the doors open andI scuttled out of their way. Making my way up the stairs I gave them a wide berth, until I heard my name being called out from the crowd.
I turned around and saw it was a girl that looked about my age, with this gorgeous auburn hair, wonderfully athletic and powerful legs, these hips that seemed to take my full focus and those gorgeous silvery gold eyes.
Oh yeah, Thalia was there next to her too.
If you couldn't tell it was Artemis. And boy oh boy was I ogling.
Anyway, she was asking what I was doing here. Composing myself I said that I was going to ask if there was any sort of task or work I could do to help with cleaning up any stray monsters.
Thalia's punk lookin face shot into my view and suggested that I come with them, and that we spend some quality cousin to cousin time, because y'know, we've been a bit occupied with the war.
I was only half listening as I was too busy trying to sneak some glances over at Artemis. Looking back that was pretty stupid of me, even if Artemis and I were somewhat acquainted, but I just couldn't keep my eyes off her for long.
And that's pretty much how it happened. Or atleast where it started.
