Ballad of the Fan Fiction Writer

My fingers are aching from typing so much.
My poor keyboard's quaking at the raucous touch.
I don't think I'm breaking any major laws;
The people I'm taking are for a good cause.

The disclaimer's boring, the author's note long,
But the plot is soaring, the characters strong.
It's them I'm adoring, though they're not my own,
And for them outpouring ideas I have grown.

I suck up attention, I live on reviews;
With fierce intention, I invoke my muse.
I try not to mention my procrastination,
Or I'll pay the pension in my compensation.

My heart is so tired, my head all a cloud.
Slowly I've aspired to shine through the crowd.
I've had stories inspired, left readers enchanted,
Made reviewers wired, thought up ideas ranted...

But woe on my name, and woe on my life:
I suffer a flame, then brandish a knife!
Whoever came simply to put me down?
I'll maim them with many a not-so-nice noun!

Why do I partake this; why don't I just quit?
My health won't mistake this...I need to stop it!
But I can't forsake this: the love of the stories,
May each breath intake this, cherishing all glories.

And so I'll keep writing, my haunting to end;
My heart with love lighting, my ideas to bend.
This one truth contriting states my firm addiction...

It's all worth the fighting for my dear fan fiction.

I feel like my personal duty in the world of fan fiction is to take common, cliched, overused ideas and make them into memorable stories. I can only hope that I'm filling the job description.
