Chapter 6
The sun was slowly rising, waking up Fiona. She felt something soft under her body and realized that she was laying on a bed. As she remembered last night's event, her tears came back. And she silently cried. But soon enough, a hand played with her hair, smoothing her. she dared to look and was surprised to see that it was Carol. At first Fiona tried to get away from her, but then, she just sat there, next to the blonde. There was something in Carol's eyes, the same ocean of feelings that she saw in Zed's eyes when he dropped her here in the first place. Fiona saw sadness, shame and loneliness. "It hurts everyday." Carol said, "I used to think that I was a hero with a darkside. But now, I lost so much, I was thrown into the Darkness so deep, that I can't even think of myself as a victim of Fate anymore." Choked Carol. The blonde let a single tear, a heavy one, dropped from her eye. "I have accepted that I am a villain." she stated. "I missed them so much." cried Fiona. "Me too. But believe me when I say that it was better that way." Carol said softly. Fiona looked at her again, not sure of what to think. "Why am I here ?" she asked. "Zed saw something in you. Ora isn't the only way to taste evolution and, through it, true power." explained Carol.
Peru.
Bobby was wearing a stealth combat suit and his hair was tied up in a little ponytail. He was shooting arrows after arrows while running. Ronnie-Anne, her hair untied, was running, gun in one hand, a golden sword that looks alien, in the other. The Sandiagos were trying to lose a pack of Amazones wannabe. "There's too many of them !" shouted Ronnie, taking cover behind what remains of a wall. She fired two times, killing only one Amazon, putting a bullet in her chest, the other one injuring another Amazon's leg. She was executed with an arrow in the eye by Bobby. "Dad should be here soon." and as on cue, Arthuro arrived, with a military chopper. A soldier, clad in a guerilla like uniform, began firing at the Amazon with a rifle. A rope was sent to Ronnie and Bobby. "So, you got the sword ?" asked Mr Santiago, Ronnie and Bobby looked at each other, "He doesn't look worried about us...You might be right brother." Said Ronnie in korean. "He's definitely using us. But let's play it cool for now." responded Bobby. Arthuro took a moment to look at his children, eying them. Sensing the 'danger' Bobby quickly showed the alien sword to his dad. "Ha… Good job you two. I have good news myself, we're going back to Great Lake city." he said. Ronnie looked at Bobby, her brother being in deep thoughts as he was gazing at the night sky. "That can't be good…" Ronnie thought, gazing at a photo of Lincoln.
"Ace, is everything alright ?" asked Lynn Sr, looking in the rear view mirror. They were driving through a beat up dirt road, a path that Zed had mentioned to Rita in his letter. Lincoln was gazing outside, he failed miserably, Fiona was in the claws of Zed, three of his sisters were willingly following him, two of them as his daughters and the other one had chosen him as her Master. He was about to discover why some people were walking toward the mall, but his mom had called him, saying that he needed to come back. He tried to argue, but he noted the tiredness and desperation in Rita's voice. He sighed, before responding a little yes, to his dad. Lana and Lola hugged him, not letting go.
After around an hour of driving, Vanzilla stopped in front of a lovely big chalet. It was located between a cozy garden and a river. The beautiful place was protected and hidden by a forest, at the end of the only road that was more like a dirt road. Sans Lori, Leni and Lucy, only Lisa didn't come with them, as she was with their Pop-pop in a confidential place. "At least he didn't lie about the beauty of the chalet." Deadpanned Lynn, still a little mad about the origin of this plan. Rita let out a breath, thinking of Zed .
Rebecca was sitting on her bed, a bottle of wine empty by her side. She tried one last time to call Sid, but her daughter didn't respond. And so tears came back, blaming herself for not being there last night. She had spent her entire morning searching for her and when she heard about what was going on in Royal Woods…Fear invaded her heart. The blonde mother decided to get up, as it was almost noon. At the moment that she entered the living room, her heart dropped, she saw Sidney clad in a spider themed suit, holding Adelaid so tightly while crying softly. "Sidney ?!" Spider-Girl looked at her mom, and ran to her, dropping her sister carefully first. Rebecca hugged her daughter, and when they separated, she was about to scold her but when she saw Sidney's eyes...Sid was broken, her mind shattered . "What happened to you?" asked her mom softly. Sidney took some time before giving any response. "Mom, I-I can't be a hero...And I think that I never will."Sid whispered. "What do you mean ? Of course you can, you're already one." Becca said, trying to be supportive and give her daughter some courage back, but she failed, as Sid just looked away. "Dad is dead by my fault." Sniffled Sid, the poor girl was plagued with memories of that night. "Let's talk sweetie." Becca said, taking a seat on her couch. Sid didn't wait to join her. Adelaid gave her a cup of hot chocolate, with caramel cookie, which Sid didn't wait to taste. Looking at her mother, she began to tell her all that happened. And God knows she had a lot to tell her mom.
"Clyde, I don't know what to say…." whispered Emma. Indeed, Lincoln had sent messages to Clyde and Sid about the Chalet, Clyde had talked about it with his fathers and Emma, the girl taking the chance to explain that her parents were safe as they were in Detroit. And Clyde had now offered to drop her off with her parents. "Clyde, I know that it's...complicated but, I can't be near them right now, you're the one I need. Surely they have heard about what happened here, and so, they will ask a lot of questions, too many questions and I don't want nor need that." she explained softly, Clyde smiled at her as he said, "I'll take good care of you then." And the two shared a hug. "Clyde, Emma, we're ready to leave." said Howard, Clyde nodded, "We're too." Howard then leaves them, "Okay, let's go then."
"Higher Persephone, you need to aim higher, the reflex of any human is to raise their arms, so you need to predict that by aiming directly at their head." Explained Zed, he was training Persephone for 3 days now. At first, she wasn't really into it, but since yesterday she was throwing herself in a race for improvement. And only Raven knew why. Anyway, Persephone, only wearing sport bra and a back legging as she was barefoot with her hair tied up in a ponytail, took a breath before taking position, it was actually really simple, light on her two feet, almost tiptoeing, her right foot forward and her left foot ready to give a push. Her right legs were slightly bending forward while her left thigh was contracted, waiting for the moment. Her back was bowed just a little, right hand holding her sword while the other one was on the sheath. Zed prepared another shadow in front of her, he grabbed a rose and let it fall freely. At the very instant that the flower touched the grass, Persephone had unsheathed, jumped, almost sliding, forward and attacked. And this time she succeeded. Leni congratulated her by clapping and Lucy smiled at her, but none of that was important to Persphone. She looked at her new Master, and he gave her a thumbs up smiling, and she returned his smile. Zed clapped two times, the three girls gathering around him. "We are proud of you all, tonight enjoy yourself and rest well. Tomorrow we will get back to work." And he walked away, sensing persephone's eyes on him. The now twelve year old girl turned around and walked towards the pool of the hotel that they were resting in. As soon as she sank her body, only her head was above water, Leni took place next to her. "Well done girl." Smiled Starfire, Persephone blushed while returning her smile.
A man in his forties was running through a dark corridor, holding tight a suitcase filled with files and pictures. As he got close to a double-red sliding door, a guard stopped him. "Oh, Sheldon, you again. What's the matter now?" Asked the guard. "Josh, I wish this would be one of my paranoid cases, but it's not. I got intel regarding the attack at Royal Woods, code Cosmic Queen." he said in hurry. The guard was surprised to hear the code, that means someone was part of the Circle of Trust, founded by Albert. "Okay, make it quick." and the guard opened the door for Sheldon, the guy saying thank you while entering. Albert was looking through a window, a glass of scotch in a hand. He sighed, he heard about the return of Zed, since his daughter had called to talk about it. "Mr Clark." Albert turned to face Sheldon. "Be quick.", Sheldon put his files on Albert's desk, "First there's an update on the… situation at Royal Woods. The local middle school was the scene for the deadliest students' fight. We registered only around 17 survivors, not counting the 9 in coma. Second, there was an intrusion in the Earth Space Area. At least they had the decency to introduce themselves, it's the Morning Star." At the mention of the spaceship, Albert let go of his glass, letting it shattered on the ground. "Everything's alright sir?" Albert didn't respond, instead he searched for his phone, and called Rita.
Rita was sitting by the river, letting her feet rest in the water. Lola was sitting next to her, while Lana was swimming. Luna and Lynn were still training, Luan was sleeping, still locked up in the cell Lisa built. As for Lily the little one was with her father, as Lynn Sr was cooking dinner, waiting for the McBrides to arrive. Lincoln was walking along the road made of dirt that led to their new 'house'. A lot was in his mind, he had possibly the fate of the world in his shoulders and he was only thirteen for God sake! It was only now that he registered what battle he choosed to fight, there was no point in denying it any longer. He was at war against his own sisters. Sisters that were following Zed.
Zed.
Lincoln stopped dead on his tracks. At the very instant that this name has been whispered by the wind, his life has been thrown upside down. And he's not even talking about his first meeting with the Galaxy Slayer. "I don't even want to know how he earned that name anymore." said the white haired young hero. "Hero...I have no right to call myself that. There's no way I can win that, no way I can fulfill this path." He softly cried, sitting in the grass, gazing at the late afternoon sky. A hand found its way on his shoulder. "Actually, you're in the right direction buddy." said Clyde, sitting next to his best friend. "Lincoln, you're not a hero yet. This… dark hour, is the gate that you always were looking for. Now, it's up to you. Either you stand up, and face the storm, or just bury yourself in self pity and Link, this will only result in loneliness as everyone will surely move out of your life. Now if you excuse me, I have to go help Emma with some boxes." Clyde stood up, "And Lincoln, I trust you. Whatever happens, I'll follow you. Man with the plan." And with this said, Clyde walked back to the house. Lincoln thought about that, before closing his eyes. "That's the thing Clyde, I have no plan." And a tear dropped slowly, heavy with fear and doubt.
Persephone was training with Zed. She twirled her katana with some swift movement of her wrist, looking at Zed. She was nervous, while Zed was standing still, eyes closed. Persephone breathed, and jumped towards Zed, she raised up her sword, just to give a kick at the last moment. But Zed dodged her attack by spinning on himself as she came back, she didn't have the time to do anything as Zed grabbed her by her throat. Instead of struggling, Persephone looked at Zed dead in the eye. She kicked him in the arm at the same moment that her fist connected with his throat, or at least tried as Zed had stopped the attack. "You're ready." he simply said, realising her. As Persephone fell on her knees, massaging her sore throat, she muffled a thank you. Zed looked at her, before turning his gaze to Leni, standing above them, on the rooftop. She was looking at them.
Emma walked around, thinking about what could go wrong. She was surprised by the fact that her breakdown didn't last more than one night. Sitting on a cute white bench, she looked around, she caught Clyde working on a new armor while Lana was watching him, learning the basis from him. She caught Lynn running, her little sister Lola sitting on her shoulders. Then she saw Lincoln training Luna, and it wasn't very pleasant for her, although the white haired boy offered to give her at least some basis on how to defend herself. She wasn't a fool, she was well aware that at the moment she would know how to fight, Zed or one of his minions would land an interest on her. And finally, she was very shocked to the core to see Luan being taken for a walk on a leash like a dog. Even her hands were tied. Rita had explained to her that the once comedian had been transformed into a cold bloodthirsty monster. But Emma could see in the eyes of the mother that Rita's heart was shattered. Emma's eyes crossed the gaze of Luan, the latest jumping in front of the young latina, her tongue out, making animalistic noises. As Emma screamed, Luan laughed. Before being slapped away by Rita herself. Walking away, Luan mouthed "I'll taste you later tanned candy." Before laughing like crazy, earning herself a kick from Lynn.
"You couldn't help yourself Luan hun?" Asked Lynn Sr. "Like I already said, you guys made it too easy." Teased the brown-haired assassin. "You're disgusting…" whispered Lynn, walking away. As loneliness surrounded herself, Luan tilted her head, knowing that he was here. "Hehe, you will have the chance to taste it sooner than you thought Luan." said Shaco, he was the darkness itself, literally His head was huge, suspended in a little universe like fog. Two hands appeared from thin air, grabbing her shoulder. "I hope that Zed doesn't shatter your mind." he said, laughing as he disappeared. Luan had a sinister smile. "He can't shatter what's already broken."
Sid was patrolling, swinging in the sky, between the building, higher than them, or just low enough to feel the rush of being next to the ground, yet not touching it. Actually, she was having fun, dancing in the sky, forgetting all that had happened. Feeling free, she didn't pay attention to her spider-sense, so she was taken by surprise when Zed grabbed her by her waist mid air.
