You Spoke Too Soon!

Ruby smiled contently at her new bed. It consisted of a large box made of wood and a flat lid on top. Dark on the outside and bloody red from the inside. The colors went so well with her clothes. Compared to her old bed, it didn't look all that spacious but it was good nonetheless.

"Hm." She hummed, taking in every little details she had gone through during the making. Her chin lowered and supported by a hand. Something was still missing, the setup looked great but the simple appearance didn't really let out anything that screamed this bed belonged to her.

"Got it!"

Finger snapped. She smashed a couple of rose stickers on each side of the bed. The crest of her family nicely placed on top the lid with two crosses added next to it. Done! Ruby wiped her nose, grinning from ear to ear. In her joy, two sharp fangs revealed as satisfaction filled her expression.

"Now this is my bed." Anybody who saw this would certainly say it looks Ruby-ish.

One final touch, she pushed the lid, leaving a half opened gap. Oh! The fresh smell of wood hit her nostril, big bonus! She climbed in, closed the lid and lied on the mattress that took her hours to fit it in.

Giggle!

Ruby sighed, fully relaxed. The darkness inside was warm and peaceful, unlike the daylight or the morning sun. Plus, it had enough room for her to stretch the arms and roll around. Two people could perfectly sleep in here without worrying about being cramped.

But wait...

The lid pushed to the side, she sat up, staring at the wall with a new thought struck her mind. The aroma was quite strong in there, having this scent all the time while sleeping didn't exactly make it comfortable for her sensitive nose.

Jumping onto her old bed, she threw the pillow and blanket inside the box. She lied back down again, the back of her head felt the tender softness of the cushion and the blanket pulled over her chest. Urgh, hot! Ruby kicked the blanket and wrapped herself in her cloak. Yeah, better. She inhaled, taking a good whiff of the air. Hm, the fresh scent was quite overwhelming. Still not right. Should she pour milk into here? Nah, bad idea. Maybe grinding strawberry cookies into powder, mixed with water and spray it like a perfume? Ruby tapped her chin, pondering over that thought. Nope! Too much work. Also, Mom said not to play with food.

Gasp!

She got it! It was so simple!

Ruby lifted up the window in her room, the dead of night and the cold breeze graced her pale skin. Both feet stepped on the stool, she hopped out and landed nicely on the grass. She noticed lights in the living room, Mom was probably enjoying her favorite midnight drama shows. Hush! Stealth mode switched on. Carefully, she tiptoed toward the garden in the backyard. Ruby wouldn't want Summer to know the thing she was about to do. She approached a group of roses among the flowers that her Mom had spent months to grow for the next harvest season.

How mesmerizing. Even in the dark, they glowed. The whole garden was nurtured and blossomed thanks to her Mom's dedication. It was one of her specialties to make their beauty never withered, call it a mother's secret. No wonder these sold so well on the market. People loved her flowers. Sniff! They smelled great too! Exactly what she needed.

Pop!

Yep! She plucked one with a nefarious smile. Sorry Mom, just this once! Ruby was a good girl so she quickly replaced the one she took with a paper flower. Anyway, back to her room.

Rose petals scattered around the mattress. Snacks, blood packs and comic books stored at each corner of the large box.

"Now this is what I'm talking about!"

Hands on her hip, Ruby was proud. She was finally done. Couldn't suppress her excitement, she climbed in to try out the new experience.

"Uh, kinda cramped." Ruby whined.

The edge of X-Ray and Vav hit her ankle and the food piled up under the pillow. Too much space claimed, she tossed some of it out. One pack filled with flavorful potato chips prepared, she chewed on each crispy piece, sipping a bit of warm blood through the straw while she read the comic. What? How could she read it without the light? Pfft! Nah! It wasn't like she had a bad habit. She could see through the dark just fine. She was the ruler of the night, a vampire mind you.

"This is the best!"

Now that her new bed aka new playground was completed, she couldn't wait to surprise him with this.

Ruby's cheeks puffed out cutely, one of her shoes lightly kicked dirt on the floor. Summer stood before her new bed with a questioning gaze. Dragging it across the house to the front door was a mistake.

"Sweetie, we grew past the old ways of our ancestors." Her Mom said. "Vampires nowadays don't sleep in a coffin. It was just a way for the pure-blood generations to hide from the sunlight. We, as the half-blood, are different. Unless this is for Halloween, I say you did good with the decoration. Although it doesn't look all that spooky."

Ruby smiled. Well, she did made this for her day. And who needed it to be spooky, Jaune was one of the most fainted heart people in the world. Only the element of surprise was enough.

"But I have to disagree with this." Summer pointed to a certified mail receipt that her daughter stuck on the flat lid with tapes. "Are you seriously going to mail this whole thing to Jaune's house while you're inside it?"

"B-But Mom, it's the only way I can meet him!" Ruby explained. "Jaune said he's busy with his family reunion for a whole week. He won't be able to make it here for Halloween. So I'll go to his place instead."

"It's three days from here to Ansel by transportation." Summer raised an eyebrow. "Even more if you fly there on your wings, it will take at least a week."

Gugh! Ansel was that far!? She thought it only took, like, one and a half day. Ruby was sure she could arrive there at the right time to celebrate the occasion with him. Dust! She didn't think this through!

"It's not like the whole trip will end sooner if you take a nap. Not only that, people in the post office would have a heart attack if they happened to find out that they were delivering a young vampire lady sleeping in a coffin across the continent. It's not a thing for human. And it's also against the regulation."

"But I want to be with Jaune." Ruby replied softly. Downcast silvers fixed on the floor. "There's no fun in celebrating if we can't spend time together on my birthday."

She was really looking forward to it. But with the way things were, it wasn't possible after all.

"Aww. Sweetie, it's okay." With a knowing smile, Summer pulled her daughter in for a hug. "We will figure things out. In fact, maybe Jaune is trying to do something about this situation, just like you've been doing, he's a clever young man. I'm sure there'll be a surprise for you two by the time Halloween came."

"How do you know?" Ruby looked into her mother's eyes, puzzled and curious at the same time.

"Let's just say it's a mother's intuition." Summer winked then turned to the clock. "There's still a long way until dawn. Now roll up your sleeves, call Yang in her room and come with me to the back. We'll transform this house into a chilling haunted castle."

Ruby beamed a bright smile, silvers glittered. That idea sounded so much fun!

"Before we get into work." Summer clasped her hands with a gentle expression. "I was wondering if you can help your mother with a favor."

"Yes! What is it?" Ruby asked, overflowed with excitement.

"Will you allow me to, uhm, you know." She trailed off. Somehow, the fair skin of her cheeks turned to dark shade of red. "Ask Jaune to donate a little bit of his blood?"

Gasp!

Ruby's jaw dropped. What in the holy mackerel biscuit did she just hear!?

"J-Just a bit, a few drops is okay." Summer quickly clarified. "You said it tastes good before. Yang told me the same thing. And of course, I know how picky your are when it comes to blood taste. That's why I'm curious. Just so you know, dear. This is definitely not my vampire's instinct acting up on me."

Shocked! Mom's vampire instinct was acting up! And Yang, her big sis had done something sneaky behind her back! She found out about how ridiculously appetizing Jaune's blood was!? Ruby wanted an answer!

"No Mom! Nope!" She made an X with her arms crossed, totally rejected the idea. "Jaune's mine! I won't give him to you. Or Yang, or anyone!"

"Don't worry, I just wanted to taste his blood. No harm will be done. I'll even bake a cake to thank him later."

"Nope!"

"Ruby, I know it's unreasonable for a mother to ask her daughter something like this. But I assure you I'm not going to ask you to share him or anything down the line. That would be a cliché development, ridiculous even. Besides, Juniper already gave me an okay."

"Wait, what?"

Ruby dropped her tantrum, looking confused at a smiling Summer. Mama Arc agreed to that? Oh. Oh well, um, in that case…...still NOPE!

Jaune fixed the backpack over his shoulder and glanced at the scroll. The evening was just about to set in, right on schedule. If he walked faster, he would arrive at the Rose-Xiao Long residence soon before the whole place turns dark.

There was one problem though.

"Where does this fog comes from?" He muttered.

The flashlight followed his line of sight as he scanned around. Something between the bushes struck his hearing. The densely suspended cloud added more pressure to his anxiety. He didn't remember Patch ever had this kind of weather. The island had a pleasant atmosphere all year around. Maybe he was being overly cautious, but it wasn't like he could help it. Jaune's heart was pounding non-stop. It probably dropped a couple beats in between ever since he set foot on Patch again. The town filled with merry people all pumped up ready for the holiday. Although the costumes and the occasional jump scares really didn't help much for his chicken-hearted nature.

He already had a fair share of spooky encounters with the supernaturals back in the wood where his village resided. Good thing Mom made him wear a charm to reduce the amount of time he fainted in the middle of a conversation with said creatures, especially the werewolves and araches. Dust! It was so embarrassing to admit that!

Having a family whose primary occupation was doctor for both human and the supernatural beings was quite enjoyable, yet sometime getting frightened so easily was a fatal shortcoming for him to actually fit in their line of work. But then again, the annoying drawback didn't stop him from being closed friends with a family of vampires.

Halloween was right around the corner. Their house was not that far away from town, he was on his way there. When the clock struck at twelve tonight, it would be Ruby's day. The timing couldn't be better.

"Oh finally!"

A wave of relief rushed through Jaune when the faint outline of a gate appeared in the thick fog. He ran toward it and pushed. That action seemed to be a wrong call. Something snapped. The gate fell off hinges and crashed on the ground with little strength he applied. The impact cleared his vision.

"What in the…..?"

Jaune froze, mouth opened wide in awe by an ominous structure revealed behind the fog. He was staring at a small castle in the middle of a forest. Did he something end up at the wrong address? Was there actually a castle here in Patch before? Hang on. Think again, Jaune. Was this whole thing a hallucination? There was only one path leading to the residence. He had been here a couple time. No way he could make such a dumb mistake like straying off the road. Did this happen because he listened to that song from a group of sirens back on the ship? No, unlikely. They were bounded to the treaty for decades, they couldn't harm human.

"Maybe it's just me being tired." Jaune said to no one with a heavy sigh. He was going to need a good rest after a three days trip.

He took out his scroll, pondering whether to give the family a call or not. The idea stopped halfway as he saw the name plate.

The words Rose-Xiao Long Residence somehow soaked in a disturbing dark red substance. Dust, he got a shiver just by looking at it. Either way, this was the right place.

Jaune rolled his eyes. Seriously, he was worried for nothing. The family probably went overboard with the decoration, Ruby must had been really excited for her day. Understandable! Halloween was a holiday in vampire's culture, after all. Nothing wrong with reliving the old way of the ancients by going back to the traditional style. Okay! He had nothing to fear here!

Jaune straightened his posture. Confidence surged as he approached the door with the words "Beware of what lies ahead" written in bloody red paint. Heh, it reeked of ketchup. A totally normal setup for the mood!

The doorbell was gone, so he knocked. But the door swung back before his knuckles even made contact. Something fell down from the ceiling. Jaune didn't prepare for it. Sapphires widened in horror. An impaled head with a missing body hung upside down before his face.

"#%$%$!"

By reflex, his hand came up to cover the mouth. He almost fell for it. He almost screamed like a girl. All because of a pumpkin with a bloody face sticker glued to a stick. Typical Halloween jumpscare. Not-Nothing to fear! Yep! He got nothing to be s-s-s-s-scared of!

"Ms. Rose? Guys?"

No one seemed to be at home. Red carpet traced along the corridor. Cold stones and even torches replaced the wooden walls. Even the wind was hissing around the corner, giving him the chill. That warm, lovely cabin stuck in his memory really turned into a creepy medieval castle. Talk about enthusiasm, they actually went all out just for a single holiday.

Leaving his backpack on the floor, Jaune peeked inside the hall, where it used to be the living room.

Fake blood scattered across the ground, a butcher board desk stood where the couch once was. On top it, there were knifes, a stack of plates and trays that contained questionable visual images, which Jaune dubbed as bones and body parts of unknown origins were displayed. Zwei's dog bed was also gone, replaced by a large bowl with a cobweb hung above it. The deep red bag caught in it leaked small drops of liquid of the same color into the bowl. They even included a slaughterhouse theme? Just take a look at all these visuals, sound effects, props and everything. So realistic.

Sapphires then drifted to the object that posed the biggest question mark in his mind. In the middle of the room lied a coffin. Considering the state of the living room, the coffin didn't really fit in with its theme.

He approached it slow and carefully, not wanting to trigger another jumpscare. For some reason, the coffin pinched his interest, the Rose emblem stickers in particular. Unlike the pure-blood clans, the half-blood vampire's mostly shared the same customs with human. He couldn't picture Summer came up with the idea and felt comfortable staying inside such a narrowed place. Only one person with a quirky nature would come up with this.

He lifted the lid. Sapphires widened slightly at the sight.

"Yup. This whole thing is certainly Ruby-ish."

Wrapped in her own cloak, the half-blood vampire Ruby Rose was sleeping inside, surrounded by her favorite comics and snacks. He checked the time, it was already past dusk. A vampire's new day started now.

"Ruby."

"Mhm." She mumbled. "Five more minutes."

Ruby shifted, her back faced him.

"Ruby, wake up. It's morning…..I mean evening."

He gently shook her shoulder. She jolted a bit as a reaction to the touch, and turned her head to him. Silvers peeked under the eyelids. Her hand placed on his and squeezed.

"Guess who."

He smiled. She didn't, her eyes closed followed by a soft yawn. With a yank, she swiftly pulled him inside with little effort. His tall form meant nothing to the strength of a vampire. He totally forgot about Ruby's sleeping habit, she tent to snatch the nearest thing she could grab for a pillow hug.

"Wai-!"

Jaune squeaked. His voice cut off from the outside world once the lid moved back into place.

Click!

And the coffin sealed itself.

It was the best feeling ever.

The warmth and softness between her arms was second to none. Ruby wanted to embrace this sensation all day long without letting go. It reminded her of those times whenever she sneaked behind that broad back of his and gave him a surprise hug. He would always return the gesture with an equal amount of affection.

"Err, Ruby?"

Yeah, he would call her name after that and titled his head a little bit to the left, giving her the perfect angle to peck him on the neck. Jaune was kind to let her drink his blood without asking anything in return. Ruby licked her lip, sharp fangs ready. How she missed it, the taste and the scent of his blood. It was that much irresistible.

Nom~!

"Ouch!"

Huh? The texture didn't feel right. It was soft and oddly thick at the same time. Sniff! Hm, smelled good, kind of like…..softener?

"Ruby, please wake up!"

"Wh-Whuh?"

Silvers finally snapped open. She found herself staring at twitching sapphires. Her fangs dig into his arm with the fabric stuck in between. Yuck! No wonder it tasted funny!

"Wait a second." Ruby muttered under her breath.

She looked at him, one arm already wrapped around his head as she took in all the features that define her dorky boyfriend.

"Jaune!? You're here!" A smile formed on her lip. "But why are you in here?"

"Good question." Jaune replied while he tapped on the lid. "Can you open this? I've been trying and it won't budge."

"Oh, that's probably because of the lock mechanism." She chirpily explained.

"What lock mechanism? Coffin doesn't have that."

"Nah! This is my coffin so you know how it goes." She emphasized. "The lid slips off pretty easily so I have to make it properly seal off whenever I want to."

"So how do we open it?"

"There's a lock snib in here. You just need to push the bar."

"Okay, where is it?"

"I think it's behind you."

Jaune blinked. He started wiggling, moving his arm and shifted his body. It didn't work.

"I can't turn around. It's too cramped in here."

"It's not cramped!" Ruby objected. "I made this big enough for two! Someone tall like you can roll around just fine!"

"My leg stuck down there, Ruby." Jaune sighed. "It's not exactly easy to move in these piles of snacks and comics either. Also, it's pitch-black in here. I can't see anything in this dark except a beautiful pair of shining silvers."

"Fine. I'll do it."

"Thanks."

This dork. He made her blush with that compliment. Her arm stretched past him all the while bringing her face closer to his. Smooch! Her lip tapped his cheek, that was payback. Wait, he chuckled? Get another one!

"S-Stop, you know I can't do anything in this tiny place!"

"Expect more, Jaune. Cause my day is coming. I can do whatever I want!"

"You're weird." He grinned.

"You're the weird one." She retorted with the same expression. "Sneaking into my coffin while I was sleeping."

"In my defense, your bad habit happened. I tried to wake you up."

"Then you know better than to go near me, Jaune. You're asking yourself to be my hug pillow."

"That…...okay, that's true."

"Stay still now. I can't find the lock yet."

"I am doing it."

She continued to shift, snuggling closer to his body. Strands of blonde hair tickled her chin as she leaned her head over his. Neat and silky, she felt. She breathed in the gentle fragrance on his hair. It was quite pleasant.

"Jaune."

"Hm?"

"I like this shampoo."

"It's the one Ms. Rose recommended to me. I like it, too. The aroma is just right for a sensitive nose, she said."

Really? Thanks Mom!

Found it. Her hand felt the cold touch of metal. The lock bar held firmly between her fingers as she pushed it.

Crack!

"…"

"…"

"Ruby, are you done?"

"Err, hang on."

Crack!

"…...oh…" She uttered.

"What is it?" He asked.

Silvers looked back into sapphires, Jaune was eager to get out. But Ruby had bad news.

"Jaune, I think it's jammed."

"What!?"

They were locked in. She saw his face turned pale by the second.

"It's okay!" Ruby assured. "The lock goes both way, Mom and Yang can unlock it from the other side."

"Oh." Jaune was relieved. "Good to know. Do you know where they are?"

"They went out to fetch some materials. Mom probably won't be back until midnight."

"Then-"

"I left my scroll upstair."

Groan!

"Hey, it's fine. At least you're stuck with me."

"Together-together, huh. Somehow, that still makes me worried."

Ruby pouted. Jaune shrugged, he was just being honest about the whole situation.

"So, do you wanna read some comics?" Ruby offered.

"I can't see anything in here." Jaune shot it down.

"Wanna eat snack?"

"I'm full, Ruby. I grabbed a quick meal in town before I got here."

"Then how about gaming?"

"My scroll battery died." He gave her a dried smile.

"How come nothing work with you?" She whined.

"I didn't think this would happen."

Jaune began to shift, the left arm stuck underneath his side could finally move freely. The leg took more effort to budge but he didn't mind about it for the time being. Ruby let out a soft yelp as his arms circled around her.

"But I'm glad this doesn't turn out so bad. Like you said, I got you here with me."

She murmured something. Her voice didn't come out. Her small arms also hooked around his neck. Her face leaned on his hair.

"I thought you couldn't make it here." She spoke softly. "You could have told me something."

"Well, I'm here. Lucky me I got some help from my Mom and Saphron. When things back home were solved pretty quickly, I packed my stuff as fast as I could. I wanted to surprise you." He chuckled. "And you know how it went. We're stuck in your new bed."

"You're such a dork." She whispered dreamily.

"That's my line."

"Did you bring any present?"

Jaune grinned, that was the question he looked forward to the most.

"In my backpack."

"I love you, Jaune!" She giggled. He said the same thing, too.

"By the way, I've been wanting to ask." A sudden change in topic. "What's with the fog outside? I don't remember Patch having this kind of weather."

"That's the machine's doing. We got some old Atlas technologies in the pawn shop downtown. You know, just to create the atmosphere."

"Why picked castle?"

"That's Mom's idea. She wants to go all out on Halloween this year. We still need to decorate the second floor."

"Cool!" Jaune added. "Although I don't think my heart can handle this level of horror."

"Yep, It's really cool! Mom did her best to design the entire house, you see. She even baked cakes and shaped them like body parts and the gory stuff. Lots of works. Urgh!" She trembled in an exaggerated manner. "I got tired so I slept here. This bed took me days to make, Jaune. Behold my remarkable talent!"

"How did you come up with this?"

"Well, I….err….I…" She stuttered, a deep shade of pink spread on her face. "It's an old custom of vampire. My ancestors used to travel the world in this thing without having to worry about the sun. I wanted to meet you in Ansel. That's why I made this when you said you couldn't be here. Well, I made it big enough for two to sleep in. Kind of want to c-cuddle together and have our own privacy, you see."

Jaune would have lied to himself if he said he didn't feel the hot sensation crawling on his cheeks. It was nice of his girlfriend to make this for the two of them. Sure, the fresh wood mixed with rose scent somewhat helped him relaxed. Then again, too dark, kind of small. It didn't feel like the kind of place for a human to sleep in, anyway.

"I doubt staying in this box is healthy for you. I mean have you look at your ancestors? They were undead, no heartbeat, ash-liked skin. And you are like, half-human."

"I'm proud of the other half, okay! I'm a vampire, Jaune. A superior noctural being, enemy of the sunlight!"

"You can walk under the sun without getting burned." Jaune countered.

"And I hate garlic!" Ruby wasn't done.

"That's just your appetite. Ms. Rose and Yang can eat them just fine. I even bought a garlic perfume as a present."

"Eww! Gross! Throw that away!" Ruby stuck out her tongue. "Don't tell me you're gonna spray it on me!"

"Who knows, maybe I've already wrapped it as a gift for you." Jaune jokingly said.

"Quiet! You know what, Jaune. Show me your neck, I'll suck your blood!" She demanded.

That wasn't much of a order to him. Jaune stuck out his neck as told, eyes closed shut. The smirk he failed to hide gave away his intention.

"It will be my honor." He didn't even bother to hide anything. "Ten seconds rule, you count."

"No. I'll make it twenty." Silvers brightened in the dark, her fangs shown to him. Ready for action.

"Woah there, I'll faint!"

"It's not my fault if I can't control my instinct, blame your precious blood! You let Yang drink it while in fact, you belong to me. This is compensation! Hey! Stop shaking! I sharpened my fangs yesterday. You won't feel any tickle."

"Hang on, Yang ambushed me! I didn't kno-"

Jaune went silent as she pressed her lip against his. She leaned toward his neck. He froze in place as that bold and sweet sensation got a good grasp on his mind. The grip on his torso tightened. She gently placed her mouth on his flesh.

"Wait wait!"

"What?"

"Happy Birthday to you!"

He expected her reaction to be a joyful one. Instead, she gave him a deadpanned look.

"Jaune. It's not even past midnight."

"Oh." He realized that just now. Sapphires awkwardly glanced sideways, avoided the glare from her. "Err, whoops?"

"You spoke too soon!"

Nom~!

Jaune gasped, he could feel the vibration in his veins. Ruby the vampire wholeheartedly enjoyed devouring the amazingly warm and delicious flow under the skin. After a moment, she tore away from him. Silvers glittered and dazed in complete satisfaction.

It was pure bliss.

Click!

The coffin opened.

"Oh my."

Summer's eyes widened, one hand cover the knowing smile on her face. Next to her, Yang whistled at the sight.

Ruby was cuddling Jaune, her hands remained on his shoulders. The red cloak she worn covered both of them like a blanket. Her face buried into his chest, breathing soundly with an occasional "love you" whisper. Two distinguished marks of her fangs were visible at the side of his neck. Small traces of dried blood lingered on the skin. Jaune snored quietly, his arms wrapped around Ruby's waist, holding her close. A thin smile stayed on his lip despite the exhausted look given after being drained.

"Well, these two look happy." Yang said. "Should we wake them up?"

Summer hummed, a finger under her chin as she watched the couple sleeping peacefully.

"Let's them sleep." She voiced her thought. "We can celebrate her birthday in the morning. Jaune needs some good rest after coming all the way here."

"Does that means we'll switch to being diurnal for one day?" Lilacs glittered with stars. Yang loved where this conversation was going.

"Yup!" Summer nodded. "We'll have a picnic under the sun."

"Awesome, Mom! Can I use my bike?"

"No, we have Zippy."

"Oh." The stars in her eyes popped. Yang rolled her eyes, uninterested. "Fine, I'll go see what Jaune got for me in his backpack. I've always liked his choice of gifts for us."

Zip!

Lilacs shone. Yang saw a little present, neatly wrapped in ribbon with Ruby's name written outside. She noticed two more, they were for her and Summer. Aside from personal belongings, there was one large container of blood packs with detail description, specially prepared by Juniper Arc. Not hesitating, Yang casually took one out, earning a frown from Summer.

"Mom, check this out. He got Leviathan's blood type! It's like, the rarest one on the market right now!"

"Sweetie. That's not very polite."

"He'll understand, he always does." She popped the cap and took a sip. The flavor made her shiver in delight. "Aww, that hit all the right spot! Just gonna get me some food with this then I'll take a nap."

"Oh how I wish you take after Tai a little more." Summer sighed. "Not the other way around."

"Nope." Yang laughed. "I like this me more~."

She took a plate from the butcher desk board, scooped a slice of bone cake, another slice of human head cake and one Beetle Grimm cookie. She didn't forget to pour the homemade syrup, from the bowl, directly on top.

"See you in the morning, Mom. I'll thank him later."

"Good night, Yang."

Once Yang returned to her room upstairs, Summer shifted her attention to the box Ruby had built. Seeing two teenagers sleeping inside a coffin almost made her shook her head at how awkward and bizarre this could look from the outside. Still, they looked so cute together. She gave Jaune's hair a little stroke, his head unconsciously pushed into her palm. How endearing, she would give him more of that tomorrow. Yes, while taking the chance to ask him for blood donation. Better keep that a secret from Ruby.

Summer ran a hand across her daughter's hair and brushed a few strands behind the ear. The clock already pointed at midnight. The day was October 31st.

"Happy Birthday, my sweet little Rose."

A sigh of content drew between Ruby's lip.

Author's Note: Just a one-shot about the Lancaster pairing I came up for Halloween. Originally, this was supposed to be a 1000 words snippet with only one scene but somehow the number went up. I guess I enjoyed writing Ruby as a vampire.

Thank you for reading. Take care!
