"And you're absolutely sure you don't want me telling anyone about this?" Wade asked a rather under the weather Kim.
"Yes, I'm sure." Kim answered with a sniffle.
"Well…..alright then. Get well soon Kim."
"Thanks Wade." Kim had gotten in before Wade beeped out of the Kimmunicator.
After blowing her nose into another tissue, Kim had mentally cursed Drakken. The blue doctor's latest scheme involved a modified version of Ray X that, instead of curing the common cold, caused a rather nasty and long lasting case of said common cold.
She and her beloved boyfriend Ron, and of course the naked mole rat Rufus, had managed to put an end to that plan, but along the way she unfortunately got blasted with an EMP wave of sorts that still got her sick despite the device not being fully complete yet.
And the worst part of the whole ordeal was that, according to Wade's analysis, the blast would leave her stuck with the sniffles for two months. Sure it could be cured faster if properly taken care of with Chicken Soup and all those other things that help with this kind of thing. But that ray was more powerful than anyone anticipated and Wade determined that the canned chicken soup her family keeps around the house sadly wouldn't help in any significant way.
Needless to say Kim was not pleased to hear that. She was dreading going through this for two months, even if she got plenty of rest, and hoped there would be some way to speed up the recovery process. But with what she had access to it didn't seem like such a miracle would occur.
The only upside she could think of right now was that Wade had agreed to keep her cold a secret. Not a method she'd be in favor of normally but circumstances were a little different right now. The tweebs had managed to score a spot in a pretty elaborate science fair out of town, but said fair lasted a week so the possible parents needed to be there with them. And for who knows what reason, the fair had a limit on guests. Jim and Tim could only bring two of their own and Kim knew her parents really wanted to be there for her brothers.
Kim would have been there too but you know, limit on guests. So she had to suffice with wishing the tweebs good luck and giving them some positive encouragement. Which ironically worked out for the best considering her current state. And sure Ron came by her place often, but he also ended up with a week long plan.
Middleton was opening up a brand new, as Ron and Felix called it, super arcade. And Kim had to admit that "super" was a fitting description. Not every arcade was packed with so many games, and merch, and other gamer paradise things that it warranted a grand opening where the first hundred or so people in line could sign up for a 7 day pass that granted free access to everything in the arcade. Well ok you had to drop some cash to buy the pass, but it was still the cheaper option.
Ron and Felix both were really excited but Ron was noticeably less vocal about it. When she asked him why he had told her it was because the whole thing reminded him of that Zombie Mayhem Charity event that left Kim feeling jealous of the time he was spending with Felix.
He was excited for the arcades grand opening but he felt uneasy about the risk of putting Kim through that again. He knew video games weren't her thing so he was internally conflicted with trying to attend or skipping out on it so he could take his girlfriend on a date once Friday hit or something along those lines.
Kim looked back on that conversation with a smile, appreciating how sweet Ron was.
"I really appreciate your concern Ron. But I wouldn't want you to miss out on this when you're really looking forward to it. Go ahead and set up some plans to make it in line for the pass. I'll be alright."
"You're sure Kim?" Ron had asked, wanting to make sure she was really okay with this.
"Positive." Kim reassured her boyfriend with a loving smile and a kiss.
Kim had hoped her family and Ron were all having a good time at their respective events. She did feel pretty bad being sick, especially since this was just her first day out of two whole months of it, but she didn't want that getting in the way of her loved ones enjoying themselves.
Ron had even called her yesterday to gush about the grand opening of that super arcade only being a day away. She had yet to understand the craze since she had only recently started thinking about getting into a few games that she and Ron could spend some quality time on. But it was nice to hear her boyfriend so excited. She even delved into a few questions about the event to grasp a better understanding on the whole gaming thing. It was a nice conversation. Though Kim could have done without the occasional minor sniffle during it.
After she finished remembering the reason she asked Wade not to tell anyone that she was sick, Kim thought to try and whip up some chicken soup. The canned stuff may not be able to really help her, but she figured that eating it would at least make her feel a little less miserable. At least until the bowl was empty.
Once she finished letting out a sneeze, she tried to get up to head to the pantry. But as quickly as she got up, she returned to her bed. She wasn't feeling well enough to want to go through the effort. So she just laid there for a few minutes until an unexpected noise graced her ears.
"Hey KP. How you feeling?"
Kim looked up in shock to see Ron entering her room with a tray that had something steamy coming out of the bowl.
"Ron. *sniffle* what are you doing here? What about the grand opening?"
"Oh Kim. Who's got time for Video Games when you're feeling sick?"
"Ugh, did Wade tell you about this? I asked him to keep it a secret." Kim said with an annoyed look on her face.
"Wade knows too? Well he didn't tell me. It's just that given what Drakken's latest ray was supposed to do coupled with you sounding a little sniffly on the phone yesterday, I had a feeling that you might be coming down with a cold. And I couldn't shake that feeling so I came to check on you."
Laying back down in her bed, Kim replied "But you were really looking forward to that place this week."
"It's alright. This is just the week it opens. It'll still be around later. Besides, I wouldn't want to spend a whole week there if you're sick at home all by yourself." Ron explained with that warm smile that made her heart melt.
"You should know Ron, Wade's analysis said that I'll have this cold for two months."
"Two Months?!" Ron replied in shock. "Well, good thing I saved up so much vacation time with Smarty Mart. Cause it sounds like I'll be taking care of you for a while."
Kim in turn gave a smile of her own and felt a tear coming on. "That makes me feel so touched. Thank You Ron."
"Anytime Kim. Now here, open up." Ron said as he got a spoonful of the soup he brought up on the tray.
Kim giggled in delight at the fact that her boyfriend was feeding her. She gladly accepted this offer and took the spoonful of soup into her mouth. Upon doing so, she was once again surprised.
"What kind of soup is that? It tastes way better than the stuff in my pantry."
With a light blush, Ron answered her inquiry "Oh, well. I…...kind of had the mindset that the common canned stuff wasn't good enough for my sweetheart. So I dropped by the grocery store on the way here and picked some ingredients to cook some myself. Even managed to set up a delivery service account. So I can just order more straight here if I need them."
A lovestruck Kim replied "That's so sweet. This really means a lot to me, Ron."
"It's no big deal." Ron said in appreciation.
"But it is." Kim said back. "I was feeling really miserable dealing with this by myself. But now I've got you here to take care of me, cook for me, and even feed me. If it wouldn't risk giving you my cold I would kiss you like crazy right now."
"I'll take you up on that once you're all better. Deal?"
"Deal."
*1 week later*
Kim felt like she was in paradise. Well, as close to paradise as one can get when they're sick, but everything Ron was doing for her made her feel all warm and fuzzy. Thanks to that grocery delivery account he had set up, he didn't need to leave her house in order to grab things to cook with. So he had spent the whole week looking after her and never left her side.
And his cooking, oh god his cooking, she thought it was impressive what he displayed when they first took home economics in school. But his culinary skills had been going full force all week. Sure he kept things limited to meals recommended for feeling better when you have a cold, but his meals were still phenomenal.
The recipe for that Cold Fighting Chicken Noodle Soup he fed her on her first day of being sick still tasted great. But that was only the start. Homemade Yogurt, Oatmeal with some of her favorite fruits, expertly brewed Tea, and all kinds of salads with the stuff that's supposed to help her recover. Her two favorites being the Romaine and Smoked Salmon Salad and the Broccoli Salad with Apples and Cranberries.
As much as Kim loved their fancy restaurant dates, she had to admit that the idea of a romantic candlelit dinner in the dining room with Ron's cooking on their plates was starting to give those restaurant's some competition.
"Mmmmmm. That feels good Ronnie." Kim purred as Ron was applying a newly discovered talent of his. He had thought that a few massages would help soothe Kim but he had never done it before so he was a little nervous about it.
Kim liked the idea though and encouraged him to give it a try. And she was really glad she did. Over the past week Ron had given her plenty of back rubs, as well as plenty of shoulder rubs like the one she was currently receiving. She knew that once she was feeling better she had to ask Ron to keep doing those. They felt really good.
And this was a request she had a feeling she'd be making a lot sooner than she expected. Sure the blast was supposed to leave her sick for two months, but as Wade pointed out, she could feel better sooner with a proper amount of care and the nutrients found in the things Ron cooked for her.
Ron's massages certainly helped her to take it easy and she had been eating Ron's cooking all week. She still had her cold, but she was feeling much better. And much sooner than she expected to at that. She had informed Wade of this earlier that morning and asked him to drop another analysis to see if the effects of the blast were wearing off.
Wade had agreed. And he expected to have the results any minute now.
In the meantime Kim was just enjoying her shoulder rub when she and Ron heard the door open.
"Oh I'm so proud of you two." Mrs. Dr. P had exclaimed to her sons.
"No kidding. You two earned quite a few ribbons for your inventions." Their father stated with pride.
"Thanks. Wait until Kim sees them." The twins had proclaimed.
"Oh I'm sure she'll be really happy for you tw…...Kimmie!" the mother of the possible family exclaimed in shock at seeing her daughter looking sick.
"Oh, hey mom." Kim replied casually. "How'd the science fair go?"
"It uh…..it went great Kimmie Cub. But what about you? You look like you've caught a cold." Her father inquired with concern.
"Maybe she got infected with too many cooties?" Jim joked with a hint of disgust.
"Well considering that Ron's rubbing her shoulders." Tim sarcastically added.
"Very funny tweebs." Kim pointed out with a lack of enthusiasm. "It was Drakken's ray about a week ago. Apparently it was complete enough to make me catch this."
"Wait, you've been like this all week?! Why didn't you call us?" Kim's mom asked with worry for her daughter.
"I didn't want it to hang over your guys' shoulders during the science fair. You don't need to worry. Ron figured it out on my first day of this cold, and he's been nursing me back to health ever since."
"That's very considerate of you Kimmie, but next time at least give us a call so that we know and can hopefully do something. We wouldn't want you to be stuck like this by yourself." The possible father pointed out.
"Okay. I'll let you know if this happens again."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
Her father gained a reassured smile. "Ok. And Ronald, thank you for being here for her this week. It's good to know someone was looking after her."
"Anytime Dr. P"
*Beep Beep Be-Beep*
Kim picked up the Kimmunicator. "Go Wade."
"I've got some good news. Thanks to "Dr. Stoppable's" treatment, the effects of Drakken's Ray are just about gone. Keep up what you've been doing and you should be up to snuff again in 3 days."
"Phew, that is good news." Anne Possible sighed in relief.
"Just 3 more days and you'll be good to go again. Isn't that great Kim?" Ron had asked with excitement.
"It sure is. But I have to admit, part of me will miss having you take care of me. Between the shoulder rubs, you cooking for me, and you feeding me what you cook, I feel like a pampered princess."
"It's what I'm here for KP. Now how about we switch to a back rub?"
"Sounds heavenly."
Kim started to purr with delight as Ron started massaging her back. Her parent's took the gagging tweebs out of the living room to give the couple some privacy.
*3 days later*
Ron awoke from his sleep on the possible family couch. He took a look at the clock to make sure he didn't oversleep. Ever since Kim's family had come back they'd been able to help assist with her recovery. But Ron was still motivated to do whatever he could and didn't want to let sleeping in keep him from doing so.
Fortunately he didn't oversleep. As a matter of fact he was up a little bit early as by this hour the possible family would still be asleep. With a yawn, he got up to head to the kitchen and make breakfast. He was just about to step in when he heard a very pleasant greeting.
"Good morning baby." His girlfriend smiled at him, having awoken from her slumber as well.
"Morning Kim. How are you feeling? It looks like you're doing way better."
"That's because I am. I had Wade run another analysis. The effects of that ray and the cold it brought are done and over with. Kim Possible is back in action."
"Awesome! That's great to hear KP!" Ron blurted out.
Kim walked slowly to Ron with a wanting smile on her face. "Yup. And now that I'm all better, there's something I've been wanting to do for over a week now, and my parents won't be up for another couple of hours" Kim said as she wrapped her arms around Ron's neck and gestured her eyes to the couch.
With a slightly mischievous smile, Ron replied. "Well I did say I would take you up on it once you were feeling better."
"That you did. Pucker up Honey." Kim leapt up to wrap her legs around Ron's waist as he carried her over to the couch so they could kiss the morning away.
