Chapter 3: Friends Are the Best Medicine

"Lila? Lila, are you okay?" Heather exclaimed, nudging her friend.

"DON'T BITE MY ARM OFF!" Lila screamed, bolting awake, then panting.

"Lila, what's wrong?" Barney asked, concerned.

Lila sighed with relief as she felt her arms was still in place. "It was just a dream." Lila smiled before shuddering. "No. It was a nightmare!"

"A nightmare?" Heather asked.

"A nightmare is a very unpleasant dream." Barney explained.

"Oh." Heather said. "It was so scary. Lucy was there, but she didn't act like Lucy. Then the monster grabbed my arm, and..." Lila said before going under the covers and shuddering.

"It's okay, Lila." Barney assured. "Nothing can hurt you."

"I want my mom and dad." Lila murmured.

"I'm sure they'll be back soon." Barney said.

"Lila, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have brought that movie over if I knew it was gonna scare you." Heather said, feeling guilty.

"It's okay." Lila said. "I'm gonna go get some water." She then went to the bathroom.

"I hope she feels better." Heather said, before she had an idea and grabbed the phone. "Charlie?" she whispered, into it. Lila then came back in with a glass of water and plopped back onto the bed. "Here. It's for you." Heather smiled, handing the phone to Lila.

"Hello?" Lila asked.

"Hi Lila. Heather told me about what happened. I'm sorry that you had a bad dream." Charlie Brown said.

"Thank you, Charlie." Lila smiled.

"It's gonna be okay." Charlie Brown said, whispering.

"Why are you whispering?" Lila asked.

"In case Sally wakes up." Charlie Brown explained.

"Oh. Okay." Lila said. "Can you please sing to me? It'll help me calm down."

"Sure. What song?" Charlie Brown asked.

"Someone to Love You Forever." Lila requested.

Charlie Brown smiled. "Okay."

Charlie Brown:

I know you're frightened and feel all alone

Not sure if you really belong

But Lila, with us

You will always be home

And that's why I'll sing you this song

I'll be someone to love you, forever

I'll stay with you when you're lonely and sad.

Just look in my eyes and you'll see

It doesn't matter if you're good or bad.

There's no one more special to me.

I'll be someone to love you forever,

Sharing tomorrow together.

When you reach out to me,

I will always be someone to love you forever.

Someone to love you, forever

Sharing tomorrow together

When you reach out to me,

I will always be...

Someone to love you, forever

"Thank you." Lila smiled as she felt more relaxed and handed the phone back to Heather.

"See you tomorrow, honey." Heather whispered.

"That was so nice, Heather. Feel better?" Barney asked.

"A little bit." Lila said. "But I don't wanna go back to sleep. I might have another nightmare."

"It'll be okay, Lila. It's only a dream. And you're completely safe." Heather assured.

"I don't know..." Lila shook her head. "I can't shake the dream."

"Why don't you try thinking good thoughts?" Barney suggested. "Stuff that makes you happy."

Lila blinked. "I guess that can work." Lila then began to think of stuff that makes her happy, letting her smile get bigger.

"See? You're already smiling!" Heather smiled.

Heather:

When I feel happy, I can smile

The biggest smile I know.

Then you can see my happies show.

Ha, ha, ha

Hee, hee, hee

Come on, get silly

And laugh with me

Giggle gaggle wiggle waggle

Ho, ho, ho

When you're feeling happy, let it show

Lila finally began to giggle.

Lila:

I got the sillies and when you get 'em,

You'll be silly like me.

I can't stop laughing as you can see.

Heather and Lila:

Ha, ha, ha

Hee, hee, hee

Come on, get silly

And laugh with me

Giggle gaggle, wiggle waggle

Ho, ho, ho

Lila:

When you got the sillies, let it show

Heather and Lila then grinned as they approached Barney, wanting to tickle him. "Tickle fight!" Heather smiled.

"Oh no!" Barney giggled as both girls started to tickle him.

Barney:

I've got a tickle; it makes me wiggle.

It makes me jiggle too.

Can't hold it in. I just gotta giggle.

Barney, Heather and Lila:

Ha, ha, ha

Hee, hee, hee

Come on, get silly

And laugh with me

Giggle gaggle, wiggle waggle

Ho, ho, ho

Barney:

I'm getting tickled

Here we go

Barney, Heather and Lila:

Ha, ha, ha

Hee, hee, hee

Come on, get silly

And laugh with me

Giggle gaggle, wiggle waggle

Ho, ho, ho

Heather:

When you're feeling happy

Lila:

When you've got the sillies

Barney:

When you're getting tickled

Barney, Heather and Lila:

Let it show!

The three began to catch their breaths, still smiling.

"Now do you feel better?" Heather smiled.

"Yeah...but I don't know if I still want to go to sleep. I really don't like it when I have nightmares." Lila said, still shuddering a bit.

"Well, why don't you try taking deep breaths?" Barney suggested.

"I guess. Would you do it with me?" Lila asked Heather.

"Sure." Heather nodded.

"Just think happy stuff." Snoopy suggested. "Like...chocolate chip cookies."

"And bunnies." Lila smiled as she began to take deep breaths.

"And teddy bears." Heather smiled.

"See? Do you feel more relaxed?" Barney asked.

Lila nodded. "Barney, please sing us another lullaby. Maybe two." Lila requested.

"Of course." Barney smiled.

"WOO HOO!" Snoopy cheered, as he flopped in bed.

Barney:

Lullaby and good night Now the daytime is over

Time to slip up to your dreamland

I will keep you safe and warm

Lullaby and good night

There is nothing to fear

Lullaby and good night

When you wake I'll be near

Lullaby and good night

There is nothing to fear

Lullaby and good night

When you wake I'll be near

Heather yawned, as Snoopy stretched. Lila cuddled Red tightly.

Now it's time, snuggle up, little one.

Hold me tight, snuggle up, day is done.

It's Bedtime with Barney all over the world.

Bedtime with Barney for all boys and girls.

Lila smiled. "I like that song."

Time to sleep, time to dream, little one.

Close your eyes, covers up. Night has come.

It's Bedtime with Barney. Let's turn out the light.

Bedtime with Barney.

I love you; good night.

"Good night, Barney." Heather and Lila whispered.

"Good night, girls." Barney smiled before both girls fell asleep.
