Chapter 9: Training

Back in Looney Tune Land, at the gym, some of the toons were working out while watching a Richard Simmons workout video. "You're doing it! You're becoming mighty! Go!" said Richard. "Come on guys. No pain, no gain," said Porky. "I don't hear it! What is it?" asked Richard. "Come on," said Foghorn. "Come on," said Porky. "Now shake it! Keep on sweating!" said Richard.

At that moment, Bugs came into the gym. "Eh, guys?" asked Bugs. "Yes?" asked the other toons. "Look who's finally ready to play," said Bugs. The toons looked on with awe as Michael Jordon came in wearing basketball clothes. "Let's see if I remember how to do this," said Michael. Michael started practicing his moves and everybody was impressed that Michael was back in business. He kept slam dunking the ball in the hoop. "Ooh la la!" said Fifi. At one point as he was watching, Daffy Duck's eyes actually went down through hoops as well. After doing one more slam dunk, Michael began to hear some clapping. It was Stan. "Michael!" cried Stan.

Michael stopped and turned to see him. "Is it really you?! Oh!" said Stan. He ran up to him and hugged him happily. "Thank goodness you're all right! You're all right! Oh! I was so worried!" said Stan. "Come on, Stan. Don't hug me, please," said Michael, feeling annoyed. "Sorry," said Stan as he stopped hugging him. "What are you doing here?" asked Michael. "I gotta take you back. You got baseball practice," said Stan. "I can't. I'm helping my friends in their basketball game," said Michael. Stan turned to see the toons, who are smiling and waving at him. "Uh, Michael, do you know that your friends are cartoon characters?" asked Stan. "Yeah. So?" asked Michael. "No, no. Doesn't bother you, doesn't bother me. Let me help! Let me help! I can help! Let me help!" said Stan.

"What can you do?" asked Michael. Stan took the ball and began to dribble. "Well, you know what I mean. I may not be very tall, but I'm slow," said Stan. "And large," said Sylvester, moving his belly. "And a dork," said Daffy. "I'll do anything, Michael! Anything!" said Stan. "Anything?" asked Michael. "Anything," said Stan. Michael escorted Stan to the benches. "Come here. Come here for a second. Sit right here," said Michael. Tweety was sitting down by Granny on the benches. "Okay," said Stan. He almost sat on Tweety, but he moved out of the way. He blew a raspberry at Stan "Okay?" asked Michael. "Okay. No problem," said Stan. He clapped. "All right! All right! Let's go, team!" said Stan. "You know, if somebody gets injured, we could see a lot of minutes," said Stan to Granny. "I'm a cheerleader," said Granny, holding out some pompoms.

The next morning, everybody was gathered at the gym for some training. Lola was going to address some stuff before beginning. "Okay. Listen up everybody. We got to train for tonight's big game. Before we begin, I want to go over some stuff. You need to focus on actually planning the sport and not your looney antics. So that means no chasing your enemies and rivals cause we're all part of the same team. The Monstars are the enemies for this game, not your long time ones," said Lola.

Lola turned to Elmyra Duff. "Elmyra Duff, I've been getting complaints about how you're more focused on trying to get new pets instead of being focused on the game. In this game, you're goal is to not get new pets. Your goal is to help us win the big game. Your freedom is your #1 priority in tonight's game. You need to focus on playing basketball and nothing else. Especially after I was told this by Furrball," said Lola. "What did kitty witty tell you?" asked Elmyra. "He and Penelope encountered the Monstars yesterday and they told them that they're not going to enslave those two, claiming they have no talents. So if we lose and they take us to Moron Mountain, they'll leave Furrball and Penelope behind. In other words, if we lose, you'll never see your precious kitty witty ever again," said Lola. Upon hearing those words, Elmyra was horrified and began to imagine the bad scenario. She imagined herself being seized by Pound and her trying to reach for Furrball, but unable to grab his hand. "I don't wanna lose my kitty!" cried Elmyra. "Good. Now you finally comprehend what's at stake," said Lola.

Lola next turned to the Perfecto Prep students. "As for you Perfecto Prep students, no matter how tempting, I do not want to see you do any of your dirty cheating. If we're to win, we must do it fair and square," said Lola. She paused. "And there's one more issue I want to address. I've been told that you toons are not letting Furrball participate in practice yesterday. I don't care if you think Furrball is bad luck or that you hate cats, he must participate. Sylvester and Sylvester Jr. are cats and yet you're letting them participate," said Lola. "What you're doing is very hypocritical," said another voice. Everybody saw that the voice belonged to Julie Bruin. "It's not fair that you're letting Sylvester and his son play, but not Furrball. I don't care if you think he's bad luck. Everybody must play a part in the game. And that includes Furrball," said Julie. "I couldn't have said it better myself," said Michael. "Plus, Meechael's daughtair tahld me zat she likes Furrbahll ahnd I prahmised hair zat we'll ensure Furrbahll gets to play," said Fifi. Furrball smiled, seeing how there were other people showing compassion for him. Sweetie Pie was enraged in her mind. Somebody actuawwy wikes a dat putty tat?! What is dis world coming to?!, thought Sweetie. Lola then clapped her gloved paws, saying, "Now let's get to work, people . . . and animals!"

After Lola said her speech, Julie Bruin went to the locker room to change into a basketball uniform. As Julie was heading for the locker room, she heard Furrball approach her. "Julie, wait," said Furrball. "Yes, Furrball?" asked Julie. "You stood up for me. No non cat person other than Fifi has ever stood up for me. Why?" asked Furrball. "I couldn't just let them snub you out like that, bad luck or not. Everybody must have a part in earning our freedom. The truth is . . . I love cats," said Julie.

Furrball's eyes widened upon hearing Julie's words. "You . . . love . . . cats?" asked Furrball. "Yes. When I was a little girl, I had a cat for a pet. She died before I went to college. Just because you and other cats eat mice, birds and fish, it doesn't make you heartless monsters. You're just following your instincts," said Julie. Tears began to form in Furrball's eyes. "I have very few friends in the world. Fifi, Ash, Pikachu & their companions, Sylvester Jr., Elmyra's brother; Duncan, Tyrone, Anais and Little Beeper are my only friends. Everybody else treats me like a criminal. But hearing how you love cats, it just . . . touches me," said Furrball. "It's okay. It's okay. I'm here," said Julie as she picked up Furrball to hug him. "Shh, shh," said Julie. Whether it was intentional or not, Julie had Furrball's face pressed against her large breasts. This caused Furrball's face to become flustered pink. "I'm going to go get changed into a basketball outfit before we start practicing," said Julie. "Okay. Thank you for standing up for me back there," said Furrball. "Your welcome," said Julie. She gave Furrball a kiss on the forehead, leaving a red kiss mark. The female bear then put him down and went to the locker room. Furrball's cheeks blushed pink and he let out a chuckle.

Very soon, everybody began to train for the big game tonight. Lola and Michael made sure that everybody stayed focused on actually playing the game. When Penelope told Sylvester and Sylvester Jr. about what the Monstars said about black and white cats, they were angry too. That really got the two to get motivated on focusing on training. As part of the training, three of the toons were stacked on top of each other, disguised as a Monstar, in attempt to block one of the toons from making the shot. The toons took turns posing as a Monstar.

The unexperienced toons weren't doing well with their training at first. For example, Elmer Fudd attempted to shoot a basket only to trip over some untied shoelaces. "Terrible!" Lola criticized. "Keep those laces tied." Barky Marky with his tongue hanging out, was running to make a shot, only to get tripped up by his tongue, sending him to the ground, with the ball slipping out of his paws and hitting the hoop, but not into the net itself. Lola advised with her eyes rolling, "Maybe keep your tongue inside and you could actually make the basket!" Pepé was doing his usual hopping, while holding the ball with his tail. But since his eyes were closed, he crashed into Fowlmouth and the two toppled over. "Keep your eyes open when heading for the hoop," said Lola. Lola face palmed after watching Sweetie get pummeled. "What is wrong with you guys? Do you want to go to Moron Mountain?" groaned Lola. "No," groaned Sweetie. "Then put more effort into your training," said Lola. She then saw Yakko and Wakko staring at some of the girls pervertedly. Lola just threw the ball the two, which bounced between their two heads. "Keep your eyes on the game, not the girls," said Lola. Babs Bunny turned to Fifi La Fume as they practiced. "Is this what it was like when Lola was training you to play basketball properly?" asked Babs. "Oui. She tahkes ze spahrt seriously. she ees one mean dreell sergeant," said Fifi.

But eventually, the toons got better at their training. Thanks to Lola's motivation, Elmyra was actually putting effort into playing the game instead of chasing the animal toons. Michael and Lola also kept a very sharp eye on the Perfecto Prep students to make sure they didn't cheat. In order to participate in the game for effectively, Brain had build special robotic suits for him and Pinky. They were built with the body build of a basketball player. The training was the field test for Brain's newest inventions. Besides Granny, Witch Hazel was a cheerleader too.

"Excuse moi," said a voice. Everybody stopped and saw the voice belonged to Fleur La Fume. "I've fineeshed designeeng ze outfeets zat you're ahll going to wear tahnight," said Fleur. "Good work, Fleur," said Bugs. "Ziss first uneefahrm, I'll hahve ze Roadrunnair try on," said Fleur. Roadrunner stepped forward and Fleur slipped the outfit over the desert bird. Roadrunner looked at himself in the mirror and saw he only wore a shirt. On the back, the numbers 00 were on it. As for the front, it displayed the team name: "Tune Squad". "Tune Squad. Not a bad name," said Bugs. "Merci," said Fleur.

Fifi decided to make a phone call to Ash and his friends. They were at a Pokémon Center near Lake Valor. Besides Ash, Pikachu, Brock, Dawn, Verity and Sorrel, May happened to be visiting as well. She wore clothes that were different from the ones she wore in Hoenn. May now wore a green bandanna, a sleeveless and short orange tunic with a black collar, black bike shorts, black socks and red and white sneakers. She also carried a green waist-pack. The phone ran and Ash answered it. "Hello?" asked Ash. "Bahnjour, Ahsh," said Fifi. "Hello Fifi. How are you doing?" asked Ash. Pikachu's eyes widened when he heard that name. "I'm doing fine. Ahlthough, us toons ahre een a peeckle," said Fifi. "What do you mean?" asked Ash. "Pika?" asked Pikachu. "You see, zese teeny ahliens cahme to Looney Tunes Lahnd, wahnteeng to mahke us zeir slahves fahr zeir faileeng ahmusement pahrk, Mahron Mountain. So we chahllenged zem to a bahsketbahll gahme to tahke ahdvahntage of zeir smahll size. but sahmehow, zey've grown geegahnteec. So, we recruited a prahfessionahl bahsketbahll playair to help shahpe us up. So how ahre you doing een your Seennahh trahvels?" asked Fifi.

"Well, both my current traveling companion, Dawn and May participated in a Pokémon Contest tournament called the Wallace Cup, named after a famous coordinator," said Ash. "Who wahn?" asked Fifi. "Dawn. She was experiencing a losing streak in contests where she never made it past the appeal round twice. But she finally managed to end her losing streak by winning this tournament," said Ash. "Zat's good. Tahnight ees ze beeg gahme. so een a few mahments, Sheerley ees going to telepahrt you a special remahte zat'll ahllow you to see ze gahme on a TV," said Fifi. "Can you ask her to teleport one to Max too cause he's not with me right now," said May. "Sure," said Fifi. "Play your best, Fifi and send those aliens back to Moron Mountain!" said Pikachu. "Heareeng zat frahm you, Peekahchu, gives me hahpe ahnd cahnfidence. Au revoir," said Fifi. And she hung up the phone. After the phone call ended, the special remote was teleported to where they were. "I wonder how this professional basketball player they recruited is?" asked Ash.
