The night was peaceful once more as Crusher drove up to his father's room. Xander had encouraged him to drive up for a night flight so they could bond. He knocked on the door.
"Um... father...?"
"...come in,"
Crusher took a deep breath and drove into the room to find his father prepping his dark cape. Beejay turned to him.
"Is there something you want?"
"Yes..." Crusher nodded. "I was wondering... can we... go on a night flight together...?"
Beejay dropped his cape. "What?"
Crusher gulped as he sighed. "I... I want to get to know you, father, I... I'm sorry with what I said last night..."
"..." Beejay sighed before smiling. "I... I know you didn't mean it,"
"Really...?"
"Yes," Beejay turned and drove forward. "You... You were mad, and I suppose your anger was understandable," He then sighed. "I... I am an awful father, after all..."
"But... you saved me from Mika earlier, didn't you...?"
Beejay stiffened. "How... How did you know?"
"Xander told me."
Beejay's tense eased as he smiled. "Of course he did,"
"So... can we go on that night flight?" Crusher wondered.
"Of course we can. Why don't we go right now?"
Crusher lit up and nodded. The father and son quickly turned into bats before flying off on their night flight. As they flew off to leave, Ara flew in her bat form before transforming back into her vampire form with a smirk.
"There they are... time to put my plan into work."
She zoomed through the hall, quick and swift. She watched as the duo fly higher and higher, giving her time to head to the garden. There, she found Xander picking fruit from the garden. She snuck up from behind him before raising the stake.
Xander felt someone creep up from behind him. He turned and yelped to see who it was. "Ara?!?"
"This is what you get for getting my sister BANISHED!" Ara laughed before lowering the stake, hitting Xander's wings.
"AGH!!!" Xander fell with a hiss, blood dripping down his wings. "What are you even trying to achieve here?!"
"You'll see," Ara took out another knife, one with the letter 'B' engraved in it. "That father and son would NEVER get along if they thing Beejay tried to kill you!"
"You're PSYCHOTIC!"
"I know," Ara chuckled and turned to see the father and son approach them. "Oh, and it seems they heard your scream! Good luck!"
And with that, she zipped off.
Meanwhile, Crusher and Beejay both gasped as they found Xander on the ground, bleeding.
"Xander!" Crusher exclaimed, rushing to his side. "What-- what happened?!"
Then, his eyes trailed down to the knife in the grass. He picked it up, and Beejay's eyes widened.
"That's... That's my knife..." he murmured before shaking his head. "But I didn't do this! I was with you the whole time!"
"Then... how did it get here...?"
"A-Ara..." Xander was spitting out blood as he hissed.
"Ara? Who's that?" Crusher asked.
"Mika's sister." Beejay snarled as he picked up Xander. "Come on, we need to get him to the vampire healer!"
"There's such a thing?"
"Yes, now come on!"
They raced off, out of the palace and towards the other side of Transylvania. They were deep in the woods where they found a vampire at a healer's hut, wearing all black and red.
"Errika! Errika!"
"Your majesty?" the vampire turned around. "What happened? Why is XANDER BLEEDING?!"
"Some vampire named Ara did this," Crusher explained. "Can you heal his wings?"
"Of course," Errika nodded. "Come, take him inside and let him lay on the bed,"
They did as she spoke, setting Xander down on the bed. Xander coughed out in pain.
"You're gonna be okay, Xander..." Crusher said, drinking some blood from a packet so he didn't have to drink Xander's.
Beejay hissed, not knowing as he watched his friend bleed. The scent of blood reached him, but he knew he had to withdraw himself from sucking up his blood.
"Here," Crusher handed his father a blood packet. "Drink blood from this."
"Th-Thank you," Beejay took the blood packet and began to drink.
"Your majesty, I need a word with you," Errika called for Beejay, and the two left, leaving Xander and Crusher alone.
"Oh, Xander..." Crusher hissed. "Are you... Are you okay...?"
"Yes... and no," Xander chuckled. "Did you and Beejay have a good time on your flight...?"
"Yeah..." Crusher smiled a little. "I... I really didn't think he would wanna spend time with me, but... he did. I guess you and my friends were right. I just needed to give him a chance."
"See... I was right..." Xander chuckled. "Ara... Ara tried to frame your father into hurting me, you know..."
"I know he would never-- you're his best friend. And... am I hinting some kind of romantic stuff going on with you two?"
"A-AH! No...!" Xander's face reddened. "At least... I don't know... he... he doesn't say anything about that..."
"Well... why don't you ask him when he comes back?"
"Crusher... I'm not lasting long..." Xander sighed, feeling his wings weaken.
"W-W-W-What?! But Errika said she could heal you!"
"You… You'll see what I mean…" Xander hissed as his wings began to pale. "I'm… I'm immortal, but… but I'm still alive… please, Crusher… this wound… the stake Ara used isn't a normal one…"
"What do you mean? What's going on?"
"It was… an… an enchanted stake… used to weaken immortals like me…" Xander gasped for breath, and Crusher could see his eyes paling.
"Nonononono!!! FATHER!!! ERRIKA!!! SOMEONE. HELP HIM, PLEASE!!"
Both ran out in shock. Errika glanced down and shook her head, turning to Beejay.
"There's only one way, your majesty, you know what to do,"
"Right," Beejay nodded and held Xander, carrying him. "Don't worry, I've got you. You'll live," He then turned to Crusher. "Stay here, I'll be out as soon as I'm done,"
With that, he carried Xander further into the hut.
"But... w-what are you gonna do?" Crusher asked, following after him. "Maybe I can help!"
"When you are older, young prince, but for now, your father is the only one who knows how to help," Errika gave a bow as she explained.
"But... can I at least go with you? What are you gonna do?"
"Something… you would need to learn, but you mustn't scream," Beejay sighed, laying Xander down.
Crusher nodded.
Beejay took a deep breath and opened his mouth, his teeth bared and fangs sharp. He neared the blood and began to take in the blood. Just as Crusher was horrified and planned to scream, Errika held him back and told him to watch.
So Crusher watched, and to his shock, a black fluid from his father's fangs entered Xander through the injury as the blood was cleared. At the end of it all, Xander was pale but the bleeding and injury was healed.
"Whoa... what was that?" Crusher asked.
"The injury was too much," Errika explained. "The only way to stop it and heal Xander was to… turn him into a vampire as well,"
"R-Really...? Will Xander still be... you know... the same as he was?"
"Yes, yes, he will still be the same Xander you know… just… undead," Errika nodded.
"F-Father...?" Crusher approached his dad uneasily. "You don't... blame me for what happened to Xander... do you?"
"No… No, no, of course not," Beejay shook his head as he held his head, blood dripping from his fangs. "Do… you blame me for what happened?"
"No, never. It was Ara who tried to get me to frame you for what happened."
"I should have known..." Beejay growled.
"Will... Xander wake up soon?" Crusher asked Errika.
"In three days," Errika spoke with a bow. "That is how a long a vampire's transformation works. He needs to be kept buried underground as well, no sunlight, no food, no nothing until he wakes up,"
"Oh..."
"We should let him rest, my son," Beejay said. "Come, let us head back to the palace."
X
"What?!" Ara snarled as she watched the father and son make their way back in peace and no arguments.
"Your plan didn't go AS planned?" Mika laughed.
"Shut up!" Ara smacked her. "On the bright side, Xander is dead, and we're free to attack any time soon,"
"Right." Mika sighed. "But any plan to kill that pesky hybrid yet?"
"No… not yet…" Ara hissed. "but when we get there, we will find a way! For now, I'm starving!"
"Me too," Mika sighed before he noticed Blaze and AJ driving out of the garden in attempt to check on Xander or Crusher.
"Where are they...?" AJ wondered.
"They've gotta be around here somewhere," Blaze assured him.
"Ooh!" Mika licked her lips. "I see mortals! Shall we, sister?"
"We shall!"
With that, the two sisters dove in, fangs baring as they prepared to attack the duo.
"WHOA!!" Blaze pulled AJ out of the way just in time.
"Uh oh... vampires! And not the friendly kind!" AJ gulped. "What do we do?!"
As Blaze struggled to think of a plan, Beejay and Crusher returned to the palace, but Crusher gasped as he saw his friends being attacked.
"Oh no! Father, those are my friends!" Crusher screeched in panic. "We have to save them!"
"You're friends are here?! Why am I barely surprised anymore?" Beejay sighed and nodded. "Come on, time to banish these sisters for good this time."
Crusher nodded, racing forward and kicking Mika away. "HEY!!! LEAVE THEM ALONE!!"
"Crusher, you're here!" Blaze sighed in relief.
"Yep-- and I brought help!" Crusher smiled, bringing his father with him.
"Oh man... I know we were supposed to stay in hiding from you, your highness, but I've never been so glad to see you in my life!" AJ sighed.
"Yes… it seems Crusher both have some explaining to do, but for now, let's just be rid of some pests." Beejay glared daggers at the sisters.
"Can I help you?" Crusher smiled.
"NO!" Ara snarled. "How dare you stop us?!"
"We dare!" Crusher snarled. "THIS is for hurting Xander, trying to frame my father, and trying to hurt... my... FRIENDS!!!"
He then let out a roar, a roar of a thousand screeches as bats flew all over in fright. Blaze and AJ were shocked while Beejay looked impressed as the sisters fell to the ground, kneeling down.
"W-W-We're sorry, young prince-- please don't hurt us!"
"Oh, I won't... IF you leave Transylvania, and never come back," Crusher sneered, showing his fangs. "And if you do, even if you're not mortal, I won't HESITATE to drink YOUR blood."
"Sister, let's go!" Mika pulled on her sister.
"Fine…" Ara's eyes gleamed red in rage but she and her sister flew away anyway to keep safe.
"Blaze, AJ!"
The others burst from the dungeons and ran to check on their friends, but screeched to a halt when they saw the king.
"Y-Your majesty!" Yza was the first to squeak out as the fillies and foals bowed in fear.
"Father, don't hurt them," Crusher said. "Please... t-them being here with me was all my idea."
"Crusher, don't!" Pickle begged in a whisper. "He could banish you forever!"
"No, Pickle... you guys had nothing to do with any of this. You just wanted to help me," Crusher said before turning to his father. "When I first came to Transylvania to find you, I had no idea of my legacy. I just wanted my vampire side gone so that way I could live normally and not hurt my friends, who are... more than my friends. They're... like family. But now that I've learned so much here, I don't wanna make my vampire side go away. I found you, and... having a parent in life is all I ever wanted. So, don't blame Blaze, or AJ, or the others, or the pegasus and unicorn fillies. They did nothing wrong. I-It was all me, and I'm... I'm sorry."
Beejay stayed silent for a moment. After a while, he sighed.
"I admit… when I first saw you, I recognized your lightning marks," he spoke. "They were like your mother's before she died. When I… When I lost everything was lost as well," He glanced down at the fillies and foals and sighed. "You know, there's a reason why I kept them. I took them in a few days after you were born, hoping they would keep you company as you grew. But when I lost everything, I… I thought of them useless… thinking they could only be useful as slaves, so I kept them young, young and miserable," He glanced at his son. "But now… I can see how much I've messed up. Whatever you did to help them, I can't blame you, no, I couldn't. You were doing that to protect them… these… friends of yours,"
He turned back to the fillies and foals. He picked the nearest, which was Camille, up, examining his wings. "It was a wonder you foals and fillies survived my abuse. I… I hope you can give me a second chance to make things up to you all,"
"Well... I think so," said Prism, nuzzling her pink mane into his tire.
Beejay chuckled and patted her head. "I promise that I will make it up to you all. How about you all head inside the palace to rest? Not the dungeons but the actual rooms this time,"
"Really?" Ashley said, fluttering her wings excitedly.
"Really. Each of you can bunk with one of your friends in each room."
"Yay!" Blake beamed. "Thank you, thank you, you're majesty!"
"You're very welcome," Beejay smiled.
"Uhh, your majesty?" Starla drove forward with the rest of them. "May we ask a question?"
"Of course."
"Where is Xander? We thought he'd be out here," Watts asked.
"Mika's sister Ara attacked him with an enchanted stake," Crusher sighed. "To save him, Father had to put him under a three-day transformation into a vampire."
"So… Xander going to be vampire?" Zeg asked.
"Yep, but he'll still be the same Xander he always was," Crusher nodded.
"That's good to know," Blaze smiled.
"Maybe when he's a vampire, he can have the strength to… ask a certain a someone out," Starla murmured, which Stripes and Darington chuckled to.
"What was that?" Beejay asked.
"Uh... nothing!" Starla gulped. "So, which little one are y'all gonna take?"
"I'll have Quizon, Yza and Blake with me and AJ," Blaze offered.
"I'll have Ashley, Camille and Prism with me and Gabby," Watts cried.
"Yay!" Ashley squealed.
"I'll have Scarlet with me!" Starla claimed.
"I'll have Moondust!" Darington said.
"Zeg take Isis!" Zeg grinned.
"And I'll get Skydance!" Stripes spoke.
"Alright, now that everyone knows where to settle, let us head inside," Beejay told them. "It's still late night, so I bet you are all tired,"
"Yes, sire," Blaze smiled. "But... that does remind me of something. What if Mika and Ara come and try to get us during the night?"
"They won't, right…?" Crusher turned to his father. "I mean, the threat was pretty clear,"
"Even then, you and I need to keep the place and your friends safe," Beejay told him.
"How?"
"Come, I'll show you how to make a force field around the castle," Beejay offered. "I could do it alone, but the power of two vampire royals is stronger,"
"Got it!"
Beejay smiled and allowed hie devilish wings to sprout from behind his back. He started to fly as he glanced down at Crusher.
"Follow me, son,"
"Uh... okay, I'll try..."
Crusher released his own wings before taking off after his father. The were soon above the castle. Beejay swirled his tires together, red magic prompting to come out.
"Just do as I do," he instructed.
"Uh... okay..."
He did his best to mimic the other, twirling his tires as lightning blue magic appeared from his tires. Together, the father and son managed to cast the spell, creating a burst of magic that swirled around the castle.
"Wow... I didn't know vampires could cast magic spells!" Stripes exclaimed.
"It takes practice, but when we're defenseless, we need to know other magic that just our own," Beejay explained as he and Crusher flew back down.
"And I wish I could fly like that!" Ashley said, trying to fly, but fell right on her face. "We pegasi are still learning."
."I'm sure Dad doesn't mind teaching," Crusher glanced at Beejay, who smiled.
"Of course, I don't mind,"
"But... I'm tired..." Yza yawned.
"Come on, guys-- this way to sleeptown." Blaze urged, leading the fillies and foals to the palace.
As they headed inside, Beejay stared out into the moon before sighing.
"Three days..." he murmured to himself. "He'll be fine in three days..."
Crusher frowned. "Dad... are you worried about Xander?"
"Indeed I am..." Beejay sighed. "Even when I was shutting him out, I could always still feel his presence in the forest... but now... I can't feel him at all..."
"Maybe we should to check on him?"
"No... it's almost morning," Beejay sighed. "We wouldn't make it back in time,"
"Oh..." Crusher thought for a moment. "Maybe tomorrow then?"
"Good idea."
With that, the father and son went inside the palace to join their friends.
