ASOIAF-universe Pairings: (With an explanation for supporting Jon/Arya)

I used to have a huge explanation here with examples from canon as supporting evidence for a pairing between Jon Snow and Arya Stark. I decided to delete the sea of words and simply just leave one quote from A Dance with Dragons:

"It had been so long since he had last seen Arya. What would she look like now? Would he even know her? Arya Underfoot. Her face was always dirty. Would she still have that little sword he’d had Mikken forge for her? Stick them with the pointy end, he’d told her...Bring her home, Mance. I saved your son from Melisandre, and now I am about to save four thousand of your free folk. You owe me this one little girl."

In the aforementioned passage, Jon is referring to Mance's mission to rescue Arya from Ramsay Bolton at Winterfell. Last time I checked, Winterfell IS home to all the Starks, even to Jon. Mance is supposed to kidnap her from Winterfell, yet Jon thinks home for Arya is with him.

Harry Potter-universe Pairings: (With an explanation)

[Tom Riddle/Ginny Weasley]

I enjoy reading almost every un-thinkable pairing in this fandom, but the ones that I cannot help but actively seek out involve the central characters Ginevra Weasley and Tom Marvolo Riddle. I could write an entire essay on how EVERYONE should be intrigued by these two, and I could probably churn out another if need be. There's a line in CoS where Tom Riddle tells Harry:

"So Ginny poured her soul out to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted…I grew stronger on a diet of her deepest fears, her darkest secrets. I grew powerful, far more powerful than little Miss Weasely. Powerful enough to start feeding Miss Weasely a few of my secrets, to start pouring a little of my soul back into her

How can a passage so irresistible as this never be invoked in the later books? Though the Horcrux!Diary was destroyed, we've been told throughout the series by Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape (PM me for the exact page and quotes!) that DARK MAGIC LEAVES TRACES even when banished. All evidence points to the assumption that Ginny Weasley has some DARKNESS in her after the Chamber of Secrets. Furthermore, she's the FIRST Weasley girl to be born within the line in generations, which is also a thoroughly pureblood line before Ron married Hermione. As much as I adore J.K. Rowling (I really do!) I can't help but feel there was no dearth of plotholes that were never addressed or corrected in the series. Ginny, even though she's not my favorite character (Hermione is, actually), got the short end of the stick in terms of character development, especially since she ended up as the MAIN PROTAGONIST'S WIFE. Is it plausible for her to transform so quickly from an 11 year old girl whose best friend betrayed her, possessed her, and devoured her soul into an out-spoken, loyally faithful and positively charming young woman? What happened between, during the transition? Why is her character arc so unbelievable? THIS is why I love this particular pairing-- there's so much to explore with them. Additionally, the HP universe if very black-and-white with respect to characters. There is only "good" and "evil" while hardly any grey is explored perhaps minus Draco Malfoy. It always bugged me that Ginny Weasley was such paramount character in terms of the STORY but completely abandoned in terms of DEVELOPMENT. Is it possible she's NOT thoroughly "good", that there may be some moral ambiguity with her? What if, after Ginny's interaction with a Horcrux, the darkest of all Dark magic, her innocence and soul was forever marred and impaired? Is it possible that Tom Riddle helped shape Ginny Weasley into a GREY character? I bet you can tell how I obsessed I am with this ship.

HARRY POTTER UNIVERSE: This is the story that got me started writing my own fics. This was the catalyst I had come across about 4 years ago. It's beautiful from it's first word to it's last. I tend to read all kind of fics regardless of the pairings, but this story was one that actually made me fall in love not with the ship, but with BOTH of the characters simultaneously. It's seamlessly written and almost flawless.
