Third Person POV
The Cullen household was abuzz with activity. Carlisle had arrived from work about an hour previously and instantly began to pace about the house. Moving from the Livingroom, to his office, and back. Alice and Jasper were sitting on the couch. Jasper was trying to minimize the tension that was escalating in the house by the moment and Alice entertaining a confused Bella who snuck out of the house on the presence the something important was happening. Rosalie and Emmett were in the dining room area playing cards, Rosalie seemingly emotionally stressed which worried both the human and her mate. The only calm one in the home seemed to be the family matriarch who was busy making a small meal for the human, seemingly not paying mind to the other activity. However, there was a notable vampire absent in the house which caused the human girl and the family patriarch much alarm.
"Where is he?" Bella tried to whisper to Alice, confused by the atmosphere and tensions in the room. However, her statement did not go unnoticed as Carlisle seemed to materialize in the room. Failing to act casual as he walked around the room and wandering into the kitchen.
"He'll be back soon. I imagine he just got held up," Alice stated and tried to get Bella to engage in a game of Chess.
"With what though?" Bella asked, playing against her best friend mindlessly but her worry not being abated. Bella thoughts regarding Edward only seemed to intensify since saving him in Italy and the family's return. She was planning on having him bring her here soon so that they can vote on if they would accept her into the family and turn her into a vampire. Bella was willing to have Aro or one of the guards do it should the Cullen's refuse her, but she was not willing to let Edward go again. The Cullen's thoughts be damned. The only thing that gave her pause was Jacob. A part of her had grown attached to him and she knew that he would not accept Edward or her choice. However, she was unsure if she was able to let him go either. 'But how can I keep both of them?'
"Someone has come," Alice said simple continuing the game. Bella couldn't say that she liked that statement. There was something about someone else occupying Edward's time and attention that did not sit well with her which caused Jasper's eyebrow to raise. However, the sound of a car engine coming up the drive stalled the train of thought and caused everyone to turn their attention to the front door. It wasn't long before the door casually opened and Edward and Eliza walked in, still arm-an-arm as they were when they left the hospital, and the crowd seemed to stop them in their tracks. Edward, more at ease than his sister, seemed to brush off her hesitance and lead them further into the room. His eye noticed Bella present but did not immediately greet her, much to her announce as she sized up the woman on his arm. Instead, Rosalie and Emmett seemed to materialize next to them and Rosalie threw her arms around the woman caused Edward and Emmett to chuckle.
"Za, you remember Rosalie," Edward stated, and he watched the two women embrace. Carlisle and Esme seemed to both hide a small chuckle at the, clearly, childhood nickname Edward had for his sister.
"Of course, I do. Hello Rosie," Eliza stated when she and Rosalie finally released each other, and Eliza kissed each of her cheeks. Another old-fashioned greeting that seemed out of place. "Thank you for telling me Rose." Eliza added quietly.
"Of course," Rosalie answered before smiling and leading her friend over to Emmett who was still confused but excited to meet the newcomer who his wife seemed to like. "Eliza, this is my husband Emmett."
"Ah, so this is the famous Emmett I heard so much about from your letters," Eliza answered warmly with a quiet chuckle within her voice.
"You wrote about me Rose?" Emmett asked warmly. He always did enjoy when his angel payed attention to him.
"Of course, you were her favorite thing to talk about. It was why I was surprised I did not meet you when she last visited. Based on what I have read, you would have had a very good time," She answered teasingly but neither I nor Edward missed the most important part of that sentence.
"Wait a minute. You visited her?" Edward asked angerly. "You knew where she was, all this time, and you didn't tell me?"
"Eddie, it is not Rose's fault. I also recall writing you a letter not long ago, after Rosie told me about the girl, it had my return address on it. You knew where I was, you chose to ignore it. Don't blame Rose for your choices," Eliza retorted.
"Letter? I didn't get a letter. When did you send it?" Edward asked his sister harshly and the sound of a growl emanated from the back of the room where Carlisle stood. Bella was beyond confused with the exchanged but could not say she was enjoying it. Especially that this woman seemed to get into Rosalie's good graces while the vampire hated her.
"A while ago. Maybe a year or so. It was after I got one of Rose's letters. Something about a party, I think. I would need to look."
"We weren't here anymore," Alice jumped in a curiously happy tone. "We left not long after. It might still be there. I'm Alice by the way! It is nice to meet you Eliza. Welcome back to the family!" Alice quickly hugged the girl and pulled her over to Jasper. "This is my husband Jasper."
"Hello," She answered softly, and Jasper nodded in greeting and they slowly made their way over to Carlisle and Esme, who had left the kitchen and put a comforting hand on his arm when he growled. Clearly trying to release anxiety.
"And, of course, you remember Carlisle," Alice continued, and Eliza's gaze glanced at him and Carlisle was struck again by the different shade of her eyes. However, he imagines his own eyes were black at this point. He was beyond frustrated when Edward stole her from the hospital earlier in the evening, even more so when he had to hear Dr. Jones try and question him about her when he finished his shift, and it only increased when they were not at the house when he arrived. Carlisle wanted more than anything to shoo everyone else from the house and talk to her alone. However, he was rational enough to know that that was probably never going to happen and instead decided to stew in his frustration. "And this is Esme," Alice added, purposely omitting their pervious relationship. However, she did not share her idea with her human friend, who was noticing the odd tension between the three.
"His mate," Bella added quietly but caused all the vampire in the room eyes to train on her and caused her to shrink some. Esme was the only one who gave her a smile apologetic smile while the rest sent glares, particularly Edward.
"Bella!" Edward and Esme scolded, and Eliza turned her focus to her and smile.
"Ah, so you are Bella. I have been hearing so much about you. It is nice to finally put a face to the name," Eliza said with smile and trying to forget the girl's pervious statement. However, Bella was clearly startled by the other vampire's reactions and was clearly on the defensive.
"Yeah, well, I wish I could say the same for you," Bella answered tersely.
"I am not surprised you haven't heard of me," Eliza said kindly and walked up to the mortal girl and offered her hand to shake but Bella did not move to take it. "My name is Eliza. Eliza Masen. It is nice to finally meet the girl my brother has been all bothered about."
"Brother?" Bella asked hesitantly and looked at Edward who walked over with a slightly ashamed expression.
"Bella, this is my sister. My actual sister Eliza. She was turned around the same time as me. She's… been away for a while," Edward told her as his sister retracted her hand. It was clear the Bella was not going to take it.
"And where has she been and why have you never said anything about her?"
"Bella, that is very rude," Alice stated moving over to Eliza and slipping her arm in hers. "You make it seem like she is not welcome. And that is far from the case. Isn't that right Carlisle?"
"No, it is alright. I imagine my presence is quiet the shock especially without any advanced notice. It is impolite," Eliza stated beginning to back up as if to make a retreat from the house but was stopped by Rosalie. It looked as if Esme would have also done the same, but she seemed to fear that is she removed her hand from Carlisle arm that he would have attacked the girl.
"Nonsense. The human just can't mind her own business," Rosalie stated which caused Alice and Edward to glare at her.
"Rosalie!" Alice gasped and Edward growled. He was torn between defending his sister and sticking up for his girlfriend.
"What? It's true," Rosalie countered. Both vampires releasing Eliza and turning to face each other, and Eliza continued a slight retreated. Clearly even more uncomfortable with how the events of the evening were becoming.
"Enough!" The sound of Carlisle's voice echoed in the room. He did not yell but his voice echoed the authority of the coven leader that caused everyone else in the room to still and Bella became nervous.
"Edward, I think it is time Bella went home," Esme added softly, and Edward began to lead Bella to the door.
"Wait, I don't want to go. I wanted to talk to everyone about-"
"Another time dear," Esme cut her off with a smile the sound of Edward's car starting and leaving echoed throughout the house of still vampires. However, the house seemed to jump in surprise when Esme was the one to break the stillness and embraced Eliza in a welcoming hug that was hesitantly returned. "It is nice to know Edward has more family. It is nice to meet you."
"It is nice to meet you as well Esme," Eliza answered softly and gave the woman a smile. "I do apologize for all the trouble. I promise, I won't be here long."
Before Esme could formulate a response, Jasper's voice cut through the silence. "I think it perhaps time that the rest of us go on a hunt. It was nice to meet you Eliza," He stated and swooped in and lead Esme away and they, along with Alice, Rosalie, and Emmett made there way out the dining room window. Leaving Eliza and Carlisle alone in the house.
'And then there were two,' Carlisle's beast thought as it mulled over Eliza's last statement. Throughout the encounter he was able to turn the tables on the poor doctor and was out of his cage. 'Like hell will I let that happen.'
