I write because I enjoy it, and I write fanfiction because it allows me to write without having to create my own characters or worlds, and further explore the fandom worlds I love.

I like fanfiction because I think it's one of the most interesting ways that we keep stories and fictional worlds alive, and they really show that a fiction (whether it's a book, a television show, a video game, or whatever) is defined so much more by its audience, and its audience's reaction and interaction with it, than by its author/writer/editor/producer/director/production company.

That said, I'm torn about "fixes" for fandoms. I know that we like to escape into fiction, but in fiction, just like in life, bad things happen; bad things that we can't change. And everybody knows that everybody dies.

Doctor Who

River Song is a total BAMF. River/Eleven is my OTP.
Martha Jones is utterly brilliant, and she's completely underrated as a companion, but I don't ship her with the Doctor. And I don't ship her with Mickey, either; just because they're both black and were overshadowed by Rose/the Doctor doesn't mean they have to end up together.
The Donna/Ten friendship is just beautiful.
Captain Jack Harkness is an damn fine.
Rory Williams is the best of humanity, and I have mixed feelings about his wife...I kinda feel like they screwed up her character by trying to preserve her younger character, but also create sexual tension with the Doctor.
Rose Tyler is a silly cow and I do not ship her with the Doctor...ever. NEVER EVER.

Harry Potter
THE GREATEST CHILDREN'S BOOK SERIES OF ALL TIME
Hermione Granger is undoubtedly the most brilliant female character in anything, ever.
Hermione settled for Ron. She needs someone who can match her intellect, and who can challenge her; Ron doesn't do that.
Severus Snape is the Prince of LIFE, but it was losing Lily that made him such a good person. Snily can't be a thing.
Harry shouldn't have ended up with Ginny; he fell for her completely out of nowhere, after she was pining over him for years. It's like he couldn't have Cho and settled just because Ginny was there. Also, Ginny turned into a pushover. Seriously, you let all the kids be named after HIS parents first? Grow a backbone, woman.
Drapple. Enough said.
Dramione would never work, but I like reading it anyway.
The Malfoys turned out okay in the end; admittedly, in the end, they sat on the fence, but a full 180 would be too much to ask.
Harry Potter trumps Twilight a million times, in every aspect, always, to the end of the universe and back (or, it would, if the universe had an edge, which it doesn't)

I reckon it's okay to write/read RPF, as long as the person has said that they're cool with it (or hasn't said they aren't), but it becomes dangerous when people actually expect real people's lives, and relationships, to be the way they're written in fanfiction/slashfiction/RPF.
