Emily Frost awoke with a start. Violet was standing over her and gently shaking her. She was looking down at her with a smile in her eyes, amused by the amount of time that Emily spent asleep. Emily rolled her eyes at her as her senses returned to her. Wind was still blowing past them very fast, so they must still be on the train going to Hogwarts. But she noticed that the speed of the wind seemed to be slowing, so they must be approaching their destination.
"Are we close?" She asked. She had decided to take a nap for the train ride instead of sitting around the compartment doing a whole lot of nothing. After the scene with Abby, they had decided to stay in one place until they could get a better idea of how people were going to react to them.
Emily didn't know quite what to think about the situation with Abby. Whenever she interacted with her, she was perfectly kind and likeable. But as soon as she interacted with Violet, her attitude spoiled and she got an angry expression on her face. Curiously, the air around her would start to heat up from her rage, which was something that Emily had not experienced with any other witches. Maybe Abby was unique in that way.
And it was ridiculous that she should get as mad as she got with Violet. Who cared about what Violet's family had done in the past. It wasn't like Violet even knew what her last name was before that letter had come anyways. She wasn't like Emily, who had known her parents once. Violet had always been nameless. Even the name Violet was created by herself. She grew up without the expectations of parents and succeeded despite that. Violet was the kindest and most caring person that Emily had ever known. In Emily's mind, she was a shoe-in for the Hufflepuff house that she had heard so much about.
Even that morning, when Emily had been unable to contain her excitement, Violet had helped Madam Burgess make breakfast for all the other kids. She was just like that.
So the image that Abby had of her in her mind made Emily very mad. How dare she judge Violet before even getting to know her. What right did she have to judge someone based on what their family was?
Learning that Violet had come from a family of wizards had been quite a shock to the two of them. Violet had never really cared about finding out who her parents were, unlike some of the others at the orphanage. She had already had a found family with the other kids and Burgess that it wasn't necessary for her.
"Stop stewing on Abby," Violet chided, somehow reading the conflicted expression that Emily had. "Thinking about it harder isn't going to change anything. Just let her think whatever she wants to think."
"But its ridiculous!" Emily protested stubbornly.
"Well, some people are just ridiculous," Violet said. "Just let some people be ridiculous. If there weren't ridiculous people in the world, everything would be pretty boring. You know, you sleep a ridiculous amount."
Emily smiled. "And it's ridiculous how much you try to mother people."
"Well excuse me for keeping you from getting yourself killed!"
"Well excuse me for being a growing girl that needs her sleep!"
Both of them started laughing at their silliness. Violet flopped down on top of Emily and started furiously tickling her until Emily begged for her to stop.
"Now come on," Violet said. "Since you were a sleepy beauty, you didn't hear the announcement that we're almost there."
"I know," Emily said. "I felt the wind slowing down."
That was a curious difference between the magic of Emily and Violet. Emily's magic almost always manifested itself through control of wind. All of the things that she could do were mainly built around having preternatural control of the wind around her. She used the wind to make herself float into the air. She used the wind to create clouds that would strike down lightning, she used the wind to make it warmer and colder. But Violet was very different. She could move things like Emily could, but it wasn't through wind. It was like she was doing it with her mind. When Violet did things, there weren't large gusts of wind, there was just what she wanted to do happening.
It led to Violet being able to do things that Emily couldn't do and vice versa. Violet could turn invisible. Emily could make explosions out of air. Violet could make things bigger or smaller. Emily could float in the air without any effort. Violet could make one thing magically turn into another thing. Emily could change the weather. It made things very fun when they started to fight each other with everything that they could do.
Violet pulled her up and out of the compartment. There was a large crowd of people working on exiting the train. Emily bumped into several people with quiet apologies as Violet pulled her through. Soon, they found themselves on the platform outside. Around them, Emily could see lights in houses that made up a small village. It looked real quaint, and Emily remembered that there were way less wizards than there were muggles.
All the students were flowing towards where a series of carriages were situated. But there was also a very large man shouting out "Firs' years!" so Emily let Violet drag her over to the big man. The man led them off in a different direction than the other students.
They went through a moderately dense forest where they had to climb over some roots and jump over a fallen tree or two. Violet had stopped to help some of the people that had fallen down much to the chagrin of Emily. Soon they found themselves on the edge of a lake with a fleet of small wooden boats that could seat four. Emily and Violet sat down with a black haired boy and brown haired girl that were in a deep conversation about a magical topic that Emily couldn't make heads or tails of.
With a loud command from the tall man, the boats all lurched forward in unison. Emily looked around as the boats inexplicably followed the boat the tall man sat in.
And then she saw the castle.
It was utterly and completely magnificent. Tall towers that rose high into the night sky with intricate architecture. Large arches and bridges that connected the thousand year old stone halls. Warm lights flowing out of every window. It was a dream made reality. It was straight from a movie, completely surreal.
Emily heard a commotion coming from another boat. It was a boat of four boys and they were heavily rocking the boat. Three of them were rocking the boat while the fourth one looked like he was going to fall down. And when one of the boys pushed him, the boy fell right into the water. Emily stood with a shock that someone had fallen into the water. She looked around wildly and saw that the man had not noticed that someone had fallen in. The other boys were laughing uproariously and no one else was moving to help the boy.
With only a split second to think about it, she dove straight into the water. She wasn't the best swimmer in the world, but she was close to the boy and her body had moved before her mind had even caught up with her to stop her. She only heard Violet yell "Emily!" before she landed right into the water. She couldn't see anything under the water, and the feeling of the wind around her was muted, but she could feel the boy rapidly blowing out air. She swam quickly underwater to where the boy was and pulled him up to the surface.
She floated the two of them up to the closest boat and dropped them both soaked onto the bottom of the boat. And she laughed.
She laughed and laughed and laughed. She couldn't stop the laughter from coming out of her. It was just too amazing. Here she was, going to a magical castle to learn everything that she could learn about magic, and on her first night she was already living to the fullest. Saving damsels from a wet fate. What's the male version of damsels anyways?
The other people on the boat were staring at her in shock and the boy she had saved was still trying to catch his breath. Emily sat up and crossed her legs primly.
"Hey everyone!" Emily greeted warmly. "My name's Emily, what's your guys'?"
The others were staring at her in shock until one of the girls started laughing loudly. "Did you just jump into the lake? That's awesome!"
Emily just smiled in response.
"My name's Amy!" the girl responded. "That was awesome! How did you get out of the lake so easily?"
"I flew out."
"You can fly too?" The girl looked at her in awe. "Are you a god?"
Emily laughed at that. "No, I'm not god. Just a normal witch like you."
"None of that was normal," another boy looked at her skeptically. "My name's Terry Twycross, and I've never seen someone fly without a broom before. Are you sure that's what you did?"
"Yup!"
The boy that she had saved looked at her in awe. "Thank you, I didn't think that I was going to make it. I don't know how to swim."
"Haha, you were probably fine," Emily answered easily. "I'm sure you would have been saved somehow. You can't die at magic school, that's just crazy."
The boy nodded as if that was something very wise, which it was in Emily's mind. "Thank you anyway. My name is Aleck."
"Is that with a c or a k?" Amy asked.
"Both"
"Is that a squid?!" Emily screamed suddenly. The people on the boat turned to look out into the lake. There was a ginormous squid that was moving past on the surface, with some of its tentacles waving around in the air.
"Yeah," Terry said. "That's the giant squid. He's been in the Black Lake for as long as anyone can remember."
"Are your parents wizards too?" Emily asked.
"Yeah, I'm a pureblood."
"A what?"
"A pureblood."
"What's that?"
"Someone whose parents are magical."
"Well that's a silly name then," Emily teased. "Why don't they call it something cool like...I don't know...starborns."
"Star...born?" Terry asked skeptically. He was looking at her like she had completely lost it.
"Hey are we getting close?" Emily said, changing the topic unintentionally. They were, in fact, getting close. The boats were coming to a stop at the docks. The tall man was getting out of the boats and helping various students out of the boats.
Dripping water, Emily stumbled out of the boat. She helped Aleck up, who was a little less content with having been soaked to the bone. But that didn't keep her down and a smile was splitting her face in two. Violet sidled up to her and poked her roughly in her side.
"Hey, idiot," she said. "How about I push you back in? I don't think you've put yourself in enough danger today."
Emily looked at her seriously. "I can go back in if you need me to." she said with complete seriousness.
"Who's this?" Amy asked.
"Oh, this is my sister Violet," Emily introduced. "Violet, this is Terry, Amy, and Aleck."
"I take it Aleck is the one who fell into the water," Violet said deadpanned. Aleck was indeed the boy and was shaking uncomfortably. Emily took pity on him and blasted him with warm air to dry him off.
"Whoa!" Terry exclaimed. "How did you do that without a wand?"
"I just did it without a wand," Emily said as if it was basic logic.
"But you can't do magic without a wand!"
"Are you stupid?" Emily asked seriously. VIolet smacked her upside the head. "I mean are you not smart?"
Violet sighed and dragged her off with the flow of students. Aleck, Terry, and Amy followed them after a split second. Emily could see that the tall man had led them up to where Professor Longbottom was, and he led them to a magnificent pair of wooden doors.
He looked over all of them to make sure that they were all appropriately dressed before entering the hall. He looked at her in confusion.
"Ms. Frost," he said. "Why are you soaking wet?"
"I felt like a bit of a dip in the lake," she said warmly. Aleck coughed in surprise while Amy and Terry just looked at her in surprise. Violet just sighed tiredly.
"Well you'll have a point off in advance of whatever house you go to," Professor Longbottom said. "And I'm sure that won't be the best way to make a first impression, so be careful about when you decide to go for a dip in the lake."
"Yessir!"
The professor sighed before opening the doors to the Great Hall, and Emily gasped in shock again. The hall was magnificent. The hall was huge and its ceiling reflected the night skies. Candles flew throughout the hall in order to light it. Large banners of the houses descended from the illusory sky and long tables ran the length of the hall. Emily heard a blonde girl near her whine piteously at the sight of the hall which confused her. How could someone see something like this and think of anything except for how awesome it was.
As they were led deeper into the hall, with all the students watching them, she was only wondering about one thing in particular. One of the four tables was almost completely empty. The table that had a blue tablecloth only had a single person sitting in the middle of the table, with only one plate and set of silverware.
She turned to Terry to ask about it. "Why is one of the tables empty?"
"That's Ravenclaw," he said, a little bit uncomfortable. "No one's been sorted into it for about a dozen years or so. There's only been one person sorted into Ravenclaw in that time. You can probably see her there."
There was in fact, only one girl sitting at the table, and she appeared to be an older year student. Emily wondered about the silliness of having an entire house of the school for just one student, but wrote it off as something that was strange just because of magic.
The first years were led up to a stool with a very decrepit looking hat that sat upon it. Emily was confused about what was supposed to be happening until the hat moved and started to sing.
The hat sang about the characteristics of the houses and it was mildly interesting, but she was impatiently wondering which of the houses that she was going to be sorted into. Eventually the song came to a close and the hall clapped respectfully, and then, finally, Professor Longbottom came up with a list of names and started calling them out.
"Anderson, Jacob" Professor Longbottom announced. A brown haired boy stepped forward cautiously and made his way up to the stool. He sat down on the stool slowly and the professor put the hat onto his head. After only a few seconds of waiting the hat yelled out "Hufflepuff!"
The table with the yellow tablecloth clapped and whooped loudly at the announcement. They were incredibly excited at having landed the first student of the year, but soon the quieted down for the next person to be called.
"Bagman, Barry" went to "Slytherin!" with the green tablecloth and "Bell, Winston" followed shortly after.
Then came "Benald, Sebastian" who was one of the two others that had shared Emily's first boat. One of the two that had been talking about magical concepts that she didn't understand. He got to the stool and the hat had barely touched his head before he shouted out "SLYTHERIN!" much louder than the ones that had come before him. The green table clapped a little louder in response, slightly surprised at how loud the hat had been.
Professor Longbottom waited a long moment after that. He looked a little reluctant to say the next name, but after a long moment he announced "Black, Bellatrix" which caused the hall to grow silent. That had been a surprise to Emily. Even when the hall was supposed to be quiet, there were some people that were quietly conversing anyway, but now, you could hear a pin drop.
Violet moved after a second and mader her way to the stool. Terry looked at her in shock. Before she sat down on the stool she looked at Professor Longbottom and said "My name is Violet, not Bellatrix." And she pulled the hat over her head.
After a minute of waiting, Emily realized that it was going to take a while for the hat to sort her.
Terry grabbed her arm. "You're a Black?" He asked, incredulous.
"Uhh, no my last name is Frost."
"But you said that you were sisters"?"
"We are."
"Is Black a wizarding name?" Amy asked. "Everyone got really quiet when Professor Longbottom announced it."
"It is," Terry answered gravely. "Bellatrix Black was a Death Eater. The right hand woman to You-know-who himself. She was probably the worst Death Eater. It's a big deal that that's her name."
"Well, Violet didn't even know that that was her name until two months ago!" Emily said angrily. And its ridiculous to blame her for what her possible parents did or didn't do!"
"I'm not blaming her," Terry explained. "It's just curious, is all."
"Slytherin." the hat said quietly. Emily almost didn't hear it, it was so quiet. The hat sounded reluctant, if anything. It was not happy to say it. Violet quietly made her way to the Slytherin table, and there were only a few people that were clapping.
Emily was screaming at the top of her lungs. "WOOOOO. GO VIOLETTTT. I'M COMING RIGHT BEHIND YOU!" Violet obviously heard her and just shook her head with a wry smile on her face before sitting down at the table and trying to introduce herself to some of the others.
"Browns, Joshua" went to Gryffindor and "Bulstrode, Matthew" went to Slytherin.
"Campbell, Freya" almost tripped over her shoelaces on her way to Hufflepuff and "Chang, Michael" started to walk to Gryffindor without taking the hat off, making the professor pull it off. "Davis, Harry" shortly followed him.
"Dursley, Clover" came next, and Emily recognized her as the blonde who had very obviously been uncomfortable with entering the hall. She went up to the hat meekly and put the hat on. Then, they waited. And waited. And waited until the hat said "Gryffindor!"
"Edgecombe, Lisa" to Slytherin and "Flores, Daisy" to Hufflepuff and finally it was…
"Frost, Emily"
Emily skipped up to the stool, leaving behind a few puddles of water that she hadn't gotten around to drying off. She sat down on the stool with only a sidelong glance at Professor Longbottom, daring him to say something. He didn't, and the hat went on her head.
And what do we have here… a voice said in her head. Oh? A very exceptional mind we have here. And with such a unique and powerful talent too… I see a lot in you, young one. You could do very well in many places, but where to place you is the question. Not Hufflepuff I see. You are very loyal but I think that you might drive many of them to insanity, trying to keep up with you. Not Slytherin either. Sorry you can't follow your sister, but there's something for her in that house that she has to find for herself. So that leaves us with…
Huh?
The voice in her head grew silent. Emily had assumed that the voice had been the hat, and he was talking about his deliberation of which house to put her in, but now the voice had gone silent. And it stayed silent for a very long time. Minutes went along as Emily sat there, growing slightly uncomfortable.
"Professor?" Emily said. "I think I broke it." Emily couldn't see the professor's reaction but he was looking at her in shocked silence.
I see…
I want to put you in Gryffindor very badly.
But your gift. Your gift is undeniably a gift from another house.
It's probably a good thing that I talked to young Miss Dursley before you.
It seems that that might be enough to overcome the curse.
Could it be? Could you be the one that we've been waiting for? Could you break our curse? Could our curse be broken? Will you break our curse? Will you be the one to break our curse? Break our curse, child. Learn and break the curse.
"Ravenclaw," the hat said very fast, as if something would cut him off before he could finish saying it, and the hall was shocked into silence another time. Emily took off the hat, and handed it to the professor. She didn't like the hat much. It talked about weird things that didn't make much sense to her.
Only a few people were clapping in the hall. One, she realized happily was Violet, who was dutifully trying to make just as much noise that Emily had made for her. Some others were Terry, Amy, and Aleck who made small and shocked clapping.
Emily made her way to the blue table and sat across from the table from the only other student at the table with her. She looked at Emily completely shocked, not expecting to get a new Housemate in her.
"Garcia, Jessica" started the sorting again.
"Hi, I'm Emily," she said to the other girl at her table. She continued to look at Emily in complete shock. "What's your name?"
"Gryffindor!"
The girl didn't stop looking at Emily disbelievingly.
"Grubbly, Katherine."
"I didn't expect for anyone else to get sorted into Ravenclaw," the girl said slowly. "I thought that it might be impossible at that point. I wonder why it isn't."
"Slytherin!"
"My name is Clarity Pense," Clarity said. "The seventh year Ravenclaw and Head Girl. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Hall, Amy" Emily turned away from Clarity to look at her new friend being sorted, completely ignoring Clarity's introduction. It was only a few seconds before Amy went to "Hufflepuff!"
"Harris, Phoebe" was called before Emily's attention came back to Clarity, who was quickly hiding an annoyed glare with a friendly smile.
Weird.
"Nice to meet you, Clarity," Emily said. "Do you know why no one goes to Ravenclaw?"
"Hufflepuff!"
"Well, that's a hard question," Clarity said, considering. ("Hernandez, Lewis") "No one's been able to figure it out. Professor Flitwick thinks that it has something to do with a curse that used to be on the Defense Professor position. It used to be that every year there would be a new Defense Professor."
"Hufflepuff!"
"But, then a few years after that stopped, people stopped being sorted into Ravenclaw."
"Irst, Nick" was called. A black haired boy wearing sunglasses stepped forward and sat on the stool. After a minute "Gryffindor!" was called.
"Well, do you think that's what it is?" Emily asked curiously.
"Johnson, Daniel"
"It could be," Clarity said, considering. "No one else has a better reason, really."
"Gryffindor!"
"Well, I've got a theory," Emily said proudly.
"Johnson, Thomas" was called next to Emily's interest. Twins? That was cool.
"Oh?" Clarity asked, intrigued. "And what theory is that?"
"Hufflepuff!"
"I think the hat is cursed."
"Johnson, Olivia"
Clarity was looking at her seriously, considering what she was hearing. She breathed deeply and sat back in her chair. She thought deeply about what Emily suggested.
"Gryffindor!"
"It's possible," Clarity said. "Although I think it would be hard to curse a thousand year old object."
"Jones, Chloe"
"Huh, oh yeah cool. That's cool." Emily said dismissively, attention already grabbed again by the fact that there was in fact a set of triplets in her year. And they all didn't go to the same house, how terribly interesting.
"Gryffindor!"
"Nothing keeps your attention for long, does it?" Clarity asked her.
"Jones, Jack"
"More twins?" Emily asked aloud.
"Huh?"
"Gryffindor!"
"That's the second pair of twins so far," Emily explained. "Is magical twins a thing?"
"Jorkins, Bertha."
"I'm a muggleborn so I'm not really sure," Clarity said. "But I think I've noticed more twins than there should be over the years? I'm not completely sure though."
"Slytherin!"
"Kettleburn, Sean"
Emily thought that this was taking a long time with a yawn. She rested her head in her arms and shut her eyes at the cry of "Slytherin!"
"Longbottom, Abby." the professor said with notably more pride than he had said for all of the other names. Emily picked her head up again to look at Abby make her way up to the hat and get sorted into "Gryffindor!" very quickly. Professor Longbottom started vehemently clapping at that.
"Lopez, Benjamin."
"You know her?" Clarity asked.
"Yeah she came with her father when he dropped off my Hogwarts letter.
"Hufflepuff!"
"Yeah, the professor is really cool," Clarity said. "He's a big war hero from the war."
"Malfoy, Scorpius" was called and the hall went silent. It was silent in much the same way that it had been silent for Violet. She was going to ask Clarity if he came from one of the bad families in the war, but was stopped by the expression on her face. Clarity was staring at the boy with open contempt, such that Violet felt uncomfortable just looking at her.
Scorpius had been under the hat for a long time now, deep in conversation with the hat. The hat was shaking from side to side, like it was vehemently disagreeing with something. It was struggling, Emily realized. It was struggling with something much like it had struggled when it was trying to sort her.
"Hufflepuff!" Was called unexpectedly. The Hufflepuff table only managed a few small rounds of claps in response. There were several people on the table that were glaring at him in open disdain and Emily wondered if they were going to make a scene or not.
"Macnair, Olivia" "Marchbanks, Mary", and "McLaggen, Willow" all went to "Slytherin!" back to back. Then, to Emily's amusement the pair of "Miller, Lucy" and "Miller, Oliver" were sorted to Gryffindor and Hufflepuff respectively. Then, "Mitchell, Rebecca" and "Moore, Joseph" went to "Hufflepuff!" without issue.
"Parkinson, Peter" made his way to the stool, with a prideful sneer out at the crowd and was sorted to "Slytherin!" in short order. Soon, "Podmore, Neal" followed him.
"Polkiss, Paul" was next, and Emily recognized him as the deaf boy that she and Violet had not gotten around to introducing themselves to. Violet had really wanted to say hi to show him that there was at least going to be one person that he would be able to sign with. He went to Slytherin, much to the chagrin of Parkinson who was glaring daggers at him.
"Potter, Albus" was next, and Emily recognized the boy from Diagon Alley. The students had grown quiet again in anticipation of where he was going to be sorted. Emily saw Clarity had shifted in her seat slightly, and was leaning forward interestedly. After only a few seconds the hat cried out "Ravenclaw!"
Emily reflected that the more times that the students were shocked into silence, the effect that it made was lessened. This had to be the fifth or sixth time this night at least, and now the boy was sitting up on the stool and looked like he was about to pass out. The only person clapping was Clarity across from her. She was standing up and giving a standing ovation for him.
After a moment of indecision, Albus made his way over to the Ravenclaw table. He looked very unsure of himself, almost in shock. He sat down to the left of Emily and stared at his plate unseeingly.
"Clarity Pense," Clarity said while sticking out a hand for Albus to shake.
"Albus P-Potter," he said quietly.
"It's great to have you here," Clarity said warmly. "It's been a while since I've had any housemates."
"Rivera, Aaron"
"You used to have housemates?" Emily asked.
"Hufflepuff!"
"Yeah in my first few years there were still some upper years," Clarity explained seriously. "The weird thing with Ravenclaw house didn't start until a few years before me."
"Rodriguez, Emily."
"Well you must have been quite exceptional to be the first sorted into Ravenclaw for a few years," Emily said, ignoring her slight confusion at her own name being called again.
"Gryffindor!"
"That's rich coming from you," Clarity said. "It's not like you broke a longer streak than I did for Ravenclaw dry spells."
"Rodriguez, Thomas."
Emily shrugged helplessly. "The hat said something about my gift being a Ravenclaw gift or something. I don't think much about me had much to do with the sorting."
"Gryffindor!"
"A...gift?" Clarity asked interestedly, her eyes focusing intently at Emily. "You...have a gift?"
"Scrimgeour, Amy."
"Yeah," Emily said as if it was obvious. "Uhh, there's this thing called magic. You might have heard of it."
"Slytherin!"
Clarity was looking at her seriously, as if her joke had not been understood by her at all. She turned her attention to Albus. "Anyway, what's it like to finally break the streak?"
"Smith, William."
Albus shrugged helplessly. "I was really thinking that I was going to be a Gryffindor," he said quietly. "I didn't even think that I was that smart. I don't know how I got sorted here."
"Gryffindor!"
"Well you must be special somehow," Clarity reasoned. "You must be special to be sorted here. If you ever need any help with anything you should just come find me. I'd be happy to help!"
"Taylor, Archie."
Clarity had said that looking right at Albus, and Emily couldn't help but get the oddest feeling that the offer was not extended to her, but she didn't show any misgivings.
"Hufflepuff!"
"Thomas, Aleck" was called and Emily looked over just in time to see him sorted into "Hufflepuff!" The tables were really filling up now. The sections that had been left empty for new arrivals at the other tables were quickly filling up as they reached the end of the sorting. If anything, that led to further the effect of emptiness caused by the Ravenclaw table.
"Thompson, Isabella" to Hufflepuff, and "Turpin, Sally" to Slytherin passed without issue. And Emily watched "Twycross, Terry" go to Slytherin with only a few seconds of deliberation. Emily saw Clarity's face gain a slight scowl at the sight of Terry, but decided not to comment on it.
"Vane, Alex" to Gryffindor and "Walker, Alice" to Hufflepuff before "Weasley, Rose" was called. Albus perked his head up again. The redhead girl was walking towards the stool with the hat on it. But about a meter away from the stool the hat suddenly yelled out "Hufflepuff!" That was a surprise. Rose had not even come close to putting the hat on. She went over to the Hufflepuff table anyways and sat next to the boy named Scorpius that had caused the hall to grow silent over.
"White, Alexis" came next and Emily recognized her as the other girl that had shared her first boat. The brunette sat down under the hat and was sorted to Hufflepuff in short order.
And the sorting came to a close with "Wilson, Holly" and "Young, Emma" going to Gryffindor and Hufflepuff respectively. The hat bowed to the four tables as the students clapped respectfully.
The woman sitting in the center of the head table, and Emily assumed that she had to be Minerva McGonagall, the Headmistress. She said a few words before a feast appeared before all of them, and they dug in.
