Rwby: A Gutsy world
Hello everyone Bankerrtx01 here with a new chapter of a gusty world. Please note this is not taking over Good old days this is just a plot bunny that would not go away. I've hit a snag with good old days and im Trying to resolve it as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience and please enjoy
Chapter 2
Beacon
Ozpin had just gotten back to beacon after accepting a young 15 year old girl to beacon early. He knew he had made the right choice. Yes Ms rose would miss two years of signal academy. But those years were just review years and a way for young children auras to mature and gain more muscle mass. Simply put Ms Rose's potential was squandered if she stayed at signal.
Ozpin sat down in his chair and saw surprised that his scroll went off. He looked to see it was from Qrow.
"I'm back."
Ozpin sighed finally a good report after his return with the fallen Amber. Ozpin was on edge. Qrow hadn't said anything about urgent matters so he assumed it was good news. 'Or as good as it could get.'
Ozpin let Qrow in and the man sat down across from him. No movement was waisted
"Qrow. You look…surprisingly sober…" Ozpin said weary and shocked. A sober Qrow was a dangerous Qrow. Not only because his semblance was at full power. But because Ozpin could rarely sway him from something if he set his mind to it. When he went to recruit Qrow for his cause against Salem. He was fortunate that he was drinking his life away at an illegal bar. As a way he could threaten the owner to not stop him drinking before he died or else he would arrest him.
But sober. Ozpin didn't know if that was good or bad.
"Yep. Let me tell Oz you feels good for once In my life I actually feel free." He said as he leaned back as if he had no care in the world.
Ozpin was shocked 'had his magic been weighing his enforcer down? Was there a issue he'd have to look into. Would he have to take the magic back?'
Ozpin turned off the cameras in his office and leaned forward projecting a no nonsense personality
"Qrow if my magic is hampering you I will be able to take it back." He said
"Qrow shot forward so quickly with his hands raised "woah woah the magic is no problem. Its the kid." Qrow said
Ozpin sat back relieved but curious "the kid?" He asked
"Yea the kid I gave you a report on to recruit. Guts. Let me tell you the kids unbelievable." Qrow said
"Yes I've read your report on him however I fail to see how a young kid who isn't even a an official huntsman can help us stop Her…" Ozpin said
Qrow shook his head. You weren't there Oz. The kid saved my life
"A bit of an exaggeration Qrow you are a very capable Huntsman I doubt you would not know when to retreat."
Qrow scoffed " trust me, that kid is more powerful than he looks and the beast he fought. I thought I was a goner."
"I got the impression that the monster was killed in one shot by the kid when you met." Ozpin said rereading the report again to make sure he got it right.
"There was another." Qrow said
"Another?" Ozpin asked
"Oh yes this one came while we were fighting and damn did it fit the description of monster. Fuck it was an Algmation of several different Grimm. It had claws and spikes of an Ursa. The body of a Bengreil. Head of a Beowolf. And a tail with a ton of spikes. And it spoke." Qrow said
"It spoke you, heard it?" Ozpin said clearly worried the fact that it spoke was clearly worrying for Ozpin as it ment She might have had more humans to turn into Grimm.
"I didn't hear it but the kid did. He said it came from some astral place whatever. But the thing was tougher than normal Grimm my sword couldn't touch it." Qrow said
"Really?" Ozpin asked shocked at how dangerous this Grimm was.
"Yeah but that kid Guts…he just took one swing and cut the arm clean off." Qrow said
Ozpin sat impressed. "Well true but that still doesn't mean he's good enough for the cause.
"Ozpin that kid could take on You, Glynda, Jimmy and Me at the same time win and be able to fight another horde of Grimm after. He will either be our greatest ally or our worst enemy… don't squander this moment Ozpin." Qrow said
Now Ozpin realized why Qrow wasn't drunk for this. He really did believe the ability of this kid. And to be fare Ozpin wanted to believe. But he had to be sure.
"Fine. We will see, send him in." Ozpin said
Qrow leaned back "Guts you're up!"
Ozpin shook his head as the door opened and a young kid came in.
The first thing he noticed was the fact that the kid had rudimentary armor on helmet. Chest plate. Greeves gauntlets. Almost everything is covered.
However the thing that he noticed was the how simple the sword was. It wasn't really a sword it barely contained an edge it was more just a hunk of steel.
"So your the one they call Guts." Ozpin says.
Guts took off his helmet. And unslung his sword. Placing it on the ground. He stood by the sword and nodded
"Easy kid you can trust him." Qrow said
Guts nodded "yea that's my name."
"No last or family name?" Ozpin asked
"No…" Guts said and that was the end of that Ozpin was going to push but Qrow shook his head.
Ozpin however pressed on "so I've talked to Qrow and to be simple he's really impressed on your ability however that alone doesn't qualify you for my school. So Why should I let you in my school?"
"Simply put you shouldn't." Guts said shocking Qrow as well as Ozpin.
Guts however countuned "I'm…cursed, best way to describe it. I fight monsters not because I wish to or have any reason of grandeur but because I don't have any other choice, they will keep following me until there satisfied." Guts said
Ozpin didn't expect that answer it was very similar to his story. Just a bit of a twist.
"Hmm tell me do you know of the tale of two brothers?" Ozpin asked
Qrow was shocked he didn't expect him to be that blunt.
"Qrow has told me a few of the fairy tales of this world…not that I believe them at least not all of them."
"But the brothers tale?" Ozpin insisted.
"I believe there is a god, your version of the god no I don't believe they are…" Guts said
Ozpin looked to Qrow and smiled
"Well simply put in afraid that's where your wrong." Ozpin said as he began his tale and how he became cursed by the brothers.
Guts for his part didn't argue, just listened until the end.
"This is the burden I must face. And I'm asking you for help Guts." Ozpin said his eyes looked almost pleading.
Guts thought for a bit deeply.
Later Ozpin office. Guts had left
"I'm very glad you found him Qrow if you are right he is a very powerful ally indeed. Also I have news… your niece is coming to beacon… and I have no doubt that she will be under good protection.
Guts reached his on site dorm room and laid his stuff down and got on the bed it's been a long time sense he had an actual bed… heck this entire place itself was running off of like magic… well at least to him Sherkie would probably say otherwise.
Guts drifted off to sleep he had a long day ahead tomorrow as he tried to adjust to this "technology"
The next day.
Glynda was wondering what such a panic was going on she had a message that was sent to her scroll to please get to the cafeteria as soon as Possible and that an intruder was spotted there.
When Glynda kicked open the doors she expected a massacre. For someone to get into beacon without her knowing they had to be powerful.
What she didn't expect was that the entire room was empty except a single person and the kitchen staff the lone person was eating a sandwich as everyone else was staring at him.
Glynda growled and flicked her riding crop as several tables flew towards Guts.
He didn't do anything and at the last moment he rolled away allowing the table to smash the window behind him
Glynda grabbed the glass shards with her semblance and wrapped them around Guts.
She watched as the glass dug through his skin and coiled around him constricting him.
Glynda got closer and looked deep into his eyes to let him know she would be the last thing he sees for threatening her students.
However that didn't happen as the man Trusted his arms out and broke Glyndas semblance dropping him to the ground.
Before Glynda could react a hand grabbed her jaw and flipped her around the air and slammed her into the ground.
The force of the impact broke the ground and caused her aura to shudder
Guts sighed but didn't continue the onslaught " I just wanted food. No one was here so I took some I didn't expect to be attacked." He said
"My apologies for my headmistress attacking you, she was not at the meeting when we had you join so she was unaware of your privileges. As do the rest of the staff. I was about to send out an email when I got the alert an intruder was on campus knowing it was you I tried to intervene but it seems I was too late." Ozpin said
"Eh it's nothing Oz, I just hope no hard feelings between the two of us." Guts said looking over to Glynda worried as she got up and limped over
"Nothing injuried except my pride." She said panting
Guts smiled "that's good. I'm glad I did hit you into the ground pretty hard." Guts said
"Yea. Excuse me I'm going to get an aura booster from the nurse." Glynda said as she limped out
Guts looked over and saw the destruction that 5 minute fight took "oops." He said as went to right several tables.
Ozpin sat back and watched and once Guts was done with the tables and looking at the window He stepped forward.
"It took a while but here is the scroll. Qrow has told me about your past, and where you've come from, so I've taken the time to upload several documents for you to read to get you caught up on Remnant affairs and history. It will also act as the key to your dorm from now on, the new students will be here in a week or two to become huntsmen, as i'd like for you to be here as a student as well," Ozpin said
"Well you said the relics are one in each school, yes ill come here as a student. If only to actually protect the vault. And future huntsmen," Guts said
Ozpin nodded and saw Guts off as he returned to his office.
The rest of the week was a rather boring time for Guts he just went to the courtyard and swung his sword, it wasnt as heavy as th dragonslayer, but still to his shock his physical 17 year old muscles were not strong enough to heave the full 200lbs now, but his sword now was close enough.
"199...200!" Guts yelled as he finished his swings before he dropped his sword and gripped his hand. "Damn…" he hisses as he eased his hand until it stopped spazzing.
Once he got it under control he grabbed his sword and looked up as he heard the engines of the air buses from beacon bringing in new students.
"Looks like it it's time to go." He said as he started to head inside. We got farely far. Until he heard an explosion back from the way he came.
"What the-?" Guts asked acting on instinct we headed back to investigate.
By the time he got there he missed most of the interaction and cause however he did see a girl in a red dress hit lay back down hitting the ground
"Welcome to beacon…" the girl said
"Hey…I'm Jaune." Another person said as he helped her up. And he heard her snort. "Weren't you the guy who threw up on the ship?"
As Guts followed them. Not because he wanted to be awkward but more because he didn't want them to get lost. It was one of the minor jobs Ozpin tasked him for the new students,
Which was good because five minutes later he heard the blond say. "Oh I don't know I was following you."
Guts rolled his eyes and grabbed them and dragged them off to the auditorium.
Once they arrived Guts let them go and walked off the girl went to call off to him but was cut off. By someone else
Guts sat against the wall as Ozpin started his speech.
Guts found nothing notable of this only the fact that he believes 90% of the candidates were weak. What fun. And he had to be with them for 4 fucking years. If they are as pitiful as Ozpin says he'd rather be sent back to the eclipse again…
Finally Glynda gave them permission to go get ready for bed Guts didn't need to be told twice.
He was the first to sleep and didn't hear the ranting of four young girls as the lights went out.
The next day Guts woke up and got breakfast and arrived at the cliffs when he was told.
He was the first to arrive at the cliffs seeing as he was already outside. And reached the cliffs.
Ozpin told him what to expect for the entry exam as Guts stood on the platform.
Ozpin did his spheal about team assembly. And how they would be chosen.
When Ozpin asked if there were any questions he heard the blond from before ask if he was giving out parachutes. And the other questions.
Ozpin looked around and saw Guts had a question.
"Yes?" He said
"Sir what if hypothetically… you reach the objective grab a relic. And return to the cliff and don't find a partner?" Guts asked
"Well that would be an interesting turn of events." Ozpin said with a smile hinting that's what he expected of Guts .
Guts smiled and got ready as he saw the kids being launched into the sky. He too followed but he just flew allowing his body to fall naturally. He did find himself lucky to find a tree big enough to slow his fall. He cut the trunk with his sword to slow himself down so he wasn't squashed on impact.
However it didn't save his arm from being dislocated as he landed and groaned to the ground.
"Damn…I need to keep going." Guts said as he pushed himself forward.
Fortunately he was able to keep going as he shouldered his sword and walked deeper in the woods.
On the cliff Glynda was looking at the scroll watching the students progress.
"Looks like every student has a partner. Except for Guts…I wondered why we had an odd number of candidates this year." Glynda said as he tapped on her scroll before making a face and trying again
"Is something the matter?" Ozpin said
"Yes according to this I have two students who don't have there Auras unlocked… no make that one. Mr Arc just had his done by his partner… I don't care what those transcripts say He's not ready for this level of combat…" Glynda said
"And who is the other person?" Ozpin asked
"Guts sir…" Glynda said
Ozpin narrowed his eyes
'Impossible…fighting a Grimm two Grimm like Qrow described without Aura. And bring that impressed on Qrow… however I saw the fight with Goodwitch he's definitely good…but no aura…' Ozpin thought
He was in such deep thoughts he didn't even hear Glynda ask about what relics he chose for this year.
"Professor Ozpin?" Glynda asked
"Focus on Guts for now the other students are safe."
"Umm yes professor but what about Miss Rose?" She asked
"She is safe." Ozpin insisted.
Back on the forest floor Guts ran into a few Grimm, to which due to his injury he was only able to give a glancing blow. However even that was enough to kill them
"Tch must have sense my worry about my injury argh best keep moving no time to dwell…" Guts said to himself until he heard an argument
"Stop treating me like a kid?!"
"Well Stop acting like your perfect?!"
"I'm not perfect…not yet… but I'm still league's better than you."
Guts came to a clearing yo see the girl from earlier arguing with a girl in white
"HEY!" Guts snapped as he marched closer
"Quit your bitchy attitude we're in a battlezone leave the drama till after! That's how people die! Not to mention you'll just attract more Grimm." Guts said silencing the both of them
Seeing as they didn't say anything Guts headed to the objective only to be send flying by a Grimm. Smashing into a tree.
"Hey!" The girl in Red yelled only for white to grab her hand
"There's nothing we can do!" She said but Red wasn't having it and ripped her arm away.
"use some of your dust to cut the Grimm off from him I'll pull him away!" She snapped as she used her semblance to get to Guts
Don't worry I got you." The girl said
The Grimm roared and was about to leap towards them but a wall of fire kept him from coming closer
Ruby looked over to Weiss
"WELL DON'T JUST STAND THERE GET HIM OUT OF THERE!" Weiss yelled
Ruby picked Guts up who was fading in and out of consciousness, his helmet shattered but his head intact.
Ruby lifted him up or tried to "he's too heavy!" Ruby cried
The Grimm roared and charged forward passing through the fire without a care in the world
"DIE BLACKSWORDSMEN!" The Grimm yelled
Guts immediately snapped his eyes up and rolled away with Ruby as the Grimm barred through the tree.
"Get out of here thanks for the save but I'm fine." He said to the two of them.
The girl in white shook her head "stop trying to act like a tough guy your already bleeding!" As she pointed to his neck.
"So the brand is still there." Guts muttered to himself as the Grimm Apostle came out.
"I can smell you from a mile away. This time I shall claim your soul!" The Grimm said
"You got the first shot…come take it!" Guts said
The Grimm and Guts charged much to the girls Chargen but as soon as they clashed they relized just how outmatched they are to this Grimm it's speed wears twice as quick as Ruby was with her semblance.
And it's power was more than enough to shatter the cliff.
Yet Guts was keeping up with him with a dislocated shoulder and a concussion.
The Grimm didn't stand a chance as Guts be-headed it as soon as it's first heavy hit was overextended. It still hit Guts but he brushed it off. As the Grimm disappeared.
"You win this time…blackswordsmen…" the apostle vanished.
Guts huffed as he went to keep walking but his body gave out.
"Hey hey stay with me!" Ruby said
"Ruby it's no use he's a goner. Wait how does he not have his aura unlocked." Weiss said
"Come on help me unlock his aura it could save his life." Ruby said
"Well seeing as he did save our life it's the best we can do." Weiss said
The two girls unlocked Guts aura and with that the wounds he sustained vanished except for the wound in his neck still stayed.
"I wonder why that isn't healing?" Weiss asked as she reached over to examine it
Suddenly Guts snapped awake and grabbed her hand "don't touch me!" He snapped as he looked around…
"Sorry…I'm just…sensitive…" Guts said
Ruby and Weiss looked at each other but nodded as Guts stood up. " come on let's get to the objective." He said
Back on the cliff Glynda and Ozpin were in shock. They had witnessed the fight with the apostle Grimm on camera. And to see Guts triumph over that thing without his aura unlocked was a marvel. And that his aura was unlocked…
"Glynda… I must thank Qrow for bringing that kid to my attention…" Ozpin said
"Yes professor I now understand what you mean by Miss Rose being perfectly safe…" she said.
Guts and the two girls finally reached the another part of her forest and the three began to talk
"What type of Grimm was that I never seen a Grimm like that before." Weiss said
"I don't know…but I don't think it was a Grimm." Ruby panted
"That's because it wasn't." Guts said
Ruby and Weiss looked at each other before Weiss spoke.
"What do you mean it wasn't a Grimm? What else could it be?" Weiss asked
"It doesn't matter it's dead…" Guts said as he looked up and saw a massive bird flying towards them he rolled out of the way. But Ruby was scooped up.
"Ruby!?" Weiss called
Guts walked away.
"Where do you think your going?" She asked
"To the objective… I don't care she's your partner." Guts said
"Is that how you treat those who you care for well no wonder why people always leave you." Weiss said
Unknown to Weiss Guts was having a flashback to the eclipse, the rape of Casca. And all the hell he went through.
He growled and headed back to a tree and pull down the trunk. He was surprised how easy it was as compared to before.
"Don't question my motives for doing anything." Guts hissed
"And where are you going?" Weiss ranted.
"Taking care of my family…" Guts said as he jumped and the tree sprung back launching him forward into the sky leaving Weiss alone.
"We'll just great!" Weiss said as she used her glyphs to get to The Nevermore.
Guts flew through the air and finally reached the Nevermore seeing as both girls were riding Guts grabbed the bird by the foot and dragged it down back to the ground.
The bird crashed as Ruby and Weiss tumbled off Guts walked out from under it and cut it with his sword.
The Nevermore screeched and flew off.
"Did that person just drag a giant Nevermore down with just his weight?" A girl in black asked
"You saw that too?" The blond male from before asked
Guts looked over to the statue "are these the relics?" Guts asked
"Apparently." The girl in black said as a giant Scorpion appeared. And the others talked
"Ok then. See ya." Guts said as he grabbed a white Queen and stuffed it in his pocket
"Wait where are you going? Where is your partner?" A girl in yellow asked
"Don't have one." Guts said as he watched Weiss and Ruby talk about how childish Ruby was and how prissy Weiss is.
After a while Guts heard that the students were getting ready to leave. When Guts felt blood on her neck
'Shit not here…' Guts though.
"Stop talking and Get going." Guts said as he slammed his sword on the ground.
"Guts…" Weiss said
"I'm taking care of those I care for." Guts said
Suddenly the tree exploded and another Apostle Grimm stomped out.
"A-another one?" Ruby asked
"Get moving! I'll cover you!" Guts said as he grabbed his sword and charged forward
Yang cocked her gauntlets but Ruby stopped her "no Yang!" She said
"Huh?" She asked
"You can't face off against that…thing only he can." Ruby said
"Ruby?" Yang asked
"Your sister is right, we have to go now!" Weiss said
Suddenly Guts went flying past and knocked down a tree.
With another tree flying after Guts.
On the cliff Glynda and Ozpin were tense. " how did another of those Monsters show up?!" Glynda asked
" I do not know but what I do know is that only Guts can handle it." He said
Glynda nodded and sent a ping to the students on there scrolls
"All students get back to the cliffs."
Guts rolled under the flying tree and watched as he watched to see the students running back to the cliff he looked at his scroll to see the message. He smerked
Now he could stop holding back
"Ok…let's test this Aura thing out." Guts said as he gripped his sword.
The Apostle lunged and went for a punch and Guts leveled his sword out to block it he expected to be going flying. However to his surprise he barely felt it.
"Woah, that's a trip." Guts said as he struck back at the Apostle and he was surprised at how easy the fight was.
"This is like the berserker armor all over." Guts said as he rushed at the apostle. He expected to reach it in 20 paces however to his surprise he reached it in 4. He was so surprised by this he in fact missed the swing and was punched in the stomach for it. Sending him flying
"Ow! Fuck! Ok note to self this aura. While good doesn't make you not feel pain. Shit!" Guts hissed as he threw himself to the left dodging a tree.
"Hmm it seems you've gotten stronger Black swordsmen. Well so have I!" The apostle said as the Grimm started to bubble and it sprouted more limbs and a set of wings.
Guts was appalled an apostle with 2 transformations.
"You can change twice?!" Guts asked
"Huh? Oh Hmm I didn't notice but no this is my true form the other form was my "human form!" He said as he lunged at Guts again
Guts slid down parrying the strike with his sword before using all his strength and cutting the beast in two.
However in doing so his blade broke in half.
"Your soul…is ours one day…" the apostle said as he faded to dust.
Guts huffed that was a battle he expected with an apostle. 'So they too get a power up from being in this world…that is troubling but for now he needed a new sword.'
He made his way back to the cliffs and saw the future team Rwby and JNPR take out there massive Grimm. The giant Nevermore that Gut sliced and for JNPR it's the scorpion. He smiled they were impressive warriors in there own right and he definitely was impressed.
He climbed the cliff and finally the team ceremony began placing The two teams together.
Guts smiled at there placements Ozpin definitely made a good choice in terms of leaders. That Arc kid might be a bit stupid but he has potential. And he remembered quiet well the commands Ruby gave Weiss when they went to save him.
Still he was quiet miffed that he didn't get a placement solo huntsman or not ostracized or not. He wasn't one for the spotlight but still a little recondition wouldn't hurt too much.
Once the ceremony ended he noticed that there were actually over 50 people who were not called
"For those of you not called upon in sorry but the limited capacity of beacon makes it difficult to announce but we cannot accept you this year as huntsman… please come back next year to try again. That is all." Glynda said as she walked off
'Well guess that's it… time to go back to the city.' Guts though
However his scroll vibrated saying he got a message.
"Please see me in my office at the top of the tower" -Oz
Guts narrowed his eyes but he answered the summons none the less as he knocked on the door
"Enter." Ozpin said on the other side
"You wanted to see me Ozpin- um headmaster?" Guts said
"Yes Guts please Sit down." Ozpin gestured to a chair
Guts did so Ozpin put his scroll to his mouth "Glynda he's here. Tell the Buses to take off."
"At once headmaster." Glynda's voice said as Ozpin lowered the scroll and dropped it on the table
"I bet your wondering why I called you to see me when by all means I didn't call you for the ceremony." Ozpin said
Guts allowed him to explain and just nodded
"Simply put I was afraid that to publicly broadcast your achievements would be a political shitstorm. Icing someone there own dorm when we could in reality fit a whole other team." Ozpin explained
Guts nodded from what he saw it was a very prodigious academy. So it would be understandable if people were angry he had made it so they couldn't be up to par.
"There is another reason as well." Ozpin said
Guts looked up curious
"While we watched your battle during the exam simply put we were both awestruck with your capabilities. You raw talent and skill match that of most fourth year teams or even graduates. And that was even before you had your aura unlocked. Simply put if we put you in beacons cerulium we would be doing a disservice to you. However I'd still very much want you here." Ozpin said
"I understand Sir. So where do we go from here?" Guts asked
" As of now the only class you will have with everyone else will be combat class with Goodwitch. All other classes will be taught to you by me. However understand that I am a headmaster. And I won't be teaching you as often as the other students. What is most likely to happen is that I will be giving you a few readings and giving you missions to perform inside the city probably once a week. I hope this is a good compromise for us to teach you Guts." Ozpin said apologetically
Guts smiled "it's more than enough Headmaster. I thank you for giving me this opportunity." Guts said
Ozpin smiled
"Very good, your room is the same one you have been using. Now classes will begin in 2 days may I suggest you try to reforge that sword of yours." Ozpin said
"I would but I don't know the first step towards blacksmithing." Guts said
Ozpin smiled
"Ah very well. Well let me give you your first mission. Ms Rose is a priority asset. I want you to protect her at all cost but as well as get to know her team. I do believe she is a weapon's nut so I think you can make a very fast friend there." Ozpin said
"Thanks Oz. Oh by the way what happened to Qrow?" Guts asked
" I had him check out a few things in a few other kingdoms." Ozpin said
"Looking for her I guess." Guts asked
Ozpin turned away and reluctantly said "…yes…"
Guts didn't buy it but didn't pursue he got up. "Have a good day headmaster."
Ozpin unknown to Guts had his eyes shut. He hated to lie to his followers or those who believed him. But this is something Guts couldn't know. However in his gut he believed he had made a terrible mistake.
